I have to say this is my go to restaurant for Korean food! I'm Korean and my mom was a master chef so I grew up with amazing tasty Korean dishes. I miss my mom's cooking and she was the one who gave my palette to know what's good and bad. Oh I've had some pretty bad Korean dishes that's totally saddens my soul. But! This place has uplifted my soul because so far (this is my third time here) has been great! Every dish so far has not disappointed me. Slow service but good food. Came on a weekend with my siblings and SOs. There was 6 of us and we made sure to call ahead to find out the wait. We were told to just walk-in bc there was plenary of availability. When we arrived we were excited bc there was indeed a lot of empty tables. But we didn't get seated for a while even though we got greeted right away. After getting seated we took a quick look at the menu but we already knew what we wanted having looked at the menu in advance. We ordered jap chae and 2 sojus right away so we could get the happy hour price and then we ordered the hot pot at rice bowls. The soju came about 10 min after ordering and did not taste good at all. We returned the second bottle. After that it took 40 min just to get our main courses despite the fact that when we arrived it was practically empty and we had to remind our server 3 times that we were still waiting on our jap chae. We eventually got after we finished eating our dinner. At that point it was cold. We saw larger tables who came in long after us receive their food first. Luckily they were kind enough to remove it from our bill. The food itself was good. My fiancé and I got the hot pot for two and really enjoyed it. And liked how they gave us fried rice in the same pot after we finished. My siblings loved their rice bowls as well. Would only go back if it was seriously craving hot pot. 2 stars for the chicken bbq ... but I've had better. There are a lot of things wrong with this restaurant. They're understaffed and poorly trained, they nickel and dime for extras, and honestly flavors are just not there. Ordered the kimchee chigae ... what a waste of $12. Banchan was mediocre in variety and taste. Acoustics are horrible... could barely hear myself think with the big drunk table across the way. Is this a restaurant or a bar? Food took forever and wait staff didnt check on us in a timely manner. The biggest waste of $35 and 1.5 hours I wont be getting back. This place is like a korean Denny's. I hate it. I know I haven't tasted the other dishes here but oh well. My first experience was so shitty I wont ever be going back. read more

What a study in contrast! The food is very good and fresh tasting. Other than rather limited banchan that accompanies the bbq, everything was spot on. My seafood hot pot was clean tasting and delicious, with lots of tasty seafood, and my friend was happy with his bulgogi bbq. Many reviews have commented on the poor service. If the night I went--7/8--was any indication, I may have an insight. There was only one wait staff member for the entire restaurant! She was very nice, but completely harried. Sweat coming down her face, she literally ran around once the restaurant started getting busy. The owner, who brought out dishes on a regular basis, seemed unconcerned by the fact that this woman (who I sensed was a family member) was completely overwhelmed: timing of dishes was off, requests went unfulfilled, and other requests took inordinate amounts of time to happen. I don't know if this was a unique experience (maybe a sick-out?) or if this is typical of Hancook. But it made for a rather nerve-wracking night, with deep concern about the waitperson but also with frustration with how management handled the situation. Happy to go back once they get their service situation under control. Until then, there are too many good Korean restaurants in the neighborhood that can get my money. read more

I had the seafood pancake and the galbi hansoong with tofu soup. The seafood pancake was ok. It was kinda mushy, not like normal seafood pancake. The galbi was also only average. This was my first time trying out Hancook and I was not disappointed. My brother and I arrived around 2:30pm on a Saturday and it was not crowded at all. The layout of the restaurant is organized and very clean with plenty of seating. The service was prompt and our server was very friendly. They have happy hour everyday from 5pm-7pm where drinks and appetizers are 50% off and they have WiFi available to customers. We ordered the soy garlic wings and the kimchi soft tofu soup and thoroughly enjoyed our meal! (Pictures included!). The soy garlic wings which were marinated to perfection and very crispy. The kimchi soft tofu soup came out still boiling and tasted amazing with all the flavors that make it so comforting and warms your soul! For those of you that don't eat pork - don't fret they actually offer veggie/non-pork options! I would definitely come back to try other items on their menu. read more

3.5 stars Since my previous visit (right when they opened), I feel like their quality and quantity has decreased while their prices have increased. We ordered the bulgogi set that comes with a soup (we opted for the kimchi stew). I thought the kimchi stew was flavorful and it was one of my favorites of the night. But, the bulgogi was kinda sad looking as were the veggies it was served with and it was definitely not as plentiful as our first time coming here. The seafood pancake was gigantic but a little soggy in my opinion. The chicken ssam appetizer was decent but nothing to write home about. I was not a fan of the chicken wing appetizers. Also, we ordered 8 pieces, and it was very clear that two of the pieces were actually 1 wing that had been cut in half. Actually, what I enjoyed the most was probably all of the complimentary banchan--plentiful and tasty! What is new is their "50%" off Appetizers during Happy Hour deal. I put the 50% intentionally in quotes because when the bill came, it was clear that actually their version of 50% is not mathematically accurate which was frustrating to me. All of the happy hour prices were MORE than half of the original price by a significant amount. For example, the seafood pancake was advertised as $17 or $17.99 on the printed menu (I know for certain it had 17 in it so it should have been 8.50 or 8.99) but it rang up as $9.99 under the happy hour special. At best, this is 45% off but definitely not 50% off. As a math teacher, it bothers me that you would advertise something as 50% off and not get it mathematically correct. It's misleading and also promotes poor math. Now it's really not like I care that it's a dollar extra (for each item) but I think they should just clearly communicate the happy hour prices. It's also possible that their print menu has the wrong prices but either way, it's misleading to advertise/print a certain price and then charge a different one when the bill comes. It still is a pretty good deal at happy hour but I think they should just be consistent with what they advertise. So, in all, it filled the Korean fix that I needed but it was definitely not as exciting as our first visit. I do want to try their stone hot pot though because it seemed to be a popular dish. read more
