Today was my first experience at Harry's and it was absolutely amazing. When I first walked in, I loved the little sign with some of the "rules", my favorite one mentioning kindness and being polite. The hostess was really welcoming and instantly sat my friend and I. The atmosphere was pretty busy but calm for a Monday. It was really really clean which I appreciated. The menu has lots of options but the most exciting part is the breakfast. My server Donnely was super helpful and really sweet. She made awesome suggestions and was very attentive throughout. As far as the breakfast, the French toast was AMAZING, it tastes like I made it at home. The home fries were super tasty. Everything was hot, it was great. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and how quickly it came out. The Caffeinated Greek was super delicious and I wish I could've taken one home. Worse customer service ever. They made us feel uncomfortable from the get go. We came here to celebrate my sisters bday over brunch. We knew it was a big party (15) but she had made reservations beforehand giving them the size of the party. We all arrived on time but they gave the table away claiming we weren't all there when no one came to check on us after they said they were getting things ready. First woman in a white cardigan seemed annoyed at us and wanted to separate the party in different rooms of the restaurant, claiming they can't put any tables together although we saw 3 separate empty tables in the room that could have accommodated us. All of this and not wanting to give us extra chairs when we decided to try to squeeze together and make it work, having us stand awkwardly in the restaurant. What seemed like the owner, came by not reassuring us either, until they finally caved and scooted the empty table to us.. All of this really had a simple solution but they were so persistent about not wanting to put tables together. I work customer service and know some customers can be entitled and annoying but none of us were being disrespectful at any point. We even felt scorned when the waiter came to drop off drinks screaming the names (understandable it's loud there) but when a friend tried to make sure her cappuccino had almond milk due to her lactose intolerance we were hit with an "idk. CAPPUCCINO!!" It was an uncomfortable experience that only the waiter at the end made better. He was kind and let the little oopsies like spilling champagne feel minor. We ordered multiple plates and shared among each other. The waffle was good (fluffy, moist and slightly crunch exterior). By the time I ate it it had cooled off a bit. The French toast was my personal favorite. It had a hint of cinnamon , thick bread to soak in that butter and syrup. It had a light sprinkle of powdered sugar. I ate it with sugar free syrup but it does come with maple syrup in case you wondered. Eggs were the best side in my opinion. They were not dry at all and had good flavor. The bacon and patty sausage were just average. Nothing more nothing less but did the trick. My friend ordered his biscuit to be toasted and he through a light layer of butter and jelly. It was really good! It looks like they make fresh biscuits and croissants . So anything with them will hit the spot. Hope it helps. Would I come back? Yes! Very rarely am I blown away by a restaurant known for its breakfast/brunch, because for the most part it is standard food, however Harry's is a big exception. We went on a Saturday for brunch expecting a long wait. Fortunately, the restaurant gives you an option online to get on the waiting list so we were able to time our arrival. With a newborn, being able to be seated almost immediately was imperative. Because it was such a beautiful day and because we had our corgi in tow we requested to be seated outside. Our server greeted us almost immediately, bringing us some much needed coffee (see comment about having a newborn...). The moment we scanned the menu via a qr code we were instantly hit with the worst dilemma, what to choose?! Harry's is a hodgepodge of different cuisines, including Greek, Latin American and European (which was also reflected in the music playing). Because we couldn't decide, we opted for one sweet (baklava French toast) and one savory (zucchini omelet). The food came out so fast and was just beautiful! The baklava French toast had layers of toast with layers of the pistachio nut mixture topped off with a delicious frozen yogurt ice cream. I loved that it was not overly sweet and the amount of nuts consumed made you feel, somewhat, that it wasn't THAT unhealthy. The frozen, yogurt ice cream was such a great accompaniment to the greens toast and had that tartness that I love in a good Greek yogurt. Now, when it came to the omelet, I was so impressed with how fluffy it was with the first bite. Usually, omelets to me all taste the same everywhere because they are so standard, we make them at home constantly and not something you can mess up if the ingredients are fresh. This one was filled with Egg Whites, Feta, Mushrooms, Sautéed Onions, and Zucchini. It didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary, but man the fluffiness and the addition of the feta took this omelet to another level. I'm also not easily impressed by hasbrowns because sometimes they are too crunchy on the outside and still raw on the inside or just not well seasoned, but these were by far the best hash browns I've had accompany my delectable omelet. It was well seasoned, chewy with a nice crunch. To top it off they make their biscuits in house. They were nice and fluffy and oh so moist. All in all with the great weather, soothing music and delicious dishes, we had such an unexpected, amazing breakfast with great service. The only one small annoyance is that the restaurant is right next to a loud, busy street and an equally loud dog boarding place next door. Fortunately, the pleasant music was turned up to distract you at times. However, all in all it will definitely be a place we frequent more often! read more

Great brunch spot! We came to meet up with friends for breakfast and the menu was perfect. Breakfast and lunch are both available to order so everyone was happy. We ordered the pork gyro, an omelette, home fries (which are delicious potatoes, not french fries), and baklava french toast plus an order of biscuits to split with the table. Everything was so tasty, not pictured was coffee and micheladas ordered that came fast. The ambiance was nice and welcoming. There were people dressed up, dressed casual, and several people in uniforms on lunch break. The service was friendly and everyone was accommodating. There was a little wait as expected and a rule board when you walk in that may catch bigger parties off guard but glad they're upfront about all their practices as far as split checks and gratuity for groups. I could not wait to try Harry's out. They are closed on Tuesday, so I made a return trip on Wednesday. Wow! What a waste of time and money. The waitress was absolutely horrible and the cooks were not far behind. It was obvious English was not her first language nor was she able to comprehend simple requests as in " can I get a napkin", "where is the ladies room", " I would like my meat medium ". Needless to say, my meat was overcooked. When i informed her of the dissatisfaction, she did her best to find " pink" in the meat, yet she failed. Birthday Breakfast Disappointment at Harry's - Poor Service, Misleading Menu, and Cold Food I visited Harry's on Wednesday, April 10th with my husband and daughter to celebrate my birthday. I had been looking forward to returning for some time, but unfortunately, our experience was a major disappointment. The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived, but the waitress rushed us to order before we even had a chance to open the menus. We ordered three coffees and asked for a few minutes to decide on our food. My husband noticed the menu offered "fresh squeezed orange juice with pulp"--something I love--so he encouraged me to order it. When it arrived, it looked like watered-down carton juice with no pulp at all. We both tasted it and agreed: this was not fresh squeezed. When I asked the waitress if it was truly fresh, she said they do squeeze it fresh, but they strain it because "most customers don't like pulp," and they also water it down. That completely contradicts what's advertised. We were polite, but she quickly got defensive, telling us they don't take anything back, especially juice, and not to even bother asking the manager. To make matters worse, we overheard her telling another staff member that I had called the juice "fake"--a word I never used. The manager (who we later realized is the owner) eventually came to the table. He spoke very quietly and confirmed they strain the juice, then said he'd take it off the bill--but he didn't. After that, the service went downhill. No one came to check on us, and the waitress became noticeably colder. The food itself was just as disappointing. The eggs were small and served cold, and the "llapingachos" (Ecuadorian potato pancakes) they're known for were absolutely not authentic llapingachos--just a poor imitation of what they used to serve before the remodel. To top it off, they automatically added an 18% gratuity for our party of three (with no mention of that policy), charged for warm water, and yes--still charged for the juice we were told would be removed. We left feeling let down, especially on a day that was meant to be joyful. Birthdays should feel special--not rushed, dismissed, and ignored. We've been loyal customers in the past, but sadly, we won't be going back. That said--we'll be celebrating again soon... somewhere that actually makes it feel special. read more

I don't know how I let Harry's get past my foodie radar for so long. We were looking for a breakfast near downtown and stumbled across this place. We came on a weekday and parking was easy. They definitely social distance as it did not look terribly packed in there, but we still had about a 20 minute wait. No big deal when with good company. Originally they wanted to see us at the bar but we were able to get a table instead. Penny was our waitress and she was outstanding. We had great conversation and she gave excellent recommendations. The coffee was nice and hot and my cup never went empty. I was in the mood for a tradional breakfast and went with French toast with a side of sausage and scrambled eggs. The portions were big and the taste was on point. I got to try a bite of the baklava French toast which was better than mine. I came a week later with my coworkers and Penny was my waitress again and she impressed me in that she remembered me and my exact order. Talk about great customer service. This time we partook in some morning drinks and had mimosas which were really good. Their barista was on duty and made me a great caramel latte as well. I was told the cooks specialized in some of their Latin dishes so I went with the chilaquiles. It was one of the better chilaquiles dishes I have had considering I ordered it at a Greek restaurant. I had the spicy fried chicken with two eggs and potatoes. Eggs were cooked to my request and done just right. Potatoes could have been cooked longer in my opinion, but we're still tasty. I've always enjoyed coming here and wanted to continue supporting this business, but unfortunately my recent experience left me extremely uncomfortable. We were a party of three and requested to sit at a 5-top because one of our guests needed a bit more space to sit comfortably. We communicated this to the hostess, and it was handled with kindness , until the owner came out and stood in front of the table discussing how many sat at a table made for more guest. The way he looked at us in disgust not only me but the rest of the table feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. It felt like we were being judged or scrutinized for simply asking for a more suitable table. And if it were busy I would've understood the need of that specific table however, volume of the restaurant was relaxed. That energy completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice meal. I didn't enjoy my time, my food, or the environment after that interaction. I truly want to keep coming here, but if this is how guests are made to feel when asking for something as simple as space to be comfortable, it's hard to justify returning. read more

Great Breakfast! My Friend joined me for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We had never been here before so we didn't know what to expect. There was a 30 minute wait but they have comfortable benches to sit. Once seated our waitress came by to greet us immediately. We both ordered the breakfast tacos with a variety of toppings and coffee. The tacos were so good, I got one with spinach and tomatoes. Our order didn't scratch the surface of what was on the menu! I absolutely loved Harry's! From the service to the food you sure won't be disappointed. When I go I always have to get the French Toast it's the best. Oddly enough the best thing I had here was their Churrasco Platter with the lamp chops. The lamb chops where so tender and juicy! It comes with this red pepper sauce which is to die for. The seasonally have a pumpkin spice latte that is a winner. Overall I give this place a great review and it has been definitely added to to my go-to brunch spots in Houston. I'm almost at 200 reviews on Yelp and this is the only one where I feel a little sad....sad for me, sad for the owners, sad for humanity! I live a block away so I dine here a minimum of 2 x per month but have been coming to Harry's for at least the past 15 years. As a personal rule of thumb, I love eating at diners, and Harry's was always at the top of my list pre and post remodel. It's a diverse and eclectic menu, food and drinks are consistently good....service fairly attentive. My issues are with management where the owner that walks around was kinda rude on a few occasions but I let it pass...we tend to get cranky in our older years, no worries. Then I saw their new "Guidelines/Protocols" they posted in the entryway and was shocked, it left such a heavy feeling in my stomach and heart, totally fascist and as another yelper commented "racist and stuck in the 1950's." It suggests a dress code...forgive me for thinking otherwise but this is a diner correct, not a Michelin star restaurant. It states "If your elders did not teach you..." completely condescending and grossly presumptuous. Who are these rules really directed at? In any case, I continued to make my regular visits and chalked it up to the owners having to enforce these "rules" due to the level of their increased business in the last few years....maybe? ‍ I stopped by this morning (like I said, I'm a pretty regular patron) and I sat in my same spot and placed my usual order. Suddenly a manager was standing in front of me with the weirdest energy and a really off putting expression on his face and said "Excuse me, did you dine here about a week ago sitting right here"....and of course I said yes b/c I did indeed have breakfast there the week before. He then pulled his phone out from behind his back and said in the rudest tone of voice "is this you?"......it was a still shot from their security cameras of me sitting at the bar.....it absolutely was me so I said "yes, that's me.".....honestly ya'll, for a minute there I thought I was the winner of some random contest for having dined there so often. Maybe it was like my 100th visit and I was about to get to see what was behind "door #3" or at least a comped meal, maybe a free latte!?! He goes on to say I left that day without paying my tab!!!! First and foremost do I look like a "dash & dine" kinda gal? Secondly, who skips on their tab and then shows up a week later sits in the same spot and orders the same thing . I just said "Oh my gosh, ok....that's fine" as if to say "that wasn't intentional please add it to today's tab no problem." Instead he just stood their staring, rather glaring at me for what seemed like an eternity then said" I will go back and find the ticket." He returned with an 8 1/2 x 11 print out of an itemized list and attempted to go through it line by line at the bar in front of other patrons....seriously? I told him that wasn't necessary, I said it was an honest mistake and I didn't appreciate the way he was handling it. He went on to say "you have no idea the "types of people" we have to deal with here and so we have to treat everyone the same." Well, if this is how you are treating "everyone the same" then that's a lot of people that you are treating very poorly. So yes, sad for me since I can't eat here anymore, sad for the owners for being completely paralyzed in ignorance and sad for humanity that this type of behavior and mindset still exists and continues to permeate and ripple through society until one yelper at a time stands up against it! * re: owners curt response (see what I mean) yes, I saw the sign when it was first put out years ago but continued going... my point is I gave the benefit of the doubt for far too long. Everything we had was delicious! Juicy bacon with the right amount of bite and chew to it. Smokey meaty ham. Flavorful spiced sausage patty. Eggs cooked to order as requested. Pancake texture was how I like it, slightly thick and dense, but still airy. It could've had a little more sweetness and buttery flavor. Service was fast and friendly during what looked like a Very busy and fast paced part of a Saturday morning (~1100). Lots of people waiting to be seated. Tables being turned over very quickly.
