I have been on Red notes and noticed a lot of Guizhou cuisine which is from China. I am always open to try new cuisine because it represents the culture and the foods that the people have been consuming. It's really my lucky find in SGV area. The moment I stepped into the restaurant I already surprised with all the art on the wall, and the ambience was just feel so homey yet fancy! Our server was very attentive and he introduced every dish with a deeper explanation so we can better understand the culture behind the dish, which we really appreciate that, not like other restaurants just put down the dish and walked away. The soup was my favorite as I told the soup base is from fermented tomatoes and it's not as sour as I was thinking and has all the veggies with the frog meat. We were totally in love with that. The veggie salad was my hubbys favorite, according to the Guizhou cultural, they believe this fishy veggie can clean up the body system and I know this kind of veggie because each time when I have sore throat my mom will cook me soup for that, it's anti inflammatory veggie. They mix it well with the house special spicy source. All other dishes were good too. Overall, everything was good too. My wife and I were PLEASANTLY surprised by this place. From the street, I wasn't expecting much but I could see through the window that it had a high end decor. We ordered three dishes as each of them were awesome! Our favorite was the stir fried liver with kidney with pickled chilli. My wife does not like innards but his was her favorite dish of the night. The owner told us they get the food fresh daily. The second dish was the Miao sour soup with fish. We got all of our dishes super mild because I cannot handle the heat and it was almost perfect , but while you eat the heat will catchup to you. But it was good. The soup had a strong taste of lemon grass. The last dish was the guizou spicy chicken. The dish is good but the chicken had a lot of small bones and it was just a lot of work for me. But the flavor was good. I loved that none of the dishes were overwhelmingly spicy. The balance was good.
