This was a decent sized establishment with indoor and outdoor eating. The decor definitely matched the name. The music played added to the country kitchen/cafe vibe. Food was very good and fast service. From walk in, sit down, to eating was little more than 15 minutes. The staff were great at service with that down home smile! read more

Finding myself on this side of town today and decided to stop in and give Henhouse another try. We arrived a little after 8 to a very full parking lot. It definitely seems like a favorite to the people living nearby. We were greeted right away and luckily snagged one of the last booths. Our waitress came over so quick, took our drink over and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. I decided on the Paul Bunyan and my daughter the Barn Buster. Both came out pretty fast and looked delicious. The portions were huge. While I'm still not a fan of the potatoes they were cooked a bit better today. My eggs were perfect, bacon crispy and French toast yummy. Our server was so wonderful. She was friendly, talkative and quick. She checked on us often and we left so full. The vibe is chill and not too fancy. It can get a bit loud, but not too hard to hear. read more

I haven't been here in awhile and this place is delicious like many years ago. The cluck cluck skillet is ginormous!! I had this skillet for three meals and it was delicious. I am very impressed with the size and the cost. The gravy, chicken, potatoes, and biscuit was so great all together. Staff is super friendly! We came on a weekday early morning, but I have heard that weekends they do get busy so try to get there early! Very clean restaurant. The location on Higley is a staple. Amazing. The location on Lindsey is a disaster. The facility is WAY too small for their needs. We waited an hour to sit, then over an hour for our food. I had too toddlers who were given their food first. Great. Problem, the rest of the tables/adults did not get their food until 30 minutes later. The kids were done and ready to go when we finally got our food. One meal remained outstanding for another 15 minutes while the other adults were scarfing. My father left and we had to cancel his meal at the 1-hr mark from sitting. We were told there was a backup in the kitchen, yet tables around us got food and left while we were still waiting. A family breakfast became a disaster. I will always got to the Higley location but I'm not coming back to this spot and tell every one to avoid if their party is more than four. read more

Worst customer service ever. On 3/07 we waited over 20 min for a table. After we were seated and ordering , the waitress said they were out of the caramel apple waffles I had selected. 3 other people in our party ordered breakfast meals off the regular menu and I ordered a short stack of pancakes instead of the waffles. The waitress brought out all the food except for the pancakes I ordered. She said the griddle was currently full of all the extra large size table pancakes other customers had ordered and there was no room to drop mine. The manager came over after 10 min and offered a cinnamon roll I didn't want, while I was waiting for the pancakes. Pancakes did not come out until after another 15 min after that. Everyone else in our party was completely finished eating and we were all ready to leave. No apology or further contact from the manager. I only had a few bites of the undercooked pancakes, that we were also charged full price for. Has been a favorite spot to take out of town guests, but will not be going back there anytime soon. read more

Parking spaces are small, but the dirt lot has a lot of space. We opted for first avail and got seated outside. Would be nice if they figured out better spacing so you can put the heaters over more than just the table in the corner by the pillar. We didn't get checked on while we are eating so we couldn't order more before finishing our meal. (We wanted toast for our eggs) I had the biscuit&gravy. Biscuit was dry. I've written a couple of reviews already. There is nothing I can say other than if you like breakfast, stop looking and go here. Facility is clean, staff is unbelievably friendly, courteous and helpful. Portions or huge. My favorite is the Chicken & Waffles. I guarantee you can not go wrong. And the most important thing to me was our waitress/manager Danielle. One of the most beautiful, funny persons I've met down here. If I lived here I would be eating breakfast everyday here. I live in Oregon and come here from Jan-April. This is my second year and I will be back next year. Gary M and his buddy looking for a pancake bigger than his head. Just stopped in for lunch with my wife. My wife brought in a special protein drink. The hostess who greeted us said no outside drinks. She was adamant even after hearing the drink my wife had. My wife asked for the owner. Neither were in the cafe. We have been to this location a number of times and have never been stopped. The restaurant wasn't very busy. You would think they would accept anyone in order to keep the lights on. I doubt we will ever go back. Too many other choices of where to eat without issue. read more

I ordered the pork chop breakfast special. Worst breakfast ever. The pork chops were tough - hard to chew and were very greasy - they tasted like bacon rendering. The potatoes were also overly greasy and tasted like bacon rendering. The eggs were greasy - the toast was soaked in the margarine/butter. The "apple chutney" was canned apples with extra cinnamon - not really chutney. I was very disappointed. The service was so-so. She checked on us - but not enough to notice nothing was being eaten on my plate. When she took the plate away instead of asking me why the pork chops were hardly eaten, I had to stop her and tell her how bad it was. They changed their tables - much smaller and too close together. The food is good but the service is terrible. They just want to flip tables as fast as possible. The waitress came to take our order at least 3 times within 10 minutes of being there. No time to look at the menu and just wanted the order. Offered boxes while we were eating, and gave us our check and came to collect payment while we were eating. Told us no rush but they were. Manager came to say they needed the table and that we had been there a long time but there were 6 open tables and no waiting customers. Do not come here if you want to leisurely enjoy breakfast at your own pace. They are more interested in flipping tables and kicking out customers. read more

Went here for brunch on my last day in town. Staff were friendly, the vibe was rustic and airy. Cute place! I learned they have a few locations in the area. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, the food was very delicious! Unfortunately the food took quite a while to come out (about 25 minutes when we were one of 3 tables). I LOVE this place. Great down home feel. The staff are always wonderful.The food is amazing...all of it. This is probably one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in the world. If you are looking for a great home-style breakfast (think big) with flare, this is the place. If you are looking for a light healthy breakfast, maybe not. Oh boy, I'm torn because all the food was delicious, but the wait was absolutely DREADFUL. I don't mind waiting when wait times are accurate, but being told 30 minutes when the actual wait time was 1hr 15min? And then waiting just as long for the food to arrive?? I heard the wait here was bad, but two hours from arrival to receiving our food wasn't something I anticipated. First the food: everything we ordered was delicious. Sausage and gravy, chicken fried steak, and small stack pancakes were spectacular. Fluffy biscuits, crispy chicken fried steak smothered in gravy, and truly sizable pancakes (even though not Mom's Famous Stack size). Skip the waffle - it's overpriced with slightly better-than-hotel batter. Now back to the wait (the bulk of our experience) - we arrived @ 11:30am on a Saturday and told it's a 30 minute wait for 4, totally doable. Around 12:15pm, we moved inside to wait on the bench. Let me tell you, it's very frustrating looking at all the open and prepped tables, ready to seat customers...yet they're not seating anyone. We finally were seated @ 12:45pm. However, this was only AFTER the hostess almost seated a party of 4 who arrived after us. I scooted my way to the hostess, who checked the list again, and promptly seated us. We waited another 10 minutes for a server to take our drink orders (and not so shortly after, our food orders). Waited another 25 minutes for our food to be prepared. I will say they were very quick with the check, which was surprising, based on the speed of previous events, which brings us to finally leave at 2pm. Come here on the weekends if you have unlimited patience, time to kill, and absolutely NO other plans. In retrospect, the food likely tasted glorious since we were starving by the time we received it. If I ever come back, it will definitely be on a weekday. I'm not sure what's happening in the Henhouse, but if they ran more efficiently, this place would make an absolutely slaying getting guests in and out (myself included). But for now, I will confidently say even though I enjoyed the food, it is not worth waiting 2 whole hours for. Note: They don't do the large pancakes on the weekends due to grill availability (and thank goodness because I would have passed out this visit), so swing by on the weekdays if you wanna the feel the pain of massively delicious pancake. read more

First time here on vacation. Went with friends and hubby. We were seated within 10minutes because of our party of 6. Seating was very comfortable along the wall with three and three seating across on chairs. Our service was good but the server was harsh with us ordering in asking questions. I ordered the French toast with crunchy toppings of cereal. Taste was good but no cereal was visible. Hubby ordered the chicken fried chicken with potatoes and English muffin. My Lunch Bunch of 8 women has been to the other Henhouse location and loved it, so the visit to the one on Lindsay in Gilbert was very disappointing. I felt soooo sorry for our server who had to continually bring bad news. For two in our group who ordered chili burgers, he had to report that the restaurant didn't have any chili. (We found out it had "gone bad". That curbed my appetite.) Next, he had to return to tell another woman they ran out of chicken salad. She had ordered the sandwich. Ran out of chicken salad at 11:30 a.m.? Then who know how long ago it had been made. The poor server. He was so friendly and helpful, but embarrassed about these setbacks. Two of us ordered the Cali Benedict, as we both love eggs Benedict. Instead of poached, the eggs were hard all the way through with very little Hollandaise sauce. She sent hers back, but I had given up at that point and just ate what I had. I couldn't cut through the burned bottom of the muffin with my knife, so picked it up and ate part of it. The restaurant was full and we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Based on that and our previous experience at the Guadalupe Road location, it was obvious the restaurant is popular. I've frequented this location in person quite a few times and have really enjoyed the food. My family and I have tried a a few different dishes and have never been disappointed. The service has been spotty, sometimes really great and others not so much. This review is based on the food and service that I received ordering take out. I called in an order for the first time and the employee who took my order was friendly and let me know there was about 35 min wait for pick up. During my order, I requested extra syrup to go for the pancakes because I knew I didn't have extra at home. Danielle read my order back and included my extra syrup request. A family member went to pick it up at the specified time and mind you, we are less than 5 minutes away from the restaurant. By the time we got the food home it was COLD. Obviously with take out l know you're gonna have food that has cooled down so I get that, but our dishes were cold as if they'd been sitting there for a very long time. AND they didn't pack ANY syrup for the pancakes. They didn't just not pack the extra requested syrup but NONE. Thanks guys for the dry pancakes. I don't know what I expected when I called to let them know about the missing syrup but the gentleman who answered the phone was not helpful and just really could care less. I wish I would've kept my tip that I left on this one. Note to self, always check the food before leaving, that was our fault. But that phone call put a bad taste in my mouth at the lack of customer service that I won't be back. read more

Came here with my husband for our breakfast date we try to do regularly. The food is always generous at this place! And the staff and service is prompt and courteous, too. It does get very busy on the weekends which is why we prefer to come here on week days... So heads up if you want to come on Sat or Sun- you'll def have a big wait. The tamale plate is huge and generous and overall enjoyable but I think the only complaint is that it's too messy- the past plates had everything kind of separated and now they serve it all thrown together so it's a bit messy. My Mexican Benedict was tasty however I wish that next time I can order the tostada on the side rather than "Benedict" style where it gets covered in wet things and as such ceases to be crunchy (which is why i love it, for it's crunch). Also the ranchero sauce is a little plain and I would next time just put it on the side or skip it. The amt of protein in this dish is great: 2 eggs, chorizo AND chicken.. def protein heavy which is IDEAL for me ! We will be coming back any way! read more

Food is good but they charge an "Egg Fee" of 50 cents per egg AND they charge you extra for a side of salsa. All this I found out AFTER I received my bill because I missed seeing the little sign about the egg fee that was sitting in the condiment tray. Ridiculous! This is a popular spot so expect a wait (especially with them enforcing social distancing). We got here at 1050am and were seated by 11:10 so not a terrible wait for just 2. The kitchen was apparently backed up because there 15 to-go orders placed so several tables around us were waiting a while for their orders. Just keep that in mind and be patient. They had a bunch of items on the special menu and they all sounded delectable! Hubby went for the Scottish Smoked Salmon eggs benedict and I opted for the veggie skillet. It took about 30mins for the food to arrive, but we were aware in advance of the delay and didn't mind at all just spending time together drinking our tea and coffee. The benedict eggs were well poached, hollandaise was perfect (creamy & buttery & lemony), and the English muffin was hearty. The salmon was thinly sliced and reminded him of the cut of lox. The capers and salmon added the perfect amount of salt to the sweet lemon hollandaise. The potatoes were thinly sliced and nicely seasoned (almost like scalloped style potatoes). He enjoyed every bite The skillet was huge and filling (needed a box for half of it). The potatoes were huge thin shaved slices and perfectly seasoned. The veggies were chopped small enough to enjoy every bite with a mouthful of veggies potatoes and eggs. The eggs were light and fluffy and that little bit of cheese on top just topped it all off. Food was delicious and service was great. Definitely worth the wait! We will be back. read more

My husband and I do Sunday breakfast every Sunday, and we have several places in a rotation. After watching "Check Please, Az," my husband was anxious to try HenHouse. We did today, Sunday, 4/6. We got to the very pleasant place and were led to a short booth for two. My husband is 6'6", and I have recently had knee surgery. I asked for one of the 4 or 5 empty tables for 4. The hostess/waitress told us that we needed to have a party of 4 to get one of the tables because "it was about to get very busy" and they needed to keep those 4 tops open. Well, okay. So my husband crammed himself into the seat and had really no place to put his long legs except over my feet. NOT COMFORTABLE. AT ALL. I was going to point out his height to her and ask again, but my husband did not want me to pursue it. I would have, though. I admit to not being happy, and resolved to keep those 4 tops in sight to see if indeed it did "fill up" or get "very busy." Other diners did come in, and some were seated outside at 4 tops. We were not offered that option... Anyway, my husband liked the morning meat loaf, and my chicken and waffle was not bad. The coffee, which is an indicator for me of a breakfast place, was okay (kind of bitey like Starbucks, which is not my thing but would be fine if you're a Starbucks person). Service was okay. Getting out of that 2 top "booth" was a hassle ; my husband swung his long legs around and had to catapult himself out of it. I had to have him help me up by giving me a hand because the tabletop was too small for me to brace myself on. As we left, I saw that three 4 tops had not even been used. Three had been untouched all during our cramped meal. Go figure. I really do feel that the waitress/hostess should not have had a tip but my husband is kinder than I am. BUt seriously, can't a person be trusted to make an executive decision sometimes and seat people on a case-by-case basis? I would not have written this review if we'd had a more pleasant seating. I didn't get her name. But if you are the manager, you might want to have a little chat about it. read more
