3 stars overall: I booked an appointment online for my Kia after it had reached 8K miles. The website is easy enough but I have mixed feelings about the service department. Upon arriving, you're asked to pull up to the front of a line of other cars waiting to be serviced. There seems to be about a group of 10 men walking around back and forth. They tell you to wait in your car with little to no other instructions. I waited for about 40 minutes before Kevin checked me in. They don't seem to be short staffed but it doesn't seem very organized and I'm guessing their computers are not the fastest. 5 stars for Kevin at Hilltop Kia He seemed to be the only one with a sense of urgency there. He worked fast to get me signed in and my car was ready when he said it would be. I really appreciate his help. read more

We almost purchased the 2022 Telluride however when we asked about putting money down to hold it for 2-5 days until we were able to take money out the gentleman in financing or in charge was extremely rude! We just needed to clarify that we understood what the process was and we were willing to sign a contract if need be. We didn't feel comfortable asking questions. I did not appreciate the tone or the condescending response and left there not wanting to give them my sale. The very next day we went to Ford Fairfield and purchased a 2022 Ford Explorer ST from a salesperson who treated us respectfully. We did not need to wait for the money after all. I went to this dealership to buy it differential oil for my car. What was sold to me was the incorrect fluid. Not sure what this could've done but I'm assuming it would've damaged my vehicle. And since I am the one who's performing the differential oil change service, there would be no one to blame, but myself. You go to a dealership because they specialize in knowledge for your vehicle, and you depend on them to give you the correct information. I really doubt this was by accident by the service rep because this person was not a new unknowledgeable employee. If this was a mistake or maybe the guy was guessing because he's not a mechanic that knows, that's not an excuse either. All in all it makes me question integrity of this dealership. This overall feedback is about Raoul, one of the internet sales managers. PRO: voicemail about thanking me for my interest in a new car was very friendly PRO: was quick to respond back and forth thru email while trying to sell me a car; provided me with helpful info about the car and the process CON: had a less courteous persona on 3 phone calls I spoke to him on; was a bit condescending during those phone calls CON: was suddenly NOT responsive to my email after we hit a snag in our agreement for the car purchase, AFTER I gave my deposit All in all, would not interact with this specific salesman again. The car I ended up putting down a deposit for was in transit to the dealership. I did not get a deal on the car due to the car/chip shortage in the country, but that was expected. Without going into all the details, my phone communications with him left such a bad taste in my mouth that I decided to purchase the vehicle from out of state instead. The out of state purchase, INCLUDING the shipping cost to my home was slightly less than what I was getting from Raoul...AND the out of state dealer had the car available now vs in transit. The service they provided was impeccable and their phone manners were much better. As I was not in a rush to get the car (just in a rush to SECURE one), I would have been fine waiting for the Hilltop Kia one if I hadn't been so turned off by my phone interactions with Raoul. If a manager is reading this, I hope a conversation happens with him about how to better his offline communication skills. Looks like there was one other Yelp review that described conflict specifically with him as well. TLDR; wouldn't recommend working directly with him; hope he gets more training in how to build positive relationships with customers. read more

We have purchased 2 vehicles from this dealership. We have never had issues with their service dept until this week. This past Saturday, my husband took our 12 year old car to the dealer and sold it back to them/ done deal. Then he tries to start our hybrid and the battery had died. So we had AAA tow the car there. The service dept told us they had a battery in stock and we would have the car back by 12noon on Monday. Well it's now almost 6pm and the communication with the service dept has been awful. First if was noon, then 2-4, then absolutely no later than 5pm. My husband gets there and they tell him the mechanic still needs to do a final test. What, you can't pick up a phone and call us to let us know. It was a waste of my husband's time to get there and be told the car isn't ready. We always research a dealership's service dept before purchasing a vehicle- I now question the authenticity and competence of the service dept. We are not looking for a 2nd car at this time but if we were we might look elsewhere. Tell your service, parts and mechanic depts to learn both how to communicate with each other and with your customers **UPDATE ON APRIL 18** My husband went to pick up the car today and we want to thank TuanTon, the customer service manager. First, he was very apologetic for the delays. Next, we thank the mechanic(s) who worked on the car- before automatically replacing an expensive battery, he reviewed the vehicle's history and saw that the car has very low mileage for the past 6 months. The car has a battery reset button which he enabled. He wanted to have the car remain overnight (last night) to ensure the reset worked- it did. The dealer recommended we start the engine and turn on the lights at least once a month. My husband will be driving it daily, so we don't foresee this issue occurring again in the near future. read more

Maybe I've lost touch and you really can't just walk in and buy a thing without a whole process anymore. I called to purchase a part for my sisters car and they wouldn't tell me if they had the part or let me buy it without her VIN. Ostensibly this is to ensure fitment, but I don't have access to the vehicle and I'm certainly not going to drive over there to get the VIN just to read it off to the dealer to find out if I can buy something for 3 times the aftermarket price. What if I just didn't want to provide it to protect my privacy? I might even understand this if it was some highly specialized part that was specific to a very particular vehicle, but the part I wanted fits a range of years. It's not like any parts seller is going to let you return an open part anyway if you got it wrong. I don't have to do this to this at O'Reilly or Pep Boys. In fact, I didn't even have to do it at the Kia dealer where I just bought the part over the phone. My car is having electrical problems and won't move. I called to make an appt and arrange a tow service utilizing my extended warranty. The man that answered the phone was extremely curt with me. Told me they don't offer tow (which is untrue) and said they don't have appts so if I tow my car there at my own expense, he can't guarantee they'll get to it in a timely manner. Not sure what I was expecting but it was rather cold and left no room for discussion or questions on my end. Someone stranded is already experiencing stress. The apathy was not necessary. Also, if I tell you have an extended warranty don't ignore me and refuse to check the system and inform me of my tow rights. He just simply repeated it gets towed at my expense which is factually incorrect. read more

Although not in a hurry we reached out to Hilltop Kia a few weeks ago where Moe asked our preferences and took down our info. Last weekend out of the blue we got a call from Moe asking if we were interested in purchasing a Telluride EX Premium (which someone else had custom ordered but cancelled), and we jumped at the chance. When we went down to the dealership to purchase the car, Moe was very helpful and we felt was quite honest too. He patiently explained all the aspects of the car and treated us with respect. There was a small scratch on the dashboard which he said would be fixed soon, and helped speak with the service department to get the part ordered. Overall experience was mixed. I went to them after being referred there by a car buying service that gave me a specific price for a specific car on their lot. I contacted them by email and arranged to look at the car. When I got there I decided to make the purchase. Strike one was when they presented the paperwork to me and quoted a price higher than the one given to me by the car buying service that they knew I was using. The good old bait and switch. The salesman begrudgingly went to his manager and they reluctantly decided to honor the price I was given before I got there. Strike two was the high pressure pitches you get from the finance manager to purchase all sorts of extras from them. He seemed annoyed that I didn't go for any of it. Strike three was when I got home and tried to use one of the power outlets in the car (it is an EV and you can use the power outlet even when the car is off). Amazingly, it was not an outlet used in the United States or Canada, but after research I determined it was the type used in Australia and China. Somebody screwed up on the assembly line. I sent a picture of this outlet (see below) to the salesman and incredibly, he claimed it was a standard outlet and refused to do anything about it. How dishonest can you be? I ended up contacting Kia's corporate customer service directly, and they arranged for repair at a different dealer. Took about an hour. Strike four has come only recently. Here in California an electric car gets to have a carpool lane sticker, and the dealer claimed to have applied for it for me when I purchased the car on July 30. This was important to me - I have a hellish commute and the carpool lane would save me alot of time each day. They charged me $22 to cover the DMV fee for the sticker. After a month, no sticker. After 6 weeks, no sticker. After 8 weeks, no sticker. At least twice I contacted the salesman and the manager and they claimed that there were up to 12 week delays in getting the stickers and that I should be patient. Then I contacted DMV directly and the agent stated that the longest delay should be about 8 weeks, and when he looked up my car record, there was no application for HOV stickers noted. I later found that the dealer had to wait for the permanent plates to get issued to the car because DMV wont's issue the stickers without permanent license plate number on the application. It would have been nice to know this since I could have gotten the one page application in just as fast as they did and maybe faster. After some emails back and forth they refunded me the $22 and threw in some additional compensation for my trouble, so all in all they seem to want to do right by their customers, but they need to do a better job of getting it right the first time. read more

Located in the heart of the Hilltop Auto Mall, this location is very spacious, has great amenities, and has the best team I have ever encountered at a Kia Service Department. Customer lounge is clean, open, comfy seating for those who prefer to wait for their vehicle to finish being serviced. Hungry or want to pass time? Ihop is right across the street, Century Theaters is a block away! Pending the distance and service type, complimentary shuttle options may be available as well to get you back home or to your location while you wait for your vehicle to finish. I brought my vehicle in for what I presumed would have been a simple fix, but with the great advising by Matt Detorres, I ended up getting more work done for my vehicle to help prevent future issues. The great thing about Matt's service advising, is that he is non-pressuring. I have worked with previous service advisors that would really try to push certain services as if they were a salesman. This can sometimes leave a negative taste in the mouth as consumers do not usually like to feel pressured. Matt on the other hand, does exactly what we would expect: he ADVISES. You, as the consumer, can make the choice on what you do with your vehicle being serviced, but Matt will detail the pros and cons if you ask him to. In my case, I had the intention of replacing just two tires, but he recommended all four, as all were worn down much worse than I had thought. He was able to make the connections that the issues I was having with my car's performance were all linked to the tires, so I was able to decide it was going to be best to replace all. Oh boy, what a huge difference this made. I do not think my car has ever ran this butter smooth on the terrible pothole-filled Bay Area roads. (Vehicle was purchased and ran the first 2 years in Las Vegas, NV before making the move to the Bay Area). Matt is incredibly professional, friendly, and very personable. He knows how to connect with customers, create lasting impressions, and build trust with clients. In a potentially iffy environment as vehicle service when it comes to pricing and what can sometimes be perceived as "letting down" clients, Matt always stays positive, shows incredible tact, and can sympathize much more than I would have expected. Upon learning that I had a major drive axle issue that was going to nearly double my initial quote, Matt was able to provide suggestions, give options, and helped me with the overall cost to make sure I could weigh out every possible option available to get this necessary service done. Other advisors I have worked with had simply told me the work needed to be done, the pricing, and for the most part had said "It is what is is. Now what do you want to do?" "Well, wonderful, I feel SO much better and confident that my service advisor is taking care of me." No, not Matt Detorres. He is the epitome of what great customer service truly means, and he leaves lasting impressions with his clients. Whenever possible, I highly recommend his work and service. I am confident that anyone who takes my advice would agree. Hilltop Kia has been incredibly helpful and worked very well with me in the 3 total times I have brought my current vehicle in for service.
