Really good, not your average strips! Fries are bomb! Sandwich is really different would get all again!

Returned here recently, not as good as before. Chicken taste was a bit on the dry side. Not sure if I'll try again soon.

I've been to the Fullerton location, but now that they have a place closer to home I can get my delicious chicken fix when the craving hits. Holdaak holds a special place in my heart because the combination of a Korean style double fried chicken in a sandwich form is an absolute game changer. If you miss the traditional sweet pickled radishes on the side, well you get that on top as a daikon slaw and it only adds to the amazing taste of the sandwich. Did I mention the comeback sauce? I don't know what's in it but my god, I can eat that for days. My go-to chicken joint in OC. Me and my boyfriend ALWAYS come to Holdaak when we're craving fried chicken. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and fries meal which was VERY tasty!!! However, I am a bit "thrifty", shall we say.... so I found that $10 felt pretty expensive for just a sandwich and fries. Charging $1.50 extra for a spicy vs the non spicy sandwich and extra for extra sauces also felt pretty expensive to me (hence the 4 stars.) however, I understand a business has got to make money! The person at the register was very helpful and clear in answering my questions, which I appreciated. I also thought they did a very good job at keeping things clean and safe in this covid era, so points for that! Overall this was a pretty good place and I'm sure I'll be back when I have a craving for a chicken sandwich during my lunch break! OK - I randomly heard about this spot. My wife mentioned she'd received a Yelp notification about this Hot and New place... so I decided we'd check it out. It's COVID-19 time... so I opted for an online order. One thing I'll say... no restaurant can seem to get the online ordering timing quite right these days. Aside from my food being ready too soon... everything was great about my experience. The most notable part of my visit was the superb quality of the chicken. Moist, flavorful, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The second most notable thing about my visit was that I was the only one going in or out, customer-wise. I walked in, there were three employees there, I got my stuff (and I'd paid online) and I walked out. Easy - but there was no other guest to be found. I say that so I can follow it up with PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES. And this is one worth supporting - man, my chicken was good. Ever since I discovered Holdaak in Fullerton, they have always been my go to chicken sandwich spot. But, yesterday they missed their mark. I ordered two original chicken sandwiches and one spicy chicken sandwich with fries and when ordering my food I asked the cashier if they can add extra daikon slaw on the sandwiches and she replied "sure". When I got to my mom's place, I noticed that there was no extra daikon slaw on the sandwiches and the cashier only gave us one comeback sauce for 3 sandwiches and a order of fries. I'm still giving 3 stars because the food was delicious but I was disappointed the cashier failed to pay attention to detail. The sauce is what complements their food so well! read more

Came here for takeout during COVID. We recommend ordering while driving over in the car to decrease your wait time! I tried calling but they only take online orders through their website. At least it let me use my Apple Pay on my phone. When we got there on a Saturday night there was a medium sized line but we easily bee-lined our way to the pickup counter. Here's the sitch on their sandies: 1. Spicy Chicken Sandwich (4/5): a unique take on a hot chicken sandwich. Don't expect a Nashville classic southern style sandwich, instead it's an Asian Vietnamese inspired sandwich. I was a bit disappointed that the meat of the sandwich is not made of one big juicy battered chicken breast but rather two dismal sized chicken tenders. Mine were so microscopic there was more batter than chicken. However the batter is crispy the taste is fairly good but too salty. I had to drown the sandwich in their tangy orange aioli sauce to make it better. They jipped my BF and forgot to give him his sauce in our takeout order which sucked. But we shared. The slaw itself isn't cabbage but rather pickled daikon reminiscent of the toppings on a banh mi sandwich. The jalapeños were good on top too but they didn't put enough on for me just one skinny slice. It wasn't spicy enough. This one was the better of the two sandwiches though 2. Original chicken sandwich - fairly good, this one came with bigger chicken tenders on the inside compared to the spicy one must be the luck of the draw, but they should be more consistent. the ketchup is nice but I prefer the orange sauce that came with the spicy chicken sandwich. I would recommend going for the spicy one cause the flavors are stronger and more unique 3. Fries - run of the mill, crispy satisfying 2$ additional charge to add to your sandwich Overall I give it a 3.5-4. I got a massive headache from all the salt after but what can you expect after a fried chicken sandwich and fries. Conclusion: Not the best hot chicken sandwich, a take on an Asian hot chicken sandwich, but not the worst I've had either. I probably won't be coming back. read more

A friend recommended this place for me and a couple other friends so we tried the place out. I think I just got their original fried chicken sandwich with fries and a drink. Service was easy and fairly quick. I think my favorite part of the sandwich for me was the pickled radish in it. It gave the sandwich a pop of flavor and freshness that it needed. This used to be my go to place for chicken wings. Right down the street. I still remember when they first opened, taking over the old taco shop. Nicely cooked wings and tenders. Great fries. Consistency was impressive. Can still remember the anticipation of opening up those cardboard boxes and happily digging in. Wtf happened? First tenders went to these much smaller dried out pieces. Fries changed. Started getting the occasional weird mini nubs being counted as chicken wings. New Seoul flavor not really my cup of tea. Ok, supply chain, inflation, etc. the now usual excuses that everyone uses when things go downhill. Then the final straw: prices up 50%. Really sad, almost like losing an old friend. We would go at least once a week if not more during the pandemic. I used to sing it's praises to everyone when comparing to other chicken shops. Did they get too big and are only focused on profits? Same complaints as my previous one-star review: Tiny portions, overpriced food (they've increased prices *again* in the couple of months since my last review), salt-bomb seasoning, and mushy french fries. I'm done. This place is going downhill fast. If you're curious about it, go buy some exorbitantly-priced chicken sandwiches or tenders before they go out of business. They probably won't be around by Summer 2023. I have wanted to try this place for a long time. I would drive by it and finally decided to stop in. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and my friend got the original chicken sandwich. We got fries with one of the orders. The spicy chicken sandwich was amazing! It is the best chicken sandwich I have ever had in my life. The flavors melded so well, chicken was well seasoned, and the bun was so soft and buttery. It came with a creamy sauce, but it was perfect just the way it came. My friend liked her sandwich too. I let her try some of my sandwich and she feel in love with it. The fries were a yummy addition to the meal. This is a must for friend chicken sandwich fans! read more

The chicken and fries are really good. I had the Holdaak Spicy sandwich with the daikon slaw and it loved it. I also added the elote cup on the side and it was really good too. The fries are crinkle cut with seasoning and they are cooked just right (crispy on the outside and soft in the middle). Like one of the other commenters, I found the kitchen supplies and spices on the floor as you walk in a turn off. I will definitely return due to the for take out though. I had to lower my star rating because of the price increases. I used to pay $11 for 3 strips and fries and a 15% tip. Now it is $21.10 for the same. Ok, I don't even know where to start or how to do Holdaak justice, but I will try. I was formerly really into a chicken drive through that will not be named and over the past few years I have watched the quality go down. Ok, well I always end up there on a Sunday when they are closed, so maybe the universe is trying to tell me something. And I think that something was "Holdaak is way better." And they are. Truthfully, this place is ridiculously good. Nice sized chicken tenders and yummy fries that comes seasoned with a little bit of a kick. We have been bringing it home so the toast has been getting soggy, but in a global pandemic you kind of just have to suck it up and eat it soggy. If you like spicy their spicy tenders and sandwich carries a decent amount of heat, which goes perfect the Comeback sauce. The only downside is I love, LOVE, daikon slaws, but not their's, or at least it hasn't been consistent. Anyway, definitely recommend, and have to friends. It's a hit. read more

Seriously used to be one of my favorite local places to grab a bite of chicken, after the menu changes it is absolutely far from that. The original staples (true 3 & 5 piece) are completely gone from the menu and are now replaced by a huge piece of chicken that not only lacks any flavor but absolutely is different in texture. Not to mention the fries were also different than previous times and were absolutely different than advertised in all menu photos. Price increases and a decline in menu quality makes this a major miss for me. read more

I know Holdaak has its roots in Korean cuisine, but the pickled veggies they put on the sandwiches really remind me of bahn mi. Okay, whatever. I called in an order to go. Three sammies with fries and a couple sides of slaw set me back a little over $20. A good value considering we were all pretty satisfied with the portions. The chicken is pretty generous. Good chicken sandwich, better than Canes. The chicken piece is huge and covers the entire bun. The bun doesn't fall apart. The daikon slaw is an acquired taste, if you're unsure, do the cole slaw. Fried chicken sandwich places have been popping up more recently! Decided to give Holdaak a try since it's pretty close to my house. Would give it a 3.5 out of 5! I got the original fried chicken sandwich, fries, coleslaw, daikon slaw, and the popcorn chicken. The chicken was seasoned very well and was paired nicely with the daikon slaw and comeback sauce. However, I didn't care for their coleslaw as it tasted like it was packaged from a store. The popcorn chicken I could have done without as well. The popcorn chicken tasted dry and had a little too much breading on it. Overall, the prices here are decent and the chicken sandwich is worth the shot. read more
