This was very delicious and plenty of food for three of us. I got the spicy broth and I think I would have preferred the original. It was a tad too spicy but they gave me more regular broth when my friend asked for me. One thing I loved was how the mushrooms came on a mushroom shaped plate.

There is no parking so we parked at Ala Moana and walked over. The broth was a little too gingery for me and my husband didn't care for the seaweed in the broth. They don't really have a lot to select from. They did have two other broths on their specials board which we didn't see until after we ordered. I definitely regret getting the house seasonings, but again there wasn't much choices for dipping sauces either but it was a bunch of spices. I was a little annoyed that the fish ball said it was filled with roe but when I ate it, it was filled with meat and not roe which is the one thing I really wanted. So that was disappointing. And our total was about $100 for two of us. The staff were great and really nice and checked on us frequently. From the same folks at Honolulu Skewer House, Honolulu Hotpot Hale is a new Chinese hot pot spot near Ala Moana. It's near Ala Moana but not in the mall, so parking can be tricky. Your best bet might be parking at the mall (target side) and walking over. My friend lives nearby so we were able to walk over from her apartment. She has been here a few times and when they started their weekly specials- we made a plan to go together on a Tuesday for their BOGO meat yard. We got their lamb and pork belly-- along with duck feet ( it was my first time trying it, I think it taste like tripe!) and their fish ball with row for our proteins. I will say, I do slightly regret ordering the pork belly, it was very fatty and with the oily soup- it was just very oily. Next time, I'd stick with just the lamb or try out the beef. For veggies we got a few sets: V1 mushroom set, LOVE that it comes in on a cute mushroom plate V2 with cabbage, broccoli, spinach and a Chinese greens V6 with glass noodles V7 frozen tofu If this was an AYCE spot, I def would have ordered more veggies (and probably felt better the next morning). My favorite part of hot pot is all the different veggies, especially mushrooms and cabbage to balance out the oil in the hot pot broth and all the fatty meat. I ordered their Chinese sauerkraut soup base -- I feel like sauerkraut isn't the best way to describe it- it does have that vinegary, almost kimchi like vibe, but more in line with a Tom Yum soup base. Each soup comes individually and is $6-- plus they will refill your soup with base throughout your meal as it boils off. My friend got the spicy broth and says that it's the spiciest hot pot on the island. I will say, that the grills don't have a heat setting - it's either on or off and you can't really adjust it if you think the soup is too hot. For dipping sauce we got their lime vinegar sauce, it's honestly so good would highly recommend! The vibes and atmosphere is honestly where it's at. From the stone limewash walls, plants hanging everywhere and the cute colors of the hot pot grills -- I really love the aesthetic here.

First time here. I was not impressed. Very limited options in vegetables and sauces. They do have more options on meat than most hot pot. Not on seafood though. Portion was small. They have weekday specials and we happened to go on Wednesday for their half off wagyu items. Such a good deal! The meat portions are pretty large overall and great for sharing. I got the beef broth and it was pretty good. I definitely liked the vinegar lime sauce! Service was very friendly but a little slow. We only received the wagyu once we were almost done with everything else, including our veggies and rice (and after being told twice it was coming out soon). They also have takeout containers available if you're not able to finish your food or want to take home the broth!

It's truly amazing how one look, comment, or act can completely make or break a dining experience. This place is getting 2 stars because the food is amazing, but my experience was completely ruined by my server making an unnecessary, smart @$$ comment! Backstory: I'm by no means a regular, but I have been here several times before. I don't live in town and they don't open until 5PM, so when o find myself this side in the evening time, I make it a point to stop by. Parking isn't super convenient but the food is worth it! Today: I come in as a party of 1 and am seated at a lovely table by the window. She brings me a menu, asks if I've been there before (I say yes), and leaves me to decide. A reasonable amount of time later, the server returns to take my order. After I place it and while I'm waiting for my food, I decide to go wash my hands. I walk up to the counter and ask where the restroom is. Her reply was "I thought you have been here before?" AT THIS POINT there is nothing that you can say to recover this experience. This completely unnecessary smart Alec remark changed the entire dynamic. Not only is the flawed assumption that every customer goes to the bathroom in play, but you are in the customer service business! Idk if I have been here 50-11 times, if I ask, you tell me where the restroom is and keep your smart ass mouth to your self! It's not often that I leave NO TIP, but today was the day...

No wait for dinner time on a Monday night. Flavorful Broth, good amount of spice. Not ayce but a decent amount of meat on the yard plate for about $32 Cool portable Burners, Clean interior, city location with street nearby. No bathroom inside restaurant that I could find but maybe it was somewhere outside. Service was ok, friendly but not super attentive. Only wierd thing was that there was a sign for 15% off bill on Mondays I think but when we inquired about it they said we have to write a review or check in on yelp first and then show the staff before we could get the discount. The sifnoutside didn't mention that part but it was ok.

I think the only decent Chinese style hot pot place on Oahu. Their broths are the most fragrant and flavorful compared to other Chinese hot pot places. They are only opened for dinner and reservations are not necessary unless it's the holidays.

Came here on a Tuesday night walk-in for the first time. This hot pot place is conveniently located close to the Ala Moana mall, just a walk away. Friendly staff welcomed us and introduced us to how to order. They suggested a special deal of the day: buy 1 and get 1 yard of meat, so we got Prime beef short rib and the Kurobota belly. Still a bit pricey, but loved the presentation of the meat, and we were each given our own heating pots. I tried the Chinese Sauerkraut soup--and it's definitely a relatively new taste for me as a hot pot soup. Slightly spicy, but I loved it! Original beef soup is the other option if you can't decide. The sauces have room for improvement IMO... For veggies, I got the glass noodles and sweet potato noodles (super slippery if you have trouble using chopsticks- grab it with something else, LOL, no one is judging). I recommend it! Plus, you can't miss some scoops of rice (Asian, you know). Shoutouts to the friendly staff, as it always makes a difference. Recommended after a whole day out at the mall or wherever you came from!

Came for lunch on a weekday at the typical lunch time. The restaurant was empty. This was good because service was fast. I was also weary as to why the restaurant wasn't busy during lunchtime. The food and broth was amazing. Everything was fresh. I asked the server why it's so slow when the food is so good. She said some customers or people checking out the restaurant say it's too expensive. It is on the pricier side for hot pot, but again, the vegetables are fresh and the meat is good quality. They are located on Keeaumoku. I walked here, so I'm not sure about parking. You could park at the Ala Moana mall and walk over. Its right across the street! The restaurant is very clean and its got a comfortable vibe. I can't wait to come back!

Great hotpot experience with fresh vegetables and tofu! The Spicy Sauerkraut Broth was the favorite amongst my dining companion. We also enjoyed the sweet sesame dip as well as the lime vinegar dip. A must visit when you are in the Ala Moana area!

We were craving hot pot tonight and was tired and Shaboya so we tried Honolulu Hot Pot and was very pleased with the quality of food. Chicken broth was great. We also got a foot long order of the prime beef toro. If u like some fat your thinly sliced beef try this one. All seasonings was delicious and enhanced the beef flavor. Veggies were fresh and crispy. Would highly recommend giving this place a shot. They will surprise your belly.

We were excited to try out this new hotpot place, made reservations at 7pm, sat down around 7:20pm. The menu was slightly confusing, like what is the amount of meat in a 1/2 yard of meat? The vegetable sets didn't sound appetizing at all. We ordered brisket and pork belly, with cabbage, fried tofu, udon and rice. For the broth we got the Hale Mild and Original Beef. As we were waiting for our food, I saw one of the waiters grab a dirty wine glass and rinse it in the sink, rubbed his fingers around the rim a few times, rinsed it, then wiped it with paper towels and put it away. No soap! Glad I don't order wine. Broths came out and he didn't light our heaters, then the cabbage and fried tofu came out. He finally lit the heaters. About 5 mins later, the pork belly came out, 10 mins later the brisket came out. I asked for some plates because we didn't have rice or anything to eat our food on and the waiter acted like I asked him for his first born child. It's a fricken plate man, geez. Our udons got delivered to the wrong table then picked up and brought to our table, seriously?! Then I asked about the rice and he said they're making it and it'll be out shortly. After eating about half our food, I asked again about the rice and he said they were out. So I asked for another udon. Didn't offer to comp the extra udon or anything. How do you run out of rice? Then one of the waiters came by and asked if they could take the plate of cabbage....that still had cabbage on it. Not like a small piece left on the plate, like 8 or 9 whole pieces of cabbage leaves. Da hell? No you can't take it! Food was decent, broth had a nice flavor, meat looked fresh. Fried tofu was spongy and kinda gross when put in the broth. But I don't think it was worth the price. For that amount of food, bill was $100. And we were still hungry. Ridiculous! Service should've been much better for that price. I get they just opened, but no, not going back. I'd rather go to Shabuya. And...ended up eating McDonald's after. read more

Came with high hopes. The menu was a little confusing as the set sizes weren't really clear. Our broths were the last to arrive and when trying to order rice, they said they ran out. (Then we saw the table after us get rice ;; at least tell us you're making it rather than it's all gone). Upon bringing our broths out, the waiter almost left two of our stoves unlit. Speaking of those burner stoves, they are at an uncomfortable height compared to the rest of the table items like bowls plates and sauces. I ordered the house skewer seasoning "sauce" but I was not expecting to get a dry taco seasoning packet in a bowl. Meat was good but the vegetable and seafood sets were not great. I'm not a huge fan and probably will not ever be coming back. I honestly could write more but it's already bad as it is. read more

This is the best hot pot I've had on the island by far. I've been here for the last two years and have tried any hotpot or shabu shabu place I see. This place is on a different level of quality in comparison. Ive been here a couple of times since it opened and it's been great every time. I personally love the Chinese sauerkraut broth, even though I didn't expect to based on the name. The quality of the food feels high, and the presentation of the raw ingredients is surprisingly well thought out. If you're looking for good hot pot on the island you'd be missing out by not trying this place. read more

This is the best hotpot place in town! Authentic Chinese hotpot. Individual pots for each person! A good variety of food to select, fresh and healthy. Restaurant is clean and slick, staff are friendly and nice. I got the tomato soup base and it was good! The desert - Mung Bean Milk Shake Bowl served in a coconut shell, is delicious. All four of us love Honolulu Skewer House so we were rly excited try out this place. Overall, it was a tasty meal and would come back again. The broths were amazing / authentic, I especially recommend the Chinese sauerkraut one - it's sour and flavorful with a hint of spiciness. I would say the meat and veggies were good but seemed overpriced for the portion / quality. I would also try to order veggies a la carte as some of the sets came with options (e.g. seaweed) that are not as widely liked. I expect / hope the service portion would improve once the crew gets more reps in, as service was pretty slow overall (but very friendly). They are definitely understaffed and are still in the process of optimizing their flow of operations, so a little bit of patience will be good. read more

I came here due to lots of good reviews but after i tried this place days ago, i guess i know where the good reviews from, the free drink!!! we saw some people posted reviews b4 start eating and got the free drink. The service was good since there were nice servers who are nice and efficient but a tall chinese guy looks like owner (maybe?!) he rolled eyes on us. It was because one of our pot kept turning off itself and he wouldnt want to replace another working one, so when fire off again we tried to get his attention but he rolled eyes on us and turned away! the dinner was not even start yet and the pot was not ever boil, he refused to do anything, but luckily there were nice servers who helped to replace so we could finally start the dinner. the food portion and quality is not worth the price, a small scoop of rice charge $3 and they never have any plate or bowl for customer to eat. They gave out only sauce dish which is for noodle too. (what?? ) yes only sauce dish and no idea how to fit a udon in it, i guess it can only hold 1/8 of udon each time. The soup base and sauce were good, it can be more delicious if reduce sodium and MSG. We heard the table next to ours complaint this same issue too. Their pot size, well, the stove is tall which makes hard to take cooked food out from the pot esp noodle, our arms had to raise over ears / eye height to get noodle out. This made us so tire to cook and everyone refused to order more food even no one was full yet. For the meat quality, food quantity, the salty soup base, the way-over price and unpleasant cooking, we would never come back again. In town area there are lots of better choice around this restaurant. edited: thank you the reply from business owner first, I know what kind of restaurant is this and know what food we would get, I never compare your restaurant with japanese shabu shabu at all (neither in this review nor when dine in). I dont understand why u put this on me? Also, the taste that I mentioned is "salty", strong flavor can be light in sodium too. And yes as u said, your food has your special way which only for who will like it. But can the customer review their own experience in this public platform? or u allow who will post positive 5 stars review only? Also, I never complaint about seating at all, even we have elderly with us, she had no issue with the counter chair. I wonder why u posted this matter seems like I had complaint about it? please focus on what your customers had posted . Last, how many times when we get your attention but u rolled your eyes and ignored, I am not going to mention it in detail cause you have really excellent staffs who take care everyone well. 1/2 yards of beef. Very fresh and generous portions. V6 Black and White Tofu, V1 Mushroom Set, V7 Potato Waterfall (long shredded potatoes), V3 Beancurd Set. Hale Spicy Soup and Chinese Sauerkraut Soup. S2 Fishball Set. All excellent presentation and very fresh and tasty. Will definitely be back for more. read more

The food was super good they have a variety of soups some are spicy and some are regular then you choose your meat/protein you can get A5 Wagyu, short ribs, chicken feet, spam, and shrimp the you choose your vegetables they have mushrooms, cabbage, and spinach. Service was very nice even though they have two waiters they still have some of the best customer service and they don't forget about you. When I walked in I could fell the energy, the light is just right and is very decorative. In the end I recommend the original soup with short ribs and cabbage, spinach, broccoli, and their homemade noodles. read more

Tried original beef broth and chinese saurkraut broth with a tray of kurobuta pork and beef. Not impressed, I'd rather go to Shabuya or Ichiriki or if you still want to support same owner as HHH go to Volcano Skewer House which was awesome!!! read more

Authentic Chinese hotpot! You can smell the spice even from outside- you know it will be good! The soup was spicy enough with perfect amount of numbing. And meat quality was good! Since we skipped the noodles, they generously gave us extra wontons instead, which was a really thoughtful touch. What really pushed this place from good to memorable, though, was the staff. We were there with our two and four year old and they couldn't have been kinder. They brought over little toys to keep the kids occupied, checked on us throughout the meal and made us feel genuinely welcome. None of it felt forced. Well, the Monkeypod Kitchen Mai Tai is that "song" for me. No matter how many months pass between trips to Hawaii, it's the one thing I'm always craving. First stop after our five plus hour flight is to always sit at the bar and hum my way through a Mai Tai. We've tried competitors' Mai Tais, but Monkeypod has THE BEST Mai Tai on the island (possibly the country)! It contains a double shot of rum, so pace yourself if you're a lightweight. What makes this extraordinary is the lilikoi (passion fruit) foam on the top. It's the reason I am "passion"ately in love with this cocktail. We've eaten at a table in their main dining room, however, we really enjoy bar seating during Happy Hour, which is from 3:30pm-5:00pm, daily (except select holidays) and again from 9:00pm-11:00pm. It is first come first serve at the bar. If you prefer table seating, be sure to make a reservation. The wait can be long without one. Their Happy Hour items include all of their appetizers at half price, excluding any seafood. My little sister enjoyed her bbq chicken with a side of salad and it looked really juicy. The loco moco was on the drier side while the seafood platter offered a decent variety of different seafoods which my mom really enjoyed. The calamari appetizer was perfectly breaded and we all loved it! I enjoyed the ahi tuna but I wish there was more flavor to the fish. The fish was nicely cooked and a paired well with the rice and salad. Since we walked to this restaurant, I didn't get a chance to see where parking was but I assume hotel parking is used for this establishment.

I was really looking forward to trying Honolulu Hotpot Hale, but unfortunately, the experience fell short due to disappointing service. Our server was unhelpful and unfriendly, making us feel unwelcome throughout our meal. They advertised a 15% off promotion on Mondays, but when we inquired about it after being charged the full amount, we were told it required posting on Instagram and tagging the business--something that wasn't mentioned anywhere in the advertisement. When we pointed this out, the server said there was nothing she could do because we already paid. It's concerning because, under Hawaii law, advertising a discount without clearly stating the terms and conditions can be considered false advertising. While 15% isn't a huge amount, it's the principle of transparency that's important. Overall, the lack of clear communication and poor service left a bad taste, and I doubt I'll be returning. read more

In total we ordered egg tart, 2x chicken feet, 2x shrimp dumplings, spinach and seafood dumplings, bean curd seaweed rolls, shrimp look funn, and pork and century egg porridge, for just under $60 including tax. We all agreed the custard tarts were good. Flaky and soft crust with a perfect custard (altho the kid and hubs both got liquidy centers). The chicken feet is peppery and umami, unlike most places with steamed peanuts or black beans. More importantly, the skin was tender and silky and collagen-y and not rubbery. The bean curd roll was tasty as well, almost like a steamed spring roll, with I think a mix of seafood and possibly jicama and carrots.
