I rarely give 5 stars but this little shop has it all. They have self serve coffee, good prices, the ocean is a block away and plenty of room to work. They also have plugs unlike this new trend where coffee shops avoid putting them through out to keep customers moving along. On top of all that they have superfast Internet which has a download speed and upload speed of nearly 40 MB per second. To some that may not be important but when we are uploading projects for work, it's vital and appreciated. I drove from downtown Los Angeles to this location to get some work done, because the energy here is very positive and worth the drive. read more

I absolutely love this place. I am a big coffee fanatic. My husband surprised me one morning by taking me to a new little coffee spot (hot Java) to enjoy a cup of coffee together. I absolutely loved the atmosphere & the employees/owner were so friendly & helpful! Once my coffee was ready I took a sip and OMG, I was in heaven! It was absolutely delicious! The whipped cream they used on it was so creamy that it tasted almost like ice cream! Best cup of coffee I've had! I also recommend getting their jalapeño bagel with cream cheese, so yummy! I came here Sunday before heading to the dog park with my boyfriend. We just planned on grabbing a coffee, but after seeing the breakfast menu, we ended up ordering brunch as well. I must say, I'm very surprised with the negative reviews on this LB gem, because my experience was very pleasant. We ordered the avo toast and egg-white omelette, and both were fresh and delicious. Hot Java seems to be a happening spot in Long Beach on this beutiful warm sunday afternoon. All the seats in the house seem to be taken up, making it quite the popular spot. The tables that are put on the outside are all taken up by people enjoying what is left of the warm weather. Not a table available for me :) In the background, 90's music is playing, taking me back to my high school days. Its at just the right volume, setting a great atmosphere making it so that people can comfortably speak to one another. The artwork on the walls gives it a nice touch. Some of the artwork is for sale. The snack fridge they have is fully stocked with lots of baked goods. Muffins, coffee cake, bear claws and they even have fruit in there for the health conscience. As I type this, i am sipping on my medium soy vanilla latte with extra vanilla, my favorite coffee concoction. Its a very tasty treat. Its fresh and its good! Not bad for the $3.95 that they charged, its 50 cents extra for the soy milk. The cashier was very polite and attentive. I have never had a negative experience here aside from it being too crowded where I cant find a spot to enjoy my coffee and yelp some more. And when that happens, it can take a while before finally fulfilling my caffeine addiction given they have a lot of orders to make, but its definately worth the wait read more

Situated on a busy corner and near the beach and a park, this is a great neighborhood coffee place. My first visit, a couple of weekends ago, I found it crowded both inside and out, but with a friendly vibe and decent atmosphere. My second trip, on a Monday afternoon, found the place considerably less crowded but everything else the same. I can recommend the Carmel Blast and the Chicken Pesto Sandwhich. First off, this place is always packed, which is a good sign to me. Its comfortable, there are plenty of different seating arrangements, whether you're by yourself or with 5 or 6 people, you're set. The staff is all very friendly, and the boys are all so cute! Have been a customer for more than 5 years, but today was the very last time bringing my business to them. The afternoon shift has no idea how to make a proper blended coffee.. my "coffee" was white because of the milk, no coffee flavor at all and the ice used for it was already melted in my cup as soon as the girl barista placed it on the counter. My friends and I have noticed that when these two employees are there our coffees always taste pure milk, are unwelcoming, on their phones or removing their masks all the time. The tables outside are always dirty too, which I do not get, since when I visit in the afternoon it is never busy and the employees just stand there behind the counter playing with their phones. As this is the only coffee shop in the neighborhood, I hope the owner will take care of it and improve his establishment's operations by hiring skilled and friendly employees with a customer service experience. read more

I was at Hot Java late this morning on Saturday October 15, 2016, and I feel the need to explain why it wil be the last time I ever return. It's become impossible to simply order a muffin and coffee without being harrassed by the male employee with the short gotee, who obsessively and repeately makes underhanded remarks about why I won't tip him. He doesn't miss an opportunity to be mean with a smile. On a previous visit my husband was given change by the same guy who just had to tell my husband that he could leave a tip with the change he just got back. And today he implied that because I wear a nice bracelet I can afford to tip him. It's so obviously unprofessional to try to shame a customer into tipping you that I wonder if the man is unhinged. Really. I could offer more examples of his rude behavior, but I think you get the point. No business should punish regular customers who didn't leave a couple of dimes in a tip jar. The people who do leave a couple of dimes in the tip jar get access to the wifi code, whereas the rest do not. This business is now losing our twenty bucks a week over the loss of a couple of dimes. In publishing this review I hope fellow yelpers don't blame themselves should this same troubled employee offend you, and although it's a long shot I hope the owner takes notice. The muffins and coffee are tastey but I CAN find that elsewhere. In fact, Jacks on Broadway makes delisious pastries and the employees there have Jack's back. They aren't selfishly undermining the bottom line. Customers at Jack;s are valued and rewarded with great service and friendly demeanor. read more

This place is pretty chill. I came here for the first time today and I had a good experience. There was Christmas music playing and lights decorating the place, it was warm and cozy. The barista was really chill and friendly. I ordered an iced vanilla chai latte and it was delcious. It looked like there was a lot of delicious fresh bakery but in an attempt to not be fat, I didn't eat any of it. I liked that the crowd didn't seem super snobby like it does at some coffee shops. Ya know how sometimes you go to one and you walk in and everyone looks at you like you don't belong? Well they don't do that here so that was a plus. There's a ton of seating inside including comfy couches, large tables, small tables.. and also some seating outside. It's not overly crowded but has a good enough crowd to make it not be a ghost town. It would be a good place to come catch up with a friend or sit and type on your computer and pretend your super important and working on some novel or whatever. Haha, little joke.
