The cute little outdoor terrace caught my attention and the dimly lit interior. I was immediately sat by my waitress who was so kind and polite. She immediately showed me the specials which, I didn't get any, but they all sounded so good. I had the Carozza (lightly breaded mozzarella in a marinara sauce) which was so delicious! Not oily, just the right amount of melt, and the sauce had such a new flavor. Very good. Then I had the Linguine Vongole (pasta, tossed with tender in-shell Manila clams, sautéed in olive oil, white wine and garlic). TO DIE FOR! Rich in flavor, nom fishy taste, fresh tasting. Il Capriccio is a solid Neapolitan-style restaurant, if you're near Vermont and Fountain, where Hollywood bumps up against Los Feliz. We ate in the front patio, at a comfortable table. The menu had several classic dishes, but we settled on Calamari Fritti as a starter, Rigatoni Norcina (sausage and tomato sauce-not pictured)), Tagliolini Nero (Squid ink pasta with prawns in a pink sauce), and Pollo alla Milanese (chicken cutlet with arugula and sides). We finished with a tiramisu (not pictured). The servings were well-portioned, and the flavor was good. The bread was warm and delicious and served with a side of pungent tapenade in olive oil that was very pleasing. The Pollo Milanese was a satisfying portion with a crispy crust and a pleasant handful of arugula on top. My companion asked for potatoes as a side and they brought out pasta, which they quickly swapped, although the incredulous question, "What--you don't like pasta?!" made me blab something mindless about gluten. It's true, my companion cannot eat large amounts of gluten without severe discomfort. A small bite or two (like the Milanese crust) she can manage, but a plate of pasta would knock her over. There are no gluten free pastas available (and that's okay since there are potatoes and vegetables) but having to explain WHY you ordered something which is ON the menu to someone who seems a little annoyed is awkward. That being said, our other companion has been going there for years, so there might be some familiarity there that opened up the table to this banter. The squid ink tagliolini was al dente, served in a bowl with the right amount of a sweet, creamy sauce, with five prawns. I liked it. I always choose to have my first taste of a new pasta dish without extra Parmesan, so I declined it when it was offered, but I would have liked an opportunity to add some after my first few bites, as the tangy saltiness would have helped cut through some of the sweet creaminess of the sauce. But that wasn't an option. Again, I think I might have committed the second faux pas at the table. The rigatoni looked good, although I didn't get a taste, The person who ordered it is a very picky eater, so the fact that he enjoyed it and took the leftovers home is a good sign. The calamari starter was crispy but I would choose another starter the next time to see what they have on offer. The tiramisu at the end was delicious! Not overly sweet, moist, and well-balanced. If you like tiramisu, you'll like this one. Will I return? Yes, why not? They have good, traditional food. Hot summer day in LA. Sat inside, fans above were on and trying but a little hot for me inside. 7pm reservation and we got sat immediately so that was nice. Also, everyone there was friendly. Started with bread and an olive tapenade with olive oil. Nice switch to the usual oil and vinegar starter. Tasty. Wife got Picatta di Pollo and I went for the gnocchi. Entrees were solid all around. Wife finished her plate and that rarely happens, carrots, broccoli were steamed nicely. Gnocchi was flavorful and delicious. Grabbed the crème brûlée and its a large portion. Stopped by Il Capriccio for an early dinner while in the area; we had a reservation at 6pm, but we came early and the waitress was nice to let us get seated an hour earlier. Inside was old school, a step back in time and offered a no-frills atmosphere. Service was pleasant, and it appears to be family-run. I ordered the tagliolini neri, aka squid ink pasta with shrimp and pink sauce. It took over an hour to get our food, even though we were one of two patrons in the restaurant. Food eventually arrived, piping hot, and it was tasty enough: I do wish that the pasta was a bit more al-dente and perhaps more flavorful-- even a bit of salt would've been better. Overall, an okay-experience. We were really put off by the extremely-long wait for our food, and it was pretty good, but nothing worth waiting that long for. But I appreciated the nice service and it did feel like eating inside a trattoria in New York, with its nonnas and no-nonsense vibes. read more

What a gem. We were on our way down the 5 from Burbank to the OC and stopped for my husband's favorite type of food. The owner is an alumni from my high school and I had never been to his restaurant although he has had this location and several others for over a couple of decades. I rarely come to LA. We had a great time. We sat on the small patio although there were wonderful tables inside. Loved the feel of sitting out there, people watching. Reminded us of Europe and the sidewalk cafes. Ran into another classmate there! What were the chances of that? Anyway, we enjoyed their delicious bread and started with their calamari while looking over the menu. The calamari was made with a perfect batter, light and crispy with a very good dipping sauce. Next we shared a Caesar salad (both were on the Happy Hour Menu). For dinner, my husband was torn with several choices that caught his eye but as often is the case, stuck with his Linguine Vongole which he was very happy with. He truly knows his preferences and found this dish to have sweet clams with a flavorful sauce. Ermanno explained how he chose to cook his as to why it comes out so nicely. I ordered the branzino which came with angel hair pasta and vegetables. A lovely plate presentation and soooo good. For dessert we shared the apple tart heated a la mode. Il Capriccio is, along with La Parolaccia Osteria in Long Beach, one of best Italian restaurants in the Greater LA Area. The food is universally good: I've literally never had a bad meal here. For a long time I ordered nothing but the frutti di mare with pasta. But there ever-changing menu has encouraged me to explore a variety of Italian dishes from gnocchi to ravioli. The inside of the restaurant feels very New York: West Village or Lower East Side. Narrow, long restaurant. But very charming in decor. Service has always been very nice and prompt. My wife and I celebrated our 28th Valentine's together at Il Capriccio, and I cannot believe it took me over 30 years of living in Southern California to finally come here. Because we usually do Saturday lunches with our kids, and this spot only opens in the evenings, it somehow stayed off our radar all these years. That turned out to be our loss. This place feels like a hidden gem. The prices honestly feel frozen in time, like what I remember paying a decade ago for truly excellent pasta and pizza. I am not a food critic, but I have eaten well, including trips to Italy. On one vacation, we even took a day trip from Rome to Naples just to try the Margherita pizza where it was born. I can genuinely say the Margherita here stands right up there with what I had in Naples. The crust, especially that last bite at the edge of the slice, was incredibly flavorful and satisfying. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side. Tables are close together and it gets lively, but it never feels over the top. The staff is warm and welcoming. If you are expecting your food to appear instantly, that will not happen. You will wait a bit. But it is absolutely worth it. We found an amazing Italian restaurant on Vermont Ave! The service was great, and the owner was friendly and witty! He made us feel like we were dining in his mom's kitchen in Naples. Beautiful clean restaurant with an Italian vibe throughout, white tablecloths, and old school pictures hanging on the walls. We had the Salsiccia pizza, and it was delicious! Generous amounts of sausage and mozzarella topped this pizza with a hint of roasted garlic and of course fresh basil, sooooo good, and soooo fresh! The Caprese antipasti salad was tasty as well, fresh sliced tamatoes, with slices of mozzarella over mixed greens topped with extra virgin olive oil and basil! All served with fresh warm bread, smelling and looking like it just came out the oven. What a lovely, delicious, and delightful surprise! If you truly want a taste of Italy, this is the spot! A true hidden gem. My husband and I used to come here when I was going through radiation at Kaiser - Sunset. We were in the area and decided to see if it was still here. We couldn't recall the name but knew how to get here from the hospital. Lucky for us we found it!!! The bread the bread the bread!!! The service was quick and the food they brought out was filling and delicious. For proximity to the Greek, it's right down the street. I just recently went to Il Capriccio for dinner. My partner and I had a very nice time! We were able to split a salad as an appetizer. We were also provided with bread and some sort of oil spread which was very nice. My partner got the pasta with clams and garlic. I tried it and it was delicious. I had the pollo dish which had a Gorgonzola and mushroom sauce. It was very good! And the side of vegetables that it came with were very good as well. They were cooked with garlic but it was subtle. I used to live in LA. And this was my favorite restaurant! I haven't been back here since 2015. I came back to visit friends and the first place I took my husband to dinner was Il Capriccio! The calamari and the Rigatoni Antonio were always my go to's and even a few years later they did not disappoint! I started coming here in 2013 and to have this amount of consistency...even after what I can only imagine were a hard couple of years...is amazing. This is a small, seemingly family-run Italian restaurant in a busy part of Vermont, across from the Dresden Room. There is street parking only, and just a few outdoor tables are on a small streetside patio. The inside is long and narrow. The food was good - not amazing. The prices were similar to other local Italian restaurants in 2024/2025 - pastas that should be $14-$17 are now $22-$25. They have pizza and some homemade desserts. I was there on a Tuesday night around 7pm and I was the only customer and it was a very dead vibe. When I got there I thought they were closed. You still get bred with this olive dip which is nice. I elected to get the Chicken special - Chicken breast in a cream sauce with peas and prosciutto. The meal was really disappointing. The chicken breast was moist but it was a small portion. The cream sauce was tasteless. I heard the cook ask my server what was in the sauce. You get 3 small slivers of potatoes and overcooked vegetables. I used to love their chicken dishes when they did bone in and I didn't mind waiting. They used to have large portions. What I got was not worth the price at all. Drove 30 miles to try this restaurant after seeing it featured on KTLA. Thought the owner could have at least said hello. Waitress was fantastic. The food was pretty good. We ordered lasagna, which was the best of the dishes we ordered. Also ordered Ravioli, gnocchi and cesar salad. Ravioli had great flavor, wish they were filled more. Ravioli portion size is too small. Gnocchi and salad were yummy so was the fresh bread. Took over an hour to get our food though. We all ordered dessert. Tiramisu needed more cream Apple tart was delicious Cannoli not good, something in it left an after taste. Plus, ricotta isn't shiny not sure what was in the filling. read more
