Finally honest mechanics that do a good job!

After a recent purchase of a high Mileage BMW 3 series, I looked for local shops to perform work that I couldn't do myself. Sean and the team at Import Car specialist provided a straight forward service but went the extra mile. They were open to the parts I provided for the car. Sean personally went over the jobs performed the allotted time frame and the process. The Shops straight forward honesty is something that goes beyond my expectations. I had intended to replace Differential mounts as per my own request, after Sean and his mechanics looked and tested the condition of those mounts informed they are in perfect working order. Explained the condition details what to look for and hear for if the mounts are beyond use. His honesty saved me 357 dollars labor alone. Just picked up my Mazda today. This was my first experience with this place. Sean was very clear with explaining what the issue was and what needed to be done to fix it. I also checked a couple of other places to compare pricing and it was in the ballpark or lower than other places. I agree with the other reviews here. I am so happy I found this company through yelp! They are very professional, honest, and fair. I took my Jetta in for squeaky brakes and they replaced the pads with advice on how to save the rotors in the future. In the past many places just replaced both pads and rotors and I never felt entirely comfortable that both needed the replacement. And, it was expensive! With Import, they were quite honest in that I took my car there just in time and the price on the repair was extremely reasonable. I will go to these guys for all my car repair needs! Sean and his team are without a doubt the best mechanics I've ever been to. My family has been taking all of our cars to ICS for about 3 years now, and we have had such wonderful experiences with this shop. Not only is Sean just a super nice guy, but he is SO HONEST! I've never been to another shop like ICS. Their work is perfect (never had an issue with any of their repairs), and they save you money! They'll tell you straight up if a problem is truly dire and needs to be fixed right away, or if it's something that can wait. Plus, they've helped us out on the bill multiple times (like just charging for the labor, or even doing little stuff for free). Seriously, these guys aren't the typical mechanics -- they don't try and hustle you, they don't charge for B.S. work that didn't need to be done, and they don't use off-brand cheap replacement parts. Sean has really gone the extra mile for us a bunch of times. The most recent time we were in, it was because my mother was trying to go see her dying father in the hospital when her E46 threw a CEL. My mom told the shop what was going on, so they squeezed her in that day with no appointment, and got her back on the road right away. She was able to make it to the hospital, and got to see her father one last time (he passed away only an hour or two after she arrived). If it wasn't for the kind, skilled, and honest folks at ICS, she wouldn't have been able to see him that last time. Absolutely top notch people! My wife and I have been going to this shop for the past year. I haven't done any comparison shopping with other mechanics in the area, but this team has given us quotes that seem reasonable. I have taken our cars there when I thought something was wrong and I was expecting a much larger quote, but the quote I have been given was significantly smaller because I find out that what I thought might be wrong with the car is not nearly as bad as I thought. For example, getting all of the struts replaced on my car, it turned out that only two of them were bad. I feel that these people have been exceptionally honest with my family and I think that is what we are looking for the most in a mechanic. I will continue to take our cars there. read more

Sean is one of the best mechanics around. And by best I mean smartest AND most honest. He is the only mechanic I have ever been to that will charge you for exactly the amount of time he spends on your vehicle and not a penny more. I have never heard of a mechanic that charges you for a fraction of an hour if its something quick. I had my dads brakes checked by Sean's team because they were squealing badly. Turned out to be a small bent piece of metal that had to be straightened behind the wheel somewhere. Sean charged me for 15 minutes of labor and that was it! Always polite and gives you the whole story, no BS! If he can't get you in to his schedule right away, he will refer you to someone else and even they are excellent! Sean repaired a problem I had with the alternator on my 2004 Mercedes E500. It also had a break on one of the reservoir tanks. After taking it home, a few days later the check coolant light turned on. One of the hoses was disconnected from the radiator. I took it to Sean and he repaired it, refilled it with coolant, pressure tested the car, and drove it to make sure it had no more problems. The cost? Nothing! I was expecting some charge but Sean is as honest as the day is long. He makes it hard for us to buy a domestic vehicle, as he only works on imports. No hesitation in recommending Import Car Specialists to anyone looking for great service at a reasonable price from mechanics that stand behind their work. read more

I think we just discovered a gem in visiting Import Car Specialists (ICS) in Thousand Oaks. We have a 2004 Mercedes E500 sedan that has long been out of warrantee. There was a problem with the brakes and a brakes warning message was displayed. I thought it may be necessary for new brake pads, as the car was not stopping well and I wanted to find a local repair shop to diagnose the problem. Yelp posted good reviews for this business so we took the car to ICS. After diagnosing the problem, they told us it may be a problem with the sensotronic brake control system. While this sounds like Greek to me, they said it may be covered by the dealership under a recall. They told us there was nothing wrong with the brake pads and did not charge me with anything for their time and expertise. I can only imagine taking my car to another repair shop and finding a large repair bill charged for replacement of brakes, at the very least. It is refreshing to have found a repair facility that demonstrates honesty and integrity. Kudos to master technician Sean Kawasaki and the others at ICS. I have found the repair shop I will visit next time I have a problem with our cars. read more

I took my Prius to ICS for a carbon buildup in the throttle body. I had called in many places and they all quoted me from 75 to 130. I then searched Yelp and found ICS. I called in and Sean informed me that they charge for half an hour for this service. I made an appointment and took the car. They had to work a little over 30 minutes on the car but was charged for 30 minutes as quoted. Everything is working great now. I appreciate the honesty and service at ICS. Had my 2002 BMW 325I towed in on my lunch break on Thursday afternoon last week to have the Crank Case Vent Valve replaced. Service was speedy and friendly. Walked around the corner to rent a car from Enterprise and headed back to work. My car was good as new by late morning the following day. Price was as quoted and I even used the Yelp Deal for extra savings. I had the same work done by my "regular' mechanic in Sherman Oaks about 4 years ago and I found the receipt. Import Car Specialists charged me much less than I paid before! I recommend this shop and will definitely be taking it there again for all future car maintenance. read more

To find a honest mechanic who actually knows how to work on imports was a project. I found Import Car Specialists here on Yelp, saw the fantastic reviews and decided to give them a try. First, with an oil change. Was so impressed with the service and pricing I decided this would be my shop. The customer service is top notch. They give the customer an occasional ride to their destination when needed, no other mechanic does that!!! They really know how to make their customers feel comfortable. They explain everything to you and won't perform services that are not yet needed. After the fantastic oil change, I took my car to them because it was making "weird" noises. They identified the problem and fixed it for a lot less than I would have expected. I have already recommended this shop to many friends who have imports. read more
