It's comforting. Even though I haven't eaten much Malaysian food in my life, the food here tastes like I have memories of it. It's what I enjoy There's usually a wait, but it goes quickly since the service is pretty quick
I have been coming to Ipoh since it opened. I came to Ipoh once a week for breakfast, and it was always delicious. I also noticed they now use a hot pot to serve the congee, which I found to be a nice touch. This keeps the congee warm. The staff, especially Tina, always provided excellent customer service. She introduced me to one of the special items. Fish soup with rice noodles. Wow, it was delicious. The soup was delicious, and I can tell Ipoh put effort into this dish. The fish congee and the Malaysian Stir-fried Rice Vermicelli were delicious. This is one of my favorite spots for breakfast, and I will come back. Not just the food, but also the great service.
Came here with a group of 14 people. We placed ourselves on the waitlist, and the maximum number of people are we out on waitlist is 8 people. I called and informed the receptionist, and she made a note on the correct number of people we have, which was helpful. We waited for around 15 min, and got offered to be separated into 2 tables. I was sitting in a smaller table by the entrance, and the air conditioning was dripping water. The water was dripping on my head, body, and purse throughout lunch. Minus one star. We ordered curry roti, hainan chicken, Bak kit teh, steam vegetable, and laksa noodle soup. I am not a fan of Hainan chicken, but the Hainan chicken at this place was tasty! The chicken was tender and flavorful! The curry roti and laksa noodle were delicious. The curry was not over powering the ingredients. The bak kit teh is a like of traditional Malaysian herb soup. I like it, but I can see a lot of people might not like it because of the herbal flavor. There are 2 levels of parking, but parking is limited.
I've been here several times, and it's still one of my favorite places for Hainan chicken in the SGV. The chicken is always incredibly tender and silky, and the garlic rice is fragrant and flavorful on its own. I also appreciate that it comes with chili sauce, scallion ginger oil, and sweet soy sauce so you can customize each bite. We also ordered the kaya toast, which was toasted perfectly with a crispy exterior, sweet kaya spread, and a thick slice of buttery goodness in the middle. It's simple but very satisfying. The restaurant is clean, service is quick, and the food comes out promptly. If you're looking for authentic Malaysian comfort food or a solid Hainan chicken spot, Ipoh Kopitiam is definitely worth a visit. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu.
Don't come here in the afternoon between 3-4:45p if you want the most popular dishes because that's when the chef takes a break lol. It was my first time and I wanted to try the chicken rice and laksa, and the char kwa tiew. Unfortunately they have an afternoon menu that doesn't include the latter two dishes. The chicken rice was just okay for me, the chicken was bland and the sauces a bit bland as well. I prefer Savoy and Cluck to Go. The Kaya toast simply tasted sweet with no distinct pandan flavor so that was disappointing as well.
I have been waiting to try Ipoh Kopitiam in Alhambra for the longest time! I put off coming for a while because I heard how insanely busy it gets with long lines, but finding out they offer a Yelp waitlist made all the difference. Joining the waitlist online once you are close by saves so much time and makes the entire experience so much smoother. If you are coming here for the first time, there are three absolute must-order items. The Curry Laksa is spectacular, featuring a rich, aromatic curry broth that is packed with authentic spice and flavor, along with a wonderful variety of ingredients loaded right into the bowl with the noodles. Their Hainan Chicken is hands down the best I have ever tasted! Even though the portion size is on the smaller side, the quality more than makes up for it. The meat is ridiculously soft, tender, and juicy, and the savory sauce served alongside it is top-notch. Finally, the Roti Canai is an absolute essential that you simply cannot skip. It comes out piping hot, with a flatbread that is perfectly crispy and flaky on the outside, soft on the inside, and paired with a rich curry dipping sauce. Everything here tastes amazingly authentic, and the incredible flavors truly transport you straight to Malaysia. I am so glad I finally made it out here, and I will definitely be back soon!
This place has been on my wishlist for quite some time, and I was so excited to finally try it out with a friend recently. I used to always drive by and see a gigantic crowd waiting outside, so when we came on a Tuesday for lunch, I made sure to add myself to the Yelp waitlist while I was driving over. Once I arrived, it was only about a 15-minute wait, which wasn't bad at all. Between the two of us, we tried a few different items: - Roti Canai (5/5): The curry sauce was delectable, and the roti itself was so light, airy, and flaky. It was the perfect appetizer to get our meal started. - Nasi Lemak with Curry Beef (5/5): The beef was incredibly tender and the curry sauce was delicious. Just a warning: that little dollop of chili paste on the side is pretty spicy. You've been warned! It also comes plated with a sliced egg, sliced cucumbers, and rice. - Char Kway Teow (4/5): Packed with tons of bean sprouts, lap cheong sausage, and fish cake. The noodles were super light, tender, and cooked perfectly. - Kaya Toast (4/5): This was good, but I didn't realize that the egg dip was a separate item. They told us it would've taken another 10 minutes to make, so we just ate the toast by itself this time around. Still good and loved the butter and jam sandwiched inside of it. I already know I need to make a trip back here because literally all the tables around us were ordering the Hainan chicken. I love Hainan chicken, so that is a total must for next time. I also want to make sure I get the proper Kaya toast experience with the egg dip. Overall, I loved everything we had and will definitely be back!
Please check in once you get there even if you checked in on yelp. It stated our wait time would be 25 minutes, but we were seated within 15 minutes We went before 4:45 pm so it's a smaller menu and it bit cheaper than dinner but it had all the delicious items we wanted to try. Tea sets come with a free hot coffee or milk tea, extra charge to make it iced. Started with curry fish balls as an appetizer next time I will try the salt and pepper wings. I everything that I tried was delicious, the curry, the Kaya (coconut) toast with butter, the hokkien prawn soup was so flavorful and even the side of shrimp paste went so well with my nasi lemak with chicken curry. I wish I would've asked for a little bit more shrimp paste. I'm not sure if that would've been an extra charge, but I saw others request requesting more. I will return and try other dishes. Everything was so fresh and flavorful.
Ipoh Kopitiam was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, meaning they offer high-quality food at moderate prices. We walked in around 10:30 am and were adamantly told they only sell breakfast until 10:45 and and absolutely will not take any lunch orders until 11 am. So, in other words, they will not give you any water or service during those fifteen minutes. I'm not sure if it's a shift change or what, but it was a horrible first impression. They insisted we come in and order breakfast and then order lunch as well. I found that extremely odd as I didn't want to order two meals. And the place wasn't very busy at that time. So we took a stroll around the block and came back around 10:52. They did allow us to sit down, but made sure to only give us the lunch menu. They did offer some water at least. * R3 Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry $15.95 * T2 Toast with Homemade Kaya & Butter $5.25 * Extra Ginger Sauce for Hainan Chicken 25¢ * R1 Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice $15.95 * N3 Singapore Curry Laksa Noodle Soup $15.95 I guess their lunch menu is where they really shine as the establishment really began to fill up and was still going strong when we left despite it being a Tuesday. The food was tasty overall and we enjoyed it. But the initial service really put me off and it's not as if their service improved much more afterwards. Perhaps they are so busy with their regular menu, but morning diners wish to order their more popular dishes that are only available after breakfast. So they need to be rude about setting the expectations upfront when you walk in.
Ipoh Kopitian gives hole-in-the-wall vibes even though it is so highly rated and loved. I came here on a Saturday for lunch, joined the waitlist online and waited around 30 minutes after being 14th on the waitlist. There is indoor and outdoor seating available, dog friendly outdoors! There is a parking lot behind the restaurant you can enter from the Main Street. Here's my thoughts on the dishes I ordered: 1. Toast w/ Kaya and Butter: although this was highly recommended, I wouldn't order this again. It's affordable, but was nothing special and had a stick of butter wedged between the loaves. Tasty because of all the butter but just expect this if you want to order it! 2. Roti Canai w/ Chicken Curry: loved this!!!! The curry had so much flavor and the roti was thin and crispy. The leftover curry was perfect with the rice from the Hainan chicken. 3. Hainan Chicken: the chicken melts in your mouth!! So good!! 4. Singaporean Laksa: took no pictures because I couldn't wait to eat this one. Flavorful broth and a generous amount of noodles. Came with shrimp, egg, and fish cakes. Loved this!!
Came here to celebrate a birthday, it was my first time having Malaysian food and was pleasantly impressed by the amazing flavors! Dry Wanton Mee w/ Curry Chicken (9/10) - the noodles were flavorful and chicken was tender Roti canai w/chicken curry (9/10) - delicious and flavorful appetizer, it was my first time having roti and the texture was soft and slightly chewy Hainan chicken rice (10/10) - packed with flavor from all the sauces, rice was fragrant, and chicken was tender Char Kway Teow (10/10) - this was my favorite, and portion was great! Had amazing wok hei flavor and great ingredients!
I've never really had Malaysian food before, so we got in line for Ipoh and were super glad we did! Being on the Michelin Gourmand is no joke, and each dish had a wealth of decadence, especially their Kaya Toast (get it with butter!$ We also got their stir fry flat noodles in gravy, which is dine-in only, and it's a combination of Vietnamese chao, egg drop soup and Thai Pad See Ew - overall, extremely delicious and something that I've truly never had in such a combination. Must try! The Roti with Chicken Curry was also good - definitely pairs well together. Spacious indoors and outdoors, and make sure you get in early! There's always a line during the weekend :)
We were here for lunch on a Sunday. We got there around 11:30am and there was a long line of customers already. We immediately put ourselves on their online wait-list as we looked for parking. It was a 40 min wait already. We found parking easily behind the building and sat in our car until we had a notification text to come check in with the hostess. We checked in and was told to wait outside until called. We waited for about 10 minutes before we were seated. Highly recommend that you use the online wait-list as your driving there! We were a party of two and was seated at a small table inside. It was busy but service was quick. We ordered the roti canai as our appetizer. It came out very hot so be careful. The roti was so fluffy and chewy. Yum! And the curry dip was delicious. We also ordered their two specials, the Singapore laksa curry noodle soup and the Singapore style Hainan chicken entree. Between the two, I prefer the laksa curry noodle soup. It was a very flavorful soup with a coconutty curry filled with two large shrimps, fried tofus, delicate sliced pork bolognas, and two soft boiled eggs halves. The Hainan chicken was nothing special from other restaurants. The rice was sorta dry. But it was still good with the three different sauces that were served with the dish.

I have gone here multiple times and completely forgot to do a review! Excellent service, excellent dishes! Inside is cozy but beware the lines! Get there before opening or past peak times! The must try is definitely the roti canai. So fresh. The dipping sauce for it is between sweet and bitter, an amazing flavor I still cant get out of my head! The Hainan chicken? Fire! But portion wasn't enough for me personally, next we got the Kaya toast, another must! One day I came for brunch and had ramen spam and egg soup! Another dish I recommend is their dry wonton mee. Underneath those dry noodles was a crunchy cluster for what seemed like chicarron in a pool of sauce at the bottom. Fantastic! Mixing it coated the noodles with even more flavor! Never eaten at a Malaysian spot before, but this one definitely stands out! Must try! read more

I was really excited to try this place out since I always see a crowd outside and my best friend recommended this place to me. I came on a Friday evening and placed my name on the waitlist at around 5PM. I waited around 30 minutes before being sat. Their menu is filled with fan favorites like curry roti, hainan chicken, noodle soup, and a pineapple bun. My boyfriend and I wanted to try a variety of items so we opted for a chicken rice plate, hainan chicken, roti, & chicken wings. Every item except for the chicken wings came out in 5 minutes, which I appreciated since I was hungry. The Hainan chicken portion is quite small, which I didn't mind since I wasn't too hungry and there were other appetizers to pick at. I was quite disappointed with my first bite since the chicken and the rice lacked flavor. Usually the rice is seasoned and cooked with chicken broth and fat but I couldn't taste any of that here. The roti was good but nothing super special. I enjoyed my boyfriend's plate since the chicken had more flavor but it wasn't that much better than the Hainan chicken. The chicken wings were made to order so when we got them, they were piping hot! It looked really delicious but upon taking the first bite, more than half of it was breading. The breading did not have enough seasoning too. It was extremely oily as well. Overall, I'm glad I was able to give this restaurant a try. However, I don't think I will be coming back. read more
If you're looking for incredible Malaysian food in Monterey Park, this place absolutely lives up to the hype. Michelin Bib Gourmand-rated four years in a row, and once you visit, it's easy to see why. There's usually a line wrapped out the door--but trust me, it's worth the wait. The space itself is modern and comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor seating that makes it a great spot to hang out and enjoy a meal. The food is packed with bold flavors and just the right amount of spice--every dish feels thoughtfully made. You have to try the Malaysian coffee (kopi)--it's literally in the name, and it does not disappoint. Rich, smooth, and the perfect complement to the meal. My personal favorites are the Hainan chicken and the roti with chicken curry--both are absolute standouts. Honestly though, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Expect a crowd, bring your appetite, reasonably priced, and get ready for some seriously satisfying food. read more

Ipoh Kopitiam was a fantastic first visit, and we'll definitely be back. The service was warm and attentive, with the staff making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The restaurant also has a cozy, inviting ambiance that makes it a great spot to sit back and enjoy a leisurely meal. We came during Tea Time without realizing the menu was limited, but we still had plenty of delicious options to choose from. The Hainan chicken was a classic, well-executed version of the dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and everything from the rice to the sauces was done as well as you could hope for. The clay pot rice took about 25 minutes to prepare, but it was absolutely worth the wait. The combination of chicken and Chinese sausage gave it that comforting, home-cooked flavor, and the crispy rice at the bottom made every bite even better. We also ordered the roti with chicken curry, and the portion of curry was incredibly generous for the price. The curry was rich, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the warm, fluffy roti. One thing that really stood out was that they offer free refills on all of their drinks--including the lemonade--which is a nice touch that's becoming harder to find. Even with the limited Tea Time menu, we left impressed. Next time we'll make sure to come back during regular hours so we can explore the full menu. read more
Can't say enough good things about this place. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. 1000/10. We checked in on waitlist and waited about 40 min for a table of 7. As soon as we were sat, greeted, our order was taken. Food flew out. Every single thing from the laksa, hainan chicken, chicken wings, stir fried flat noodle, roti canai, and kaya butter toast. We went here for dinner and the food was so yummy! I liked the rice from the Singapore Style Hainan Chicken it reminded me of one of my grandma's dishes even though it could not fully resemble it IT WAS SO YUMMY. Service was surprisingly efficient there is enough staff and they are EVERYWHERE so whenever you need anything they are easy to reach. While it is a place that is usually packed and hectic I do understand the chaos and stress from the waiter/waitress sometimes they can seem a bit rude when you ask questions. Nonetheless, they deliver the food pretty fast, and the restaurant itself also smells yummy too I don't know maybe we were starving. I did had to get used to the crowd noise plus some background music which at the begging I thought it was a bit loud either way 10/10. read more
You will be waiting at least 45 minutes if you want to eat here on a weekend evening. BUT it's worth it! I was really looking forward to trying their curry laksa. I have only tried Uncle Fung's laksa soup and fell in love with the curry coconut flavors. I thought Ipoh's Singaporean curry laksa was just as good, but definitely a lot spicier. I'm glad I had their roti to balance out the spice - super yummy and buttery. I can handle mild-medium spice but yeah, this was a little hard on my tummy lol. The pineapple bun was a nice way to finish the meal. Pretty sweet and very soft. I genuinely loved every aspect of this visit. I would just recommend adding your name to the waitlist on Yelp as soon as possible because this place is popping on the weekends. read more
As my cousin pulled out her parking garage, I hurried to Ipoh Kopitiam's Yelp waitlist to put our party of 2 down. Even then, we were the 52nd on the list this last Sunday afternoon. We got to the restaurant 20 minutes later and walked around the area before we decided to wait outside the restaurant. By then, we were #37 on the list, but I noticed people going up to the hostess to check-in. I decided to check in with our hostess as well, but she then just offered us an empty table inside. I guess it's not really a waitlist, but a put your name down and check-in ASAP to actually be on the waitlist? Service here is pretty fast since they definitely want people in and out ASAP. Our order went in within a few minutes of sitting down and the food came out quickly after. T2. TOAST WITH KAYA AND BUTTER - 5.25 The bread was very light toasted with most of the texture still being "room temp." I enjoyed the kaya (very coconut-y) and butter combination, but there was so much of the butter that I took off more than half of it. A very dense appetizer. R3. NASI LEMAK WITH CHICKEN CURRY - 15.95 I love nasi lemak usually, but this one was a bit underwhelming. The chicken curry was just OK, and I was hoping there would be more garnish variety (other than peanuts and cucumbers). The anchoy sambal was my favorite along with the subtle coconut-flavored rice which was fragrant. R1. SINGAPORE STYLE HAINAN CHICKEN RICE - 15.95 The Hainanese chicken rice was great, with buttery smooth chicken, chicken broth-flavored rice, and variety of sauces. I liked the sweet soy-based sauce the most with the chicken and rice! Overall, this is a must at Ipoh Kopitiam, and we both enjoyed greatly. Great to have a Malaysian restaurant cafe in the area. The staff also speaks Cantonese here, so it was easy for us to interact with them. read more
This is my favorite Malaysian restaurant in the SGV area! I've been coming here since they first opened. Parking is easy since they have a lot in the back with underground parking. There's usually a line, though, and the wait can be up to an hour, so plan accordingly. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating, but it's not very big, so be ready to get cozy with your neighbors. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorites are the kaya toast, nasi lemak, char kway teow, and laksa noodle soup. Their Malaysian milk tea is authentic, though a little too sweet for me. Service is adequate since they're usually quite busy. If you're looking for authentic Malaysian food, this is definitely worth a visit. read more

As fellow Malaysians, we have one non-negotiable rule when traveling abroad: hunt down Malaysian food. Ask any Malaysian, take everything else away from us, our luggage, our sanity, maybe even our sense of direction, but never our cuisine. On our pilgrimage to the "happiest place on Earth" (that's mostly for the kids and maybe a few adults pretending to be kids), we decided to dodge the chaos of downtown LA and sneak through the northern neighborhoods, the ones dotted with authentic Chinese and Malaysian spots. While my wife's finger performed an Olympic-level scroll across Yelp, something in my peripheral vision screamed, "STOP RIGHT THERE!" A picture of fluffy rice, glistening rendang, and fiery sambal practically jumped off the screen as I navigated from I-5 to I-210. Decision made. That's where we were going after a brutal seven-hour drive. Now, let's talk LA traffic, a beast of its own. I bow to every "Angeleno" for surviving that daily gladiator arena with a calm nod. But with two hangry kids in the backseat, our car briefly transformed into a cautious yet determined GTO chase scene. Don't worry I didn't break any laws, too much. Miraculously, we arrived right in the golden hour, just before the dinner rush swallowed the place whole. We sat down, and bam! The aroma hit harder than Spider-Man swinging into Times Square. Malaysian flavors coursed through our veins, resurrecting the dormant "food beast" inside us. Hunger levels: expert mode activated. The menu? Simple but perfect. No endless scrolling or dishes that make you question the chef's sanity. We dove in with: - Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang (my personal holy grail) - Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken - Silky Egg and Shrimp Noodle Wat Tan Hor - Wonton Noodle with Curry Chicken Each dish hit the flavors squarely, no pretension, just comfort, spice, and aroma that makes your taste buds do the cha cha. We washed it all down with caffeine-powered iced coffee and the legendary iced Yin Yong (coffee plus milk tea plus condensed milk equals liquid happiness). We will definitely return, but with the options here in SGV, there are still plenty more to try. I noticed the Hainanese Chicken Rice was a hot pick among diners. I resisted. I wanted something elusive, something you can't easily get in the Bay Area, where Malaysian restaurants are slowly vanishing like endangered species. Every visit feels like a rescue mission for our heritage cuisine, and this spot? A full-on culinary victory. In short, if you find yourself anywhere near this stretch of LA, don't just drive past. Staff were friendly and efficient. The tables were clean and the food was delicious! We enjoyed the roti, the spicy dipping soup sauce was my favorite. The salt and pepper chicken wings were good too. The Singaporean noodle soup was comforting and the stir fry beef noodles were really good too. The hot Milo and Malaysian milk tea reminded me of a Hong Kong cafe. read more
This Malaysian spot in the San Gabriel Valley is super popular for a reason. Every time we visit, we end up ordering a ton because everything is just that good. If you haven't tried it yet, it's definitely a must! The prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the service is impressively fast. That said, it does get really busy, so be prepared to wait, especially during peak hours. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge. There is underground parking, but it still fills up quickly. Try to go during off-peak hours to avoid long waits. Highly recommend! read more

I was craving some Malaysian/Singaporean food, so I picked this spot for dinner, it definitely reminded me of my time in Singapore. They have a large menu of dishes and everything looked so good, so it was hard to choose because I wanted to try everything. What I ended up trying: Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry 3.5/5 - The Chicken curry was savory and flavorful. I enjoyed the sambal as well for that spicy kick. The rice, eggs, cucumbers, and beans didn't add too much to the dish though. Roti Canai with Chicken Curry and Beef Rendang 4.5/5 - this was really good, the roti canal was perfectly made! I would get this to share instead of the Nasi Lemak next time. Kaya Toast 3.5/5 - tasty and full of kaya of butter flavors, but the portion is quite small, so I probably wouldn't order it again. Fried Chicken Wings 3/5 - this takes longer to cook, so you'll likely get it later than the other food items. It was okay, but nothing special, I would skip this. Hainan Chicken Rice 5/5 - okay, I only tried a small bite of the rice from my friend's plate, but the flavors were absolutely divine. Next time, I'll come for lunch since I think Kopi would go really well with the meal and will absolutely have to order the Hainan Chicken Rice. read more
Not too sure of this one. I came here unaware that lunch menu starts at 11am and breakfast menu was so different so we were underwhelmed. We didn't get to try all the popular dishes since by the time lunch was starting we were full. Breakfast menu is alright, very simple stuff like noodles, porridge, and a few other dishes but definitely come for lunch. Honestly, I think the dishes are overpriced for what it is for breakfast, porridge was so mushy and watery. The stir fry noodles were plain and lacked flavor. Select drinks are included with breakfast combos but if you get cold lemon tea then there's $1.50 extra, not sure why..must be some ice inflation. I recommend coming like 10:45am to join their waitlist. There's outdoor and indoor seating but very limited hence the long line. Beware extremely limited parking, everything seems to be reserved for the clinic. read more

Normally there is a huge line every time I drive past, but this time I got lucky! I came during their afternoon tea menu, but was still able to get their Hainan Chicken which I heard is what they are known for. The service was quick and the food tasted great! I have to compare it to Savoy Kitchen which is the other famous Hainan Chicken place, I would say you can taste the quality difference! Definitely worth trying out at least once! read more

*** Michelin Bib Gourmand *** Ipoh Kopitiam is a Malaysian restaurant located in Alhambra by the 10 freeway. We were in the area craving some good food, so decided to check this place out after seeing it on the Michelin app. We arrived around 4:35pm, which was perfect because the server informed us that they start their dinner menu at 4:45pm. To eat, the four of us split the Toast with Homemade Kaya & Butter, Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry, Char Kway Teow (stir fried flat noodles), and Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice. The food came out surprisingly fast. While each dish was delicious, my favorite was probably the Char Kway Teow. If looking for a cool restaurant to try some great Malaysian food at, Ipoh Kopitiam is an excellent option. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, delicious food, and reasonable prices. I've eaten here several times and despite the often long lines I keep coming back. The food is really good and service is fast. I like the variety on the menu. The only downside for me are the lines to get a table. When I went after 1pm on Saturday, there were more than 20 parties ahead of us! read more
Good spot for Malaysian food but very popular! It gets crowded on the weekend, so I highly recommend adding yourself to the waitlist on Yelp before coming. I set a reminder on Yelp, and it sent me an alert on my way over when it was time to add myself to the waitlist. For my party of 3 to eat at 11:30 am, it recommended to add ourselves to the Yelp waitlist around 10:45. We checked in around 11:35 and were seated a couple minutes later, so it was pretty accurate. I'm really glad we did this, as there were a ton of people waiting outside the restaurant and I'm pretty sure the wait was 1+ hour. Parking is easy to find either in the plaza or in the underground garage. The menu is straightforward with two pages. FYI I didn't see much on the menu in terms of vegetarian options. We shared a couple of dishes: Kaya toast with butter ($5.25) - my favorite dish, it had a really nice coconut flavor and the butter was super soft Roti canai with chicken curry ($10.95) - disappointed by the flavor of the regular dip, and the chicken curry dip was a bit spicy for me even though I liked the flavor of that more Singapore curry laksa ($15.95) - broth was very flavorful and luckily not too spicy. I loved the coconut flavor in the broth and the soft chewy noodles Hainan chicken rice ($15.95) - this is one of their signature dishes. I really liked the rice cooked with chicken fat, and the chicken itself tasted amazing especially with the crack ginger sauce on the side, but portions were a bit too small imo Dry wonton mee with chicken curry ($15.95) - I only tried a couple bites of this. The wonton noodles have a chew to them, and it's personal preference if you like them or not (I don't). The chicken curry is the same as the one that came with the roti canai so it was a bit spicy for me. However, I liked the bowl of wontons on the side. read more

By the time we finished our delightful dinner, a cheerful line of eager diners had formed outside, ready to enjoy the same experience. The Chicken Rice was absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. While I found the Bak Kut Teh (Herbal Soup) to be a bit disappointing, it didn't overshadow the overall joy of our meal. Everything else we ordered was simply delightful! I LOVE IPOH KOPITIAM! Wait time is always so long though, but it's worth it imo. This food reminds me of home (Indonesia) especially the char kwe tiaw and the rendang. Came to Ipoh Kopitiam in Alhambra last Friday with my parents and it turned out to be such a comforting meal. We ordered the Laksa curry, Singaporean style Hainanese chicken rice, and the Char Kway Teow. All three dishes were solid, but the one that really stood out was the Hainanese chicken rice. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the rice was packed with flavor on its own. Once you add the sauces, everything just comes together perfectly. That was easily the most memorable dish of the night. Our second favorite was the Char Kway Teow. The flat noodles had great texture with a nice smoky wok flavor. It was savory, slightly sweet, and super satisfying. The Laksa curry was rich and comforting with a good balance of spice and coconut. Ambiance is your typical modern cafe and the noise level was moderate, so we could still talk comfortably. Service was a bit on the slower side, but that's pretty standard for the 626 so we weren't surprised. If you want to save some time, you can join the Yelp waitlist ahead of time which definitely helps minimize the wait. Parking can be difficult during lunch since the lot is small and shared with other businesses. Street parking is available, but you might have to walk a little. I can see why Ipoh Kopitiam has earned a spot on the Michelin Guide for four consecutive years. My favorite dishes are the Hainanese chicken rice, roti with curry, and the kaya butter toast. The chicken is incredibly tender, and the rice is packed with flavor. The kaya butter toast is simple yet incredibly satisfying, especially when you get a bite with the thin slices of butter. The roti is perfectly chewy and pairs so well with the rich, flavorful curry. Despite the long wait to get seated, the food comes out surprisingly fast. You can also add your name to the waitlist in advance to help reduce the wait time. read more

We ordered the nasi lemak with chicken curry, the Singapore style hainan chicken and the Kaya butter toast. The hainan chicken was very flavorful and I would say it's a must order. The nasi lemak was just ok. The curry could've used more seasonings. The Kaya butter toast was also delicious. It's a bit on the sweeter end but if you order it with a slab of butter it balances out the sweetness. Service was excellent. We were seated quickly and the servers there work quickly. This place reminds me of another Hong Kong cafe. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I'm sure this place gets packed on the weekends so I would recommend putting your name down on the Yelp waitlist. There is some parking underground. I give it a 4 out of 5 because it's good, but it wasn't mind blowing. Not really worth the hype. read more
This place brought me back to my awesome time in Singapore. I did not have much expectations for this place despite the long wait times and michelin recommendation signs on the door. Having had grown up in the area and eating chicken rice at another famous local place and in Singapore Hawker centers, this place was on par but did not stand out to me as better than those places. It was very good still, especially with tge bean sprouts and hot sauce. The star for me was the laksa dish. It was full of flavor. I didnt like that I had to peel the shrimp a little so I took 1 star off fir that. But the flavor was on point. The roti and curry was also very good. Not sure what the okra was for though. Overall, id come again but I dont think I'd wait more than 15 minutes for this place. The service was amazing though. They went above and beyond and couldn't have asked for better attention to our needs. read more

Totally living the high expectation from all the stellar reviews and the extremely long waiting line. Super recommended to join the virtual waitlist 60-90 minutes from your planned dining time. Let me learn from my experience and don't repeat my mistake! My friends and I waited for good one hour before able to be seated. Yeah the venue was that busy on weekend lunch time. No wonder, price was decent for the huge portion and menu selection was rich; obviously Malaysian-themed and the vibes too felt like transport you somewhere else. We got their crowd's favorites like Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, and Hainanese Rice. Different variations there, yet we loved everything as they're flavorful on their own way and all the meats were juicy and tender. The curry and rendang were so rich in spice, the sauces were thick and flawlessly umami! The HK bun was decent, wouldn't call it my fave in town as I tried better one elsewhere, yet good enough if you're craving for one. Their Teh Tarik delivered very bold and slightly bitter tea flavor so would suit you best if you fancied your tea with strong kick. read more

We drove an hour to try this spot at the recommendation from a cousin. I used the yelp waitlist. It was an hour and a half wait time when we were getting ready to leave so I added our name to the list. 37 people in front of us. By the time we arrived only 10 people ahead of us. I had requested inside seating but after waiting for another 20 mins after arriving I decided to sit in the out door covered area. They had heaters so it was fine. It was warm that day cool at night. We had rendang, roti, chicken wings, laksa soup, char kway, hainan chicken and one more dish. Everything was delicious, I was a fan of the beef rendang. read more

They have plenty of parking in the back and also underground. I got seated right away when I arrived at 5pm on Friday. Ordered their classic Char Kway Teow and Roti Canai with chicken curry.
