I've been meaning to try this place out for a while now but there always seemed to be a long line outside. So it's nice to finally get a chance to dine in. I came on a week day a little before the lunch rush and didn't have to wait long. PARKING: There is a small parking lot in the back (mostly marked for the clinic) with additional spots in their underground garage. SEATING: It's a medium size place which is ideal for parties of 1-6 people. It's a hybrid booth and chair situation. FOOD: The Roti Canai appetizer was yummy and the curry dip was pretty mild for those who can't handle spice. We ordered the soft-boiled organic pastured egg (2 per order) and it came in this container where we were told to wait for the water to drain. Sadly, I would describe the egg as barely boiled since both the yolk and egg white had not solidified. I prefer my eggs a little more cooked so I passed on it. The salt & pepper chicken wings were solid. Loved the crispy skin and there was plenty of meat. The Dry Wonton Mee with curry chicken was packed with a lot of flavor. It also had a mild kick to it. The wonton was served in a smaller bowl with soup. Their Hainan Chicken which was okay. It came with three dipping sauces and some sliced cucumbers. Overall, I thought the flavor was good. Plates were a decent size and great for sharing. If you are craving Malaysian/Singaporean food, this place will scratch that itch. I do plan on coming back to try their other dishes.
We had just visited Malaysia and were missing the food there. We decide to go to Ipoh Kopitiam during our 48hr SoCal trip. The food was amazing and the pricing was extremely reasonable. We LOVED the roti, it was made in a way where the bottom was more dense and soft and chewy. The Hainan Chicken Rice was tender and made perfectly. The only thing is that the ginger sauce was a little lacking in flavor. We sat outside but it wasn't too noisy at all. It was a little dim but each table has a mini lamp. Service was friendly and quick. We loved that there is parking on site. Definitely put yourself on the waitlist on Yelp to prevent a long wait.
Ordered food togo and it took about 17-18 minutes for it to be done. It was during dinner so it was busy. The chicken wing was crispy and juicy. Not too salty either You cant really go wrong with the hainan chicnese since its their specialty but the rice was a bit too dry for me. I had to drown it in the soy sauce they provided. The red sauce was actually spicy today. Might have changed their recipe since it did look like it had more oil that usual.
Staff were friendly and efficient. The tables were clean and the food was delicious! We enjoyed the roti, the spicy dipping soup sauce was my favorite. The salt and pepper chicken wings were good too. The Singaporean noodle soup was comforting and the stir fry beef noodles were really good too. The hot Milo and Malaysian milk tea reminded me of a Hong Kong cafe.
I LOVE IPOH KOPITIAM! Wait time is always so long though, but it's worth it imo. This food reminds me of home (Indonesia) especially the char kwe tiaw and the rendang. The have inside and outdoor seatings. I always come back for the kwe tiaw, it's SOOO GOOOOD. Every other menu that we tried was also good, NOTHING ever disappoint. I love taking all my friends/family here.
Came here for an early dinner. Heard this place is very good and the wait can be long if you come later. Glad we came here at 5pm. You can find parking in the back of the restaurant and there also an underground parking. We parked in the underground parking and took the elevator up to the street level. The restaurant is nice and clean. Plenty of tables. They also have outdoor seatings. They have two sets of menus depending on the time of day. One set of menu is their Lunch/Dinner Menu. The other Menu is their Tea Time Menu, which is from 3:00pm - 4:45pm. We got seated right away since we came at 5pm. The staffs were nice and welcoming. We ordered the A1 - Roti Canai for Appertizer. For the Main Dishes, we got the R1 - Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice and the R4 - Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef. Foods came out so quickly. We loved the Roti Canai, it was so good. The Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice was not bad at all. It was tasty. As for the Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef, wow, it was so good! Loved every bites. I finished the whole thing. It was that good! Loved it! Would definitely come back here again in the future.
We waited 45 min -1 hour on a Friday. A1 Roti Canai $9.50 is really good and shareable. The pancake is fluffy and light and combined with the sauce is even better. N3 Singapore Curry Laksa Noodle Soup $16.95 is really good and highly recommended. It's a big portion and the flavor is delicious. It has a slight sour taste to it. I definitely regretted not ordering this one. But I got to try a little of my friends. R4 Nasi Lemak with Rendang Curry Beef $17.95 is good but I wanted a more soupy dish. The meat and sauce is good. Meat is well seasoned and not dry. Parking is tight but the underground has bigger spaces.
If you're craving legit Malaysian comfort food in the SGV, Ipoh Kopitiam in Alhambra definitely delivers!! This spot is always busy (expect a wait), but it makes sense once you taste the food. They really lean into traditional Ipoh-style flavors, and you can tell they care about authenticity. My personal favorites were the Milo (so rich and nostalgic) and the kaya toast. It was crispy, buttery, and perfectly sweet. Super simple but so satisfying. A lot of people rave about the wings and the Hainanese chicken rice too, and honestly, they live up to the hype. Overall: worth it for the flavors alone. I'll definitely be back.
Been wanting to try this spot and decided to try with my roommate! I love that they have yelp waitlist so I don't have to wait outside. The store itself is small but they are very fast. I personally really liked their appetizers more than their entree but I want to try the curry noodles next time! I would say the price is cheaper compared to the quality that you get. Would come back!
I can see why Ipoh Kopitiam has earned a spot on the Michelin Guide for four consecutive years. My favorite dishes are the Hainanese chicken rice, roti with curry, and the kaya butter toast. The chicken is incredibly tender, and the rice is packed with flavor. The kaya butter toast is simple yet incredibly satisfying, especially when you get a bite with the thin slices of butter. The roti is perfectly chewy and pairs so well with the rich, flavorful curry. Despite the long wait to get seated, the food comes out surprisingly fast. You can also add your name to the waitlist in advance to help reduce the wait time.
This place never disappoints--unless you enjoy being sad, in which case, go elsewhere. I've been here more times than I've checked my phone today, and we've got our all-star lineup on lock: Roti Canai, Hainan Chicken, Kaya toast... You know, the usual suspects. But today, plot twist--we discovered a new legend: Stir fried flat noodle with gravy sauce. Move over, old faves. Pro tip, and I mean this with love: put your name on the Yelp waitlist before you leave the house. Unless you enjoy staring at a line so long it makes the airport security queue look efficient. Seriously, pack a snack for the wait. Or just, you know, Yelp ahead like a civilized hangry human. *** Michelin Bib Gourmand *** Ipoh Kopitiam is a Malaysian restaurant located in Alhambra by the 10 freeway. We were in the area craving some good food, so decided to check this place out after seeing it on the Michelin app. We arrived around 4:35pm, which was perfect because the server informed us that they start their dinner menu at 4:45pm. To eat, the four of us split the Toast with Homemade Kaya & Butter, Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry, Char Kway Teow (stir fried flat noodles), and Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice. The food came out surprisingly fast. While each dish was delicious, my favorite was probably the Char Kway Teow. If looking for a cool restaurant to try some great Malaysian food at, Ipoh Kopitiam is an excellent option. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, delicious food, and reasonable prices. I hope to come back soon to try more of their menu items. It's a popular spot, so I'd recommend either showing up early or trying to make a reservation if they accept them. read more
Picked up a Hainan chicken rice and beef with stir fried noodle Togo for dinner. Took about 20 mins for my order. They were packed with people waiting for a table all the time. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. Price point is reasonable too. $16 each. Friendly service. read more

We drove an hour to try this spot at the recommendation from a cousin. I used the yelp waitlist. It was an hour and a half wait time when we were getting ready to leave so I added our name to the list. 37 people in front of us. By the time we arrived only 10 people ahead of us. I had requested inside seating but after waiting for another 20 mins after arriving I decided to sit in the out door covered area. They had heaters so it was fine. It was warm that day cool at night. We had rendang, roti, chicken wings, laksa soup, char kway, hainan chicken and one more dish. Everything was delicious, I was a fan of the beef rendang. read more
This place is so popular and my friend and I were so lucky we didn't have to wait long for our table. I was craving chicken rice and she suggested this restaurant. It didn't disappoint Restaurant decor is your typical Asian restaurant, not over the top and clean. We got our orders right away. My dish was so delish! I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time but never had a chance to until today. I added myself to the Yelp waitlist before coming so wait wasn't too bad... but it was still around a 40 minute wait. Weird thing was they didn't call my name for the longest time even though they said they were setting up the table and when I went to follow up, they said our table was ready. I wonder how long I would've continued waiting if I didn't follow up... We ordered the Singaporean style hainan chicken, roti canai, nasi lemak with chicken curry, beef rendang, and the char kway teow. Everything tasted really good and was very flavorful. My favorites were the hainan chicken and roti canai. I will definitely come back again in the future but probably not during busy hours. read more

Firstly, breakfast does not have laksa noodles, fried kway teow and roti canai. They did have nice set options which allows you to try a variety of Malaysian specialties. The sets provide a choice of salty carb, protein, sweet carb and drink. We ordered 3 sets for 3 adults and shared everything which allowed all of us to try many items. I would return again just for this reason. It's a way to get a variety of comfort food and to share them with friends who are interested. For the salty carb, we had Nasi lemak, curry noodles and sticky chicken rice. For me the standout was the sambal in the Nasi lemak which was sweet with great anchovy flavor. The rice could have been more flavorful, the coconut milk/cream did not really stand out. The curry noodles and sticky rice were good as well, you can find these at Thai restaurants and dim sum places respectively. For the protein, we choose curry fishball, crispy tofu skin fishcake and spam. The crispy tofu skin was a hit especially soaked in a bit of curry as you eat. Note these proteins are fairly low in total protein, none of the set meals are high protein, they are high carb. For the sweet carb, we had pandan chiffon cake, pineapple bun (bolo bau) and toasted bread with Kaya. The last item did not taste as good without butter, otherwise all the desserts were great. I wished we had eaten them immediately upon serving as they taste better warm, and with dips of the coffee. As for the drinks, the coffee was not too sweet, which I appreciated. It did not come across as distinctively Malaysian, might have been a blend with Vietnamese coffee as it was very dark. I'm not sure that many would know the difference. Overall I was super happy to dine and would return again. But I would likely want to try the non-breakfast menu. read more

Everything I've tried so far is very good. I wasn't aware that they only served items off their breakfast menu until 10:45 a.m. so I ordered their pork and preserved egg congee with Malaysian fried rice noodles and an unsweetened hot milk tea. They do not skimp on the preserved eggs, which I was estatic about. I wasn't about to leave my first time at Ipoh without trying something Malaysian or Singaporean off their lunch menu so I waited until I was allowed to order my takeaway meal. I settled on the Malaysian style Bakuteh and boy was I happy I did! It was so hearty and delicious and it incorporated all of the herbally/medicinal elements I've been exposed to as a child from my mother's homecooking. This soup is an acquired taste since there is a bitterness to it, but you can easily become addicted to this if given the opportunity. I love the chicken fat rice that it came with and I can't wait to try all the other dishes off their menu. read more
Not much needs to be said about Ipoh Kopitiam because simply, it's one of the best Malaysian food restaurants in the area. The standout dish is the Hainan chicken rice. The sauce that they serve the chicken with is so good, and the chicken itself is always so flavorful. We also really enjoyed the roti with curry sauce. We have been here several times, and the quality here is always consistent. The only real con is the often long lines, but it is so worth it! read more
We've eaten here a handful of times already, mostly as take out because there is always a line out the door. We finally dined-in recently and managed to snap some photos of the dishes. Everything is delicious here, can't go wrong with the curry chicken, beef rendang, or Hainanese chicken rice. We came before 11am and they were only serving breakfast menu so we waited till after and ordered the lunch menu as well. The taste is very reminiscent of what we ate in Singapore, hence the constant line out the door. Don't sleep on the roti canai, very flavorful and addicting! read more

We ordered the nasi lemak with chicken curry, the Singapore style hainan chicken and the Kaya butter toast. The hainan chicken was very flavorful and I would say it's a must order. The nasi lemak was just ok. The curry could've used more seasonings. The Kaya butter toast was also delicious. It's a bit on the sweeter end but if you order it with a slab of butter it balances out the sweetness. Service was excellent. We were seated quickly and the servers there work quickly. This place reminds me of another Hong Kong cafe. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I'm sure this place gets packed on the weekends so I would recommend putting your name down on the Yelp waitlist. There is some parking underground. I give it a 4 out of 5 because it's good, but it wasn't mind blowing. Not really worth the hype. read more
Delicious food all around. The wait can get pretty long so put your name down. We were on the waitlist for an hour, but ended up waiting for almost 2 hours because the table set to accommodate us did not leave for another hour after they were finished with their meal. Not the fault of the staff, but I had wished they reminded the table that there was a long line outside. However, the food was amazing. Everything was well flavored and delicious. The hainan chicken is a must get. They also gave me free refill on my ice lemon tea which was really nice. I would definitely come back but maybe when the lines are not as long. The place itself is nothing fancy but is clean and can seat a decent amount of people. They also have free parking beneath which was really clutch. read more

First time at Ipoh Kopitiam, and because of the long lines, we decided to order takeout instead of dining in. I ordered two Hainan chicken plates, roti, kaya toast, and the salt and pepper fried chicken wings--all of which were delicious overall. I was really excited to try this place, but I think ordering takeout may have taken away from the full experience. The Hainan chicken was a bit tough; honestly, the sauce is what really made it exciting and flavorful. Still, we enjoyed it. My kids especially loved the kaya toast and the salt and pepper wings, and I enjoyed the roti as well. When we went to pick up our order, there was a line outside the restaurant, and every seat--both indoors and outdoors--was occupied, which says a lot about how popular this spot is. The staff were friendly and efficient, making sure everything in my order was properly packed and accounted for. Giving this 4 stars for now, and hopefully that will change once we're able to experience dining in next time. read more
I would wait an hour and a half for this place. It is my favorite restaurant in LA!!! This place is well-deservingly packed, even at 5pm. The first time my dad and I went, we just followed our noses and eyes to figure out what to order. The laksa is so fragrant and the shrimp is so fresh -- just don't let it sit. The roti literally burned my fingers -- that's how hot and freshly prepared it was. The curry is on the slightly more sour end (it tastes like it has tomatoes?) and the beef rendang is so flavorful -- I would pick this instead of the chicken curry to pair with the roti. The char kway teow is perfectly sweet and salty while not being too oily. The fried chicken wings were spectacularly juicy and weren't overseasoned. The pineapple buns are also good for sharing between 4 people. I'd stick to that over the kaya toast personally because the flavor didn't shine through as much, but that is also pretty good. Even the steamed yu choy was amazing, with the shallot oil flavor balancing super well with the whole veggie. The only miss of this place out of all of the dishes I've tried would probably be the wanton mee but the soup was also delicious. It felt a little too oily for me and I also just wasn't a fan of the noodle texture and thinness. A group of 4 is the perfect spot for the number of dishes you can eat and the time you spend waiting! We got here early enough to try their breakfast menu, entree + sides with a drink. The breakfast menu is limited but still a great deal. The traditional Malaysia white coffee is bold and tastes great with evaporated milk (usually served with condensed milk but I want it with no sugar). The curry noodle soup was very flavorful. Hong Kong style bun with butter tastes okay. The fresh fillet porridge tastes a bit fishy. We didn't really enjoy the breakfast so we will be back for lunch and dinner only. read more
We joined the waitlist an hour ahead before arriving to the restaurant. It's very popular so make sure to join the waitlist ahead of time. We ordered beef rendang, chicken curry with roti, kaya toast, Hainan chicken, and char kway teow. Everything was delicious, but especially loved the beef rendang, char kway teow, and kaya toast. It reminded me if Singapore. Every dish is packed with flavor. The food is so good! Service was quick and the staff was attentive. Would definitely come back here again! read more
I'm a huge fan of this place and I really hope theyll open one in OC!! Everytime im here im just speechless each time. I always get their Singapore curry laksa, ipoh stir fried egg noodles, roti canai and nasi lemak with chicken curry! My favorite is the curry laksa, it was very unique and left me feeling SOOO full. Waitlist can be a bit long but services were great! Remember to join the waitlist before since I know dinner can take quite a bit of time. Came here with my wife and her family. We got sat down right away. We ordered Hainan Chicken, Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Roti, Chow Fun, Curry Noodles, and Salt and Pepper Chicken. We shared it family style. The beef tendon was very tender and melted in my mouth. The Laksa as you get deeper in the broth gets better. The chicken took about 15-20 minutes to order fresh but it came out piping hot and crispy. We loved everything we ordered. My personal recommendation is the Nasi Lemak with Curry Beef Tendon. read more

Came here as a party of 4 plus a baby on the Monday the week of Christmas. Parking is in the back or underground and it's pretty easy to find a spot. There were quite a lot of people waiting when we arrived around 2 pm so I recommend checking the Yelp waitlist ahead of time to cut down on your wait! To share, we ordered the Kaya & Butter Toast ($5.25), Roti Canai ($8.95), Fried Chicken Wings ($13.95), Hainan Chicken Rice ($15.95), Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef ($16.95), and Curry Laksa Noodle Soup ($15.95). Everything was so flavorful and came out really fast. I have literally no notes on any of the dishes that we got and would order all of them again. We weren't stuffed afterwards but I think we would've been if we ordered one more main dish. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Ipoh Kopitiam does exactly what it should, and does it well. Parking was easy with two underground levels and elevators, and we got lucky with no wait even though a line formed soon after. Inside, it's lively and efficient. Staff move fast and plates come out quickly without feeling rushed. The egg tarts were the clear standout. Flaky crust, smooth custard, lightly blistered tops. The roti canai with curry was also excellent and deeply comforting. The Hainan chicken rice was good overall. The chicken cooled a bit fast, but the fragrant rice and sauces were excellent and carried the dish. Drinks were fine, but the food is the reason to come. Good service, solid execution, and a busy room that knows its rhythm. Would happily come back. read more

Usually not a fan of Malaysian food but the Hainan chicken here and the vibe is immaculate. I really enjoyed how it was thoughtfully plated and how it came with a hot milk tea or lemon tea. The rice was super delicious and the chicken was tender and amazing. Service is friendly, we came during lunch so much less of a rush compared to dinner later. Will be back in the area. read more

Incredible Singaporean/Southeast asian cuisine!!! There aren't many to begin with, and it's so tough to find one that really hits the spot. Headsup, this place gets very busy very fast. There is most often a wait that can be around ~30 min. Free parking available downstairs in a garage below the restaurant, but there's also street parking. Despite the wait, the food came very fast. We got: ROTI PRATA: One of the best roti and sauces I've ever had in LA. This is a must-order. The sauce that it comes with is multidimensional in flavor. I felt like my tongue was getting hit with waves of fragrance. The depth of flavor in this is incredible. One order is good for 2 people to split, so if your party is larger, I recommend ordering more. KAYA TOAST WITH BUTTER: My mouth was screaming with joy! There is also a version of this without the butter, but I recommend getting it WITH! Yes, you see the slab of butter in between the bread, and maybe your arteries are saying no, but listen to your heart on this one. The saltiness from the butter and the subtle sweetness from the kaya butter are an incredible combination. This is a huge specialty of Singapore, and it tasted so authentic. I highly recommend this app as well. A single order is good for 2 people on this one too. SINGAPORE CURRY LAKSA: The portion size for this was huge. The soup was spicier than I expected, but flavorful. Personally, this was just decent for me, and I felt like I've had better Laksa elsewhere, but it was still hearty. A big thing for me is the noodle texture, and the noodles in this one were too soft and spaghetti like for me. I like a tougher noodle with more bounce and chew. PORTUGUESE EGG TART: What can I say? Delicious. Fellow Yelpers have raved about the Beef Rendang, so I definitely want to try that next time! There is a tented outdoor seating area, so if you wanted to bring your dog, the patio is dog-friendly! Keep in mind, it is a bit tight, so it would be difficult if your dog is on the larger end. I've had this restaurant bookmarked forever so I was excited to finally get to try it! My friends and I came on a weekday for dinner and there was no wait. I ordered the Hainan chicken for my entree and we ordered the Kaya toast and the roti canai as appetizers for the table. The Hainan chicken was really good, however, I wouldn't say it's much different from other places I've been to. It was my first time trying Kaya toast and roti canai and I thought they were both delicious! I'd say the food here is really solid. Service here was friendly and attentive. There's also a parking garage in the back with plenty of parking. Overall, I'd recommend this spot if there wasn't a wait, however, I wouldn't think it would be worth waiting an hour in line for it on a weekend. read more
Wait time was insanity on Saturday. I put our names down and it was around 1.5 hrs. I ended up going to a nearby watch store to burn time. It has a modern interior. What we ordered: Hainan chicken - banger, the chicken is good and all the sauces were flavorful but not overpowering. There are other Hainan chicken spots good enough for me not to wait here again however. I'll have to be strategic next time I come here, like not going for weekend lunch rush hour. I'd come earlier. Laksa noodles - another Singaporean special. Flavor bomb of sweet curry, and lots of good ingredients mixed in. They cut the shrimp for you! That's a very nice touch. If I'm ever missing Singaporean food, this'll be my go to. read more

One of my last meals before having a baby was here at Ipoh Kopitam. I've had this place bookmarked for some time and was excited to finally give this place a try. We were able to try the nasi lemak with beef and the Singapore Curry Laksa. Both were delicious, but I do feel like the portions were a bit small. Overall, I think the place is pretty good! I'd like to come back to try some other items like the kaya toast. read more
Woah my brother brought me here when I was in town and their laksa noodle is on point. They're different from other laksa noodle that this is not too sweet and more savory. I got one to share with my boyfriend and got a pine apple bun, which is just ok, not super warm or toasty like hk cafes are. HK milk tea is on point! Love it!!! The hk lemon tea is refillable, maybe the milk tea too? If I'm back in town would def visit! read more
This review is for the breakfast. I have been to Ipoh a couple of times for its breakfast, and it is always delicious. I had the instant curry noodle with pork skin, and it was delicious. The curry was not too spicy and tasted delicious. The milk tea also tasted good. Its milk tea is different from the HK-style milk tea. The tea that Ipoh uses brings out the tea flavor. The service I received was excellent. It was attentive and friendly. read more

TL;DR: Great food! Pretty fast service, even on a weekend! Inside is live with people enjoying the food! The parking is ok. Wait is long, worth it! Roti Canai, great! Beef Rendang Curry, amazing! Singapore Curry Laksa, delicious! Recommend by someone I know and this place was great! I never had Malaysian food until I came here. Hour long wait is worth it! Great place to increase your spice tolerance (solid medium spice level) the food was so savory! I had the Beef Rendang Curry and it was amazing! The beef was so tender and the Roti was light and hot! I don't often try restaurants like these (size, area, and placement wise, not the cuisine). This was a gem I hope to comeback to someday. read more
This is my first visit, I have heard many things about this place, but never had the chance to try it out because of the line. Luckily, we found out that you check in on Yelp ahead of time. By the time we arrived, we immediately got seated. Stir Fried Flat Noodles w/Gravy Sauce: The noodle is chewy and flavored. It comes with shrimps, fish cakes, and veggies. Compared to the Cantonese style, the egg was very raw/uncooked. I'm not sure if this is the Singaporean style, but I just wished the eggs could be cooked a bit longer (to avoid any stomach or flavor issues) Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice: the chicken is incredibly tender and juicy. The jasmine rice is cooked with chicken fats, so it's flavorful. This is one of the most popular dishes. However, if you prefer heavy and flavorful dish then this might not be your to go. Beef Rendang w/Rice: The beef is nice and tender. Very flavorful and nicely cooked. The sauce goes well with the coconut rice. The food is served very quickly, I guess that really helps with table turns. The portion of each dish is great. The restaurant is not too big, they have both indoor and outdoor seatings. It is nice and cozy. Lots of staff, all are very attentive and friendly. Their outdoor parking lot is limited, but there's an underground parking with two levels. read more

Our regular menu is from 11am-2:30pm and from 5-8:30pm. We are closed on Wednesdays.
