Roti Canai - Malaysian-style Indian flatbread with curry dip
    Vic L.

I've been meaning to try this place out for a while now but there always seemed to be a long line outside. So it's nice to finally get a chance to dine in. I came on a week day a little before the lunch rush and didn't have to wait long. PARKING: There is a small parking lot in the back (mostly marked for the clinic) with additional spots in their underground garage. SEATING: It's a medium size place which is ideal for parties of 1-6 people. It's a hybrid booth and chair situation. FOOD: The Roti Canai appetizer was yummy and the curry dip was pretty mild for those who can't handle spice. We ordered the soft-boiled organic pastured egg (2 per order) and it came in this container where we were told to wait for the water to drain. Sadly, I would describe the egg as barely boiled since both the yolk and egg white had not solidified. I prefer my eggs a little more cooked so I passed on it. The salt & pepper chicken wings were solid. Loved the crispy skin and there was plenty of meat. The Dry Wonton Mee with curry chicken was packed with a lot of flavor. It also had a mild kick to it. The wonton was served in a smaller bowl with soup. Their Hainan Chicken which was okay. It came with three dipping sauces and some sliced cucumbers. Overall, I thought the flavor was good. Plates were a decent size and great for sharing. If you are craving Malaysian/Singaporean food, this place will scratch that itch. I do plan on coming back to try their other dishes.

We had just visited Malaysia and were missing the food there. We decide to go to Ipoh Kopitiam during our 48hr SoCal trip. The food was amazing and the pricing was extremely reasonable. We LOVED the roti, it was made in a way where the bottom was more dense and soft and chewy. The Hainan Chicken Rice was tender and made perfectly. The only thing is that the ginger sauce was a little lacking in flavor. We sat outside but it wasn't too noisy at all. It was a little dim but each table has a mini lamp. Service was friendly and quick. We loved that there is parking on site. Definitely put yourself on the waitlist on Yelp to prevent a long wait.

Ordered food togo and it took about 17-18 minutes for it to be done. It was during dinner so it was busy. The chicken wing was crispy and juicy. Not too salty either You cant really go wrong with the hainan chicnese since its their specialty but the rice was a bit too dry for me. I had to drown it in the soy sauce they provided. The red sauce was actually spicy today. Might have changed their recipe since it did look like it had more oil that usual.

Staff were friendly and efficient. The tables were clean and the food was delicious! We enjoyed the roti, the spicy dipping soup sauce was my favorite. The salt and pepper chicken wings were good too. The Singaporean noodle soup was comforting and the stir fry beef noodles were really good too. The hot Milo and Malaysian milk tea reminded me of a Hong Kong cafe.

Where have you been all my life! This is home - hainan chicken , rendang, kaya toast . This is truly simply delicious ! Oh and had the tea. Friday payday- seated quickly- we did list for the waiting list. Open space.

Place is clean and well maintained. Got the Nasi Lemak and Malaysia Fried Rice Noodles and they were equally delicious. Very filling for breakfast. Parking is good with underground parking and street parking. Service is good and shall be back again.

I LOVE IPOH KOPITIAM! Wait time is always so long though, but it's worth it imo. This food reminds me of home (Indonesia) especially the char kwe tiaw and the rendang. The have inside and outdoor seatings. I always come back for the kwe tiaw, it's SOOO GOOOOD. Every other menu that we tried was also good, NOTHING ever disappoint. I love taking all my friends/family here.

Came here for an early dinner. Heard this place is very good and the wait can be long if you come later. Glad we came here at 5pm. You can find parking in the back of the restaurant and there also an underground parking. We parked in the underground parking and took the elevator up to the street level. The restaurant is nice and clean. Plenty of tables. They also have outdoor seatings. They have two sets of menus depending on the time of day. One set of menu is their Lunch/Dinner Menu. The other Menu is their Tea Time Menu, which is from 3:00pm - 4:45pm. We got seated right away since we came at 5pm. The staffs were nice and welcoming. We ordered the A1 - Roti Canai for Appertizer. For the Main Dishes, we got the R1 - Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice and the R4 - Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef. Foods came out so quickly. We loved the Roti Canai, it was so good. The Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice was not bad at all. It was tasty. As for the Nasi Lemak w/ Rendang Curry Beef, wow, it was so good! Loved every bites. I finished the whole thing. It was that good! Loved it! Would definitely come back here again in the future.

We waited 45 min -1 hour on a Friday. A1 Roti Canai $9.50 is really good and shareable. The pancake is fluffy and light and combined with the sauce is even better. N3 Singapore Curry Laksa Noodle Soup $16.95 is really good and highly recommended. It's a big portion and the flavor is delicious. It has a slight sour taste to it. I definitely regretted not ordering this one. But I got to try a little of my friends. R4 Nasi Lemak with Rendang Curry Beef $17.95 is good but I wanted a more soupy dish. The meat and sauce is good. Meat is well seasoned and not dry. Parking is tight but the underground has bigger spaces.

If you're craving legit Malaysian comfort food in the SGV, Ipoh Kopitiam in Alhambra definitely delivers!! This spot is always busy (expect a wait), but it makes sense once you taste the food. They really lean into traditional Ipoh-style flavors, and you can tell they care about authenticity. My personal favorites were the Milo (so rich and nostalgic) and the kaya toast. It was crispy, buttery, and perfectly sweet. Super simple but so satisfying. A lot of people rave about the wings and the Hainanese chicken rice too, and honestly, they live up to the hype. Overall: worth it for the flavors alone. I'll definitely be back.

    Suhyun K.

Been wanting to try this spot and decided to try with my roommate! I love that they have yelp waitlist so I don't have to wait outside. The store itself is small but they are very fast. I personally really liked their appetizers more than their entree but I want to try the curry noodles next time! I would say the price is cheaper compared to the quality that you get. Would come back!

I can see why Ipoh Kopitiam has earned a spot on the Michelin Guide for four consecutive years. My favorite dishes are the Hainanese chicken rice, roti with curry, and the kaya butter toast. The chicken is incredibly tender, and the rice is packed with flavor. The kaya butter toast is simple yet incredibly satisfying, especially when you get a bite with the thin slices of butter. The roti is perfectly chewy and pairs so well with the rich, flavorful curry. Despite the long wait to get seated, the food comes out surprisingly fast. You can also add your name to the waitlist in advance to help reduce the wait time.

This place never disappoints--unless you enjoy being sad, in which case, go elsewhere. I've been here more times than I've checked my phone today, and we've got our all-star lineup on lock: Roti Canai, Hainan Chicken, Kaya toast... You know, the usual suspects. But today, plot twist--we discovered a new legend: Stir fried flat noodle with gravy sauce. Move over, old faves. Pro tip, and I mean this with love: put your name on the Yelp waitlist before you leave the house. Unless you enjoy staring at a line so long it makes the airport security queue look efficient. Seriously, pack a snack for the wait. Or just, you know, Yelp ahead like a civilized hangry human. Service is good, quick, and practical--like a friend who listens to your problems but also tells you when you've got spinach in your teeth. No fuss, no drama, just noodles and gratitude.

They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. They sell a variety of pre-packaged Indonesian snacks, shelf stable groceries, and also freshly-made market snacks, such as pastel, lemper, bakcang, rempeyek, etc. I also tried their savory snack Lemper, which is sticky rice stuffed with shredded chicken that's been cooked in coconut milk. After it is wrapped in fresh banana leaf, it is then char-grilled. Their lemper is really good, but very greasy. It's basically food and lip gloss in one. BOGO Lol Next time when I'm craving more Indonesian food, I'll be coming back to Indo Bistro. They have really good chicken satays.

I was able to find metered parking on the street; not sure why but I didn't need to pay that day! Upon arriving, we were fortunate that there was no wait time and got seated right away. Their menu was quite extensive so we took some time to browse before we ordered. They had a main menu and also a special menu. We pointed out some allergies to the staff and he helped us work around it. The orders came out quickly and he checked in on us frequently to see if we were okay. Great service! Bakka Wild Salmon - This salmon had a lot of things going on for it, in a good way! The combination of flavors felt very refreshing, especially on a hot day. The lime and basil played a big part there. Crispy Short Rib with Lime - Even initially before coming here, this was the dish that caught our attention. I will admit the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected and was even skeptical when it came out. However, without a doubt, this was the highlight of the visit. As someone that loves savory foods, this really hit the spot. The burst of flavors settles in right away. Truffle Wok Seared Noodles - We wanted to pick this noodle dish as a balance to the protein dishes. It did its job but it tasted okay. Not something that stood out. Slow-Drip Vietnam Coffee Flan - I liked the caramel that was layered on the flan, it was crunchy and added a nice texture. It was a nice presentation but tasted okay. Thai Tea - This was my personal drink. It was a standard Thai tea but came with ice cream on top. It was not too sweet but didn't stand out compared to other items. Strawberry Pandan Lemonade - This was my girlfriend's drink. I had a small sip here but found it was refreshing and not too sweet. However, I didn't really get any pandan flavor, mainly strawberry. When it all comes together, it was a good experience. The interior of the story is more dimly lit and felt like a romantic night dinner, despite being the middle of the day. The dishes had a balance of standard and hidden gems. Everything was more than sufficient for two people to share. Service was great and very attentive. Will come back for the Crispy Short Ribs! American Express is accepted here.

Because once seated at the table, I spotted a staff member showing a live crab so big and rugged looking it could have been part of a prehistoric lineup. We whetted our appetite with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and then the food started coming out. It was a veritable feast. One that put some of the wedding banquets I've attended to shame. Every dish was superb, but if I could only choose half, these would be my favorites: -Braised Morel and Chicken Soup -Salted Egg Fried Shrimp -Vietnamese Style Filet Mignon -Salted Fish, Chicken, and Tofu Hot Pot -Vietnamese Style Black Pepper Fried Fish with Basil -House Special Vietnamese style lobster with noodles The runners-up: -Szechuan Fried Free-Range Chicken (Bone-in) -some kind of pork chop -Lotus and Wood Ear Stir Fry -Choy Sum Stir Fry -Steamed Garlic Alaskan King Crab The Hong Kong egg waffle dessert didn't quite land for me, making it the lone outlier in an otherwise spectacular spread. It was my first time trying Morel mushroom soup and Salted egg fried shrimp, and I cannot get enough of them. I hope to visit again very soon!

I know Henry's Cuisine has a strong following and plenty of glowing reviews, so this is simply my…read morepersonal experience after two visits. My first dinner here was actually quite positive. I came with a large group of 7 adults and 4 kids on a very busy night, with a crowd waiting outside the restaurant. Despite how packed it was, service moved steadily and dishes came out in a timely manner. Most of the food felt very homey -- the kind of comforting dishes that reminded me of meals my grandmother used to make. That first visit was pleasant enough that I decided to bring my dad back specifically to try their signature Vietnamese lobster dish. Unfortunately, the second visit turned out to be disappointing. We intentionally came for lunch to avoid the dinner rush and were seated within 5 minutes. The restaurant was only about 75% occupied. Drinks arrived quickly, and we ordered salt and pepper tiger shrimp, green beans, and the house special lobster with an extra order of e-mein noodles on the side. Our server briefly returned with a live lobster in a metal bowl, mumbled "4 pounds," and walked away. A few minutes later, the shrimp and green beans arrived along with rice. We ate, waited, and continued waiting. By the time we had completely finished the two dishes -- probably about 25 minutes later -- nobody had checked on us, updated us about the lobster dish, or even acknowledged the delay. We finally flagged down another staff member and asked for the check because at that point the lobster still had not arrived and we were ready to leave. We asked if the lobster could simply be removed from the bill, but were told it was already being prepared. Ironically, the lobster dish finally appeared moments later, the e-mein noodle followed a few minutes later. For what is marketed as their signature dish, the lobster itself was honestly not very memorable. The preparation with green onion and basil was interesting since it was our first time trying lobster this way, but neither the flavor nor the presentation justified the long wait (if that's what it was or just an oversight in the kitchen) or elevated expectations. What stood out more than the food was the lack of service and communication. Delays happen, especially at busy restaurants, but a quick check-in or update would have made a big difference. The restaurant also automatically adds a 12% service charge to the bill. While automatic gratuities are becoming more common, and in this case, I even added extra just to bring the tip up to 15%. With that expectation, there should also be a basic level of attentiveness and customer service. Overall, the food and service felt comparable to a typical Chinese comfort-food restaurant like Sam Woo, satisfying enough for a casual meal, but not particularly memorable considering the Michelin Guide recognition and pricing. Personally, the experience did not justify a return visit. I'd rather go to places like Lunasia or Kim Tar Seafood, where the overall experience feels more polished and consistent with the price point.
