I originally stopped here planning to grab a Mezza Plate or some hummus because after living on gas station food while trucking, I was craving something a little healthier. Unfortunately most truck stops don't have many good options besides the occasional Subway, and when they do the prices can be ridiculous depending on the city and state. I'm not paying $20 for a combo meal and drink -- you're tripping. So instead I decided to spend that same money here, and I'm really glad I did. For about the same price I got fresh, high-quality food that kept me full all day. I ordered the beef shawarma wrap with Iraqi pickles, and wow. I had never tried Iraqi pickles before, but after adding a few dashes of hot sauce they served with them, I was completely blown away. I asked the lady working what she thought of them and she said they were good -- but for me as a pickle lover, they were amazing. The perfect crunchy snack to go along with that massive shawarma wrap. I was also tempted to get the sambosas, but since I'm in a truck and don't have a way to heat food up properly, I decided to save that for another visit. I'd rather have them fresh anyway. Originally I was actually going to get a gyro since it's simple and filling, but I had never tried a shawarma wrap before. After this experience I can confidently say shawarma might be my new go-to over a gyro. Funny enough, my buddy and I play a game called Scary Shawarma Kiosk on Roblox, so I joked that I should send him a video of me actually eating shawarma. It turned out way better than expected and made the stop even more memorable. I also have to say Troutdale, OR is a beautiful place with a relaxing vibe you don't find everywhere. One thing I really enjoy about my new career in trucking is getting the chance to discover fresh, unique restaurants like this near my drop-off points. read more

This place is in the old Cherry's place, so as you can imagine, it's dated. They tried to make it better, but it needs some work. I really wanted to like this place but not yet. I would give them 3.5 stars. When we got there, only one table was occupied. The lady that greeted us was friendly and welcoming, but she could use a clean uniform. She let us try the Hummus which was delicious. They have few dishes that you can't find anywhere else like okra which I liked enough. We also had that lentil soup. I've had better and worse. They also had a very delicious looking buffet. They also had a very delicious looking buffet. It was $35 per person which I thought is very expensive. There is a sign that says they have a mosque. Don't get me started on that. It could have been a church, and I would have felt the same way. Last night was my second time visiting the "Ishtar Gate Restaurant" in Troutdale, Oregon. My friend, Pam and I had "Lamb Tikka Shiskabob" with dipping sauce over rice along with beautiful salad with a cup of thier house tea. Dave, her husband ordered "Lamb Shank over rice along with that beautiful salad Turkish coffee. Dave also ordered Babushka he said was the best he had ever eaten anywhere! My friends have been many places in their life and their careers. They have been to the middle east so they know what kind of food to order and what's good on this menu especially. Dave had commented that that was the best babusca, he had ever eaten. I had never eaten it before. But ohh, my gosh, it sure was good with that pita bread. Delightly, seasoned buttery right rice was ("Oh my God"!) good! Everything was beyond delicious. We were very satisfied. The first time I stopped in there was with my friend, Debra. We both had these huge "Gyros". Debra had chicken and I had lamb. Both Gyro's were stuffed with meat, veggies, and the best cucumber sauce ever. I will try their very alluring buffet next time or possibly another very delicious sounding dish they have on their menu. Give it a try! I got my food to go and it was incredible. It was meat & chicken kabob over rice but both came with the most incredible salad full of great pickled veggies and some spicy peppers. Excellent. It's the most unique and flavorful restaurant surrounded by truck stops. read more

Received a warm welcome and I had high hopes for my experience. I will be giving this establishment another chance but found my first visit to be lacking. My lentil soup was not hot. I did hear the 'ding' of a microwave from the kitchen and I feel my soup could've benefited from another 45 seconds. After my order was delivered I did not have anyone check to see if I needed anything more and had to get the attention of the employee for both my water and additional utensils. My entree was not as I had expected either. The grilled tomato and onion were ice cold and the chicken was a bit dry. My pieces of chicken were the size of golf balls and I had to ask for a knife to cut them into bite-size pieces. For my beverage I simply asked for a water, no ice and was provided with a bottled water from Safeway. Not impressed, overall but will update my review when I have visited again. We were greeted very kindly but that was where the good service ended Sherry's logos were still all throughout the establishment. I feel like this was not the best location for them to set up. Nobody was in there but when other customer. We ordered a gyro and the lemon chicken with balsamic rice. Also ordered aside a hummus and ask for some naan bread. The naan bread was one cold piece that look like it came from a package from the store. It was not the fresh oven baked delicious mom that I'm used to when going to Mediterranean restaurants. The chicken and rice were good thou. What really got me was the sticker price it was $59 (before tip) for one sandwich one chicken and rice a hummus and a very cold piece of store-bought naan. There were no drinks no fries or chips that came with the sandwich. And the woman working the register is kind of she tried to be I can only understand every fourth word out of her mouth. Extreme language barrier. I really hope with all these bad reviews they'll maybe close up for a few weeks and reconsider how they're going to do their business properly. They took over an iconic spot that meant a lot to people in the Troutdale area. So far very much a disappointment. read more

My friend and I came at about 2:20-2:30am. We were excited that there was a restaurant in the area that was open late since we were hungry. Upon arrival we were not greeted. It looked as if the employees were unhappy that we'd come in. I understood to some degree since they were close to closing. We assured them that we weren't going to be that long. While we were waiting for our food I went to the restroom. The restrooms were disgusting. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. There was no toilet paper and the paper towel to dry hands off with was not in the proper place. It was wet and left on the counter by the sink. I should have left after seeing this but we stayed. My friend ordered lamb over rice. The lamb was not cooked all the way through. While my friend and I were finishing our food one of the employees straight up told us that we needed to leave. It was about 3:06 and we were already wrapping up. After paying for the bill the employee left before we even did. No thank you for coming in or anything. He just abruptly left. Once I was home and looked at my bank account and saw that they charged way more than what the price showed on the menu. I will be disputing this with my bank. The food was fairly good but I don't think I will be back due to an unkept facility and terrible customer service. read more

New location at the old sherrys in troutdale. They've moved a few things in, but they're really not ready for customers yet. We were the only ones there at noon. Ordered two gyros sandwiches - took them forty five minutes to bring it to us.And one of the orders was wrong and they were both cold. The woman who made the food also did the cash register.And she didn't know how to do it. It was a hot mess from start to finish. They need to learn what they're doing and try opening again in about a month. read more
