I had a bit of trouble finding someone to come out and replace a severely damaged sewer collar. Pawel messaged me within the day asking for pictures. I snapped a few and sent them VIA text, he provided a quote, and said he would not be able to make it out until the following week due to his schedule. I agreed to the quote. A worker came by in the morning and took some measurements and told me that he'd be back later in the day. The stone foundation of our 1860s house in oak park had some big gaps in the joints that were allow pests to infiltrate into our basement, and in general was not in great shape. Pawel came out and quickly gave us a very competitive quote for re-pointing the entire foundation, and replacing some crumbling stones. I researched masonry companies and decided to go with J&P to do Tuckpointing and brickwork on my Chicago Georgian. The team was very professional, prompt and timely and their craftsmanship is very detailed and clean. Even my architect neighbor who was unhappy with her mason complimented us on the wonderful job they'd done and asked for their number to correct the work of the mason who did the brickwork on her newer construction home. We had this team come to evaluate our brick garage which was in terrible shape. Very old, crumbling bricks and heaps of powdery phosphorescence coming from the walls and making a mess - maybe it should be rebuilt. But, we didn't have the budget for that, and got a quote from Pawel that seemed to address everything we might need to fix the crumbling parts, stop the mess on on the inside walls, and give it a good clean-up. Wojtek and his team worked SO hard on this job. Really went above and beyond - including doing a lot of small (and somewhat extra) things needed to complete the job: helped move our shelves around inside the garage, cut down tree branches in the way (neatly cutting them up for disposal), and in general were careful and considerate about the clean up. The actual tuckpointing work looks great, addressing all the big issues specified in the quote, and even a few extras (small sections that needed a quick patch, and supplying some new bricks in the big problem areas, that are essentially rebuilt). We had our 1930 home entirely tuckpointed by J&P Masonry. I have a construction management background and interviewed a lot of masons for this job. Pawel Fit was far and above in terms of expertise compared with the other contractors who either didn't know the answers to my questions or just dismissed them. Using the correct mortar is critical to prevent efflorescence and failure in the bricks. A year later we've not had any efflorescence not any problems. Started the project about a year later (8/24/2016), his team torn down entire upper parapet wall completely and rebuilt it using the same bricks. Pawel & John did some excellent work building a custom fireplace for our new home. It was a complex job, requiring some modifications and additions to existing brickwork plus some brand-new stone surrounding the fireplace and running seamlessly into a recessed alcove above. The fireplace they built looks amazing. They are clearly practiced and talented masons and artists. That by itself is enough to warrant a good review. Where to begin with the praise. I found these guys on Yelp, as their reviews were above and beyond everyone else's - after using them myself, I can certainly see why. I got three quotes on some brick repair that I needed done on my back patio, and they were the best price out of all three. As for the work itself, they did a great job, and Pawel is simply wonderful to work with. I don't think there was a single time where I texted / emailed him and didn't hear back within 15 minutes (good customer service, as we all know, is so rare in this industry). My project was a little more complex than normal, as it involved not just some existing repairs, but also replacing some brick, matching the brick to the original by reaching out to the original distributor from several years ago, and then picking up / delivering the brick to my house as well.
