What I remember is the guy serving me being friendly, taking my order and also running the register along with the phone. The place has an old school look, and this is kind of like an Oakland Chinese-Korean version of Shiki's if you southern Bay Area residents remember the place. I can type that this is the best jajangmyun in the East Bay even though I had maybe two others, and I don't remember the prior experiences that well. Some people type that Paik's jajangmyun is better, but for me, while Paik's has the better technique, Yu Yu's is more homey obviously. (Neither can beat this one place in Los Angeles I forgot though.) I also like how the place has the Pororo drinks because I so can't drink soju if I'm doing a solo drive. The value's actually good as well, and I wish I got the tangsuyuk. The flaws of the place? The parking's tricky. The scenario though is that a star's deducted more so because of the basic service. Yu Yu Za Zang's a good place. While it does have it's there service, its food and drinks make up for the bother. Intrigued by Heidi's proposal of Jade Kitchen's Garlic Crab, I ordered some a few months back, and neglected to post about it. Eager to see what was so bitchin' about Jade Kitchen, I eagerly awaited my slightly open container to find a whole Dungeness, fried for my eating pleasure. What I learned from that experience, is that Garlic Crab is not, and will not ever be dorm food. The crab was delicious, but also quite messy, and needs to be taken out of the container completely to be enjoyed. Also, not having a shell cracker sucked like nobody's business. Now, with that review, you may be wondering, "So, why the two stars, you sexy, sexy Black man?" and with that, I am provided a convenient segue into my follow-up experience. On a rainy day last week, I decided to call up Jade Kitchen for some delivery, as they were the only place open at the time. Order placed for an Orange Chicken combo plate, and some Crab Cheese Wontons, with an ETA of 45 minutes. An hour passes, and I wonder why my food is 15 minutes late, only to get a call from the delivery driver telling me to head downstairs. I tell him to wait for me, and I head down stairs from my fifth floor, to the fourth floor where he was supposed to be. Wouldn't you know it, the guy bailed with my food, and when I call him, he nearly berates me for "Taking to long to come", and tells me that he's busy and on his way back to the restaurant. As an afterthought, he asks me if I want my food, and I exclaim of course, though my wontons are surely soggy by now thanks to the accumulated steam. He tells me he'll be back in five. Not five, but twenty minutes later, this bastard-coated bastard returns with my food, and my credit card receipt. Though pissed, I am also hungry, so I pay the man for my food. While I'm reaching into my pocket for the fiver I'm going to tip this ass with, he hands me the receipt back with the word "Tip" circled in blue ink! Oh, you're getting a one-dollar bill, you jerk. All this was for some slightly overcooked wontons, barely above-average BBQ Pork Fried Rice, and less-than-Panda-Express-quality Orange Chicken? Oh, believe me, the Garlic Crab is the only thing saving this place from One Star City. read more

This was my go to place for Chinese food in Oakland. I've been eating Jade Palace for over 15 years they must have new ownership because the food I order tonight was disgusting. I ordered Kung Pao beef and Prawn fried rice. I took pictures just to show how much of the beef was in the container it was 75 to 90% vegetables there was no BEEF at all I was very disappointed. The rice was very old, a lot older than usual so old it was stuck to the container like how if you leave it in the container overnight or something of the other it was very gross and hard but the prawns inside were cooked to perfection. I will never spend my hard earned money there again and it is my advice to other s to not do the same. When you go to a restaurant that you feel you trust, it shouldn't be hit or miss it should be good every time. they have lost a long time faithful customer they will not be receiving any of my money for any reason ever again I've always overlooked their choppy customer service because of the food but now that the food is of poor quality I had to send out my Yelp my opinion read more

I have been coming to this place over the years. It has been awhile since I have stopped by but I was able to the other day. It looks like the place has been remodled I remember when it was an L shape. I like the new set up. The food remains plenty and good. My favorite is dry fried ribs with fried rice. I've been coming here since high school and I really enjoy the food here. I always order the shrimp chow mein, dried fried ribs, salt and pepper chicken wings, and honey walnut shrimp. I'm addicted to the salt and pepper flavor. The SALT AND PEPPER CHICKEN WINGS AND RIBS are the best I've ever had. KFC and Wingstop can't compare at all. However, I admit that street parking is problematic in Chinatown. The only public garage is in the lower levels of the Pacific Renaissance Center. Tasty Szechuan is on Havenscourt Blvd., between Foothill and Bancroft. Street parking is problematic in this area, too. My male companion is a regular customer, usually ordering the dried fried ribs and chicken chow mein to go. Since I like hot 'n sour soup, he surprised me with a container thereof. I have not had dried fried ribs in a while. Too many years have gone by without eating them. The best ones I had were from a Chinese restaurant in NSO on San Pablo Avenue. Unfortunately, that restaurant has been long gone. These ribs were good, doctored up with some sweet 'n sour sauce. The chicken chow mein was okay. However, the hot 'n sour soup was on point. Thick and not too spicy - just the way I like it. Even though the food is more than a three star rating (3.25), it is at this time I can only give it a three star. A visit to the restaurant to peruse their menu would probably give me a better perspective as to what they have to offer.

I knew I wanted good Chinese food in a clean, safe area--not in Oakland, but with food just as good. We found Hong Kong City Cafe in Alameda, and the reviews looked promising. We walked in around 8:20 p.m., and the gentleman at the front let us know they closed at 9 p.m. I appreciated him making sure we knew before we sat down. We ordered some of our usual dishes so we could compare them to our favorite Chinese spot. The pork fried rice was good, but it had a little too much shredded lettuce for our liking. Thankfully, the pork was super tender and flavorful, so I would still give it an 8/10. I ordered the Wor Wonton Soup, and it probably had the best broth I've ever had. I can't explain the flavor--it was just DELICIOUS. It came loaded with pork, beef, shrimp, chicken, and shrimp-filled wontons. My husband ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and we both agreed it was the best we've ever had. I think the char on the vegetables really makes a difference. We also tried the Walnut Shrimp. It tasted more natural than other walnut shrimp we've had. We wished the shrimp had a little more crunch, but it was still really good. Overall, this was a 4/5-star experience. We wish we could have stayed longer, but they were closing, so we didn't want to hold them up. There was also a table of about 10 people drinking that made the restaurant really loud. Obviously, that's not the restaurant's fault, but it did affect our experience.
