My fiancee and I happened upon this restaurant and OMG we enjoyed it so much. We didn't want the dining experience to end. She had the salmon and I the chicken and the drinks were Tamarindowskis. We've returned to this restaurant a number of times since I posted my last review nearly 6 years ago, and we continued to support Jaguar on a few occasions through the pandemic. On our last few visits here, we noticed a lot of newer faces among the staff, but what's better, we noticed a big improvement on the somewhat spotty and often slow service this restaurant had once been known for. It turns out Jaguar is under new ownership and management, though the signage, decor and menu offerings (thankfully) remain relatively unchanged. We recently came here for Brunch with our dog and were given the choice of 3 different tables on the sidewalk patio in front of the place, which is shielded from the street and traffic noise by lots of plants, trees and greenery. The staff was there right away to offer menus, to give us plates and cutlery and another staff brought a carafe of ice water and served us. They also brought a dish of water for our dog. We asked for the brunch menu which they brought, and they also brought a new dog menu which features a salmon or churrasco steak with rice and veggies for dogs, for $8 each. Novel concept, but we passed on the dog menu during this visit. Though bloody marys aren't listed on the menu, we requested them and they accommodated, served complete with Tajin on the rim, limes, celery and olives. We also requested the chips and salsa which used to be complimentary to all customers, but have been available for a charge for some time now, and we also ordered ceviche to share. Everything was good, but the salsa isn't quite as spicy or flavorful as it used to be. While we were here, the neighboring table also requested a hotter salsa with their chips so it seems we weren't the only ones who noticed that change. For our main courses I had the huevos estrellados while my husband ordered the chilaquiles; Both were very good as always. We asked if this place is under new management or ownership because we'd seen so many new faces and a marked improvement in service during our last 2 visits here. We were told there was indeed a change in ownership along with new management as well, including a few who'd worked at Jaguar for some time and are now in management positions. It definitely shows, and the 2 areas where Jaguar sometimes fell down in the past - Service quality and speed, seemed to be key focus areas for them. One example is that we'd once come here for brunch several months ago (pre-covid), we'd arrived 10 minutes before brunch was to end, but we were flatly told they'd already ended that service. On this most recent visit our server came to take our orders a few moments after the brunch service had ended, so when we attempted to give our selections, his handheld tablet wouldn't accept them. He told us he specifically recalled us asking for the brunch menu when we arrived, so he went and grabbed some paper and manually wrote down our orders so he could accommodate, without us even having to ask. read more

I used to come to Jaguar regularly, but the lack of consistency in the kitchen has changed dramatically in the past two years. The flavors have changed. Sometimes they get it right as they used to and sometimes it's way off. I only recommend the Ceviches which they can't mess it up because their sauces are already pre-made and bottled up for you to purchase. I don't recommend their chips and salsa. Sometimes they are ok, but most of the time they add a ton of salt that it's inedible. It depends on the day of the week. Jaguar is a nice family style restaurant but the lack of consistency in the kitchen is what hinders the experience. The service is always great, professional and super friendly. For someone who is not a local would enjoy this restaurant. But for those who have known Jaguar since it had opened, there are a very few safe dishes. Hopefully, management would take action to rectify the kitchen's lack of consistency. I tried to come back every other month to see if there has been any improvement, but I'm going to wait a little bit longer this time to hopefully they get it right. read more

She ate all 5. *Husband had the mahi tacos and ate all of them. I ate his rice and beans which were delicious. Prices are on the higher side but worth it in my opinion. We met Paul the manager as we were walking by and liked him so much we made reservations! If I was a 90 lbs model it would have been fine but I felt cheated. A bit more veggies to make the tiny portion of protein would have been better. Had not been there in a minute. Will be another minute before I go back. They get the 2 stars for service and ambiance . It was very good. Food on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. They changed a few things on the menu which were unique to them , was disappointing but ok. Change is sometimes necessary but everything looked average like everywhere else. So the server recommended the brisket ropa vieja..not even close. Buyer be ware don't fall for it!! 10 oz of chewy, tough, fatty brisket in gravy. The punch line $60. Not worth it at all... Entrees and dessert were savory and large portions. My shrimp had a delicious sauce called the sour mojo. The Margarita wasn't my favorite, lacked the lemony zip I prefer. The Peruvian ceviche was alright we had the large portion which was kind of small for 2, it was good and fresh but I expected more of the sweet potato since it was listed on the ingredients. For dessert we had the bread pudding with a side of ice cream which was a generous size for sharing and super yummy. The ambience is beautiful an waiters quick and attentive. A delightful place with the main goal to combine all Latin American cuisines under one roof. A must-visit in the heart of Coconut Grove. The service was the right amount of attentiveness once the manager noticed we had been waiting to order for quite some time (15-20 minutes after being seated). I LOVE this restaurant! The food is terrific. You can't go wrong with any of the ceviches and I had a pregnancy obsession with the Celia's salad. Add the Nuevo sauce- you won't be disappointed. I get it with salmon- which is cooked to perfection at the perfect medium temp. It's crispy and oh so yummy. Their guac is fresh and delicious. The drinks are also terrific. I recently came for a ceviche class with girlfriends. I highly recommend this! It was with the chef and owner, Oscar. Comes with a drink and you get to make your own ceviche- a fun activity! ($50) Not only does Jaguar have amazing Peruvian food, but their service is top notch. Everyone is really friendly and attentive. I so appreciate this! One time I came for lunch to meet a friend. They were closed for a private event and the manager gave me a gift card because he saw how disappointed I was that they were closed. Just overall a high quality restaurant. Had to post this review just to rave about the Mahi Mahi! It was out of this world. Fresh and perfectly cooked. So enjoyable with probably the best Cesar Salad I've ever had! The happy hour was great! From 5-7 (including Friday) HH includes bites if you sit at the bar. From HH bites We had the quesadillas which were amazing! The sliders and ceviche were ok but not great. The bartender was really nice and made some amazing drinks. The pisco sour was really good but the México over melon was amazing (comes on a large tall glass and is not very sweet) try it! And the best part of it all, the bread pudding!!! It wasn't on the menu but if you ask for it they should have it, comes with a scoop of ice cream and can be shared. read more

I ate here Friday night and the best way to describe it is disappointing. I started with a spicy caipirinha, which was fine except the drink arrived at the table with the ice already watered down. Not sure if the server took too long to bring it after it was made or their ice isn't up to snuff. The second drink was the same. As an appetizer we ordered the Tiradito Oriental ($24), which consists of tuna, ginger-jalapeño sauce, avocado, and cucumber criolla. It was completely bland, tasteless, although the tuna was definitely high quality. We also had the smoked fish croquetas ($13). The stuffing was very good but the croquetas were over fried, making the coating dry and ruining the dish. For my main dish I had the fried rice chaufa with skirt steak ($29). The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but the rest of the dish was overpowered by the sauce. The sauce had a nice kick but there was too much of it. My wife had the fish tacos ($22) and she loved the mahi but the fish was inundated with too much chipotle aioli. Our friend's each had the cheese burger ($17), which they reported as nothing special and too well-formed to be made fresh in-house, which, if true, would be appalling. We finished off with the bread pudding ($10) and it was good, not too dry or hard, but again, nothing about it stood out. When the waitress asked if everything was okay with our appetizers, I reported my complaints and had her clear the Tiradito Oriental (mostly uneaten). The manager eventually came over and asked what was wrong with the dish to which he responded with a patronizing "I've never heard that before" and then offered to comp our desert after one of our party (not me) suggested it. His response and offer were as uninspired as the food. How about offering a different appetizer? How about making sure the desert was comped (we were charged)? How about some other response than disbelief? As for the ambiance, it's upscale and happening, but incredibly loud. Very difficult to hold a conversation with anyone other than the person sitting next to you. The best thing about our experience was the service. It was efficient and professionally friendly. I won't be back and I don't recommend anyone waste their money here. While not the most expensive restaurant in town, at this price point I expect more from the food and management. read more

Jaguar, owned by the the group behind Jaguar Ceviche, Peacock Garden Bistro, and Talavera Cocina Mexicana (Coral Gables) is, like Peacock, a staple of the Grove's cuisine scene. This was my first visit back to Jaguar since Covid and it didn't disappoint. We sat outside and it was paradise with plenty of shade and fans blowing gently the salt air. I always loved their ceviche and ordered the Peruano ceviche. The serving was generous and the taste was spectacular. We also had the guacamole, but the chip serving was pithy. For our entrees we had the fish tacos and the steak tacos. We swapped tacos. My mahi mahi had generous servings, but the presentation was sloppy. There was sauce on the outside of the tacos which made eating them with your hands nearly impossible. Even though the mahi mahi serving was generous, it was too much for a taco. I ended up eating the fish with a fork and foregoing the taco. The steak tacos were awesome. Almost wish I had ordered them instead. So moist and flavorful, like angus tips (they are not, it's flank steak but soooo good). Service was great. Alberto has been there for years and it was very nice to see him again, especially after Covid. Parking is off street or in the Coco Walk garage next door; it is not validated. read more

WOW! i've been on a bad streak of restaurants recently but I decided to go to Jaguar as a friend recommended it to me. I was not disappointed! Beautiful ambiance. The service was exceptional, the drinks were incredible and the food was DELICIOUS! I had the grilled picanha adobada with fries, quesadilla and fried calamari along with an espresso martini. I DEFINITELY recommend the picanha; perfectly cooked and the chimichurri sauce was divine. I do want to say that I believe they can do slightly better with the fried calamari as it was a bit soggy. The ambiance inside here is so cool! It's dark with loud music which makes it a fun, young scene. The drinks were delicious, and the ceviches we had to start were delicious and tart. I would skip the quesadilla next time around because the meat was sparse and not too memorable. The Mariscos was really tasty in the aji amarillo cream & saffron sauce. Finally came back to this place after five years. It's still very good, in general I'm a fan of the restaurant group but the last time we were there we got some complimentary chips (a combo of plantains and tortilla chips) with dip and we did not get that this time. Fiancée and I split 2 ceviches (Peruano and Mexicano) and the adobo chicken app. This was enough food for us. I preferred the Mexicano ceviche but both were good, and not that different asides from the mixins. We would have tried the tuna ceviche but it was more expensive and/or they didn't have a small size. The adobo chicken was very succulent. My fiancée had the coqueta cocktail that she quite enjoyed but I found a little sweet. The gin, St. Germain, and Aperol was a combo though that I had never considered before and might try again. We lucked out and got the last table outside at around 7 on a Saturday night, but I think they had plenty of indoor tables still. read more

Fantastic! Have known about this place for years, shame on me for not trying this place sooner. Walking in on a Friday evening we were fortunate enough to enjoy the last 'hour" of happy hour. We ordered their house wine and an old fashioned to get this started right, as well as food items listed on their happy hour - three cheese quesadilla and popcorn fish & shrimp. Both good bites to start, but we wanted to dive into the ceviche this place is known for. Ordered straight to the top, their most popular dish black market ceviche. OMG. Probably one of the best ceviches I've ever had. The fish was so savory, even the little pieces of corn had the right crisp to go together with the marinade. I felt like ordering bread to dip (no, i didn't that would have been weird, i know). We enjoyed this ceviche so much we ordered one more then onto dessert, "palomas de cajeta". Not your typical crepe with dulce de leche. This one had soft whipped cream, a hint of banana, topped with macadamia nuts and soft vanilla ice cream. Sadly, we were so full enjoying everything else we couldn't finish it! But wow, what a dessert! Next time in the area I am definitely hitting up Jaguar! Inwas in the mood of taking the family somewhere chill and stylish so decided to come here. It was a great choice! We were greeted with smiles and our waiter Gilberto was extraordinary! He had great suggestions and was funny and very attentive. The food also was delicious and you can taste the freshness of the fish, the vegetables of all the ingredients. For example my mother ordered the Quinoa salad with salmon and I tried some of hers and it was like having a tropical oasis in my mouth. Great combination of the mango with the quinoa etc. Also the tuna nikkei was different utilizing pumpkin seeds, leche de jaguar and it really isn't spicy but jalapeños was mild. Overall the experience starting from entering the establishment till the end of our meals was stupendous. Would definitely come back and hope that Gilberto is there too. So I've been to many places in Miami, but few stand out the way, Jaguar in the grove does. This five star restaurant deserves to be featured as one of the best restaurants in Miami, South Florida! When you walk in you immediately feel like family. We started our night with some signature drinks I had the Tamaridowski ( sweet, strong tamarindo flavor, perfect). We also ordered a special appetizer that was featured on their Instagram page: spicy steamed mussels, im usually not a fan but omg they were soo good! And their famous Black Market Ceviche, you are going to want your own, it's one of the best in town! Moving on to the entrees: We came with our minds set on their picanha steak but Jorge one of the managers recommended the strip steak loin and we were soo thankful, it was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. The service, the vibe, food five stars by far and then to top it off. We had the chef special dessert. Can't recall exactly what was in it, but it was unbelievable. Like a nutty dulce de Leche cream on top off some kind of cake and ice cream to die for. You must come Jaguar the next time you go to the Grove you will not be disappointed. read more
