First time here per recommendation and they have this loyalty program called Blackbird that they encourage you to sign up for. So I did but what they don't tell you is that you need to save your credit card in the app in order for it to work. With so many data breaches, I don't do this for my own security. Having already sunk in the time and effort, I went ahead to save the payment so I can scan and move on. Unfortunately, it didn't scan at the puck and we couldn't figure out why. I thought this would be more like Five Stars or other app loyalty programs but it's definitely more entrenched and requires more of your data to they can track and sell. We spent over 15 minutes trying to figure this out and in the end, the manager was apologetic and gave us our order for free. We left a $20 tip but I still feel duped over their loyalty program. The cashier didn't know too much about it and couldn't help me navigate, and the manager couldn't figure out why we couldn't scan. I gave three stars instead of one because the attitudes of the employees were really good but I'm still upset over what I feel was a duplicitous program, having handed over my data, and for wasting so much of my time. The matcha latte is not sweet and taste very much like ceremonial matcha. The Americanos are good. The food looks good but I'm too upset to eat unfortunately. I came at the end of the day, so their most popular pastries had sold out. I'm not the biggest fan of bread pudding in general, but the bread pudding muffin was their only unique pastry left so I ordered. It was good! If you like bread pudding, you'd like it! It was unique and interesting and tasty. No seating and just standing room. Staff were so lovely with explaining their pastries.
This one has high ratings and reviews, but I've never managed to make it here early enough to experience their full selection. Every time I visit, it's usually close to closing time, so there are only a few bread and pastry options left. Even so, the shop is always busy, which says a lot about how popular it is. This time, I tried the chocolate coconut brioche. The price was reasonable, and the flavor was pretty good. Bread was soft with some kind of sweet jam, not the freshest but it's okay. I noticed from other photo reviews that they offer several savory pastries as well, and they look really tempting. I'll definitely come back earlier next time to give those a try.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Smells so good from blocks away![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have so much varieties of sweet and savory pastries, bread and sandwiches to choose from! We tried roast beef sandwich and prosciutto burrata sandwich and the bread itself was pretty good even after having it the next day. For pastries, we had the olive & pistachio twist and raspberry brioche. They were both not too sweet and had their own taste of texture. They also have coffee which I'll try next time! They have a parking lot so it's pretty convenient for a quick grab! Will definitely come back here to explored the rest of their menu!
There's a small parking lot that usually have people move in and out pretty quickly so very convenient if you're driving in! There was a short line around lunch time on a Saturday that moved very fast. Lots of choices from sandwiches to cookies to bread to pastries that all are very visually appealing. They do run out of certain types of pastry such as their cinnamon roll so you should come earlier for those. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's an outdoor seating area for you to enjoy the pastry at the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can also pay with Blackbird here which is convenient. There's more variety than Arsicault, but if you're looking for crossiants, the ones here are definitely not as good.
Cheddar chive biscuit 3.5/5 - wouldve been better with something but on its own as a breakfast pastry I thought it was ok Bacon cheddar caramelized onion quiche 5/5 - very tasty. I just wish they had a healthier alternative, for example with spinach or chicken breast Mushroom Gruyère tart 4/5 - my favorite part was the mushroom center, rest was ok Spicy sausage Gruyère croissant 2/5 - too greasy. Good selection here! Pop right in and browse. try something! there are ready to go cookies and little baggies if you want something grab and go or for a little gift. there's sweet and there's savory items too. i myself like to try what looks new to me, so recently i had a japanese style fermented beans and pickles on a bread pastry. very interesting. the items go fast so if the person in front of you picks up the last of what you wanted, youre just out of luck. happened to me twice. but i cant leave without getting something, so just pick something else to try! LIMITED parking. best to walk here or find street parking
This was my first time ever going to this bakery and goodness I loved everything I got, yet I was disappointed that my strawberry danish went bad when I went to eat at the next day. I have a marble countertop where it stays rather cold, and I placed the pastry on the counter there so it would stay cold so I could eat it for breakfast Sunday morning yet when I went to eat it, I found the mole. I could still eat the pastry around it since the only part was bad with the strawberry. Lol, but it made me wonder if the strawberries were freshly made that day or from another morning. As I walked into the bakery, there was a line in front of me that moved rather quickly so it took maybe 5 to 10 minutes for me to get my order and I ordered eight different pastries! Lol Service was rather quickly and the lady surfing me was very patient since I walked back-and-forth between different Pastory cases since I couldn't see everything as I walked up to the front. I love their assortment of savory pastries with mushrooms and other savory pizza like items as well as their sweets that they had like the danish and coffee cake. They also had a number of gluten-free items that were delicious as well! The gluten-free crumble coffee cake I got was simply superb! I could eat it and feel guilt free since I have a slight allergy to gluten. Lol I have cheap days though! I will definitely be back again and next time I will eat my strawberry danish, the first day!
Gone back here years later ..got the $15 prosciutto sandwich ..and spinach quiche ..with a Mexican cola ..very good filling lunch ..variety on menu
Black sesame flan for the fam and it didn't have any black sesame taste- we were a bit skeptical western bakeries wouldn't know how to do black sesame and it was really tart. Not enough black sesame. The person at the counter did his best to sell everything as really good but in reality it wasn't.
Wow, what a sweet spot to visit while we were in town for my birthday! Chris & Megan were both wonderful in offering us some recommendations and boy were they right! Chris recommended the babka (we decided on the apple butter version) and the twice baked ham & swiss croissant & Megan recommended the Blackberry Kouign Amann. The babka reminds me of monkey bread, sticky and delicious until the last bite! The ham & Swiss croissant is melty and delicious and just falls apart in your mouth beautifully. The blackberry kouign amann, no idea what I even ate but boy I can't wait to have it again and the crisp on the outside reminds me of the top of a crème brûlée. The crème/yogurt filling was SO good. We also tried the Swiss chard galette, it tasted like a filled classic biscuit without the gravy, and finally, I got a hot chocolate for the road and even that exceeded expectations & tasted straight like a melted chocolate bar! If you're in town or a local, you've got to pay this spot a visit!
Great coffee and tasty pastries -- what more can you ask for? I frequently (perhaps too frequently...) drop by Jane for a quick bite before work, and I'm always impressed by the wide spread of pastries, ranging from the classics to creative and unique confections. I first tried my go-to baseline -- a chocolate croissant and cappuccino -- and I was quite impressed overall! The croissant was buttery and flakey, and it had plenty of chocolate. If anything, it might have had slightly too much chocolate for my taste, since it was quite a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but that might be a controversial take. I've branched out in subsequent visits, often heavily influenced by whatever the person in front of me ordered. I adore their cardamom bun, which is flakey, buttery, and sweet but not overly so. The bun is filled with a vanilla cream that's tasty and surprisingly light (and lightly sweetened), creating a really tasty and balanced treat. For something more savory, I also love their olive and pistachio twist. It is, again, buttery and flakey, but has a great punch of flavor from the generous helping of olives. I love the added nuttiness from the ground pistachios; I will warn you that it does get stuck to your teeth pretty easily, so I'd enjoy this with water. The staff was super friendly and efficient -- I was in and out within five minutes, which included my indecision at the counter -- so it's a great spot if you're in a rush. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There isn't any indoor space to sit down, but there's a standing counter along the window or a few communal booths outside that you can hang out at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The coffee is nice and nutty, and I love getting the cappuccino here to more fully taste the flavor of the beans. They recently started trying out a new type of almond milk that comes in powder form, so the baristas can adjust the level of water (and therefore the consistency and flavor). It's a bit sweetened but not much, so I love that they're able to make the milk a bit creamier and overcome the classic barista challenge with almond milk -- the wateriness. As they were testing it out, the baristas also asked for customer input, so it was super fun to chat and brainstorm with them, and I loved how open to feedback they are.

This place lives up to the hype. I picked up some pastries before work on a Saturday at 8:30am and there was already a line out the door. It moved very efficiently though so not too much waiting. It was so hard to select what I wanted but ended up with a banana bread, kougin aman, and a coffee cake. They were all so incredible I wish I had an appetite to order more. Will definitely return next time I visit SF. read more

Stopped enroute to a days trip here based on friend's recommendation..so glad to have found a nice authentic French bakery in this part of the city among couple others. Brief and brisk moving line, within few minutes got to the counter brimming with many baked items, although they had ran out of chocolate croissants (prob one shud get there before 9am?). Nevertheless got their regular croissant and poppy lemon cake & dense chocolate Bundt. Each were pretty good thick slices costing around 6-8$ each. Coffee was ok. They do have little sit out place outside and parking can be little tight. Just one can wait as people keep rolling out or on street parking. Will stop by again to check out few other items , like baguettes , but will be there lil early read more

Jane Thee Genius. This is one of the best bakeries in the area for certain items! Here are some of my favorites: Any croissant you can get your hands on. I love the ham and Swiss and the twice baked chocolate almond. The spicy sausage and provolone ain't half bad either. Big fan of their espresso drinks as well. Not-so-favorites: Their cookies are typically hard and dry. To each their own, but I don't prefer cookies like that. I would say pass on any of their cookies or Bundt cakes if you don't like dry things. Pass on their chai as well. The service can be hit or miss. They are usually really busy, so it's understandable that the employees can come off a bit cold and rushed. I've visited in the late afternoon as well though when there were no other customers and the staff were aloof then too. Seems to mimic the same inhospitable atmosphere of Jane on Fillmore. read more
There is usually a long line out the door because many people want the fresh baked goods from Jane. My secret is to order ahead and pick up. However, ordering ahead doesn't give you the full menu, and I often find myself drooling at the savory scone, brioche, and anything else that is very unique...so not really sure if it's not worth waiting in line :P another idea is to come in the early afternoon when there are fewer people, however, you then run the risk of goodies running out! A few of my staples: sourdough, walnut & fig, and olive & polenta. These loaves freeze really well if you're just buying for yourself. Immediately slice it when you get home, and pop them in the freezer. Whenever you want to indulge, let it thaw, toast, and it's as good as the day you got it. I also love the croissants (b/c honestly who doesn't love a good croissant!?). I do think the plain and chocolate croissants are better than the ham & cheese - but that's personal preference. "My weak spot is laziness. Oh, I have a lot of weak spots: cookies, croissants..." - Sir Anthony Hopkins Absolutely FAB Bakery! Jane the Bakery in the Western Addition exceeded my expectations for bakery standards. In fact, Lady Jane brought back fond memories of my Springtime days in Paris... where I'd wake up every morning for a freshly made Croissant, Pastry and Latté! Ahh I miss those days... The location of Jane the Bakery is located at the old KFC on Geary. It's funny 'cause the huge "bucket" sign was never removed, instead painted all black lol. Not sure if there's a political statement in this, or just an artsy vibe, but I can dig it! I was greeted with a line of about two dozen pastry aficionados before me. All eager to get inside, let's not forget the restless fur babies impatiently waiting too lol. After about 15-minutes or so I make it to the inside, which allowed me to peruse the menu and pastries display case. I decide to purchase a few since everything looked so delicious. I'm warmly greeted and I decide on sweet, savory, and something fruity. For sweet I chose the Kouign-Amann ($4), for savory I chose the Ham & Swiss Croissant ($5), and for the fruity I chose the Raspberry Brioche ($5). I decide to add Matcha Latté ($5) instead of the Golden Turmeric Latté which the Barista described to me as "only if you like Turmeric" lol. Matcha Latté it is! Standing inside rekindled my appreciation of freshly baked and crafted pastries. Nothing generic here. It's all about the attention to detail and quality. And the taste of each was a party in my mouth! I enjoyed the Raspberry Brioche the most, closely followed by the Kouign-Amann. Least favorite was the Ham & Swiss Croissant which was good, but not memorable - the execution for this was just okay. The Matcha Latté was absolutely divine and I watched the Barista ground the Matcha before carefully adding Almondmilk (per my request). No fancy heart design but the flavor is what matters! If wondering "Jane" is entrepreneur "Amanda" who co-founded Jane on Fillmore and Jane on Larkin in San Francisco. Her latest venture was saving the iconic Toy Boat Cafe on Clement. And of course the founder of Jane the Bakery! You can feel her love! In the end, you don't have to be versed in Culinary Art to enjoy these baked goodies! Kids will love it! It's by no means a fancy Parisian cafe near Jardin des Tuileries, however what lacks in ambiance, Jane makes up with extraordinary Pastries! read more
Jane has the best oat latte I've ever had in my life. It's so good. I wish they sold their beans or something because I've tasted nothing like it. Nutty, slightly cinnamony, the coffee is so good!! And their bread is amazing! Chocolate croissant never fails. I love that you can also get half loaves (although wish they sold it sliced up!). Got Fig & Walnut loaf and it's so hearty, nutty with a slightly sour flavor. Soft and chewy inside with a thick crust. read more

I came here around 7:45am last week before heading to work at the Presidio and it was such a treat so it's safe to say street parking was easy to find around this time of day. They do have a small parking lot adjacent to the bakery as well as a few street parking spots. I ordered the mushroom savory tart, banana bread, pumpkin spice bread and spiced brandy pear and walnut coffee cake. They were all phenomenal (especially after warming them in the microwave for 5 seconds). They tasted fresh, buttery and soft though sadly the pumpkin spice loaf didn't stay soft for long the next day so it's best to eat on the day of. The matcha latte with oat milk I ordered was a bit bland and I felt like I was drinking hot milk though I'm willing to try something else next time I come back. I'll look forward to trying for other treats they'll have on my way to work whenever I'm in the area! read more
The original!! We got 2 mushroom savory tarts/ scones, one of the breakfast croissants, one everything croissant, one raspberry brioche and one banana bread pudding. I loved both of the mushroom - would definitely get the mushroom Gruyère tart again. The raspberry brioche was also great - great flavor and not too sweet. The everything croissant comes with a cream in the middle and also caramelized onion. It had dill as well, which I'm not a big fan of. The banana bread pudding was pretty solid. These guys don't just make top tier artisan products, they also come up with great creative combos for their quiche bites, morning buns, flavored croissants, kouign amann, etc. The line may look a little daunting sometimes. But once you get close to the display case you know you made the right decision. Always something different and memorable. Like to come more often but don't live in SF. read more

Visited SF for a short trip and had to make a stop here. Did not disappoint. All their items were so extremely fresh and you could smell it right when you enter. Staff also super friendly & helpful as it was our first time there. I can see how this would be a great local gem but even for visitors. Hope i can come back again one day read more

Passed by Jane the Baker a few times and always noticed the line out the door so mom and I made a mental note to try it. On the day we went, it took us about 40 minutes to get in and out which is definitely a little longer than desired but at least there's delicious baked goods at the end! We tried a variety of items but my favorite was probably the polenta olive bread. It was a delicious and I loved how the green olives and polenta cubes speckled the bread - how unique! My second favorite were the scones - specifically the gouda mushroom scone. Yep, you read that right! It was a delicious savory twist that I would gladly indulge in again. For sweets, I liked the strawberry, pistachio, and chocolate coffee cake best. It was so moist and not very sweet which was a perfect accompaniment to a smooth dark hot cup of coffee. I did feel like some of the other sweet choices we had (cannoli kouign amann and nutella brioche) were a little too sweet for my personal preference. Each pastry was approximately $4 which is about average to other bakeshops. All in all, Jane's is definitely better than average and definitely good enough to join my rotation of places to get baked treats! read more
I was really struggling to give a 4 or a 5-star rating on this place but there it is folks! Coming here was such a nice little treat. They have so many goodies here that I had to try a little of everything. All I know is that everything I tasted, I liked. What I Liked: - The Cardamon Lattice Bun was good. I can taste the cardamon and the sweetness level was like perfect. I would come back for this. - The Chocolate Strawberry Pistachio Coffee Cake was also delicious. I got this for my hubby and we ate it all up! Again, not too sweet. - The Vanilla Raspberry Brioche was also not too sweet and I didn't feel so bad for eating it because the raspberries were like fresh! - They have a separate section for you coffee lovers! - They have an outdoor seating area. - Friendly service! NOTE: You may want to get here a little early because I have a feeling this place will sell out of their goodies by the early afternoon. read more
Lot of good sweet and savory options, got the mushroom tart and spicy sausage! Mushroom tart was good, had cheese but got a little too tart-y/sour after digging in. Definitely want to come back and try some of the sweet options like the morning bun or croissants. Had a line but moved relatively quick. Also is a short walk from Alta Plaza so recommend going there to enjoy your pastries in the park :) read more

Love all the baked goods and food from this gem. Perfectly flaky croissants and delicious sandwiches. They have a cold area with salads to go as well and the granola they sell is also delicious. Service is good and the line moves quickly. Clean interiors. read more

Another Jane run, it's been a while but I was craving a specific cookie. They didn't end up having it so went with the Gingersnap cookie which was really chewy and had chunks of ginger chews inside if that's your jam. Of course got the banana bread bc it's always solid. Got the cauliflower sandwich which I haven't had in a while which was really good. The bread was fantastic. The cranberry coffee cake was a bit dry for my liking but not Terrible. read more

Unfortunately by the time I went, it was later in the day (close to closing) so they were pretty much out of everything... but I did manage to snag these sprinkle cookies which really hit the spot for childhood nostalgia! It was soft and just the right amount of sweetness! All I can say is I wish I was there earlier so I could try all their baked goods! I would love to come by again when I'm in the area! Their parking lot was pretty small, so I'm not sure how it is normally since I was there in the late afternoon. But it seems like it has a pretty fast turnover since most people just pick up and go! read more

Early-ish mornings No lines, quick service The slowdown is due to the overwhelming selection of goods that greet you which leave you frozen in indecision. The savory pastry selection here was the most impressive we have seen anywhere. Most pastries are priced at $5.50 each. Best items we got were: mushroom and gruyere scone, brunch croissant, mushroom tart Staff were friendly, drip coffee was decent. Really impressive bread selection as well, didn't have enough stomach space so will have to return to try many more items! read more

My happy place. I've never had anything that didn't surpass expectations. My favorites are the pistachio matcha coffee cake and the cherry galette. I always get a brewed coffee to create the perfect pairing to take to the playground across the street so my kid can play while savor every crumb. His pick is the Nutella brioche read more
