My fiancé and I visited Javan on Saturday, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. We started by sharing the Ash Joe soup (herbs, legumes, veggies, etc. - amazing), and for the main course, my fiancé had the Beyond Meat Vegan Kobideh with rice, while I had the whitefish with veggies and rice. My fish was so flavorful and perfectly cooked and my fiancé was also so impressed with his dish. We have never seen Vegan Kobideh at any other restaurant! It was phenomenal. I paired my meal with a glass of Cabernet, and my fiancé had a delicious dirty martini. We also ordered the Masto' Khiar yogurt sauce to have with the complementary bread, which was a perfect addition. Everything we tried was a 10/10 (seriously). What made our visit even more special, though, was the warm and engaging service. Our server, along with Alex, the owner, made us feel so welcome. The ingredients symbolize prosperity and health. Pomegranates and walnuts are super foods too with antioxidants and healing properties. Not only is this one of the most delicious and decadent things I've ever eaten, I felt great after eating it too. While I can't help but compare it in my mind to Raffi's place, I actually really enjoyed my dinner here. I came with a large group, and while I wish we had done family style (which seems to be the way to go), we got our individual dishes. The beef koobideh was awesome and the rice was fluffy and wonderful. The only downside I felt was the slow service we got that night- while folks were quite friendly, it took over 30 minutes before our orders were taken and then for the food to come out. Came back for holiday dinner with friends. I am not in West LA as often, hence it being a while since my last visit. Had a lovely dinner, and ended up speaking with one of the family members who was involved back in the 90's and now is back again. The team takes such pride in the food, explaining that many dishes are prepared over hours to really let the flavors meld, and they don't use shortcuts that others do to speed the process. Came for the koobideh. Stayed for the boneless chicken kabob, the albaloo polo, and the shirin polo. I do not say this lightly. My meal at Javan was phenomenal. Let's get to the good stuff. First, the service was fantastic. Our server was warm, friendly, and very accommodating. I couldn't decide between upgrading my rice to albaloo polo, or shirin polo. He was quick to recommend going half and half. Boom. Best of both worlds. The restaurant itself also has fine, elegant, Persian flare. I'm marrying into a big, Persian family. And I know they'd appreciate the details inside. But most importantly, the food was incredible. Dare I say that this was the most juicy, perfectly cooked koobideh that I've had? It's a lovely restaurant inside and the staff was friendly. I ordered the lamb shank and also a side of chicken kobideh. The chicken was prepared well and just smaller pieces. The lamb shank itself was cooked well. But didn't enjoy the lamb soup/stew as it tasted on the sweeter side. I personally have never had it taste sweet so I'm not sure if it was the dish I ordered or if that's just how they make it. I'd give their other dishes a try. read more

There were so many options to go with various lamb shank dishes. Our waiter helped my 85 year old dad choose one. I opted for the salmon. The portion sizes were large. Each dish was delicious. Finally, I found a go-to Persian restaurant. It is very far from our home, but well worth the drive. Parking is easy to find, but most street spots near the restaurant have a 2-hour parking limit. The interior is very clean, light and happy. I loved the tiny vases with natural flowers in them. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He could even speak a couple of words in Persian and had good information about the menu items for those who are not familiar with Persian cuisine. As for food, we both ordered Barg Kabob. Excellent quality and great authentic taste. Portions were generous, so we had to ask for boxes to take the rest home. For dessert we ordered Zoolbia, Bamiyeh, and Persian tea.
