Visited with family yesterday. What's better to eat than Shabu on a rainy day. huge disappointment. Several server was working but only one seems actively working. Our meal came out but didn't have utensils, plates, etc. asked for it and came back with 3 despite we have part of 5. One of the family member kept saying he feels there is water drop, towards the halft through the meal notices a huge water puddle to left of his seat, water leaking. Told the staff, response we got was 'hmmmmm interesting!' And came back with few napkins asking us to wipe the puddled area. Shocked how they handled it. In decent restaurant, they would have manager come out and offer a decent sincere apology, asking how we are due to this, offering a move to another table, plus some sort of meal discount. None of that. Seriously what if it wasn't a water? Something dangerous? Shame, food is good but won't be going back due to this incident! read more

If you like hot pot then you can't go wrong with Jazz Cat so glad that another one opened up in the area since the original location on Valley Blvd in San Gabriel is always packed. I prefer this location over the other one due to seating. The one in San Gabriel tried to make use of space and has a few awkward seating areas for 2 people, some you're faced to a wall others you're super close to another table. The food wise tastes the same. You choose your broth and the type of meat. You can choose the regular or t-rex. T-rex is the option with less veggies and more meat. Afterwards, you choose your 2 dipping sauces. I normally do the regular beef with the Chinese herbal broth with ponzu and sesame as my dipping sauce. If you prefer a bit more flavor then you can't go wrong with the seafood essence broth. The drinks here are also pretty up to par with tea places but it's hit or miss on the boba. I use to love going to eat at Jazz Cat for their delicious soup broths. Today I finally had a chance to go back since the pandemic and I think it has definitely gone downhill. I had the miso soup with ribeye sliced beef and an order of fish, fried tofu, and spam on the side. Everything was ok except for the sliced ribeye. It was so chewy and it didn't melt in your mouth at all. I remember the beef being tender and delicious. I really hope Jazz Cat purchases their beef elsewhere because they will start losing customers if they continue serving chewy beef. read more

Jazz cat is the perfect name for this place! Kinda hidden but not really hidden depending on where you park. We arrived here around 2pm so we really weren't sure what to expect. Once we walked in we were greeted by the waitress who immediately seated us. I'm not sure if we were early or late because it seemed like we were the only ones there besides the waitress and the cooks. We were seated at a booth which was comfortable and spacious. The waitress bought the menu after that she quickly got our drink order something I can appreciate. Unsweetened green tea is what we order and water. When the waitress returned she began to take our food order I wasn't sure what to get since this was first time having shabu shabu. I explained what I was looking for since I'm currently doing keto. The waitress suggested that I get the premium beef with the Japanese curry, I added an egg and beef balls accompanied by miso dipping sauce. We also ordered creamy miso with quail eggs and a side of chicken wings. The wings arrived first and let me tell you these are some of the best chicken wing I've had in a while. Every bite was flavorful and seasoned well. Next the Japanese curry and the creamy miso got to the table. All my ingredients were added to the bowl and I watched it come to a boil. The premium beef was soft and tender and tasted really good the Japanese curry broth tho could've been a little bit more flavorful that's my only complaint. We had high hopes for this cool hot pot restaurant! The decor is awesome with cool jazz cats and high back comfortable booths. The service was friendly and attentive though they did bring us a non - organic veggie plate when we ordered (and only came here for!!!) the Organic veggie plate! Good thing we asked... but we did have to change out our broth that we put the veggies in already to avoid all the extras.. After we asked for things to be exchanged no one came back to check on us again. It took forever to get our check and we were waiting and looking around for a while. The kelp broth tastes flavorful but it is waay too sweet and salty. The seafood combo consisted of white fish, 4 shrimp , calamari strips and a tiny piece of scallop. The fish was good but everything else was average except for the scallop which was inedible and had to be discarded. Writing this review I have a very sweet and sour unpleasant taste in my mouth. :( Surprised by the rave reviews, the quality of the food doesn't match the price by far. This is my favorite hot pot place. I really like the Seafood essence with the satay sesame sauce. I find that combination to be the most flavorful. I have tried the Taiwanese Satay soup and dipping and I find them extremely oily. You have multiple options of meat but I recommend the lamb or the beef only. There is also an option of T-Rex of which I wouldn't skip. For the price you are paying, I think more meat is better. You will most definitely be leaving full here. Service is great and the food rolls out quickly. You can always ask to try different sauces and you're not just limited to one or two. There is many combinations of meat and soups to choose from, such as spicy, seafood, herbal, milk base, etc. On cold days, there can be a wait and sometimes for dinner, the wait can be over an hour. I came here at 5:30 pm and had to check in electronic on a tablet in the front. Even though I did this I was seated immediately with no wait time. I ordered the t-rex ribeye which is basically more meat and less veggies. It's a good portion and can fill me up. I also got a small seafood combo for 5 dollars extra which was 3 shrimps and some fish filet. For my soup I got Taiwanese spicy. For my sauce I picked spicy bean curd and tried a new one which was Japanese spicy sesame which was really great. I absolutely love it here because you totally personalize your own meal and everyone in your party can have whatever they want. Customized meals for each individual is great so everyone can be satisfied. The place is clean and the service is decent. Only problem I had today was that we were seated all the way in the back so I felt we weren't checked on as often because my water was empty for a long time. Besides that the servers did check to see if I needed more broth. So broth was filled but not water lol. Came here to grab lunch on a Friday. Walked in and was told it was a 10 minute wait. The restaurant seemed pretty empty but maybe they were understaffed and couldn't accommodate more people. Understandable. The person up front disappears for 20 minutes and when we go look for her she yells that the table is getting ready and she will let us know when. Waited another 10 minutes at the front with no one in sight. Just left after that. If you want to actually be seated and eat, go elsewhere. Super excited that I finally got to try Jazz Cat Restaurant. I had friends raving about this restaurant. And Yay! I am a fan. The broths that we all got were pretty decent. The tomato soup tasted like fresh tomatoes. The pork bone was tasty and flavorful. The Thai Spicy was A-OK. I felt there was something missing. I wasn't really a fan of their dipping sauces for the hot pot. We got a couple just to try. None of them hit the spot and I am a sauce-y type of person. The meat was really high quality. The portions were on the smaller side. But good if you want a meal that is the right portion. The fries were yummy and crunchy. This is by far the best Jazz Cat in all the land. I have been a huge fan of Jazz Cat for years. At one point in time I was going to eat at Jazz Cat 2-3 a week for months. I have got to say I've been to all their locations but this one has got to be the one with the best soup base taste, fresh vegetables, great tasting beef selection with low fat pieces, and the most attentive staff. I was so pleased to have this place reopen for dine in once phase two of COVID-19 was possible. There are so many different soup bases to choose from and they are carefully categorized on their menu. At other locations often times the soup base is too salty or fatty but this place makes it just right. I come specifically to Jazz Cat for their Seafood Essence. It's the only soup base I've ever ordered and biggest reason why I come to eat here--they make this soup the most tasty at this location. The customer service is superb. They are quick and efficient. The staff is so observant. There has been very little times that I have to ask for a refill for water or more soup base. I am so impressed with how well they are organized and offer great customer service. I like to eat low and slow therefore like my heat on low most of the time but find myself adjusting it here and there depending on what vegetable or meat I throw in my own individual pot. I like how there's not only the temperature adjustable knobs at the end of the table but also touch buttons on the actual burner itself making it so easy to adjust the temperature. I was surprised how hard to mess up the order. We ordered only 3 basic combos, and the restaurant was not that busy. We ordered the Vermicelli ($1 extra per the menu)to go with the combo, and they brought us rice, so I told them we ordered vermicelli, not the rice. The waiter asked if we are okay to have the rice too. I thought the waiter mean to charge us a small rice, so I said okay. Then they brought us the vermicelli after. I didn't know that vermicelli they served was a side order and the price $5.50. So I ended up paying extra for their "mistake". read more

The music played is kinda loud but not overwhelming. In the restrooms the music is loud. Staff is nice and they are pretty fast. Good selection of choices shabu shabu style or you can order other dishes. I got the premium beef T. rex (which is the same price as regular but you get more meat less vegetables) with the Japanese Miso soup base and the Japanese sesame sauce all was yummy. I normally order the Premium Beef with Spicy Miso, Golden Fish Balls (Appetizer; must get - it's like popcorn chicken but a fish ball stuffed with roe) and a couple sauces for dipping. Jazz Cat has to be one of my favorite hot pot places to go to. Although it has been open for nearly a year or so now, the place still look very nicely put together and very nice. It is more spacious and can accommodate for those large parties that the other locations can't really handle. The atmosphere is very nice. The amount of food that they give you is definitely worth the price compared to other hot pot places I am never able to finish a full pot and all the items that they give you. My go to soup base is the Korean Kimchi. Sometimes the soup can be a hit or miss depending on how spicy it is, but if you are not happy with your soup base, they are happy to switch it for you. You are also able to choose whether or not you want more meat (T-Rex) or more vegetables (Regular). The good thing about it is that they are the same price for both! (My recommended sauce is the ponzu sauce, but there are a large variety of sauces. The menu says you can only choose one sauce, but you can definitely ask for more than one. Jazz Cat will always satisfy my hot pot craving in any weather. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time with some friends and it was really good. I like how there's a massive combinations of entrees, broths, and sauces available. Major plus that you can opt for a T-Rex option that gives you more meat that vegetables. I got the Spicy Pork Bone Broth with T-Rex meat option and Japanese sesame dipping sauce. It was a pretty good combo and I'd probably get it again! Minus one star for the wait/wait handling though. Upon coming to the restaurant, there was a gaggle of people blocking the door so it was hassle to check in. Having to navigate through a crowd blocking the only hallway/exit after dinner was also annoying (and a fire hazard :P) it would probably be good to have someone in the front making sure people to block the way. The experience was overall good, but I wouldn't rush back due to the wait time. I highly suggest using Yelp prior to get on the wait list, or else you'll have to fight a crowd blocking the entrance to sign in. read more

Went early at about 5:30pm on a weekday and it was like a ghost town. By the time we left. Almost every seat was taken. Also love that yelp tells you estimated wait time. Every restaurant should incorporate that. It's genius, pure genius! Went with the spicy seafood essence and the spicy pork bone broth. Both delicious on our cold rainy Southern California winter night. Opted for T-Rex option for more meat cuz that's the only way to go. Service was attentive and on it for broth refills. ICYMI, Jazz Cat now has a location in Arcadia and it's pretty spectacular! I've visited this location twice already and am a little blown away with their bigger space and stylish interior. What's different compared to the San Gabriel location is how this place is not as crowded and they only have extremely huge booths. It's definitely the ideal place to grab a hearty and warm meal with a large group of friends. They also have booths for couples but I suggest not taking someone here on the first date just because the tables are abnormally ginormous and it might be hard to talk across the table (hint hint). Jazz Cat is known for their shabu shabu and hotpot fusion where you pick your protein, broth and two sauces. They have a wide selection of broths and sauces to choose from sot here's definitely something for anyone. My go-to is usually their spicy tomato and premium kelp with chicken. Those two broths are on the lighter side but the tomato may be on the saltier side for some people. Also for meat lovers out there, Jazz Cat offers a "T-Rex" option where you can get 50% more meat and less meat for the same price. I usually get their premium chicken hot pot, which comes to $15 without tax and tip. My latest discovery and ultimate new favorite is their soy milk and miso broth. When I ordered the soy milk and miso broth, the waiter was a little surprised since no one really orders that broth. BUT... #DareToBeDifferent because it tasted amazing and complimented well with my chicken. The broth tastes exactly how the combination sounds and I found it to be quite flavorful. It also had a great milk and soup ratio (sounds weird but it's true). My boyfriend also had a couple of spoonfuls of it and might consider ordering it for his next visit. Jazz Cat also has may other appetizer and food options for those who aren't in the mood for hot pot. Service has been quick during my two visits. I'm so glad that there's a closer jazz cat near my house now! Now I don't have to make a trip to San Gabriel to get my fix. This location has taken over the din tai Fung next to the bank. Parking: there's a huge lot in the back that is shared with the bank. But make sure you're not parking on the designated bank spot or else the security guard will chase you down. Wait: Based on my two encounters here, I never had to wait to be seated. However, both visits were on the weekdays. This location seems a lot more spacious than the San Gabriel location, so I can imagine the wait not being too long compared to San Gabriel. Food: the hot pot is very consistent with the Rowland heights and San Gabriel location! Menu is the same which is good. I always get their seafood essence or spicy seafood essence t-Rex (to get 50% more meat). For sauces - even though the menu says one sauce, the servers are usually nice enough to let you get two. If you love flavor in your soup, ask for garlic and green onions! Also for appetizer, I'd recommend their golden fish balls! You won't regret it. Price: Price here is very reasonable! The restaurant was also blasting AC when we went in in January, maybe it is a way to tell customer to hurry up? (It used to be where Din Tai Fung was) Pretty much nothing has changed, compared to the other locations, because the T-rex deal is the same and always great bang for your buck! But the cute thing that is different is that they have cute little kitty pots now! Still love the fact that you can customize your soup base, sauces, and protein. Everything tasted great. Service was a bit frazzled since we arrived during busy lunch hour. A nice surprise to our visit was we saw Emery Huang from Fresh Off the Boat (aka Forrest Wheeler). When I first tried Jazzcat at their OG location on Valley, I didn't understand/see the hype. I thought it was okay - I was a staunch boiling point fan. After trying JC at their new location (old Din Tai Fung space), I get the appeal. I ended up coming here because Mokkoji doesn't have pork (at least not the Arcadia location) and I wasn't feeling Boiling Point. Plus, they're open ALL day - no break between lunch & dinner service so you can come for a late lunch/early dinner no problem (again, unlike Mokkoji). I was a little overwhelmed by their selection of soup bases, but I went with the Spicy Pork Bone broth that was DELICIOUS - good amount of heat. I wish we could get multiple sauces - you just get one. I went with the Japanese sesame. Their version is a tad sweet. If you get T-Rex (50% more meat & less veggies), note that the assortment of veggies is also different. My non-t-rex had bok choy, another fish ball, taiwanese tempura (tian bu la) and broccoli that the T-rex didn't have. Service was fine - not as horrendous as my fellow yelpers experiences! My only complaints: *The hokkaido milk tea - don't waste $5 on this. nowhere near as good as BP's *I don't know why but when I walked in, I thought the place smelled like Petco/a hamster cage. I love hot pot. It's one of my top 5 favorite foods. Jazz cat never disappoints. I always get the beef with the pork bone soup! There's something different when you cook the vegetables and meat at the table as opposed to boiling point when it comes out already cooked. Don't get me wrong, I still love boiling point. However, I can definitely taste the difference when it's cooked right in front of you. The freshness is a noticeable difference.
