Jazz Cat will always be a favorite, but this is my first time at the Arcadia location since the SG one closed down. You can find parking in the back lot. The place gets busy as I had to wait about 10 minutes even at 3pm on a Sunday. For my order, I always get the Beef T-Rex style ($18.89) with Spicy Seafood Essence broth and Spicy Sesame sauce. It's my absolute favorite, but I'd also recommend the Japanese Miso and Taiwanese Spicy. It can be intimidating because they have so many broth flavors to choose from, but also love that they do too! It cost about $21 for the hotpot itself and another $11 for the fried golden fishballs. We both got the t-Rex beef (I personally recommend since it comes with vegetables anyway and this way you get more beef too) and then can have your choice of broth! And then a side of sauce as well. The golden fishballs are one of my all time favorite with fish roe inside - although this time they weren't as hot and fresh as they normally are? I've come here a couple times with my college friends who are locals to TC. They SWEAR by this spot. Both of the times I've gone, it was pretty empty and we were seated super quickly. The interior is really dark and the booths are huge and tall! Yet it feels a little intimate. The first time I went, it didn't have the AYCE option yet which I usually prefer because of the value and it was okay. When I came back my second time for the AYCE, we had two young servers who gave us AMAZING service. They were super attentive and came back frequently to take our order. My order is usually Japanese spicy miso or regular miso, thai spicy sauce, beef or lamb, and vermicelli noodle. My husband brought up that their rice is dry, and I tried it, and it is true. Sadly the San Gabriel location has closed - it was the location that was more intimate with their Jazz music playlist. So, I had to opt for this location which was closer to me. No problemo though, because Jazz Cat has always been consistent. I was a little hesitant reading the recent reviews about how the quality just wasn't the same, but you totally have to go and judge for yourself. My go-to has always been the T-Rex Beef with Spicy Seafood Essence soup and Japanese Spicy Sesame dipping sauce. Seriously did not disappoint! It's like falling in love with Jazz Cat all over again. The price has gone up but understandable given the situation we all have been through. Their customer service was excellent as usual. The servers kept coming back to ask if we needed more soup and water. I love to order the Golden Fish Balls as an appetizer and it always hits the spot! Don't forget to also ask for garlic, green onions and cilantro - always a must! What I did notice was that their drinks menu were gone? I was going to ask the server but completely forgot until now, lol. Wow!! Jazz Cat has really gone down in terms of quality. I arrived Monday night and was the last person to join the waitlist (party of 2) at around 8:50pm. We were super grateful that we were still able to get on the waitlist as there were a few parties that came after us that were turned away. I was surprised that there was a wait on a Monday night, and we waited about 30 minutes before getting seated. They're definitely understaffed so the whole process (getting our menus, waters, ordering) took a long time. I ordered the T-rex Beef with lavender milk soup base and sesame dipping sauce. Wow- everything was so subpar. The beef was extremely chewy and not tender. The soup base tasted definitely weird. And the sesame dipping sauce had a burnt taste to it- not the usual sesame dipping sauce I'm used to. They also got our order wrong and gave us one of our orders as regular and not T-rex (but we didn't mention it since we were already feeling rushed). They handed us the bill just 5 minutes after giving us our food and asked us to pay and sign the receipt fairly quickly while we were still eating. In general, the service was mediocre to not great. I've been going to both this location as well as the one in Rowland for years and I've always been a satisfied (and happy) customer until tonight. First of all, we walked in and at least THREE employees saw us but did not even acknowledge us at all. The restaurant was half empty and we were the only party waiting at the lobby. Hello? Were we invisible? Not cool. Everything we attempted to order on the drink menu was unavailable. They just barely re-opened for dine in, we get it.... but it was disappointing when the one beer we did ordered turned out to be flat and musky looking with weird foam on top (picture provided). When we informed the waitress our beer tasted and looked funny, she said" Well that's how it's supposed to look like." Ummm no.... She exchanged it for another (flat) beer. So...I ordered the Creamy Corn soup base, which was my usual favorite at Jazz Cat, until now. My soup was tasteless. Wait, maybe not entirely tasteless since it tasted burnt, but it just did NOT taste the same. As for the meat? I ordered the T-Rex ribeye and the only thing I was trying to literally rip apart with my teeth was the chewy meat. I got the coconut milk which was great and the Chinese herb with kelp was good. The angus meat is nice quality for the price and the veggies include Napa cabbage, squash, noodles, onion. For two people the bill is usually $50-$60 with tax n tip. If you're hungry you may need to order an extra plate of meat to share. The service is quick and kind. Inside it's all booth seating so it's private and spacious which is nice. You can put your name in line on the Yelp waitlist. They share parking with a bank so there's usually enough spots at dinner time. They have lunch specials for under $20. Beef short was fatty and the angus beef rather chewy, but the main gripe is with service which started strong and then petered off even though the restaurant wasn't even half full. Initially, the servers would take our new orders as they clear the empty plates or just walk by down the aisle. We were seated in the middle so plenty of foot traffic, but it didn't make much of a difference because after a while, they just grab the plates and make a quick escape or walk quickly past your table without so much as a glance at you. Parking was quite easy in the plaza and the wait on that Sunday evening was about 30 minutes after checking in on the kiosk which was not too bad. The broth was super flavorful and not too spicy which I liked and the dipping sauce was nothing special but a good compliment. This place serves individual hot pots with cat ears and paws shapes attached to the edges of the pots. They have a wide selection of soup base options. I like that they have version of called T-Rex. This means there's more meat and less vegetables in our order. We order our choice of sauce along with the hot pot. I like that they have spicy preserved bean burd sauce. It would be better if they let us get our sauce and refill it. I asked the server to get me green onion when I saw him scooping it for someone else. I've also enjoyed the seafood essence, and Japanese miso soups! Sometimes I order instant ramen or golden fish ball with roe on the side as well. Located right next to a bank with a large parking lot, even at peak dining times, you will never have an issue finding a spot. As far as the food goes, I will compare it to Boiling Point and say that I MUCH prefer Jazz Cat even though it's more expensive. You get much more space and sit comfortably here compared to BP, and overall I find the flavor to be just as good if not better. I always get the Spicy Miso broth and Angus Beef T-Rex, along with an order of their Popcorn Chicken (which is really a hit and miss item) and it leaves me perfectly satisfied. We also asked if they can do 2 separate bills as if there was 2 tables for 8 people for all you can eat and 1 table of 4 regular; which the manager refused and I believe the manager refused because he's just trying to get more money out of us for no reason. The overall experience was not what i recalled at the other locations. The restaurant was not super busy (there were several empty tables) and it looked like there was amount of staff. The music was muffled and with the overall moody/dim light just made the overall experience worse. For the amount we paid, it would have been better if we went to another hot pot place. We have gotten Boiling Point to go and they pack everything well and the food is already cooked. But Jazz Cat packs the raw meat, raw veggies and two things of soup separately. So we got home and had to microwave everything a bunch of time to get it hot enough to cook. Food tasted ok, but it wasn't the best experience. I guess its good if you have your own pots at home and can cook it yourself. I get that its the hot pot experience if you eat there, but they gotta come up with a better way for take out.
