We get breakfast at Joe's every time we visit our son in Austin. There's always a wait and the lobby is small, so you wait outside until they text you to let you know your table is ready. Because it's so busy, it's pretty loud, but you can still hear conversations at your table. Our tacos were good but the service was just ok.

Stopped by for some pan dulce! Ended up getting a bunch of tacos too for my family. It was a big order and everything was correct! My family loved the tacos and my mom loved the sweet bread! And she's picky lol Also the ambience was on point with a Virgin Mary and signed soccer jersey :) Highly recommend this neighborhood jewel!

Love this place the bacon is amazing and the food is always tasty. I come here every time I'm in town and always leave satisfied. Place is always lively and the staff works quickly to keep everything moving along.

THE BIG: Austin staple and located in East Austin. No reservation, just show up and queue up. Old-Austin decor and private parking lot outside that is alwasy filled up. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with a buddy to try this Austin relic and it did not disappoint. The place was packed! For food, we got their red cake, beans, bacon, five tacos, and coffee. The breakfast tacos are so bomb. I got a chorizo and bacon. Just go with the bacon breakfast tacos. They flour up the bacon so it has an ultra satisfying crunch. Top that with the eggs and flour tortilla and it has me drooling for one soon. Coffee is unlimited. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done here was around $60 for the amount of food we got. Very good and I would definitely come back for their bacon breakfast tacos.

We had an early morning airport drop off and decided to try Joes Bakery and Coffee Shop. I read the reviews and saw a lot of comments that the food was very simple and lacked presentation. I like simple breakfasts and don't need presentation. I had sausage and egg tacos and a Taco Mexicano. My wife had the barbacoa breakfast. The tacos were simple and hearty, the star was the salsa which was great. My wife's plate was way too much food, there's a small plate option, next time she's trying that option. The meat was cooked perfectly, beans and potatoes were great too. The homemade flour tortillas tasted so fresh and are worth coming back for. Service, our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. I liked the old school feel of the place. It wasn't busy so we got a chance to take a look at a lot of the old pictures hanging in the restaurant. We'll definitely be back.

A True East Austin Classic That Feels Like Home Joe's Bakery is the kind of place that defines a neighborhood. Family-run, full of history, and always buzzing with locals, it's a spot that feels like a warm hug the moment you walk in. Food: The breakfast tacos are legendary--especially the bacon, egg, potato, and cheese combo on their signature homemade tortillas. The Carne Guisada is rich and comforting, and the Joey Rocha plate is a must if you're hungry and want to try a little bit of everything. And don't sleep on the pan dulce--it's fresh, fluffy, and the perfect sweet finish. Service: The staff here are friendly, fast, and always make you feel like part of the family. Even when it's packed (which it often is), they keep things moving with a smile and genuine warmth. Ambiance: Walking into Joe's is like stepping back in time--in the best way. The vintage diner feel, the old-school booths, and the steady hum of conversation make it feel like a slice of Austin history that's still very much alive. Joe's Bakery is more than just a great place to eat--it's a tradition. Whether you're a longtime local or just passing through, it's a must-visit for a true taste of East Austin.

Pork chop, eggs, potatoes, and flour tortilla.

The pork chop breakfast was tasty and excellent. As was the service. On the down side, a 'package fee' was added to the bill. The order was dine in, not to go. When questioned, the server indicated it covered the cost of utensils, salt, pepper, sugar, and other condiments. This is fraudulent and bogus. Those items are the restaurant's cost of doing business. Raise the cost of the food items instead. Thus is sorta like charging a shipping fee for an in-store purchase.

Joe's is such a popular Mexican restaurant in Austin that's been around for a long time. The last time I came here on a weekend, the wait was so long that we decided to go somewhere else, but this time I just came with one friend, and we were seated instantly. I came with my Mexican friend who was initially skeptical of a Mexican restaurant named Joe's, but she said it was solid and gave her seal of approval. I got the Huevos a la Mexicana plate, and my friend got the Huevos Rancheros. The food was good, even when the presentation was not very appealing, but it overall did not stand out to us. Their house-made flour tortillas, however, were great. We both liked our food, and it would have been a solid four-star review if it weren't for the random fee they charged us. They included a packaging fee on the bill, but we both finished our meals and didn't get anything to go, so we were both perplexed by this fee. Their website says that this fee is for takeout orders, so we probably should have inquired about it. From reading the other reviews, it seems like they often get away with charging other customers this same fee.

I find myself wanting to order from Joes multiple times a week. Their food and breakfast tacos are unmatched. Some of my favorites on rotation are their barbacoa tacos and Joey Rocha plate but I honestly haven't ever been disappointed with anything on the menu. I've been coming here for over 20 years and the service is always consistently homey like I am visiting one of my family members. It's one of those old Austin spots that I hope never changes.

    Migas Con Todo Plate

Joe's Bakery & Coffee Shop in East Austin is a must for anyone craving authentic Tex-Mex breakfast and traditional Mexican pastries. It's family-owned and has been serving up some of the best comfort food in the city for generations. The menu is loaded with an extensive variety of breakfast tacos, each one made fresh and packed with flavor, but the real star is the cheesy migas con todo plate. Don't leave without grabbing a few of their baked goods from the counter! The conchas and empanadas are pure nostalgia. Joe's blends old-school Austin charm with the warmth of a family-run kitchen.

Best brunch I've stopped here twice now based on the recommendation of a friend. They were spot on. Great breakfast eats and friendly service. Fast diner vibes and reasonable prices. If you're in Austin, gotta stop at Joe's.

After years of getting baked good at Joe's, finally had the opportunity to sit in for breakfast on a rainy Sunday before church! Five stars all around, reminding me of home- plenty of parking, great food, and speedy service. Lots of memories at each table/booth- whether you're looking for old sports memorabilia (Kobe featured by the POS) or legitimate Tejano history (see old Governor's proclamations about Joe or photos of officers that served). Can't go wrong when someone pulls out a dollar to put Selena on the jukebox either! Highly recommend both orders we got, the menudo ($8/pint) and the migas con todo ($15). Tasty, served with homemade tortillas, and hope to be back soon to try other options!

Old school diner-esque feel that has been around seemingly forever! Lots of souvenirs and memorabilia throughout. Service is amiable and expedient, they keep things flowing as they can get busy during peak times. On this trip, I tried a variety of tacos including Carne Guisada, Sausage & Egg, and Migas con Todo. The Migas con Todo taco was really solid. I added a little salsa for some extra spice to complete it. The Sausage & Egg was just alright - nothing I'd suggest is a must. The Carne Guisada was the real standout. It is one of the best tacos I've had anywhere even if it's just extremely simple great tortilla, great meat, great flavor. Highly recommend that one!

I love the green soft chairs, the tables, and the chef statue greeting you as you pull in front of the building. He's right there in the window. The bistro honestly takes your breath away. I love it! So in the last two weeks, I've been back exactly four times. My first introduction was the Croissant Scramble with chicken and veggies inside, with the Arnold Palmer. My friend got the Croissant Scramble with brisket. The presentation of the croissants when brought to the table blew me away. It was wrapped up in the cutest paper with the ends twisted. The topic of conversation was how good the croissants were. Before we left, we ordered some delicious cookies. The chocolate chips were yummy. So I went the following day and grabbed some pastries! One in particular was the Pecan Bar. The following week, another friend and I stopped in for the Chicken Pesto Omelet. I like that the fire-roasted bell peppers and onions are cooked, if that's the right word. But l have to tell you, the Mexican Hot Chocolate drink brings on the flavor, as does the ice-cold Mocha. Of course, we got the Pecan Bar for dessert. So yes, I went back yesterday for the Almond Croissant. I know, I know!

When I arrived, I was told the cake wasn't ready and was asked if I could come back the next morning--which obviously didn't work given the timing of the event. As a substitute, they offered me a pre-made cake from their display case and assured me it was chocolate like I originally ordered, just with a chocolate mousse filling. They refunded me $15 to account for the difference, and I felt pressured to accept since I needed something for the dinner that night. Unfortunately, the situation got worse from there. When we cut into the cake, it turned out to be confetti--not chocolate. Then, when we tried to eat it, it was clearly stale, dry, and inedible. No one touched it after the first bites. It completely missed the mark for what was supposed to be a special moment. What's especially frustrating is that I ordered from them last year for the same occasion, and everything went perfectly--that's why I trusted them again. This time, however, it was a complete letdown from start to finish. When I called the next day to request a refund, I asked to speak with a manager but was told that wasn't possible. Instead, I was told I would only be offered a partial refund because I accepted the replacement cake. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and quality here was really disappointing--especially for something as important as a birthday celebration.

I ordered the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict: poached eggs, jalapeño cheddar corn cakes, avocado, tomato & corn salsa (4/5). I liked and enjoyed my breakfast, which was fresh and light.
