We had a fantastic dinner at Jonathan's The Rub! Our server, Yvonne, was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and made great suggestions. I had the chicken fried chicken, and it was absolutely delicious--crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside and the bacon gravy was the best! My husband had the Dr Pepper pork chop, and it was incredible! It was perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with amazing flavor. Best pork chop he's ever had. From the excellent service to the outstanding food, everything about our experience was top-notch. We tried Jonathan's The Rub and, unfortunately, we were not impressed. Sorry! We had high hopes after hearing great things! The appetizer was actually good -- we had the calamari and shrimp. But honestly, how can you go wrong with fried food? The fries were good too, and we enjoyed the wine and espresso. My entrée was the pecan-crusted trout, and this is where things went downhill. I know trout is naturally a thinner fish, so I wasn't expecting a thick filet. The problem was there was way too much seasoning for such a thin piece of fish. It was topped with pecans, cinnamon, and what tasted like sugar or pumpkin pie spice. All I could taste was cinnamon and sweetness. I even tried squeezing lemon over it to balance it out, but there was no saving it. The seasoning completely overpowered the trout. The maple-glazed carrots weren't much better. Several were still too hard to eat, and the ones I could eat tasted like plain carrots with sauce poured over the top rather than actually being cooked in the glaze. I think I managed to eat three. My husband ordered his steak medium rare. One side had beautiful charred grill marks -- conveniently the side facing up -- but the other side barely looked like it had touched the grill. Once he cut into it, it was absolutely not medium rare. In the words of Gordon Ramsay: bloody blue. Service was mediocre. Not terrible, but definitely nothing that made up for the food. Overall, there were a few good things -- the appetizer, fries, wine, and espresso -- but for the price and the reputation, we expected much better. I finally made it out to JTR Bridgeland. I had originally planned to meet up with the Cypress Supper Club, but unfortunately the restaurant double-booked our reservation and our group couldn't be accommodated at the last minute. As anyone who organizes group dinners knows, once a reservation is canceled, it's difficult to get everyone together again. Tonight, we were finally able to meet with a smaller group. I ordered the sea bass, which was served with new potatoes, carrots, and asparagus. Unfortunately, the fish didn't seem to be cooked consistently, and the vegetables lacked flavor and seasoning. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Nutella cheesecake. I also ordered a cappuccino with dessert, but it didn't arrive until we were about two-thirds of the way through eating. Even worse, it was cold. I'm not particularly picky about my coffee, but if I noticed it was cold, it was definitely cold. Overall, the experience was fair. It took quite a while to receive our checks, even after we requested them, despite the restaurant not appearing busy. While my check was correct, other guests experienced issues, and there seemed to be some confusion regarding how the bill should be split. We were never asked beforehand. We also waited more than 45 minutes for a small to-go box and eventually repacked our food ourselves. I've visited two other JTR locations, and both the food and service were noticeably better. Visited this restaurant for lunch with my family. It's a beautiful restaurant with great service. We ordered bruschetta ($12) to share. It was good; would order again. Fish and chips ($18) and Asian salad ($18) looked delicious. Family members seemed to enjoy it. Husband ordered the chicken parm ($20) which came with choice of pasta + sauce. I ordered the Dr. Pepper pork chop ($28). Didn't care for the sauce on the pork chop but the pork chop itself was spectacular. It was better than Perry's Steakhouse pork chop. However, Jonathan's The Rub doesn't give any sides or applesauce with the pork chop. I would order the pork chop again but ask for the sauce on the side. After recently moving to Bridgeland, we knew this place was a must-try. The building is beautiful and everything we had was delicious. We were told the whole concept started with their original burger and the rub they use on it, so that was a definite choice. I ordered the Asian salad and ended up taking home half the salad (and an extra side of the peanut sauce dressing because I practically drank it) and I got the a kids order of chicken and fries. Their chicken is nothing to sleep on since because it most likely is battered in house and to order. There is nothing ordinary about their strips! Also, ask for a side of blue cheese if you get fries. It tastes like a Parmesan mixture that is now a must when we go back. Everything was delicious and the waiter we had was phenomenal. I recently visited Jonathan's The Rub in Bridgeland as part of the Cypress Supper Club, a group that gets together about once a month. Our dinner had actually been rescheduled after a previous booking issue, where the alternative offered was driving to their other location about 30 minutes away. Thankfully, this visit went ahead as planned. There were only five of us dining, which made for a nice, intimate evening. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout most of the meal, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I ordered the bruschetta with mozzarella, chicken Alfredo, a Prosecco, an espresso martini, and Nutella cheesecake for dessert. I also ordered the salmon and Brussels sprouts to-go for my husband. Overall, the food was good, but there were a few misses. My chicken Alfredo was noticeably underseasoned and would have benefited from more flavor. Unfortunately, it took quite a while to get salt and pepper after requesting it, and by the time it arrived, I was over halfway finished with my meal. The biggest challenge of the evening was the wait at the end. After asking for our checks, our table waited approximately 45 minutes before everything was wrapped up. We were also waiting on a to-go box while the rest of our group had already left. It appeared that our waitress may have left for the evening before everything was fully completed, which contributed to the delay. Pricing was on the higher end, though fairly typical for the Bridgeland/Cypress area. My total bill was just under $200 including tip. Overall, I had a good experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, the drinks and dessert were enjoyable, and most of the food was solid. However, the booking mix-up, underseasoned entrée, and lengthy wait to close out the meal kept the experience from being exceptional. I'd be willing to return and give them another try, but there are definitely some service details that could be improved. read more

We happened to see this place one evening after leaving HEB and figured we'd give it a try one day. Unfortunately, we didn't do any research before going on a Friday during happy hour. Immediately upon arrival, we were asked if we had a reservation. The restaurant was practically "full" and the bar was packed, but there were several empty tables that were reserved. We were given the option to be seated on the patio and waited an half hour before being seated. I was a little disappointed because some people after us were offered wait time on standard/bar seating. But I digress. The patio area had direct sunlight for that time of day. Several customers were attempting to shade their eyes/face using various items. I'm guessing someone inside complained about the sunlight and a huge umbrella was used to cover the window. It would have been nice if something like that was offered to the patio guests. We ordered from the happy hour menu: Steak Skewers and Loaded Mashed Potato Balls. For drinks they provided complimentary water and we ordered a whiskey sour and the Tropical Thunder from the happy hour menu as well. Everything was good. We're considering returning for dinner eventually but will keep in mind that we need to make a reservation. read more

We went to Jonathan's the Rub in Bridgeland last minute with our neighbors (party of 6) yesterday. Since it was last minute, there were no reservations available, but we arrived early and sat in the bar as there are 2 larger tables. There is a little flaw in planning the space because half our party had the sun directly in their eyes for about an hour. There was no way to shade the offending windows (door? I'm not sure but some windows had shades) We ate almost completely off the happy hour menu, trying bites of everything. Everything we had was delicious-both specialty drinks and food. The prices were a bit high and while they were trying to make it easy and just have all the food for $8 each-it was inconsistent. For example, the ceviche portion was big enough for 2-3 people for $8, but the bruschetta was just one small slice of bread for $8. Again-everything we tried was very tasty. We ended our night sharing 2 pieces of cheesecake to celebrate a birthday. It was also delicious! The service was good-sometimes the drinks were a little slow but it's a new restaurant and I think that will work out in time. Overall it was a good experience and we'll make a reservation to try the main dining room next time! read more

I then tried the ceviche it was dry, dry, Sahara dry nothing on it, seasoned but not seasoned with good flavors, not good at all!! . This food is far less than expected having been a customer of Jonathan's in the memorial area. I expected it to be chef inspired high end cuisine but it is "cook" level food. Jonathan came out west and lost all his flavor on the trail ride. Jonathan remember that just because you're away from where people's taste buds are more refined that you should still bring the best flavors to represent your Name and Brand. Oh Deary oh my. Not sure if this was a case of a bad apple spoiling the bunch...however... Arrival was a few minutes prior to happy hour ending and bar space was found. The...lovely barkeep lady was none too happy to take the drink and food order for happy hour given the time to spare, having to request a happy hr. menu instead of the standard menu. If you have ever worked industry, you do not begin by telling people "there is only 10 minutes left during happy hour" and present only regular menus. No kidding. That's like telling Moses he had a time limit to get down the hill. Progression downhill (pun?) as attitude, intonation, and connotation are key for a good barkeep. The beef skewers were amazing. Tender and juicy. Well seasoned. The ceviche saved. Light. Fresh. Well dressed. Clean taste. The shine. The niggle comes down to service. New and popular location. If you did not want to work that night or take happy hour orders...had a bad day...or are hung over at that time of the afternoon...whatever...stay home and call in. Having worked industry... even as a line cook...If it is the last minutes of happy hour...now is your time to shine and make the sale. Then upsell clients by your outstanding service instead of being...shall we say...prickly...uninviting, and ignoring making your clients just get the mediocre bill and leaving. I'm so happy Jonathan's The Rub has made it to Bridgeland! I've been wanting to try their food and finally got the chance to. The interior decor is lovely inside. Everything is clean and aesthetically pleasing! For our appetizers we ordered the Sweet Chili Shrimp and Maryland Crab Cakes. The shrimp really surprised me, I was not expecting them to be so big! When I saw the size I thought they were gonna be full of breading but no, they were large shrimp. The sweet chili sauce is good but very sweet. I would order them again. As for the crab cakes, those were my mom's pick and she wasn't a fan. It tasted like a crab burger. It was a lot of breading and the crab was mixed too much and there wasn't much flavor to them. We also decided to order a small caesar salad to share and we somewhat had an issue with our salad but it was handled. The first salad we received had so much dressing on it. Some people might enjoy that but it was too much for our liking. Our server even noticed it was more than it should've been on there and he got us a new one with no problems. As for the taste it was good and I can tell it was homemade but I don't know it was very heavily mayo based. It was too much of something yet still missing something but I don't know what. I feel like many people would enjoy this salad though so I would still recommend it. For my meal I went with the Double Smashed Burger. The burger was flavorful, juicy and cheesy. Those grilled onions set it off. It was delicious. My only complaint would probably be the sweet bun, i'd prefer one that's not sweet but I know sweet buns are popular with burgers so I don't mind especially since it was so good. I can't forget about the hand cut fries. Those were delicious as well. If there's anything I can recommend is this meal. You can't go wrong with a juicy burger and fries. Hopefully I'll return soon and update my review with a better experience! I still want to try more of their menu items! As for service, my server was pretty busy so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as it's valentines weekend. Had reservations on Saturday. Sat immediately. Ordered drinks and scallop and bacon appetizer. Our appetizer came out before our drinks. Waitress came and asked for our dinner order. I said I guess we should have asked for waters cause our drinks haven't even came. She went and got for us. Just beers. Nothing crazy. Then she brings are drinks and the glasses aren't even full. Like come on already. Appetizer was so tiny for $6 a scallop is crazy. Then dinner comes. Drinks empty ...no water. Asked for both. Finally showed up halfway through dinner. We gave them time to open up and work out the kinks before we went and spent $200 on dinner. Lesson learned. We will go for lunch after shopping at HEB. For that price I want exceptional service and food. Now the steak. Yes good. Nothing I couldn't do at home. Chilean sea bass though was phenomenal. Staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our waitress was just lost. I watched the poor manager take back 3 steaks but prepared correctly. Seen one guy just give it back after the second go around. Judd is the best part of coming to Jonathan's! He is very attentive and provides excellent service. We have been several times now and it is hit or miss on the food and drinks. I have decided that their appetizers and sides are the best and I really enjoyed the parmesan flounder as well after I picked off the peppers. The sauce was amazing although could have had a little more on it. The sweet chili shrimp is amazing and if you get a side or two that completes the meal! Try to be seated in the bar area or the separate room away from the kitchen. You will leave smelling like BBQ if you sit too close. It stays pretty busy on the weekends so a reservation is highly recommended. read more

The food at Jonathan's the rub in Bridgeland is so average. I had the seabass and the fish tasted like it hadn't been properly washed or prepped or maybe it wasn't fresh. I was quite disappointed. I didn't finish my food and when the waiter asked if I wanted it to go I said NO. The seafood pasta also lacked seasoning. I don't know if they are cooking for people that like bland food. Bring your own seasoning when coming here. I wish there was a better upscale option In Bridgeland because Jobathans the rub is NOT IT. The only good thing is the TRES LECHES. Went for dinner and we were impressed. The restaurant looks very elegantly decorated. Had their 16 oz rib eye and it was so tender and flavorful. I accompanied my steak with the garlic mashed potatoes. We decided to get the family size and we didn't expect it to be that hefty. It could easily be shared amongst 5-6 people. My husband had the Caribbean shrimp with the pineapple fried rice and it was delightful. The amount of shrimp you get is not skimpy. The shrimp were nice size and plentiful. My friend had the sea bass and I was surprised with the portion. I'm used to seeing the small portions you get at high end restaurants. We ordered a bottle of Angeline Cabernet Sauvignon which we all enjoyed. We are visiting from California and we leave wishing we had one close to us. We will definitely be returning on our next Texas trip. read more

Jonathan's The Rub initially presented itself as a strong contender, but the second impression reveals a noticeable drop in execution. Service, which previously felt efficient, lost its pace. Not dramatically poor, but inconsistent enough to be felt throughout the experience. The ribeye. previously the expected anchor of the meal. fell short in a critical way. Flavor was nearly absent. The garlic butter, rather than enhancing the dish, felt more like an aesthetic addition than a functional one. Present, but not contributing. There's a difference between subtle seasoning and missing intention. This leaned closer to the latter. The structure of the restaurant experience remains intact, but the core of it, the food no longer supports the pricing or expectation. 3.5/5 and a B-. capable on paper, underwhelming in execution. read more

You can tell everyone is very lost when they are overwhelmed. Will still return, but hopefully they can all work together to improve. Despite it being a Thursday night, every seat in the house was occupied which was great to see and added to the lively atmosphere. My friend and I recently met at Jonathan's The Rub for a weekday lunch. We were seated immediately and our waiter took our drink and appetizer orders very quickly, so the service was excellent. The restaurant was beautiful, as was the decor. The crab cake appetizers were just OK. I'm from Maryland, and they did not come close to the quality of Maryland crab cakes. The fish tacos were horrible - the fish was dry and had a very strong fish flavor and odor, and the flavors of the vegetables included on the tacos did not blend well with each other. I expected much better food for the price, particularly with the hype I've seen on various social media pages. I suspect alternative entrees might be better, but I am not going back. read more
