I can't really do "weekend" things anymore where places are all backed up. LOVED dinner here last night. My kid lives in the West Village and booked a 6PM table before going to a show. We were seated right away by the best host ever. He introduced himself by his name and astrological sign. He told us who our server would be with her name, astro sign, and hometown. The menu was unsuspecting but everything that we tried was simply perfect. And make sure you get the hashbrown as a side. It's awesome! And you wouldn't think of it as a burger joint, but they do make a fantastic brunch burger with english muffin for a bun. Add an over easy egg for a real treat. We sat outside as it was a nice morning but it's particularly cute inside. A really old building with some history that's preserved in the decor. Visited this restaurant on a Friday morning. Easy to get a table for breakfast. Fun interior design with lots of old photos and mirrors. Booths in the back and up a small flight of stairs were spacious and comfortable. Stumptown coffee is served here which is amazing. Joseph Leonard's a classic restaurant in the west village. We went on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, around 130. The wait was about 45 minutes. Luckily it's easy to kill time around there. Food wise - Joseph Leonard's menu is approachable. You can't go wrong with their whitefish, french toast, fried chicken sandwich, or their omelettes. That said, do not skip their country fried bacon. It's deep fried in hot sauce. Joseph Leonard's known for their bloody mary's so if you're into that, get one. Brunch is great at JL, but dinner is also a great option here. They do their vegetables well (ie zucchini), and their trout and burgers are also solid. Their marinated lobster salad is divine... Because it's a small restaurant, it's romantic. Check it out. A perfect West Village cozy spot, perfect for an intimate catchup with a friend or a date night. The small eatery is filled with nooks and crannies that allows for a sense of privacy and comfort. Once we settled in, it was difficult to choose as the menu had so many appealing options. We settled on the simple arugula salad, baked cod and side of zucchini. Each dish had the freshest of ingredients, was cooked perfectly and was quite delicious. I was most surprised the simple arugula salad that was coated in a perfectly delicious, but not overbearing house made dressing. I came for the latter a few weeks ago and we were lucky to grab a table by the door around 9:45 as parties after us had to wait. The room is cozy and old school, with a tin ceiling, weathered wooden tables, and tight seating. The brunch menu is similarly classic, with smoked trout scrambles and avocado toast sharing space with fried chicken and cheeseburgers. Everything is subtly upgraded with fresh produce and excellent technique. I went for the grits and greens ($16), their rich take on a grain bowl with a poached egg on garlicky and buttery grits and sauteed escarole. I ate every bit of this despite the heaviness. My boyfriend had a huevos rancheros with shrimp special that was amazing. Cappuccinos ($4.50) were perfect. Service was good overall; right when we were about to ask after our food (25 minutes) it arrived. So expect a relaxed brunch. Nice decor and vibe. Only one tiny bathroom but cute. I was impressed with my meal here and I'll be back for dinner. If you're looking for West Village charm, you've got it so long as you get here early and can stomach the prices. read more

Oh my god I finally found another restaurant in the Tri-state area that serves a BLOODY CAESAR!!!! Because of that, I love you so, so much Joseph Leonard. Yes my reasons may be material but my love for your beverage is certainly not. What is a Bloody Caesar you ask? Let me put it this way: it's the supermodel sister of the Bloody Mary. This not-so-common brunch cocktail will absolutely rock your taste buds unless you're allergic to clams... which in that case, it will rock your inner intestines. In this wondrous drink you have your typical base spirit and spices but then you add that magical ingredient: clamato. That's right, clam tomato juice. Then for good measure, the rim of the glass is usually lined with Old Bay Seasoning to make it even more addicting. Their version was also served with an oyster on the half-shell on top as well as a bacon-wrapped Brussels sprout. So zesty. So clammy. So freaking good it blows my mind. For my brunch entree, I basically ordered their Eggs Benedict with lobster instead of salmon... which they then charged me $26 for the dish. $8 extra for some claw meat? That seemed like a little too much for the amount of lobster I received on my plate (since come on, I could buy a whole lobster at many restaurants for that much money). Oh well. Although I was a little annoyed with the price, I can't argue with how good it tasted. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The scallion cream on my Benedict blew my mind after it was subsequently blown by my Bloody Caesar! Even the wheat toast with homemade jam was the bomb. Like most popular brunch places in Manhattan, this place can get a little crazy yo. So yeah, for those of you who want a quiet brunch, this is not your scene. What a beautiful, dreamy, gorgeous NYC brunch. I think you get the point. This place is pretty tiny, but they somehow crammed over ten of us by putting some tables together in the back - had the place been busy it wouldn't have worked, but on an early weekday morning it wasn't a problem. Before I knew it, I had a Bailey's and coffee sitting in front of my face, and that thing was good. It had a lot to do with the coffee, too... some of the best I've had in a long time. Our waitress did such a great job keeping up with our group, and her smile never left her face no matter how many bloody marys, Irish coffees, or mimosas were ordered. I had a hard time deciding what to order but ended up going with the egg sandwich with brussels sprouts hash. The egg sandwich itself was perfectly made, with eggs, cheese and bacon on a buttery croissant. The star of the show, however, was the brussels sprouts hash... mostly because it was drizzled with sriracha. Yes, you read that correctly. It was so hearty, satisfying and flavorful & almost erased my hangover from the night before (almost.) The coolest thing about this brunch, though, actually happened in the bathroom (I swear I'm going somewhere with this.) There was this incredible writing on a piece of paper that they had hung up called "Why I Write." I was in awe of this great piece of literature and made a comment to our waitress, who a few minutes later came out with my very own version to take home with me. I brought it home from NYC and it's now proudly tacked up in my home office. The whole experience at JL was pretty special for me, and it's storybook feel is not to be missed. Especially at its high price point. It ruined my experience since I felt like I couldn't enjoy anything. (To me, it wasn't seasoned well enough.) 3. Good cocktails. Joseph Leonard has a solid cocktail program at standard New York prices. 4. Nice service. It's an underwhelming spot that I couldn't differentiate from any other West Village standard. I guess I'm one of the few people that didn't have a great meal at Joseph Leonard. My friend and I are early dinner eaters so we luckily did not have a wait. I went on a hot summer today and this place has no air conditioning. I know they're going for a "rustic" feel but extreme heat will make anyone miserable. Pickles are served on the table instead of bread, which is unique and appreciated. I had the butter lettuce salad with sweet corn, tomato, bacon, and buttermilk vinaigrette. A basic salad. Nothing I couldn't make at home. I also tried the pan roasted chicken with zucchini, tomato, eggplant, and yogurt-garlic sauce. There was something off about this dish. It's very close to Turkish flavors and I love Turkish food. This dish, however, I did not love. The only dessert that sounded appealing to me was the devil's food cake with brandied cherries, chocolate ganache, and whipped cream. I don't even like cherries in my cake. I still gave it a shot though. The cake part itself was dry and flavorless. What a shame. Won't be returning. read more

They do have a small little bench outside so if you get lucky (or don't wanna wander around) it's ok. Came here for brunch on Mother's Day Sunday with a friend. Considering we weren't able to make it home to see our own mothers we wanted to go to a nice, homey place with the home cooked feel. It's more like a place my dad would run with my dad behind the stove but hey, it worked! The service, similar to all Happy Cooking Hospitality restaurants, is awesome from the second you walk in. The decor is rustic and cozy with old black and white pics on the wall. This is a neighborhood spot with a cool bar in the center, lots of natural light and picturesque windows overlooking Waverly Place. We started with house drip coffee and warm, dark banana bread. The bread was smooth and silky. We had the special of the day which was a crispy porkbelly sandwich on a warm toasted bread topped with pickled slaw and house-made aioli. This was sooo good I can still taste it. Wish I hadn't shared it! The other dishes we had are: -Avocado Toast w shallot butter on multigrain bread topped with a perfect poached egg. -Eggs Sardou on artichokes with spinach and hollandaise sauce. -Burger w English cheddar, bacon, garlic aioli and frites. I didn't taste this but my cousin said it was great. Our sides were an incredible hashbrown, spicy brussel sprouts and thick cut bacon. I came here with a friend on Saturday afternoon around 1pm for brunch. We had put our name in but the restaurant ended up seating another party with our same name instead of us accidentally. We had to wait an additional maybe 30 minutes, but the host was nice enough to bring us both mimosas to apologize. The restaurant itself is very small but homey, however it was pretty loud and it felt like we were yelling a lot of the time. We ended up being seated at the bar which wasn't bad, and the bartenders were all super friendly. We both ordered the Lacinato Kale and Farro which came with poached eggs, and this fish was wonderful. The eggs were perfectly cooked and everything went together very well. Had a wonderful brunch here! When I arrived for a Saturday morning brunch, two girls before me asked for a group table and was told it'd be a 45 minutes wait. Thankfully a table for 2 was just a 5 minutes wait. Phew! The space is small and intimate and the food was phenomenal. My own hesitation was the saussion. The eggs benedict were perfectly done, not too runny, the way I like it. I had bar seats in front of the kitchen and the chef was incredibly friendly giving my friend and I tips on how to make good hollandaise sauce. He even gave us complimentary country fried bacons, which are possibly the best bacon I've had. It a had a good balance of sweet, spicy and savory all in one bite. I dub this place my new brunch spot. The service is FANTASTIC! The waitresses are so nice and thoughtful. My husband had a cold and our waitress brought over hot tea with lemon and honey.
