And when I sat down I saw other table people were still eating rice roll and people who came after were still able to order rice roll for togo. Not bad, especially the wonton (which here based on my palette seemed to emphasize pork more than shrimp in its content). Interior is nothing fancy. However, service can be mixed, that's why I can't give it a higher rating. The first time I came I was seated at the rear table and really had to make an effort to get the staff's attention (seems like only two people work both the register and the tables). Hands down! Best cheung fun in all of San Francisco. We ordered their famous freshly steamed rice rolls to-go. They are only $4.50 each, but you can add extra meat, veggies (lettuce + bean sprouts), egg, and corn for $0.50-$1.00. Totally worth it! I'm vegetarian so I ordered the Special egg and corn rice roll with extra veggies added on. Then we got the shrimp steamed rice roll with egg added on. The only complaint is that I wanted more of their DELICIOUS soy sauce, they only gave us 2 small cup, it wasn't enough because it was just too yummy! Our total was only $11. The restaurant itself is pretty small but there were lots of tables to accommodate family dinners and 2 people tables. Lots of pictures on the menu for those who don't know what to get. I went to this restaurant Sunday around 7pm for dinner and I had the worst experience and I will never return! I feel like everyone should know how they treat their customers! I ate my dinner at the restaurant and after I finished eating I got my bill and I paid WITH tip and I remembered giving her tip since I ALWAYS tip with any order! After I paid and as im walking out the my car the short lady that was serving us comes running outside screaming at me in front of all the people that are waiting to say I didn't leave enough tip. I told her I remembered leaving her tip. So with that being said even though tipping is optional I believe tipping is a courtesy to the people for waiting on you and taking your order. To be yelled at in-front of the whole restaurant is so humiliating and disrespectful! No company should ever treat a paying customer this way. I was so embarrassed and will never return. read more

It's rare to find places that make rice rolls from scratch and I was super intrigued when I found Joyful Kitchen on Yelp. I ordered take out, got the beef roll, the pork roll and the beef chow fun (I really do love me some good rice noodles). The rolls' texture was kinda gummy and mushy, unfortunately, and the sauce they use mixes soy sauce with a bit of vinegar, instead of the sweet soy that I'm used to. To be honest, I don't really like Chinese food, just because my sis likes it, so we decided to come here and This visit was to celebrate we finally got hired after six months unemployed! (Sorry to said that our budget was kind of tight at the moment!) so We could only pay for the food and tipped whatever we could at this point! But the lady there rudely tossed the bill to us and loudly said we needed to tip her more! I strongly agree that tip is a must after receiving a service! But will you tip (a lot) to someone who shows such attitude toward you! Sorry, I won't! The lady in this restaurant actually asked aloud in front of other customers for more tip, (frankly, I think that was extremely rude!) sorry to say but you lose customers because of your attitude, lady! We actually intended to come back next time and tip more when receiving our first paycheck! Now, sorry! We will never come back to this place again!!!! This was what we had experienced in this restaurant, humiliated and disrespected! Their service indeed only worths 1 star, I gave them 2 because their food is kind of better than other Chinese restaurants! Everything about this place is small from the shrimp to the scallops to the general portion size. My family can cook better than this place. If you want good chinese food on ocean go further up the street to ming kee or any ither place than here. My family and i spent 70$on a new year dinner here when we could have went to d n a cafe on clement street and got higher quality higher portions of food at a cheaper price. Anyone who says this place is decent either knows the owner or has never ate any real chinese food. Also they tried to give us to go boxes with sone mysterious liquid in it. Kept on confirming that what we got was what we ordered but what we got had half the ingredients in it. Braised beef wonton soup was very bland, nothing impressive. Quick summary: 1) Don't bother coming here after 10:30, they claim to stop selling noodle rolls after 11, but reality is they run out around 10-10:30! 2) staffs here don't know what they are doing! Full story: As we were waiting, the waitresses completely ignore all the customers that were waiting at the door for their tables. All the staffs looked like they have no experience running a restaurant. They kept being distracted by seated customers shouting for their orders and services; instead of seating other customers to empty tables. When we finally were able to be seated, the customers sitting next to the table stole the empty table and chairs to combine to the table they were using. Waitresses did nothing about that and continued to make us wait. After waiting for over 30 mins, we finally got our table. Knowing that a lot of seated customers were very upset with the long wait for food, we hurried up and ordered our food when being seated. As we sipped our tea to wait for our order to come out, we noticed all the noodle rolls were going to the family that stole our table. About 20 mins later, the waitresses started telling all the incoming customers that there were no more noodle rolls left. We thought our order was fine since they accepted it. However, after waiting for another 30 mins, the older waitress came to our table telling us no more noodle rolls for us too! Yet, we see the young waitress still bringing noodle rolls to that family that stole our table!!! Don't make us wait over an hour and tell us no more food!!!! Place is always busy! The noodle rolls are to die for! They supposedly stop selling it after 11, but most of the time they run out as early as 1030. Their staff is super friendly! We ordered the special rice noodle roll with pork and the porridge with chicken. Both were delicious and large portions. We barely finished it, but were able to take the leftovers home.
