Beef Brisket Over Rice ($10.99) with Chicken Drumstick (additional $2.49)
    Ian A.

Joyness Eating (San Gabriel) is not bad. I ordered the "Beef Brisket Over Rice" ($10.99) with added Chicken Drumstick (additional $2.49). It's cheap, fast eats. (Important Note: Be cautious of the high rating because this location offers a FREE DRINK for a "Google/Yelp Review." I hate these gimmicks, and I refuse. I will attach a photo of this shady gimmick.) I arrived at Joyness Eating (San Gabriel) on Tuesday (around 11:03AM). There's a tiny, cramped front parking lot (about seven spots). However, there's also street parking; sign says, "2 Hour Parking - 6AM to 6PM - Except Sunday." I quickly found street parking. Staff interaction is very minimal. Customers primarily order on the self-service kiosk. Staff briefly appears to bring the food and immediately return in the kitchen. The food was ready in four minutes. Crazy fast!! As mentioned, I ordered the "Beef Brisket Over Rice" ($10.99) with added Chicken Drumstick (additional $2.49). The meal is cheap & filling. Unfortunately, it's not very flavorful nor memorable. It all tastes like a reheated premade bowl from a convenience store. It's a hearty & affordable meal, but the protein has that dry aftertaste. Fortunately, the rice tasted fresh and hot. All in all, it's not bad. On ambiance, Joyness Eating (San Gabriel) is well-maintained. There's about five tables, and the location felt fairly clean. There's a gender neutral restroom, a big bottle of hand sanitizer, restful music, and a self-service water station. It felt comfortable. Overall, I had a forgettable experience at Joyness Eating (San Gabriel). At the very least, the food is very affordable and well-portioned. As mentioned, it's not bad, but it's currently not great. 3.9 out of 5

I found this hidden gem today and thought it was delicious! I got the braised pork flatbread, the braised pork knuckle flatbread, and the pickled fish which comes with rice. All were super flavorful and well spiced. The flatbread was a little bit hard, but still pretty flaky. Service was pretty quick, though I think there's only one person manning the front counter. Still, you can order using the kiosk, which is easier. There's a parking lot and easy street parking

The service is very good, we got the pork elbow over rice and beef brisket over rice both are tasty. The location is convenient across street of Chinese markets .

Great spot. Affordable and tasty food. Walk up and order via the screen. The jiamo another was flaky and soft. The rice was flavorful and the liangpi hit the spot. Honestly super underrated. Good for them!

I discovered this place from IG. It's a great self serve place. You order at the kiosk and your food arrives within minutes. I ordered the beef brisket over rice. The food is fresh and made to order. I made mine slightly spicy which had a nice kick to it. This place feels like places over seas, where you order your food from a kiosk (contactless), then your food is brought out. This place drives a lot of Food delivery services. I saw a number of drivers arrive, pick up their orders and leave promptly. But they do have tables to dine in and enjoy your food.

Got a takeout braised pork rice set from Joyness Eating and it really hit the spot at home. The rice was perfectly cooked and the braised pork was super flavorful--rich, savory, and not too greasy. It paired really well with the sauce and sides in the set, making it feel like a comforting, complete meal even as takeout. Portion size was generous, definitely enough for a satisfying dinner. Even after bringing it home, the food still tasted fresh and warm, which is always a big plus for takeout. Quick pickup, friendly service, and overall great value for what you get. I'll definitely be ordering this again when I want something easy but really comforting.

Great for if you are on the go because they're so fast. The food are delicious with generous portion. Plenty of seats and parking. And to top it off, their rice dish is only around $12. Which is cheaper than most places! Their dishes are more on the spicier side, so order with caution :) The service is fast and friendly, there's a self ordering kiosk too.

solid solid place. from the time i was in the door, to the time i threw away my trash and walked out, 21 minutes passed. you order, and basically get your food in the next two minutes. the whole joint is a fast casual kinda spot, with good food. if i had to describe it in a few words, id say its yo mommas food. really, it tastes like your mom is out back preparing it and there's just something so comforting about that. nothing fancy, no table service, just self serve. food itself tastes great, steaming hot, good flavor, great price. nothing really to complain about. ps i like yo mommas cooking.

Nice food, good environment. Bright and clean. 5 service I will come back again. enjoy the food and time here

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor & outdoor seating available with limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was eating my food in this establishment several months ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they were offering some at the moment. They currently do have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is located behind the restaurant at a local medical building parking lot. It's $1 each 9 minutes with a max of $13. Or you can try to find street parking and walk on over. Food: I ordered a Lychee Martini, Saigon Summer, Mamasan's Shrimp Cake Skewers, Truffle Wok Seared Noodles with Scallop, Slow-Drip Vietnamese Coffee Flan, and Banyan Tree Ice Cream. Before I started ordering, I was immediately given some house made complimentary shrimp chips. I loved how light and airy it was. It also had an amazing crunch. It tasted just like shrimps hahaha. My lychee martini was a crisp, refreshing cocktail that perfectly balances floral sweetness with tart acidity. Order this! The Saigon summer is a spicy, tropical blend of tequila, lime leaf liqueur, agave, butterfly pea infused triplum, and a Thai chili infusion. Not really up my alley, but I'm glad I was able to try it out. I think I dislike anything spicy and super bitter in my drinks. It just tasted odd. Mamasan's shrimp cake skewers features crispy, deep-fried shrimp cakes flavored with kaffir lime and lemongrass. It is served with skewers, charred pineapple, and a sweet garlic chili dip. Definitely get this. It was so crunchy, massive, and mouthwatering. The charred pineapple provided a sour yet sweet taste that helped off set the savory seafood / fishy taste in your mouth. The truffle wok seared noodles with scallop is a dish that combines savory, smoky flavor with luxurious truffle and tender scallops, which bridges the gap between classic Asian stir-fry and Italian comfort food. As a massive sucker for Italian food and all things truffle, this dish was my favorite. The al dente handmade egg noodles were wok-tossed in a rich black truffle sauce with delicious mushrooms, fresh Brussels sprout leaves, and perfectly seared scallops. I loved that I could taste the black truffles. The truffles added a nice rich, earthy, and highly savory flavor with prominent notes roasted nuts. GET THIS DISH!!!!! The slow-drip Vietnamese coffee flan is a silky, rich egg custard infused with bold phin-drip coffee and sweetened condensed milk. It offers a perfect balance of bitter roasted coffee and sweet creamy custard. This dish was super smooth, creamy, and delicious. I loved that Star Leaf added their own twist to this dish by putting a caramel golden cage on top of this already phenomenal tasting dessert. The caramel golden cage gave this flan a nice crunch. This dish wasn't too sweet for me. As a hater of super sweet things, this flan was just right. The banyan tree ice cream was a great way to end the meal. Super refreshing! I got two scoops of Thai tea ice cream and one scoop of the coconut ice cream. Both flavors were fantastic and tasted very creamy. Not too sweet, which is how I like it. Staff: The staff here are very attentive, friendly, welcoming, and polite. Elysha waited on me when I went. She was very attentive, informative, and personable. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum.

For being in a food hall in Glendora, this was a pretty good bowl of bbh. It has rich umami broth though it could have stood for more vermicelli noodles. I was most surprised by the amount of beef tendon. In fact, I asked for a side of fish sauce to dip the tendon lol. On my second visit, I built my own phở bowl ($17.48). You get a choice of 3 meats, so I chose wagyu steak, wagyu eye round, and brisket. I thought the meat quality was great. The broth, on the other hand, was having an off night I think. It had a very strong star anise flavor and the broth could have use a little skimming. And Broth offers a variety of interesting phở variations that I'd like to try. I like that there are so many different Vietnamese dishes umbrella-ed under one establishment. I'll definitely be back.

It's a comfortable spot with padded banquettes or chairs at the tables, which feature chrome frames and (very good-looking) faux marble tops; along with white walls and light-colored wood accents, the owners have created a clean, simple, welcoming environment. The mood is jostled even further into a specific vibe of calmness with the carefully curated music being played: bossa nova covers of pop hits from bygone days (The Bee Gees' "More Than A Woman" and the Bee Gees'-written Streisand hit, "A Woman In Love" being examples), but it all works. The menu offers a varied selection of dishes from several Asian cultures, from Chinese Beef Rolls to Japanese noodles and soups to Korean Beef over rice. It's not a huge menu, but there's definitely enough there for everyone to find something interesting to eat. The food is all cooked in view of the customers by a staff of chefs working in a sparkling clean kitchen enclosed by windows, and the staff is uniformly friendly despite juggling a lunchtime crowd at the tables plus quite a lot of to-go orders. I tried 2 really enjoyable and satisfying dishes. Beef Rolls featured thinly sliced brisket rolled inside crispy fried crepes with scallion, cilantro and a touch of Hoisin sauce. The brisket had a mild but distinctive flavor that spoke of careful preparation, while the slightly astringent pop from the onions and herbs was a nice foil for the inherent fattiness of the fried crepes. The Hoisin sauce was very subtly deployed, lending tasty support without overwhelming everything else. I added some of the house chili oil for a little extra spice and peppery depth, but these well-made rolls were terrific all by themselves. It should also be noted that the portion is very generous, especially for the price ($12.80), and more than enough for 2 people (perhaps 4 people, if each has 1/2). My other dish was the Qinghai Clear Cold Noodle, a terrific-looking, and even better-tasting blend of thick, chewy noodles, fresh chopped garlic, veggies, tofu and chili sauce that's got a bit of heat but more so a pleasing depth of Chinese spices. This appetizer is packed with flavor and just happens to be Vegan (as are a number of menu items), so it can be enjoyed by anyone. All in all, this was a fantastic mid-week lunch that pleased the senses without breaking the bank, and I even brought some home for later. Do give this Noodle St. a try -- and if you're not in Pasadena, check their website, because they have 8 locations, with a 9th opening soon in Sherman Oaks.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the Korean beef. It was way too sweet and didn't really give Korean BBQ flavor. The meat seemed more steamed than grilled, and not even vinegar or chili oil could save it for me. Other than that, everything else was fresh, flavorful, and worth coming back for.

Delightfully understated atmosphere with unique tiles throughout the decor, and we loved that we could hear each other talk and enjoy each other's company. Our server was amazing, she was so knowledgeable while being personable and extremely funny. I assume she's the cook's wife based on the other reviews - I arrived a little after my aunts, so I didn't get a full introduction since they had already secured a table and had ordered some drinks while looking over the menu. I had my eye on 3 different meat dishes - the Roasted Duck Breast, the New Zealand Lamb, and the Angus Beef Ribeye Steak - and my aunts also had each picked 1 of those, so we went family style, and it did not disappoint!! The chef knows how to cook each type of meat to perfection, and the searing pans are doing exactly what they need to be doing! The Roast Duck Breast was AMAZING as cooked to the recommended medium, with delicious crispy skin. The Angus Beef Ribeye Steak at medium rare was as tasty as it was gorgeous! And the New Zealand Lamb was PERFECTION, down to the bone. We also got the gourmet macaroni and cheese as an add-on side, since all the meals come with mashed potatoes and various veggies, and I was in heaven! As someone who used to work at the Disney Parks and frequented the steakhouses and other fine dining both here and in Orlando, Sage Bistro is giving Disney a run for its money when it comes to high-quality meat dishes! The prices reflect both the cut of the meats and the skill of preparation, with it averaging to about $50 each across the 3 of us, which is pretty reasonable for top-tier quality! The only thing I had to be careful about was that many of the dishes have mushrooms, and my throat gets itchy if I eat most mushrooms, so I had to avoid those dishes. During our meal, when I mentioned it to our server for future visits, she was great at noting which dishes could completely be modified to have no mushrooms while also being realistic about acknowledging the dishes that cannot be, which sadly includes the Braised Short Rib that sounds out of this world. But I can have the Beef Rib Soup, so I definitely want to try that next because I WILL BE BACK!!! Seeing the server and an Asian staff coming out from kitchen confirmed that the cooking wasn't fully American taste bud. But that is the reason why it hit me very well. Honestly, whether you have American or fusion or Asian taste bud, the taste quality is better than some average American restaurants. I tried the butter squash soup, lamp chop, and bow tie pasta with chicken. I was enjoying my soup and lamp chop a lot. The pasta was pleasant to me, but it wasn't exceptionally great compared to the lamp chop. My fiancé loved the pasta though, saying that the sauce wasn't overwhelming. It is not a cheap place to come for, but it is because the food and drinks (good white wine) have quality. The wait for the entrees was a little long, even though it wasn't that busy. I believe it was the chef spending time to make sure each dish was done well, unlike the busy restaurant where chefs only follow the restaurant's recipes to make it quick and easy. Lastly, the ambience was okay, but it was more an older fine dining/family owned style. It had some nostalgic vibe if you'd take it that way. Keep it up. I really hope it will be there forever long.
