Ever watch Father of the Bride with Steve Martin? The quaint little town depicted is Julienne's small town vibe with carefully curated selection of treats, decor, and culture. In fact it was filmed on this street! Pre pandemic this was a weekend treat yourself kind of location with the delicious food, friendly staff, and fresh bistro ambience with super cute store next door to help you pass time since they don't take reservations for their famous weekend brunch. The crowd is returning post pandemic but I have yet to dine in so I don't have food pics. They are famous for they refreshing salads, decadent cheese spreads (sun dried tomatoes and basil is my favorite), jamon Serrano, sandwiches, freshly baked breads, coffee... just to name a few things. I'm personally sadden that the lamb sandwich was removed from the menu this year. There are many places with good salads and sandwiches but the lamb sandwich is one of a kind in all of LA. Def higher end but the fully justified by the quality of the food and level of service. For whatever reason the owner has difficulty communicating and has treated me inappropriately. Maybe they're getting ready to serve chopped liver because that's how she has made me feel . I've always wanted to visit Julienne and I finally got the chance to go for my birthday! I went with a group of 6 and everything we ordered was delicious. We had two orders of the chocolate chip waffles, potato cake, and chilaquiles. The waffles were my favorite with a crunchy outside and fluffy inside. Brunch at julienne is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for! My favorite standout dishes were the chocolate chip waffles and the chilaquiles. It was a full house but we were able to be seated immediately. Their mimosas are strong and delicious. There is plenty of street parking right outside the restaurant but beware that the overhead trees will make a mess of your car! read more

'Twas the afternoon before Christmas that I had the opportunity to finally try out Julienne... the hype... 'twas real... We started off with the bread, which I suspect was a panettone with all the bells and whistles. The menu was quite helpful in letting me know which dishes were popular. So tried the meatloaf, beef hash, filet of beef. The meatloaf was alright, I'm quite biased for savory food so I would say that if you prefer sweet foods than this one would be for you. The beef hash was alright... but I didn't like how it was a little on the dry side. I didn't feel like there was enough flavor in there. Not sure if this was just my dish, but I didn't feel like this one was anything to write home about. Now, the filet of beef was exquisite! I highly recommend this one. Served with egg, this fish makes for one satisfying brunch. After our food was finished, we were treated to an array of deserts to choose from, but we chose the bread pudding. Went for brunch. Staff was friendly enough, so no complaints there. It was busy for a weekday. Patio seating only and on a cold mid morning, they had the heaters on, which helped--until they shut off. They never came back on so it was chilly for most of my meal. Ordered the Lemon Crème Brûlée Scone, applewood smoked bacon, rosemary potatoes and an oat milk mocha. The lemon brûlée topping was tasty, but the scone was so hard and dry. Not worth $7.50. I'd give that 2/5. The bacon was thick and crispy, but for $6.50 I could've bought a pound of bacon at the market, so I give it 3/5. At $7, the very small cup of potatoes was cold, under seasoned and underwhelming--2/5. The best thing was the mocha--5/5. I'm a brunch foodie. And I haven't been back here since pre-Covid. Arrived at 9:45am and it was pretty busy and most tables were taken up except for two small tables. We didn't have to wait too long to take our order. The guy who took our order was nice, but only if you're nice in return. My bf kept asking questions about what was inside the food, and the guy appeared a little annoyed because my bf was annoyed with his short responses without describing what was inside the food rather pointing at the displayed food. Other than that, it was pretty noisy with the close tables in proximity and having only seating available outside. The green omelette was overall good, but the hot chocolate was WAY too small and not worth paying $5.95. I don't drink coffee yet they are charging way more for just hot chocolate that seemed to be nothing special. The service there was alright. There was bird poop on one of our seats and one of the younger busboys wiped it down well enough to not feel grossed out by it. So most likely, I will not come back again here, as there are WAY much better brunch places nearby. Only a one time experience. read more

There were so many things that my friend and I wanted to try. We got the pumpkin waffle, chilaquiles with chicken sausage, chicken tarragon sandwich and earl grey lattes. I really enjoyed the earl grey latte. The pumpkin waffle was loaded, with dried cranberries, apple compote and a creamy sauce on top. It was really good and filling. The chilaquiles had a green tomatillo sauce that was a little spicy, but it was also loaded. We were so full that we took the chicken tarragon sandwich home. The bread of the sandwich had a nice flavor. You want to get a menu from inside and grab a table outside, then order at the counter when you're ready. A server will bring your order to the table. There is a cold water dispenser by the outdoor seating. I didn't get to look inside the store but it looked like there were a lot of unique things! Overall we had a lovely experience. They forgot to add "cafeteria" to their name because this is exactly the quality here. Nothing is made fresh, not even the breakfast burritos and the sandwiches are wrapped heavily in plastic. When we arrived they were almost out of the (pre-made) tarragon chicken sandwich, but an exception was made for a fresh one. One whole sandwich and a 1/2 sandwich with a bag of chips and a plastic cup of fruit, $36. The sandwich bread was dry and the chicken salad had little flavor. I've been coming here off and on for over 15+ years. The Creme brule French toast (now called bread pudding) is absolutely amazing! They also have candied bacon that is thick, crispy and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for brunch. There is a bakery next door that has frozen dinners and a wide variety of baked goods. I know there will be something to tickle your taste buds. I stopped in today to find that this once Fantastic restaurant no longer serves their amazing menu lunch and dinners. But instead they serve food in container or to go to be warned up at home. I've never been so heartbroken knowing that I can no longer have that delicious meatloaf and rosemary mashed potatoes ever again. I have taken so may of my friends and family in the past and I'm sad to say I won't be going back to Julienne any longer. Even though they have food items and the meatloaf, every thing is refrigerated and needs to be warmed at home. And let's face it. As if they didn't already inflate their "San Marino" prices, watch out on the bill for hidden charges. You can't list something as one price on a menu and then charge you something else for it, but that is exactly how they operate. I suspect this kind of underhanded commerce comes from greedy management and they probably take in quite an additional profit from unsuspecting customers. Watch out. Also, the coffee tastes like water. And they cut corners in other ways--like it's table service but they don't bring you cream and sugar for your coffee, you have to get up and get it like you're at the Starbucks. The ambiance is what you're paying for, but I still don't think I should have been up-charged for it. The creepiness and underhandedness of their obvious nickel and dimming customers is off-putting. This place is truly charming. It was a 15 minute walk from the Langham hotel and worth every step. Great outdoor patio with heaters. The menu is huge so it's difficult to decide what to eat. I actually made two trips here during my weekend stay. Everything was delicious. I got the open faced salmon sandwich... which is a very small portion.. but very good. It's on the pricier side but food quality is excellent. Egg salad was delicious too. There is a nice shop attached to the cafe which also has pre packaged food. I had read many positive reviews and was excited to visit and try their wonderful menu items. Sadly, I was bitterly disappointed. My husband and I were looking to order breakfast to go and other treats, however, that quickly changed. Their staff was dismissive when we asked what they recommended "there's a menu outside" was the less than helpful answer to the question. The staff person did not have the courtesy to look at my husband when he ordered a coffee, she was rude and short with her responses. We felt we were bothering her and quite frankly, as if she resented serving us. What topped it all off was that two gentlemen asked her a question and she responded politely, so obviously, she knows appropriate friendly service. I guess she felt we were not entitled to the same level of service. I won't be going back and I will not recommend. Well we hadn't been to Julienne for such a long time post Covid and we noticed driving past that it was now open on Sunday's ! YAY ! However ............ the surly and offhand service we received from the member of staff behind the counter in Sunday morning, all because I asked if they did the omelette with just egg whites because of a dietary issue that they don't seem to have any flexibility about, means we won't be coming back for a long long time and will make the drive to Beverly Hills or WEHO instead of supporting our local businesses ! I'm really sorry but having manners, politeness and being courteous doesn't cost anything and goes a long way toward making a cost a pleasant and enjoyable experience. This gem is nestled in a beautiful residential neighborhood, within a cute downtown area of San Marino. I love the ambiance, music, decor, and some of the food selections.
