Love Julienne! Excellent service and amazing food. I would suggest going on a weekday or early on a weekend because they do get pretty busy. Also, a big shout out to Herbert who was so kind and patient! We made is just before they closed their kitchen at 10:45 AM. They were able to seat us quickly but still gave us ample time to check the menu and order. We decided to go with the chilaquiles and the breakfast sandwich and I'm currently having a hard time to choose which one was my favorite!! Both dishes were amazing and filled with flavor. It was definitely enough for a brunch meal and great to split between two people (double the flavor). They don't rush you if you want to sit and digest ;) afterwards. Overall, great food, great service, and an absolutely amazing ambiance! I would highly suggest sitting outside to enjoy the nice San Marino neighborhood. Heard so much about this place from our friends in our neighborhood. We also wanted to visit this place and have breakfast here to reminisce our Paris trip in the past. But when got there this morning, we found out that they only serve a few items for breakfast during this covid time. We went inside the pastry shop to see what we can get to take out. Looked like they don't have much on offer. We were totally disappointed as we have planned this visit for awhile and so looking forward to dine here. I did managed to get a piece of quiche to go. We also browsed the store where they sell a lot of cooking products. They have a lot of charming and neat French products in stock. I believe this is a good place to get your French cooking ingredients. I guess we have to wait until the Pandemic is over to fully enjoy what they have to offer for French fair. read more

I did quite enjoy most of their savories except tuna salad which was too tart although I loved the ingredients. However, the quality of desserts weren't worth to eat nor pay their high price. I may consider their coffee cake & cookies may be decent but their seasonal dessert bread pudding tasted like baked on the greased old pan and it was awful with paying $9. Also Lemon Cloud (a sort of macaroon/almond cookie) tasted like 'plastic smell'. Probably because it was kept too long under plastic wrap, etc...? We came here over the weekend for brunch. Since it was Mother's Day weekend, we knew the wait would be long. (No reservations allowed on weekends.) The hostess quoted us a wait time of one hour and we were seated in about an hour and 15 minutes. We were seated out on the patio. It was a chilly morning but luckily the overhead heat lamps were turned on. The area was rather cramped unfortunately. I wish it was roomier; I couldn't even scoot my chair back without bumping into the person behind me. Since our table was placed on the patio and sidewalk, it was slanted, which cause me to knock over and break the glass of wine when I lightly grazed it as I was passing a dish across the table. So that was a bummer. The service was good. Yes, it was slow. But again we knew that coming in. From the hostess to the waiter, everyone was friendly. Even though our drink order was brought out incorrectly, it was quickly fixed. So why the two star rating? The food. For dishes with price ranging from $15~$25, I expected it to taste above subpar. -The Seafood Pasta was bland. I'm not one to go heavy on the salt but this dish tasted like nothing. The seafood also lacked flavor. It tasted like I was literally eating nothing. -The Warm Farro with Wild Mushroom was mediocre. The only saving grace about this dish was the White Fish. Everyone at our table raved about it. The crispy outside and tender inside was delicious! -Bittersweet Chocolate Chip Waffle was well balanced. Portion was not too big. Waffles were light. I couldn't taste the vanilla in the creme fraiche. But appreciated the fact that the creme fraiche was not overly sweet. -The Green Omelette was just average. Nothing to rave about. Honestly, hardly memorable. -As stated earlier, our incorrect drink was quickly replaced with the correct one. However, the second latte that was brought out was...depressing? It was obvious the drink was made in a hurry and presentation was disregarded. The startling difference between the two latte when placed side to side was obvious. Cozy and cute place my date and I stopped at on our way to the Huntington Botanical Gardens/Library/Museum. They have a shopping section with books, decor, and more. There is a self serve section with pre-made sandwiches that looked nice. We ordered our items from the other side of the shop and took them to-go. The spinach and cheese pie was flakey and buttery. Of course, we succumbed to the temptation of the pastry section as everything looked tasty. We picked up two lemon tarts with berries and two macaroons. Our items were packaged well and we were given substantial cutlery and thick napkins. This place definitely deserves another visit. read more

Only the coffee & tea drinks came in glass cups. The food was decent but for $28 for a salmon salad that only had 4 ingredients (butter lettuce, a few salmon cubes, cherry tomatoes & a few pieces of avocado), I had expected it to at least come out on a real plate. What happened to Julienne? It used to be a nice place with decent food. Now, other than the quaint setting, nothing is the same. Food is low quality. I get better food at McDonald's. Even the scones are bad. Dry and stale. Please don't bother to ask for clotted cream. There is no one to ask, and when a server eventually shows up, the answer is NO! Even the coffee is bad. Came here to have brunch with my husband because we saw lots of good reviews of this place. Took them almost 15 min before taking our orders because there was no one at the ordering station. It's open table so pretty much you order and just sit where ever you want. Took them over 35 mins to bring our food and drinks. And this was only when we asked them to check up on our order. Food was good but I feel like it shouldn't have taken 35 mins to bring food and drinks out. Food was on the cold side and drinks were already warm and ice was starting to melt in my drink. How the mighty have fallen. Owners need to listen up!!! This was the most amazing breakfast spot in all of Pasadena (read my previous Yelp) What I remember most about Juliennes was the ambiance, and the service followed by the food, which was always really good. Today, none of that was present. Juliennes used to have the best table side servers ever, older gentlemen that remembered you every time. Now you have to order at the counter except you dont know because no worker is really present. Except they are, but they are like headless chicken not knowing what to do. In fact, we had 3 separate people take our order, ring it in and charge us. None of which seem to have any interest in being there or knowledgable of what Juliennes offers. Juliennes used to have excellent food and many tasty options. Stand outs breakfast items such as the Rosemary currant bread with butter and raspberry jam (complimentary BTW, now you have to pay for it but the food runner doesn't know it comes with jam so he pretends to do you a favor by bringing some out and its till good but cold) the lemon brûlée scone, huevos rancheros and so on. The breakfast burrito was obviously microwaved because it was unnaturally hot on the inside and the tortilla was very hard as when you microwave one. Lattes were not very good. Waffles for a kid were great except they were $18. The counter style service is horrendous when your staff is uninterested in being good at something, serving what once was the best in San Marino, South Pasadena, Pasadena and Alhambra. They had Strawberry shortcake Tea Time flyers that I wanted to take my daughter to but they are all sold out, so take the flyers away. The cafe still seems pretty cool. I noticed more offerings than before as well as more pastries. 6 miniature macarons were nearly $22. Please do better. I dont really need to go back until you do. NOT Worth it!! I buy the packaged food/meals and it becomes so boring because the food is the same every day, every week and every month! Okay maybe that is an exaggeration. What isn't an exaggeration is the poor quality of the food. I go to Julienne's every month to buy a lot of the premade frozen meals and I bought o e that was disgusting. The tortillas were mush and the meal had no flavor. When I went to return it I was harassed because they said they have been in business for 35 years and have never received a complaint. What does a customer say to that. What happened to this place. this place has gone down hill The other complaint I have is that it seems that the meals all have a Mexican flair to them. I love Mexican food but to make a traditional American type meal turn into a non traditional. In the end the differences between the dishes end up being g too similar and boring. I do t cook and the meals are boring and alike. I won't be going back. I miss the creative and great taste the original owner brought to the table. read more

What a great breakfast spot! Hidden in a small community of San Marino, you'll find a trendy brunch place to hang out with some classy friends. My family and I arrived at 11am and waited approximately 20 minutes before we were seated. While we waited, we browsed around their store where they sell small items and food. Some recommendations include the Grilled Beef Filet that comes with eggs and roast potatoes, the Chicken tostada, and candied bacon. The prices on the menu are a little higher than most places, but the food quality, ambiance, and service make up for what you're paying. read more

It wasn't that way before. The food...no. I ordered an egg salad and it had egg shells in it, and it was like $18 for eggs and mayo. Boooo. Met a friend for lunch on a Saturday morning, we had no problems with the food....we ordered the huevos Julienne, the cheeseburger special and a cup of salmon chowder with bacon....everything was great...service was great too....the only problem was the table we had...it was the only one available to us at the time and it was probably the worst table...it was wobbly and good thing we didn't have hot coffee or the cup could have spilled and burned one of us...the busboy did apologize for the wobbly table...but you're setting your business up for a potential lawsuit....I would get it fixed or switch it out for a more stable table. read more

Great brunch spot! It's been on my list of places to try for some time now. My BF and I were on our way to the Echo Mountain Hike in Altadena and this was on the way. We got there around 10ish, so we beat the rush. Found street parking and got sat at a table outside. We ordered our coffees and perused the menu. There was a Sunday brunch menu that had breakfast items until about 11:30, so I got the Green Scrabble which was Feta, Brocolli, Asparagus, Avocado and Salsa. My bf got the Parmesan crusted potato cake. We got two pieces of thick toast to start, which was delicious and fluffy. Took a while to get our food but it was pretty tasty and filling. Came here for brunch on a Saturday. The wait was rather long for two people, over 30 minutes. When we were finally seated, our table was in a semi private little area, only about two other tables there, which was a nice touch. The decor is Victorian, you can tell the place has been around for a while - many of the customers seemed to be regulars, eagerly greeting the staff (likely people who live around the area). I ordered the chilaquiles with steak which is primarily why I am giving this place a 4/5 - they are very flavorful! The chilaquiles come with green salsa, melted cheese, scrambled eggs, avocado, and your choice of meat. It was a rather big portion, and I completely devoured it! As for the service, my water was consistently refilled which was great and you get complimentary raisin bread with butter. However, after we placed our food order, we waited a very long time again. If you are in a hurry, this is not the place to come grab a quick bite. There is a little parking lot right next to the restaurant and spaces all along the street, however, if you can't find parking here, you can always park in the residential neighborhood right next door. read more

I've had Julienne bookmarked for a while now and finally I had a chance to come here for brunch! I can tell this place has been established in San Marino for some time because of the fancy and classic decors. Julienne is not a cheap brunch place and is a little pricey but given that it's in San Marino, you'd expect it to be higher quality. My friend and I came on Saturday at around 12pm for brunch and we had to wait 15 mins to be seated. I noticed on Yelp that people said they give complimentary Rosemary bread (which to my surprise was super light and refreshing), however, my table were not given that. I noticed that some people were not given it as well but some were. We eventually had to ask for it because how can you pass up on free bread?? I ended up ordering the Creme Brulee French Toast ($16) which I know is a staple dish here. I was super surprised on how it tasted because although it was extremely heavy, it was extremely tasty too. It wasn't super sweet and the strawberry sauce complimented really well with the creme brulee flavor. They sell a lot of other different things that are a little pricey for me and although the creme brulee french toast was good, I did not think it was worth the price. Parking is available on the street and I believe that there's a lot also but there's normally plenty of street parking. Julienne is one of the few places located in SGV and I would probably come back in the future when I'm done trying other places bookmarked for brunch. read more

Great little French breakfast and brunch place! The service here is excellent! My waiter was friendly and attentive. I ordered the following: 1) Beef hash. 2) Chocolate chip waffles with strawberries and whip cream. 3) Mocha latte with soy milk. Initially, I thought about ordering the fresh salmon hash, but the male server recommended the beef instead. This turned out to be really good. It is served in a small iron cast skillet, which kept the food hot for a good period. For those who are health conscious, this dish was a little more on the oily side. But if you don't mind all that grease, it's not bad. This must be a popular dish because I saw several tables order this. The waffles were surprisingly delicious. It had a very crispy texture...and who doesn't love crispy? There was one small downfall, after about 10 minutes, the waffles became soggy from the whip cream. Had I known, I would have asked for the cream on the side. Otherwise, eat it right away if you want to enjoy the crunchy texture with the sweet chocolate chips and strawberries! I washed down my brunch with a yummy mocha latte with soy milk. This was very rich, but also quite good. Parking was actually easy to find. Not to mention, the indoor/outdoor ambiance here is lovely. We arrived on Saturday around 2pm for brunch with about a 30 minute wait. We were sat outside of the restaurant in front of the bakery which is also owned by the restaurant apparently, & the overview street when it's sunny out provides a nice ambient setting. Servers were also nice & helpful. Now to the issues/food. I had ordered the grilled filet of beef on the 'all day' menu, which was basically just steak & eggs with potatoes. They messed up almost every item in some way. I ordered the steak medium rare & the eggs over-easy. The steak came out seemingly medium-well with barely and pinkness & the eggs came out medium w/ barely any runny yolk. The potatoes came out nice, although to be honest you'd actually have to try to mess up potatoes. My friend had also ordered the egg quiche. Let's just say the egg quiche she ate for breakfast on her trans-pacific flight had more flavor. The Arnold Palmer was refreshing if a bit bland as well & a little bit overpriced ($5 for a glass), but at least there's free refills. But not all of the food we ordered was completely bland. We had also ordered the seafood pasta, which was decent despite the sauce being a little too watery, & the creme brulee french toast was nice, sweet, and...well.. toasty. Huge as well, probably the best item we ordered. All in all, this restaurant has your nice typical casual brunch setting, but if you're planning to spend brunch-level amounts of money, you can likely find other places around SoCal where they prepare their food a little more carefully. read more

Well, what is left of this cafe is highly mediocre. Table service is no more. It's an adequate coffee shop with some vaguely stale baked goods now. It still looks lovely and has a bunch of pricey candles and Knick knacks, but all the good breakfast food (and delicious bread) is no more I had the quiche, which was mediocre and clearly reheated after being made some time ago. The latte was fine, not great. My husband had the famed bread with the jam, which looked stale and tasted worse, apparently. I doubt I'll ever bother to return. Clearly I'm not the only one who feels this way, the place was nearly empty after decades of being impossible to get into. Sad ending this place, frankly. read more
