However after Ikko thought give it a try, don't ever get the omakase, it's rediculous bad, chef forget to give out all the dish. Gave the desert and check and forgot to serve the uni bowl . My son took us there for my Bday dinner! Although the space was so tiny but the customers would come at different times so it was not stuffy or crowded. This place is also great because they stay open till midnight which makes it very convenient for a late dinner. As for the sushi, you will be in for a totally out of the box taste and experience. It was recommended to me by someone in the food industry and the high yelp ratings only got me more excited by oh boy did this place fall short of my expectations. Let me start with the good. The ambiance was quaint and intimate. We sat by the sushi bar and our sushi chef was very nice and friendly. The service was also prompt and attentive. Where it went south for me was the actual food. The fish was simply subpar compared to my other usual sushi spots. The presentation was great but so lacking in taste and texture. The salmon was one of the worst I've ever had in my life. Even the fatty tuna belly priced at $8.50 a piece was very unimpressive! And don't even get me started on the panna cotta dessert(insert eye-roll). To add insult to injury, their prices are way too high for the quality, portions and location of the restaurant. Chef at the best sushi bar might not make kushi or tempura like the one at the best Izakaya, and vice versa. K's has experienced Japanese chefs excelled at making high quality Japanese Kushi, Tempura, and Sushi, so dining in there gives me wide open wine and sake choices since they have everything I look for in food and wine pairing. K's Kushi is one of the best I had. I can feel the aroma of the grilled meat rushing into my nose when it place in front of me. After I take the first bite, I am sure it was done by a master level chef because it takes skill to grill out the natural flavors of the food and maintain the moisture within. Pairing them with red wine will be the most delightful experience one can have. K's also accommodate all my request in making off menu item. Whole Cornetfish sashimi, Spiny lobster sashimi, all presented in an artistic plating. We were excited to see that the menu offers a good range of appetizers, sushi/sashimi, yakitori (skewers), and selection of premium sake. We ordered a couple items from each section of the menu and the dish that stood out was the Kakuni braised pork - it was so soft that it just melted in your month with a long lasting flavor. We ordered about 10 different nigiris - they were good, but not amazing. Several of the nigiris were a bit over salted/sauced which overpowered the flavor of the fish (my favorite on was the toro - fatty tuna）. The yakitori were tasty overall, but the selection was somewhat limited compared to a place that specializes in it. I called ahead of time to see if they had any spots available. I was able to get seated at the bar on the day of for omakase before other parties came for their reservations at a later time. I ordered the omakase special set and also an oyster sampler. The oyster sampler was pretty good and tasted fresh. The special omakase set was surprisingly filling. I love Sushi. I eat Sushi as often as possible. Someone says lets go to Sushi, I am there! My friend has been trying to get me to go to K's for awhile and it just never worked out. Yesterday was the day. My first impression was: Where is this place? I even walked in to the place next door by accident. When I did not see a sushi bar, I knew it was the wrong place. They are in a strip mall next to The Huddle and the lot is not so nice. Walking in to K's was like being transported into an upscale area. I was greeted by the staff and the chef's and as it was 1:15, the place was empty. We both ordered the sushi lunch special (see pic) which comes with miso soup (more about that later) which was definitely one of the better miso soups I have had. The ambiance was great, the chefs engaging and entertaining, the server attentitive and when the lunch came out.... the presentation was Amazing!!! The sushi is expensive, but the taste qualified the cost. My 2 reasons for 4 stars (If Yelp had a half, I would give 4.5) was: A. My friend ordered soup when he first sat down, as he always does at a sushi bar and when we got the bill we were charged $5 for soup... which comes with the lunch special. B. We asked for Ponzu sauce and there was a charge on the bill for Ponzu. Seriously??? At least they did not charge for smelt eggs which we asked for on our handrolls, as some places will, so that was either nice, or an oversight. Regardless, I will definitely be going back for the lunch specials and some of the other specials they offer and would love to have the omakase dinner soon. read more

We came here to celebrate a birthday yesterday, and had planned on ordering the omakase for $100 pp. (8 pcs, small bowl, miso soup, and dessert) However, when we looked at the menu, we opted to order our own pieces instead because the pricing was about the same. Sake: The had a wide variety of sake. Prices ranged from $80.00 - $300.00 per bottle. We tried the Yuzu Sake for $80 (750ml) and it was a little too bitter and perfume tasting for me. Sushi: The sushi nigri are priced per one pcs. We ordered the following: - Oysters with Uni and Caviar 3/5: $22 per two pieces. We had expected this to be great. However, the oyster was a bit fishy and there were no other flavors to help mask it. I definitely think this dish needed a splash of ponzu. - Yellowtail 2/5: Nothing great or special. The cut was on the thinner side. - Red Snapper 4/5: This was one of the better pieces. The different toasted sesame seeds complimented the fish very well. - Scallops 4/5: You can never go wrong with scallops. The cut was juicy. Was hoping for them to add a little yuzu to bring out the flavor even more. Sea Perch 2/5: This is usually one of my favorite types of fish but it was so lacking here. Also, it was about $12 per piece. The chefs didn't add anything additional to compliment the fish. Striped Jack 2/5: Barely memorable. Mirugai 5/5: I think this was the best piece of the night. Also priced at $12 per piece. This jumbo clam had the perfect texture and flavor. Fatty Tuna Belly 3/5: Tuna pieces are usually my favorite but this cut was very chewy and almost mushy. Special Waygu Roll 4/5: I actually really enjoyed this roll. The mash potatoes on top of the roll complimented the waygu very well. Also, our server had asked if at the beginning of the meal if we would like fresh wasabi or the wasabi paste. We ordered the fresh wasabi but she never brought it out. It was an additional $3 per person and they did put add it to a couple of the fishes but not all. Normally, when you request for fresh wasabi, its usually for a side. This should have been explained better in my opinion. All in all, we spent about $400 for three people including a bottle of sake. I don't think it is worth it for the quality. read more

Having lived in Irvine for a decade now, we had gone to Ikko a couple times for omakase and enjoyed it. Imagine my surprise looking for dinner one weekday night, and finding out that K's Bistro had taken its place! The "no rolls" sign is gone from the door, but parking in the lot is still tough unless you are late eaters like us. Walking into a place with quality sushi that is open late on weekdays is a rarity around here. We both had the omakase, which consisted of a delicious beet smoothie appetizer, pickles, soup, lots of nigiri, a mini hand roll, chawanmushi (always a fave of mine), and dessert. I added a couple pieces off the specials list as well as the sake sampler. Quite a reasonable price for the taste and amount of food. But even if you don't want to go all out, they also have a bunch of sushi rolls and cooked dishes on the menu. I want to come back and try their yakitori and dashimaki tamago soon.
