This is my favorite quick sushi spot! When I am in the mood to "go out" for sushi, there are other places I favor because Kai does not serve alcohol. And while I'm not a total lush or anything like that, I enjoy wine or sake with my sushi which Kai can't offer. BUT - their food is fantastic!! I eat here frequently, whether for a quick stop in or to take it to-go. Everything is delicious. My favorite is the Miami Vice roll and the seared albacore sushi. Truly though, I have never ordered anything that I didn't absolutely love. The prices were decent and the service was fast. If you're in the area and you're looking for tasty but decently-priced Japanese cuisine, this would definitely be the place to go. Love it and I will definitely be back more often. This restaurant is great! We found it looking for some local sushi and we are lucky we have this gem so close. I have taken my daughter here the last three weekends in a row and everyone I can get to go with me. Even then we are craving it more and more! Lots of spicy options and a number of original options like sushi pizza which is a flatbread 'roll' with salmon and other flavors on it and a sushi 'burrito' which I have yet to try. Not a typical sushi spot, what makes them different is that they have you order first before being seated. The service was friendly but food took a little longer than expected. It seems if you dine in, they will bring the food to your table once you've ordered at the counter. The fish, for the most part was fresh but seemed a bit overpriced. Well, this is not a fancy place, but I really like it. I want to admit. This is geared toward an American clientele. Still, the sushi is good. However, it's really the awesome customer service that stands out to me. After church, a group of 5 of us met up for super late dinner. They closed at 9:30 or so...we arrived at 9-ish. We were the only customers at the time. This was the closest sushi joint to us. My thoughts were to try and be considerate have a quick bite and leave. I guess I didn't communicate that to my party of 5 because we kept on ordering rolls! With every roll that came out, we were served with a genuine smile. We left after dinner and as we were outside by the parking lot, they even hurried after us to give us warm tea in to go cups. That I think is stellar customer service! I was extremely impressed by this local, inconspicuous joint. I'd seen it for years, but didn't try it until I was really craving sushi and my family was tired of cooking during quarantine. I got the Tiger Woods Roll and Paradise Roll (cool names). They were very gratifying. The Tiger Woods Roll, I believe gets it's name from the back that it is topped with black and orange sauce stripes, making it resemble a tiger (not sure where the "Woods" comes from). The Tiger Woods contained both eel and tuna, and really satisfied my sushi tooth. The Paradise Roll I experimented with, interestingly, did not resemble a typical rice and seaweed roll. In fact, it was not formed into one straight roll, but each individual roll was separately laid down flat. I loved the aesthetic of this one because it was unique with vibrant colors and wrapped in cucumber!! In hindsight, this was a worthwhile experiment, because the lack of rice allowed me to taste the tuna and salmon melt in my mouth with the subtle ponzu dip (it came with) elevating it, And for a moment I thought I could actually be in paradise.. All jokes aside, come here!! And don't shy away from the special rolls because they're incredible. read more

This is the happiest five stars I've given with a place like Kai Sushi. From a college student perspective, this is the best place to get great, fresh sushi at a great value! I've only remembered to check in twice so far out of the many times I've visited here with my boyfriend because I get too excited for the food. The seating is a bit more sparse so big groups aren't ideal, but the interior is always clean and the design is cute and pleasing to look at. Instead of ordering through a server, you can walk straight in and order right at the counter and they'll serve your food at the table. They also have a great water dispenser if you prefer having a cup of water. I highly recommend their SLUR roll (my boyfriend and I always order two because we love it!), Miami Vice Roll, Hot Night Roll, and their House Special Roll. We just tried the House Special roll last night for my birthday, and the amount of spicy tuna was just right. It didn't overwhelm the roll and it was a great blend of flavors and texture. The small amount of seaweed salad dotted with Sriracha was a great touch! Can't wait to be back soon to celebrate finishing exams. read more

PREGNANT FRIENDLY PLACE ^_^. This place was kind enough to let me make substitutions to my order. Since I am pregnant, I am not supposed to eat raw fish. I can have imitation crab meat, but I am not comfortable eating it so I avoid it. I ordered 4 HANDS ROLLS (eel, cucumber, krunch and salmon skin) and I substitute crab meat for veggies and avocado. Hand rolls were so delish. Generous portion and they added soooo much avocado. Sooo good! I also enjoyed their VEGGIE TEMPURA Place is a small sushi spot inside a big business plaza. Menu consist of classic sushi rolls, nigiri, specialty sushi rolls, handrolls, lunch specials etc. Prices are reasonable. Came around lunch time on a weekday and there were a lot of people ordering to go and picking up food. Once I'm done with this pregnancy I will come back and try their sushi with raw fish! read more

Fast casual type of sushi place. Don't be snobby. For the cost of food here, expect glorified California rolls if that's what you're craving for $10/combo (more of less). Food 4/5: It's not high end sushi, but time to time I crave a good Cali roll and this place surpasses my expectations for that. The quality and service is quite decent for what it is. Nothing is too greasy, too much, too little, or old tasting. It's just right. Price 5/5: For what you get, it's pretty decent. I usually come here for lunch and end up spending about $11-12 including tax. It's slightly higher than what I'd usually pay for lunch but you get a decent amount for what it is. Cleanliness 5/5: Nothing to complain here. The food tastes fresh and the tables get cleaned right away when you leave. Ambiance 3/5: I think they should ditch some of the decor here, it really hinders the look of the store. It's definitely clean here. I've had all kinds and grades of sushi, everything from the finest you can buy in Japan to Sugarfish to Sushiboy. While I love my top-notch sushi, I don't always need to go to Sugarfish to satisfy my cravings. Places like Kai are delicious without the long wait. Here's my take on Kai Sushi: FOOD: Kai has all of your standard rolls (California, forms of crunchy/spicy rolls) as well as hand rolls, and my personal savior/favorite, CUCUMBER ROLLS! If you're doing low-carb or keto (like me these days) and your family invites you to sushi, you might start to sweat and wonder what you can actually eat. I loved that Kai had cucumber rolls, and they were DELICIOUS! They also fully accommodated my request to have hand rolls without the rice AND gave me extra filling to boot, which I loved. I got a spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail hand roll and they were so delicious! AMBIANCE: Kai is a little sushi shop within a strip mall, but do not let this turn you off! Repeat after me: not all sushi needs to be like Sugarfish. The service here is fast and wonderful. The owner and co. knew my family's names and greeted them (it was my first time there, so I get I'm an outsider!). PARKING: Since Kai is located in a smaller shopping center, there is ample free parking in front of and around the restaurant. This might not be a concern for OC folks, but a relief for this LA lady that parking was easy for once in Southern California. We all left Kai with full bellies and were super content with our meal! Tried this place for the first time. It was a perfect place to eat after a long day of work. They took a little while to take out order because they were filling take out orders but we didn't mind. The friendly lady offered us eater while we waited. When she was able to she came over and joked around with us while taking our order. She was super friendly. We where a group of 6 so we thought we would have to wait a little longer to get our food out but surprisingly it was quick. She rolled out an adorable cart with all our orders on it she remembered what each person ordered and handed us each our tray with our food. Here comes the best part... The food was amazing!!! Not exaggerating at all I loved it. I ordered the sashimi special, egg rolls and a miso soup. The rest of the table had rolls, edemame, hand rolls, shrimp tempura etc. Every person was more than satisfied. Then the whole table ordered hot tea. It came out in unique individual pots for each person with a matching cup. I think it was passion fruit or something along those lines. She joked it was her secret recipe she could not share with us. Best tea ever!! After our dinner we paid and walked out. She waved good bye and then right before we got to our cars she chased us down to bring us all some cute juices. I haven't tried mine yet but I'm looking forward to it. Overall I loved the food. I enjoyed the chatting and joking around. The vibe is very chill relaxing and welcoming. The tea was perfect. Doesn't look much from first walking in and not seeing an actual sushi bar .... this was my first visit. Kind of a hole-in-the-wall location, but don't let the tastefully decorated environment and few tables scare you . . . cuz the freshness of the fish, food presentation and taste are BEYOND words. Definitely some of the best Udon Noodles I've ever had. I was the only eat-in patron during the 6-7 pm dining hour, but they served up a bunch of take-out orders while I was there. Menu seems to emphasize both cut and hand rolls, but there's also about a dozen different fishes from which to choose from both Nigiri and Sashimi . . . and prices are very reasonable considering the more-than-adequate serving portions.
