My favorite sponge cake spot in NYC. Love coming by here to see the variety of sponge cakes they have to offer and for a $1.25 each, these cakes simply do not miss. There is also a few milk tea drinks that are also solid, but slightly on the pricier end. There are a few tables to sit down and enjoy, and the vibes are nice, but its very easy to just pick up your cakes and head out within seconds. There is no outdoor seating. and I want to remind you to bring cash, there is an extra charge if you pay with card (but its still an option). The cakes are all great, and the subtlety in which the flavors are added is a really nice touch. My trip to Chinatown never ends without a visit to Kam Hing. The store, has a dingy appearance in the beginning but has a very vintage , retro touch to it! This place is super famous for their sponge cakes. My personal favorites are: Classic Ube Chocolate chip BEWARE: They run out of these cakes early. The ambiance for both locations feels a bit ghetto but the staff is friendly and helpful. The bakery has more variety than their sister location. I was in Chinatown last Saturday with my daughter in law in search of sponge cake. We had been to a very adorable sponge cake cafe across the street, but were tipped off through YELP to head to Kam Hing first this time. We found Kam Hing easily enough, it seemed like an older establishment. There were two disgruntled looking cops at one table eating sponge cakes, but otherwise, everyone else looked happy and to be really enjoying their snacks and beverages. Once we go to the counter, we found out that they were completely out of flavored sponge cakes, but had plenty of the plain/classic flavor. We were bummed, but flexible and ordered two plain and an iced tea. The very nice guy behind the counter asked if we wanted out sponge cakes hot and fresh out of the oven, we said sure and OMG, neither one of us had ever had sponge cake this good, it was like we were floating on the ceiling, it was that good. A complete revelation. I ended up buying two boxes of 12 to take back home to share.
