I'm obsessed with ddeokbokki and kimbap, so I've been trying different places to see how they all compare. This place does NOT disappoint. Mind you, I went when they opened up again after an hour close, so it was completely empty. But the gentleman was really nice, friendly greeting and had a warming smile that makes you feel at home in the restaurant. Fairly fast service, too! I ordered the beef kimbap and the D.I.Y ddeokbokki. LOL I swear, I felt like he was judging me on the inside cuz he kept reminding me that the D.I.Y ddeokbokki fed two people, but I was ordering it for one. I don't blame him though lol. Kimbap was REALLY good! The ddeokbokki, omg, was the best I've had out of all the ones I've tried everywhere. The only thing I do wish they did was put the fried noodle rolls, dumplings, and cheese sticks were brought on the side rather than in the dish itself. It got a little too soggy rather than keeping its crunchy bite. But such a tasty dish overall! And pretty spicy, which gave a great heat :) I HIGHLY recommend this place! One of my favorite Korean restaurants that serve bomb ass spicy rice cake. This place is very casual and the customer service is quick and friendly. My friend and I came here around 2pm and were seated right away. There were quite a few parties in the restaurant but soon died down after an hour. Fairly spacious and clean. The menu is decently priced and there is a lot to choose from. I've tried the spicy rice cake with cheese/ramen and the dumpling rice cake soup. The spicy rice cake here is pretty spicy so if you're not a fan of spicy food, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not the kind of spice that will burn your tongue, but it's the kind that gradually builds the more you eat it. And you get a ton of rice cake which I really enjoy because some places can be stingy about that. As for the dumpling rice cake soup, it has a nice seaweed flavor to it and feels very light. The dumplings are SO GOOD. It has a slight peppery taste to it that I really like. And the bowl is HUGE, definitely worth the money. Another plus is that they give you a big bottle of water so you can refill yourself. Nothing much I can complain about here, I would totally recommend this to anyone who likes Korean food. read more

Disappointing. Recently, my friend and I skipped the rain and walked into Kami Korean Kitchen looking for a hearty dinner meal. From the appearance, this place looked legit: clean, homey and feels authentic with only Korean written menu plastered on their walls. The venue is quite petite, and the interior is basic without much unimportant details going on. Unlike the neighboring ToBang and Kunjip, this place has ZERO WAIT (on a Saturday night), good for our hungry tummy but maybe we should've taken this as a sign ;). We picked the Ddukboki and this was the one dish I was so excited about, but ended up feeling utterly disappointed. Cooked at our table, our pot arrived piping hot, topped with ramen noodle, rice cakes, dumplings, fishcakes and cheese sticks. By default, the spiciness level was pretty overwhelming (so order with caution!), and the soup was insanely sweet for our liking. I do, however, love the toppings, thought the dumplings were especially good! Yet, priced at $23, it was predominantly noodles with disproportionate amount of toppings. The service was below average and absolutely non responsive. Dirty tables, our waiter never once checked in on us and everything from ordering to getting our bills took a long time. It was entirely an underwhelming experience! And with the plethora of choices for great Korean food in the area, I don't think I will make my way back here again. read more

Stumbled upon this small place in a strip mall with several other Korean restaurants and I feel like I found a hidden gold mine! Our waiter (probably the owner) was outstandingly friendly and very helpful, which was key since I don't know this cuisine well. We went with his suggestions The Chulpan Yori is a kimchi cheese fried rice served on a cast iron pan with a fried egg and an ingredient of your choice such as bacon or shrimp or bulgogi. This was a huge portion of fried rice that was exploding with flavor. As you dig, you find the hidden lode of melty cheese which pulls up in strands, kind of like an otherworldly, upside-down, rice pizza. I have had (and love) kimchi fried rice but cheese was a surprise and add an gooey egg yolk and it's a symphony of textures and umami. I would love to have that again -- and I will, since the giant portion was enough for me to take home. On now to the noodles. My friend had the Kalguksu, a giant bowl (yes, he had take-home, too) of hand-cut noodles in a light-colored but deeply chickeny broth. The noodles were perfect -- tender with just enough bite. Served alongside was some kimchi and daikon which were just as good as the rest. The place is clean and attractive. It was pretty empty when we arrived at 11:25 AM on a weekday but filled up by noon. I haven't been here in a while, but my friend and I got the one dish with ramyun, egg, tteokbokki, mandu (I believe that's what it was), mozzarella sticks, fish cakes, and a few more things that I cannot name at the top of my head. The tteokbokki is cooked perfectly. And I mean, it's soft, yet still chewy, and not hard. Some places I've been to make it al dente, which I am not the hugest fan of. I really liked the addition of the mozzarella sticks, since I thought it was super unique. The sauce wasn't too spicy or sweet, and went well with the noodles and the rest of the stuff inside of the dish. If you're looking for home-cooked Korean food, this is the place to go. My friend and I got here at 7:30 on a weekday, which I know is horrible, since they close at 8, but they still seated us under the condition that we would order quickly, very kind of them! We both got the sujebi, hers with kimchi, and loved it. I had been craving sujebi for so long and this really hit the spot. It was so flavorful and soothing at the same time. I came here with my family on a Tuesday night and we were the only customers at around 6PM. It's a mom and pop kind of shop but the food was made quickly and the owner was very nice. We ordered 2 of the Kami rolls which were great value and delicious. The fried dumplings were a little pricey for the 6 that came out and they were alright. We came for the tteokbokki and it was plenty for us to share. I would recommend skipping the cheese because it took away from the spice flavor and opting for the spicy level because it's not very spicy! read more

Wow! So glad we finally tried this place. In the same plaza as Tobang and Kunjip, it can be easy to overlook Kami Korean Kitchen. But don't sleep on them! They have an authentic taste that'll transport you to Korea for some home cooking. We really enjoyed the tteokbokki (spicy rice cake). The main menu item ($16.99) serves two and comes additionally with ramyun (instant noodles), odeng (fish cake), onions and kimchi. An aromatic pot is delivered on top of a portable gas stove, and the pot bubbles to life as the ramyun cooks before your eyes. I loved how spicy it was, but the dish also had a sweet flavor that kept me craving more. The individual pieces of rice cake could be firmer, but it was the flavor that won me over. Remember not to overcook your noodles! The tteokbokki was complemented really well by some kimbap we had. We ordered the tuna (~$6), but I'd bet all kimbap items would be good. Normally kimbap isn't that good in places around here, so it was a pleasant surprise to have authentic kimbap here. There was something that I couldn't quite pinpoint that made it more than just rice and seaweed and radish, etc,. but it made it the perfect complement to our tteokbooki main dish. The banchan is rather plain here, just a little bit of kimchi and pickled daikon, but it's no matter because the menu items are so good. And at relatively low prices, you'll be completely stuffed for a pittance. As a result, Kami Korean Kitchen is firmly a 4.5-star place to me, and I can see myself craving their tteokbokki for years to come. We'll round up for the mom-and-pop atmosphere :) read more

I had high expectations of this place because of the many great reviews it has but I'm sad to say it did not meet them. I ordered the Spicy Rice Cakes with Chewy Noodles. The sauce was really great because it was thick and spicy but this plate was made up of about 75% chewy noodles and the rest of the fish and rice cakes.
