They have a fantastic $7.99 cheeseburger and fry special. It is available every day and it is a double cheeseburger with French fries. It is also available whether you eat at the restaurant or get it for carryout which is really an outstanding value. The burger is delicious and it is a generous portion. My only issue with the burger is that you can order it either medium or well done. If you order two burgers cooked two different ways they do not mark which one is the well done burger. Another small issue that I have is I have ordered these burgers on several occasions and my wife likes hers well done and her burger on at least two of the occasions was actually medium. read more

So embarrassing. I took a friend here for her birthday lunch. We ordered a Chinese salad and added chicken. We also ordered avocado egg rolls. Okay to start the salad was white no green was in that salad, I know it's cabbage but there should have been some green leaves. It was limp. The chicken was supposed to be pecan crusted but it was just a chicken patty. I guess I should have started with the appetizer. It was the avocado rolls, yuck, I should have sent them back. Not good. This lunch cost $61 and we didn't get any drinks or dessert!!! I use to go to this restaurant for dinner and it was pricy but good. I could not believe this underwhelming lunch. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience tonight. The server was not very kind. He rushed us to put an order in just as we sat down, didn't even have a chance to read the menu. After our food arrived my husband added a side of fries and it didn't end up coming until 45 mins later!! Our server completely forgot about us. We also had come in to watch the baseball game and he knew we wanted to watch the game but when another group came in an hour later he changed the tv and didn't ask if we had minded. Ive passed this location 100 times and Saturday decided to give it a try and was shocked to see how out of date this place was! It looked like they did not change it in 20 + years! It gave early 2010 vibes! The AC was struggling but we decided to give it a try since it was SUPER hot outside we needed to sit and get a drink. Went to this place after nine months ago I thought maybe the food would change, but apparently not I ordered the fish tacos that were cold. I ordered the chicken wings for the appetizer. We've been frequent visitors to Kona Grill, (it's close to the movie theater) but our recent experiences have been disappointing. The food and service have declined significantly. On our last visit, we waited at our table for over 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us or offered drinks. The servers often come across as if they're doing us a favor, rather than providing attentive service. On top of that, the air conditioning feels almost nonexistent, which is a big issue in Arizona. The color was way off for being medium rare and no crust on the outside of steak. The waiter asked "how was everything!?". It started off good with drinks. Well once they re-made my drink due to them bringing me the Kona spritz instead of the rosè spritz. Not sure how she got my drink wrong when she recommended the rosè? The app was good and fresh but lacked in flavor and no bubbles (spritz) but still good enough. We ordered an app and as soon as it came our main course arrived. Prime rib medium rare came med well, at best. We called this out to the server who told us they would be med rare. They weren't. We sent them back as we hadn't even taken the first bite of our app plus (more importantly) they were way over cooked. The mgr came out with the overcooked dinners saying that's as rare as they have. Crazy as it was only 11am. We ordered steaks instead, one of them with crab Oscar which was crushed crab meat that had spoiled. It was nasty with a funky smell. Our side of mashed potatoes came with a solid potato (not mashed, not fully cooked) inside. Bonus potatoes I guess. The green beans that came with our steaks were over cooked and shriveled up. We were so disappointed as it is Mother's Day. This is not a cheap place for a meal. We expect better from Kona. We usually enjoy our meals here but will probably avoid in the future for special occasions. Things seem to be precooked and not enjoyable. read more

We felt like we were being rushed from the time we sat down. Our waitress was at the table before anyone in the party had really been able to look at the menu. Our food seemed to take quite awhile to come out. When it did come out, shrimp on my surf and turf was overcooked (rubbery and cold). Filet and green beans were also cold. You could tell it all had sat in the back for quite some time. Had it been busy I might have understood, but for a Friday night at dinner time, it seemed quiet. Now I know why. Been here a couple times but sadly won't be back. The price you pay and service is not worth it. As it was Christmas Day, I understand busy but to mess up a meal not once, but twice for a basic burger is ridiculous. To say the least we just scrapped off the mushrooms as that was the server request. As she said "it's a full house we try our best you can just scrape them off." Thankfully we aren't allergic. Seemed odd based on seeing 4 sushi chefs. Disappointing since that is what we wanted but we decided to stay, based on past experience, and order other options. Poke bowl. Nope...raw fish so comes from the sushi bar. Ribeye meatballs. Super flavorful and super over cooked. Salad. Decent. Hard to mess that up. Miso soup. Yeah...I know about inflation but I really expected it to be a little bigger than what every other restaurant charges $6. Ok. Bottom line. If you are able to get sushi on happy hour it's at least priced well but they definitely compensate the price for an excessive amount of rice. I got the bama roll off of happy hour and there is nothing in there that is cooked or fried so you would think it wouldn't take long to get out to the table. We waited well over 30 minutes for the sushi roll at 2:30 on a Monday. Lastly, service was very mediocre our server seemed like she hated her job and moved at a snails pace. My husband had the tomato bisque. He said it was good but different. We both ordered the chicken club. The tomatoes & lettuce were fresh as well as the avocado. Chicken was grilled to perfection. Plenty of bacon, real bacon not wimpy. The bacon could have been crisper but it was a great sandwich. The fries were great! Crisp AND flavorful! The portions were huge. I want to share my recent experience at Kona Grill, Gilbert because I was very impressed with the follow thru of our waiter, Taylor. Our meal was simple, and we stayed longer than normal, and Taylor checked on us consistently even when we didn't need anything over and over. That to me is a perfect example of great service, because it takes only one extended time period waiting and hoping a staff member will walk by to get you another coke or the bill. This is a nice restaurant and the service has always been excellent. Happy hour pricing is pretty good but their regular price is very high for mediocre food. While I'm not a fan of the new loud music low light establishments all over the metro area I am a fan of really great food and service which makes for an amazing dining experience!
