The tables are small - perfect for a catchup with a friend or a reading session since there's no wifi available. There are also sparkling water and normal water available, perfect to cleanse your palate between each sip of that delicious caffeine fix. You honestly can't go wrong with any of the espresso drinks here. My personal favorite is the Cortado for that milky foam, but the signature drink here is the Draft Latte that brought them to national fame as a high-quality chain. I I'm aware that a business can contest a review but Yelp should notify you. For the last several years, I've noticed that at least three of my bad reviews (no profanity nor personal details revealed; just basic bad reviews) for businesses other than restaurants have disappeared. I went to school at Temple U and La Colombe was always a huge thing around Philly (I'm going to assume that they're based out of Philly). Their popularity is rightfully deserved though; the oat milk draft latte on tap can't be beat. The latte is smooth and doesn't feel too heavy, creamy and so frothy.. I was excited to find out that they have a location in LA and I've stopped by here a few times. The interior is pretty neat and there's exposed brick throughout. The only downside is that they don't have a wifi network. With this being said, La Colombe is still one of my favorite coffee shops in LA. Huge fan and will continue to go back. read more

La Colombe Coffee is a coffee roaster and retailer originated in Philly. This coffee shop is located on Sunset blvd and Hyperion ave in Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. I have passed by this coffee shop for years but never got the chance b/c of long line. And one can opine that it's one of the popular coffee shops in the area. I came here on a fine cool, cloudy Wednesday morning with only one person in line. I was ebulliently greeted by a young blonde woman. Their atmosphere vibe was very cool and relaxing. Interior/Exterior design was modern with exposed wall brick and wooden beams on ceiling. I perused their menu list and ordered a Cappuccino. Even among experts, there is a cogent argument what is a really good Cappuccino. In my humble view, their Cappuccino is really smooth, less intense and perfect. I was a bit disappointed that they don't have a bloody stopper which is essential on every coffee shop. Hence, deducted a * star. Prices were very fair and for the time being they accept non-cash payment only. Staff were amiable, assiduous, and followed health protocol. Service was moderately fast. No wifi. At $22 a pound I had high hopes for this small-batch coffee roasted nearby in Elysian Valley. The first disappointment was the packaging--why double layer a box over a plastic bag for 12 ounces of locally produced coffee? They might be packaging for shipping but part of the point of local is reducing environmental impact. I care about this sort of wasteful plastic use more and more. The staff person couldn't tell me anything about the coffee that wasn't printed on the bag. The Oat Milk Draft Latte is 5/5 amazing! It's creamy and smooth. It's a very enjoyable beverage. I picked up La Colombe as I was waiting for my Yeastie Boys order. In the past I've usually picked up Intelligentsia to go with my breakfast order, but now that I've had La Colombe - I think I'll be sticking with this Oat Milk Draft Latte! The only reason this is a 4 out of 5 star review and not 5 out of 5 is because of the service. The first two staff members I interacted with were super friendly and pleasant (the lady I ordered from and the cashier). But the last person I interacted with was very grumpy (the person who prepared my latte). He grumpily and loudly told me that I was exiting the wrong direction. I apologized of course, but it was my first time at La Colombe - I didn't know that it was a one way walkway through the store. Hopefully when I come back he's less grumpy!! read more

I've been to La Colombe in DC and was excited to see there were coffee shops in LA. The location was fantastic and I loved the aesthetic inside - same as DC with exposed brick. They also did a great job with COVID safety with signs, gloves, masks, etc. I felt very safe going in to grab my coffee. There was one touristy looking family that was non-compliant mask wearers which was annoying. I got the oat milk draft latte and husband got the black and tan. This is smooth and delicious and absolutely wonderful, if you want more of a kick, black and tan is the way to go but the oat milk draft latte is my dream come true. They sell some pastry items, roasted beans and canned coffee drinks. I just tried ordering some pumpkin spice draft latte and I'm excited! Stumble upon this gem in silverlake. Honestly, I wasn't even heading there. Was actually on my way to another spot with friends but came upon this place. Didn't even know it was here. Once inside, the vibe was pretty chill and hipster ish. It is silverlike. We ordered a pleather of coffee, teas and pastries. It didn't take that long for our order. The shop alone was pretty cool. Loved my hot chocolate with hemp milk. Very sweet but not overpowering in chocolate flavor. The hemp milk adds a slight sweetness and a unique flavor. Sipping this and reading a good book was soooooooo relaxing. The lattes have a very very strong bitter nutty flavor. The foam kind of tasted like burnt dirt ??? But keep in mind I have a low tolerance for a strong espresso flavor so maybe that is foam was an acquired taste. But the oat latte on tap was very nice and smooth, a lot more mild in that bitter nutty flavor The atmosphere of this place is nice. I will make the fifteen minutes walk here with my co-worker because we are simply in love with the coffee that they serve on draft here. I always opt for the black and tan draft latte with oat milk and she gets the draft latte. The lemon cold brew is a pretty good option as well. I also got suckered in to their canned drinks on the go! The triple shot espresso will definitely jump start your day! The pastries here however are just okay, unfortunately. Finally had the opportunity to swing by the La Colombe, here in LA. It was in New York City when I had my first impression of the company which was a little over a year ago. I instantly loved how strong their coffee was. I normally will order an espresso (or double espresso) to be enjoyed there. I like the layout of this location -- there are plenty of areas to sit and relax, meet up with friends, have meetings, study, do work, whatever it may be. There is indoor, outdoor and an upstairs area with a room where there is additional seating. There is 1 restroom, self-serve sparkling or still water on tap -- don't forget to drop off your used cups/plates in the basin near the water. Can't wait to come back! read more

This review goes a bit deeper than average. But I was intrigued, so thought I would pass it along. New York, Los Angeles, most of the Bay Area, Seattle [really, any major ever-growing city] endures a bit of a Socio-economic struggle. The ever-shrinking, almost nonexistent middle-class is eroded between a more affluent society, as well as an unstoppable cascading title-wave of [hard] working class. This means the opportunity to economically succeed has decreased so significantly that the majority of us have been left to tread water. While La Colombe is still privately-owned, it wasn't (necessarily) "bought-out" by entrepreneurial business conglomerate and philanthropist, Hamdi Ulukaya. But rather-- Ulukaya "became the Primary Investor." (I'll circle back around to this in a sec... bare with me) Ulukaya absolutely has a track-record of philanthropy ranging from human rights, to oppressed Kurdish-Muslim rights. Recently, Ulukaya made headlines when a school retaliated against students who's families could not afford to pay their children's lunch debt--the school's (shameful) answer was to serve delinquent students cold peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, instead of hot-lunch in an attempt to shame families into paying the debt... Ulukaya stepped-in and quietly paid the debt, leaving the school to be shamed in newspaper headlines for their shitty strategy. Albeit, with a net worth of over $2-billion, paying the students' lunch-debt was a drop in the bucket; however it was also incredibly honorable of him. From a business perspective, Ulukaya has been quoted many times arguing: [employees who are paid-well enhance a company's overall value in productivity; and], he's argued, [it's also the moral thing to do]. However, after some research and after inquiring from local barista's: it seems they make about 30k/year (ballpark)... This salary is by no means parallel with his publicly argued philosophy or practice. Not to question his moral integrity (he seems like a good-man from the reader's perspective). But the fact that barista-salaries are perpendicular with Ulukaya's practice and public statements seems odd. Los Angeles is a hard place to live... annnnd La Colombe is an exceptionally profitable and expanding company. So... ? Where is the money? I mentioned earlier I would circle back to Ulukaya's investment of La Columbe. Ulukaya is not the CEO. He is the "primary investor." (Some would call that a CFO... but I digress). Ulukaya did not want to "fully acquire" the company, nor "participate in management", nor "participate on the board." Therefore, as the "investor", he has the autonomy to soak-up the returns on investment into the company... without having a moral-obligation to stand for/with the employees. (How do you invest in a company, enjoy a profit on the backs of the workers, and claim neutrality? Why not invest with the stipulation the workers are paid better? I call bullshit). This "man behind the curtain" strategy seems to erode much of his track record. Not to discredit his honorable philanthropy, but this is a cold-move: to enjoy the SIGNIFICANT economic returns, while leaving himself with an "out" of moral obligation to the employees. If you're familiar with Silverlake, you're likely also familiar with the businesses that rise and fall like historical civilizations, due to the economic strain of ever increasing rent. Similar to the cost of housing in Los Angeles (where it's nearly impossible for two people to maintain a household under joint income), small businesses often struggle to maintain a profit large enough to pay the burden of rent, utilities, personal expense, and inventory. Are these problems caused by Ulukaya? No... But I would argue he contributes to the problem by paying premium rates for (his "investment") rental property, while smaller more local businesses are driven out and cannot afford to stick around. Additionally, the meek 30k salary paid to employees certainly does not make the housing market easier for them. And Ulukaya's abstinence from a leadership role in the company allows him to enjoy the profits from La Colombe, while choosing to step back from moral obligation to community and the employees financial well-being. The coffee is great though. My favorites are the Black and Tan with oat milk $5.50 or the Oatmilk Latte. read more

My original experience with this coffee was from those can packs that they sell at Target and Trader Joes. I loved it. And I like the convenience of having it in my fridge in the morning and still having a coffee to go despite already being 5 minutes late. So when I saw that they had a physical location nearby, it was almost a given that I had to go visit. I went during lunch break, there was no wait, street parking was available, and I was excited. My partner and I went in, got in line, and there were a few people behind the counter but the guy that eventually took our order was also the one making drinks. We're all wearing masks and the place was playing music pretty loud, so when I gave him my order he asked me something but I couldn't hear/understand him. So I asked him to repeat and he was very annoyed and repeated, but again I could not hear him. So when I told him I couldn't hear him, he waved me off with his hand. Then, he asked my partner what his order was and my partner ended up ordering the same thing I did, so again, he asked him a question. And you guessed it, he too could not hear him and by this point the guy taking our order was just over it. He put in our order, left the total on the screen, and just abruptly left. My partner and I both looked at each other like "what just happened?" We got our drinks and left. Didn't even stick around to check the place out. It's unfortunate that others have had similar experiences here with the staff, so it's not just someone having a bad day. There's SO many other coffee shops on the same street that offer good coffee and a more pleasant experience. I can't recommend this place to friends, from the service alone. You ever wonder how many coffee spots Silver Lake needs on Sunset Blvd. Even for this coffee lover, the congestion of coffee spots seem ridiculous at times until I am in a long line to order and thinking that there isn't enough coffee spots... And the line to order was long... It actually wasn't that bad, but there were these two young women who took forever, aka: couldn't decide what they wanted, to order and caused a backlog. When my turn to order came after what seem like a life and a half later, I got down to the business with their draft latte with whole milk. The turn around on those draft latte... Amazingly fast. By the time I made it to the "pick-up" counter, someone else had already snatched it away. So far, no star deduction... This is where that one point deduction happened. When they repeatedly called out "Draft Latte Oat" and no one was picking it up, I asked in a complete sentence- "Is that Draft Latte with whole milk?". I got a short bark of "oat" back. I asked "whole?" and got an "oat" barked at me. When I told him that I ordered with whole milk, the guy barked "oat" at me again. When the cashier turned around and confirmed with him at I ordered with whole milk, then the guy smiled and started talking to me in complete sentences. He apologized and explained that someone else must've grabbed my draft latte. He even tried to have the cashier find the person who may have grabbed one with whole milk until a firm "it's too late" was told by another staff. I get that they must have a handful asking "whole" and "oat" all the time, but barking instead of speaking in complete sentences is rude. It could've been better. It's a very aesthetic, cute new coffee shop on Sunset in Silver Lake. But it just doesn't have the appeal to me that Intelligentsia has. Very aesthetic and airy inside, high ceilings and lots of very minimalist and contemporary styling. I liked it for the most part, although the seating is all VERY uncomfortable. They have weirdly shaped little stools to sit on with small, cramped tables to try and fit this aesthetic they're going for, and it just doesn't feel good at all. Not a good place to come if you want to get some work done or relax and chat for a while. Intelligentsia is much better for that. As for the coffee, it tasted pretty good! Nothing really wrong with it, but nothing incredible either. In an area that's so saturated with coffee shops to choose from, I really just wanted to be impressed a bit more. But I still enjoyed it! It also closes pretty early, which is another detraction on this one when compared to Intelligentsia just down the street, which stays open later. Just patiently waiting in an already formed line inside but felt very unwelcomed by how they ordered us to wait outside, then on top of that to keep the door closed right in our face. Barista didn't seem to have a problem with any of the women waiting in line inside, nor when a girl was the one originally propping the door open so it wasn't awkwardly slamming in our faces.
