WHERE THE DANCERS GO TO EAT This year in 2026 there are two major sporting events in the Bay Area: Super Bowl LX and 2026 World Cup. Even though both sporting events will be in Santa Clara a lot of sport enthusiasts converging to San Francisco to eat. During Super Bowl week a lot of travelers were going to Mission to eat at La Taqueria, which is known for the burritos. My favorite Mexican taqueria on Mission is La Corneta Taqueria. I've been going to La Corneta since 2007 especially before taking hip hop dance classes at Dance Mission. I like the La Corneta's versions of "surf and turf" dishes like steak and shrimp nachos and steak and shrimp quesadilla. The shrimp is plump yet not watery. During Super Bowl week I came to La Corneta for lunch on Friday. I was hungry, but didn't have an urge for a burrito. I had in mind of ordering a crispy taco and quesabirria, which is my guilty-pleasure item in Mexican cuisine. Since the name of the restaurant has corn I plan to order a corn quesadilla. When I entered La Corneta I noticed a special - taco de buche (pork stomach taco). Instead of ordering quesabirria I picked taco du buche. Yet I still ordered the crispy taco and corn quesadilla. For the crispy taco I choose carnitas. For offal ingredients Mexican cuisine does really well cooking those ingredients. The taco de buche is the prime example. Last time I ordered stomach was from a Chinese restaurant. The dish was a spicy stomach. I thought the spices would negate the gamey texture of the stomach. I was wrong as the dish was gamey and slimy; I couldn't finish the spicy stomach. The taco de buche at La Corneta had no aftertaste. The texture was similar to pig ears with a cartilage taste. I like buche better than the tripas. I can eat multiple tacos de buche at La Corneta. The tortilla of corn quesadilla wasn't rough. Also the cheese on the corn quesadilla wasn't oily. The shell of the crispy taco was sturdy not as the flimsy taco shells at Taco Bell. I washed my lunch a beverage of aqua fresca strawberry. There is an abundance of Mexican taquerias on Mission. Before or after taking hip hop dance classes at Dance Mission my go-to Mexican taqueria on Mission is La Corneta Taqueria. read more

I've been wanting to try La Corneta Taqueria, and this was my first time eating there. I ordered two tacos--Al Pastor and Grilled Chicken. The meal also came with free chips and salsa. I was impressed that the tacos had plenty of meat, beans, and salsa. You order and pay at the counter, then wait for your food after paying. There are lots of tables, and water is self-service. I liked the tacos, and they were very filling. I would definitely come back again and recommend the restaurant to friends. read more

Very large and clean taqueria, impressive by Mission District standards. They have a sign on the counter saying they have pork and chicken tamales, but not always. First time I was ther4e they were out of tamales entirely; second time only chicken. Hefty meat-filled, with a bare minimum of masa, on a plate covered with cheese and sauce, and fairly good rice, beans, and salad with. If you've got too much stuff to carry, they'll help carry it to a table, which I really appreciated. read more

I usually go to the La Corneta in Glen Park, but this location is just as amazing! I ordered the super burrito with carne asada and prawns and let me tell you, they do not skimp on the portions. The burrito was massive, packed with flavor, and you can even get it in a spinach tortilla if you prefer. Totally worth it. Their chips and salsa are also a standout because it's fresh, crisp, and clearly made in-house. One big plus about this location: there's plenty of seating. Unlike Glen Park, you won't have to hover awkwardly waiting for a table since there are lots of spots to sit and enjoy your meal. Overall, I'm a big fan of La Corneta, and this spot definitely holds its own. Will absolutely be back! read more

This review is for delivery. My coworkers were craving burritos so recommended this spot for lunch. I'm not a huge fan of burritos, but I wanted to give it a try since my coworker said their burritos were decent. It didn't take long before our order arrived to the office. I was a bit upset when I saw that two of the salsas spilled in the bag. I felt like they should have packaged it better and the bag could have been sturdier. I ended up ordering a carnitas super burrito and it did not disappoint. The meat was tender and everything else in it paired extremely well (i.e. beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, cheese and salsa). The flour tortilla was the perfect balance and wasn't too thick. Each burrito came with chips and salsa. Very impressed with the quality of the burrito, especially since that is something I don't normally order. I would like to try their nachos next time we order from here again. read more

I've been to a few events that had been catered by La Corneta's "Build Your Own Two Bar" and have always loved the food selection and freshness. For my 50th birthday I decided on doing the same. Working with Joel from catering was super easy. Setup and delivery was quick (15 person minimum for delivery - be aware, but it was TOTALLY worth it). The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. My guests had more than enough to eat, we fed the bar staff, and had enough leftovers for multiple meals after (I'm on my 2nd lunch and it reheats beautifully). I stopped in here for lunch after walking around and visiting the cool shops on Valencia Street in the Mission District. The area is also known for its many beautiful street murals which you can't miss walking around. The area is known for its burritos. I rarely if ever order burritos, therefore, I searched for a place with a full Mexican menu. This place fit the parameters. I ordered the chicken and mole plate that comes with rice, beans, tortillas, salsa, and a small salad. Also included at every table were free chips and salsa. I enjoyed my delicious meal with a freshly made agua fresca. I highly recommend a stop here for authentic generous portioned Mexican food at reasonable prices. While enjoying grandstand seating at SF's Carnaval the man beside me returned to his seat with a bag of Mexican food. When he began eating the chips and salsa I got nosy. "Where's that from?" I asked. I'd been eyeing La Corneta, behind me on the riser, and though I saw the overall yelp rating was under 4 stars I was heartened to notice that some trusted yelpers had rated it higher. Then the guy beside me took out a a very big, foil-wrapped burrito and began consuming it. "What are you eating?" I asked now. Taking nothing from Carnaval, let me just say that his Al Pastor Super Burrito looked as good as many of the barely clad Samba dancers parading past. I was going to La Corneta soon. Then another thing happened. "Would you like these 3 Super Chicken Tacos we got? We're leaving soon, can't eat anymore, and don't want to carry them around." So there IS such a thing as a free lunch. He asked only that I pay it forward. Simply delicious, two of us consumed this boxful of tacos with forks, also enjoying the two different salsas and chips that were included with the tacos. I've never been inside of La Corneta but I've no doubt I will be one day. And when I am? Stopped by La Corneta today and I'm so glad I did! The place has that authentic neighborhood taqueria vibe, nothing fancy, just good honest Mexican food done right. I went with the super carne asada quesadilla and wow, this thing was massive! They definitely don't skimp on the filling here. The carne asada was perfectly seasoned and tender, with just the right amount of char. The chips and salsa were a nice touch too. The green salsa had a good kick to it, and the red one was more smoky and mild. The location on 24th Street puts you right in the heart of the Mission, so it's perfect for grabbing a bite while exploring the neighborhood. I went here the other day and got a super nacho and a drink. I nachos was basically almost 6 shrimp and just as little amount of meat. I mean the food was decent but why am I paying for a super and basically all you gave me was a ton of refried beans and salsa to hide that im getting ripped off. Awesome spot. Service is fast and super friendly, and the tacos themselves are absolutely massive for the price. Definitely some of the largest tacos you can get in the Mission, and without a wait. The carne was my favorite, the best I've had in SF. Super flavorful and tender. The other meats were solid too; definitely recommend both the carnitas and the al pastor. Their pickled onions are absolutely amazing. Definitely ask for a ton of those, since they don't have a self serve area for them. Overall, great underrated spot in the Mission. La Corneta Taqueria is one of my go to Taqueria's for quick food delivered or picked up. Although I mostly order from the Glen Park location, I often order from the Mission Street location for Catering. My go to orders are the following: - Surf & Turf Super Burrito, love the big prawns. -Nachos, I love them. When I was pregnant I had cravings for Nachos and would make a meal of these. Still love them. - Chile Relleno Burritos! So savory and delicious. - Tostada de Ceviche, for $4.75 - good and inexpensive fish or shrimp ceviche. I love, love, love the salsas (especially the orange habanero one) and pickled onions with habaneros. I like it spicy, but they also have other salsas that are so flavorful. read more

It's a casual place where the food comes out fast! The music is pretty loud so it can be a bit hard to talk normally in the main areas. They're generous with their portions and give free chips! This time around, I thought the meat was a little tough on the tacos. read more

This is one of the best casual Mexican restaurants in San Francisco's Mission District. Unfortunately if you just look for Mexican food in the mission District under Yelp, it doesn't show up unless you name it specifically.That's probably because it does not pay Yelp. So when using Yelp, please be aware that some of the best restaurants are hidden because Yelp wants money to show you. Yelp has really gone downhill. I'm a fan of Mexican food however I don't know how I've missed this place. I will post a more extensive review after my next few visits. My Guest and I both ordered burritos. I got a baby burrito (carnitas) which I upgraded to a super burrito. The chips and salsa were superb. This all sounds very basic, but since food prices have gone up I have noticed the quality of food going down at the same time. Luckily this was not the case at La Corneta. Good size portions too. I can't wait to go back, I'll be trying the chile Riano's next time and my partner mentioned fajitas. I will be updating because I'm a little angry about the fact that I would've gone to an inferior place if I had listened to Yelp. Service was great, and the ambience was great. The food is excellent, however if you're getting it TO-GO, be sure to CHECK your receipt. They charge you 25 cents for a bag automatically in addition to your order, despite one carrying it out yourself. Admittedly, it's not much, but why pay more for non-service? Great place! We were greeted as soon as we walked in as you have to go to the counter order your food then pay at the end of the counter. The menu has a lot of options but we ordered tacos and my husband ordered quesabirria tacos. We also ordered a Jamaica water. The place is pretty big with plenty of seating and a little loud since it's busy but nothing you can't handle. My husband said they were one of the best quesabirria he's had in a while so he was happy. I ordered 1 chicken mole taco and it was very interesting but good. We will be back again! read more

I have a soft spot for La Corneta, especially this location, because I used to work across the street. There's less seating now (no doubt a lasting effect from the pandemic) but it's still a large space and plenty of patrons dining with us on a Thursday evening after work. Service is still fast and friendly. After you place your order, you'll walk to the end of the counter to tell the cashier your order, pay, and collect your drinks. I like their agua frescas and went with a small jamaica. Pick your seats and they'll deliver your food to you! My go-to meat is carnitas and I chose it as my protein for my huge platter of super nachos. Pretty good, but not like I remember - their tortilla chips seem thicker, but still good corn flavor!. Some misses - no self-serve salsa station like the old days, and the bathroom could be maintained better. When in the neighborhood though, La Corneta is always an option! read more

I will never stop coming here. I absolutely love the shrimp tacos and the salmon quesadilla. The seafood is so fresh and flavorful, and you get a lot of bang for your buck.
