This is a Taiwanese restaurant not too far from my office. I stumbled across it one day and found it's pork chop rice to be very authentic. It's quite pricey but being in an affluent neighborhood like Arcadia it's part of the game. Waitress offered me hot sauce and it went quite well with the veggies. Sinbala has always been my childhood favorite in my hometown, Arcadia. From the boba drinks, and shaved ice desserts, all the way to the savory dishes like Beef Noodle Soup and Pork Chop Rice! The restaurant has definitely changed over the years in price and portion sizes but it's still the same delicious-tasting food. After my boyfriend and I discovered we were both loyal patrons of Sinbala when we were kids, of course we had to come back and try it on a night. We got the Fried Pork Chop Rice, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and the signature Sinbala Sausage and Garlic. My order - the Beef Spicy Noodle Soup, was wonderfully rich and decadent. The beef in there was tender and very flavorful. The best way to top it all off is the sour veggies on top - that is what always makes the Beef Noodle Soup dish for me. My boyfriend said the fried pork chop was very crispy and had a great bite/crunch to it. My favorite part of the Fried Pork Chop Rice was the corn on the side actually! Now that pork chop rice has gone up to $15 (not nearly as good as "Why Thirsty" in San Gabriel) and the quality still remains sub-par, I cannot honestly recommend Sinbala. Their other dishes, also of middling quality, are really homecooking food that you can easily make at home, for a lot less money. I guess the owner of Sinbala just got too complacent and stopped taste-testing their own food a long time ago (as all good chefs must do). Like the soup here tastes a little sweeter than other places, and the noodles are a little flatter and thicker. If you are looking for the BEST Taiwanese sausage, look no further. Sinbala has the best and most authentic Taiwanese sausage in all of SGV. In fact, the store name, "Sinbala" is what people used to yell when they roll the dice to win free sausages at the sausage street cart in Taiwan's night market. That is the origin of the name of the restaurant. I've been coming here since it opened in 2003, 19 years ago. The food and flavor have stay consistently good which is not easy to do. The only change has been the rise in prices. In addition to the Taiwanese sausage rice plate which comes with 3 sides: cabbage, corn and eggs, their oyster omelette, dry noodles, meatball soup, cold noodles, glutinous meatball and shaved ice are all my favorites! You can get the sausages frozen and take them home to cook later. There are instructions on the package on how to cook them. I like to boil them first and then air fry them. They go really well in fried rice or just as they are sliced up paired with fresh garlic and eat as snacks or a side dish. Their shaved ice is really good too. It is refreshing and satisfying especially for the hot summer days we've been having. Get it with condensed milk as it is super yummy and feels luxurious. I've been here for years and it really has been one of the best Taiwanese food places...pre-Covid anyhow. Came here to meet a friend today for lunch. Learned quickly that though things still tasted similar, portions have gotten significantly smaller and prices have jumped significantly higher. So the catch is now whether it's worth the cost for similar foods available in other locations. They are known for their Taiwanese sausage, and it still tastes good. The shrimp ball noodle stew I got tasted quite delicious too, just really a lot smaller than before, and with less ingredients. Our friend got pork belly rice, and that too tasted fine, but very small. I totally get inflation and rising rents, in addition to supply issues everywhere. And we want to support our local businesses as well. But there's a fine line and balance where the food may not be as exceptional as the prices charged. My picture of the menu shows current price, and this is at least a 3rd version of price hikes, yikes! Overall, taste was fine, but pricier than worth in my opinion. Last night was my first time trying this place. Upon arrival, we were seated right away. I ordered a sausage rice plate (13$+) & popcorn chicken (9$+). I thought the sausage rice was good. Aside from it being over cooked, I thought the chicken was pretty juicy when it came to flavor. Definitely not worth over 9$ though. They also didn't have actual sweet & sour/sweet chili sauce for the chicken. When they brought me the sweet & sour sauce I asked for, it looked very different and tasted very light in flavor compared to how it would normally taste. I mainly order their Sinbala sausage rice and oyster pancake. They also have a variety of rice, noodle, soup, and snack dishes to choose from. It is about $11 for the shaved ice and you get to choose five different toppings (I get boba, grass jelly, rice balls, condensed milk, and taro balls). They put a sugary syrup in their ice so it isn't just plain and tastes sweet. Service is a hit or miss but I'm kind of used to it at this point. On weekends, they do seem to get busy and there is sometimes a wait that ranges from 10-20 minutes. I wish Sinbala wasn't so out of the way all the way in Arcadia, because I'd like to come more often. COLD CHICKEN NOODLE: My friend has been coming here for years and he normally orders this dish so I decided to give it a try. According to my friend, they pre-make these and store them in the fridge so they're always the first dish to come out to the table. They pretty much came out right after we placed our orders. They also give you some garlic and chili oil on the side and you can add as much as you like based on your tastes - I just dumped both of them in. Their chili oil isn't spicy at all, it was more sweet. This is basically your typical cold peanut noodle dish, but theirs seems to be on the sweeter side which could be because of the chili oil. It was super refreshing to eat this on a hot day and I would probably order this again the next time I come back. SINBALA SAUSAGE: This place is known for their Sinbala Sausage Rice but since none of us felt like ordering the full entrée, we just ordered a side of the sausage itself to share among the table instead. The side dish doesn't look like much, but I'd say if you aren't mixing it into a rice-based dish or anything, it's probably enough to share between 4-6 people. I used to love this place as my favorite Taiwanese restaurant back when I was younger but as new restaurants emerged with higher quality and better pricing, I decided to give it one more try without much expectations. I got the chicken cold noodles. Most of their food aside from noodles and side dishes are fried (chicken rice plates for example). A 2 weeks ago the price of a cold noodle with chicken was 9 dollars. Now it is 11 dollars as of last week (according to the managers). I think the price to taste + volume is just not worth it anymore and I'm disappointed. I couldn't even pay with my credit card. Having recently discovered La Simbala, I've quickly become a fan. Their food and especially the desserts are all good, and the service is friendly. I've come most often for the massive shaved ice which offers options of a wide variety of traditional toppings - the almond tofu is especially so flavorful and delicious! The deep fried pork chop dry noodle was disappointing because the pork chop was kinda dry and the noodles lacked depth & flavor. Taiwanese sausage is different from Chinese sausage...it's sweeter. The portion size is more than enough and it comes with some steamed vegetables, scrambled eggs, and corn. If it's your first time visiting, either order the sausage rice or get a side of sausages at least. Cold Chicken Noodle: My go to dish. There's nothing more refreshing than some cold noodles on a hot day. These are all pre made and stored in the fridge so it's always the first dish that comes out. The peanut sauce has a very peanut-y flavor and it's more sweet than salty. Mix it in with the noodles, chicken and cucumbers. Comes with chili oil and garlic too! Chicken Nugget: It's really popcorn chicken. Fried to perfection, sprinkled with fried basil. It doesn't come with a dipping sauce but the coating has enough flavor. Meat was juicy! Steam Vegetable with Minced Meat Sauce: I need my veggie dish and this is such a simple one. I think it's A-choy...which is a classic Taiwanese side dish. The vegetables are cooked in meat juices, which gives it so much more flavor. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Arcadia. Terrible experience. I used to go here often before. So I decided to take my mom and show her what it's all about. The food was good, but portions were not like before. It was definitely more expensive. I paid and needed to leave earlier since I had an appointment. I noticed there was no receipt, so I took whatever receipt was left at the table. Next thing you know, my mom called me and said that they were looking for the receipt and something else. I drove back to return the receipt which by now they were waiting for me at the parking lot. When I returned the receipt they asked why I didn't leave more tip. They stood there blocking the parking lot until I give more tip. Sinbala just HITS THE SPOT everytime. It's been a while since I've been here and a friend was craving it so we decided to stop by after a hike. I ordered the popcorn chicken rice and guava green tea. My friends got the cold noodle, shaved ice, oyster pancake, watermelon juice, and a sausage rice. It was a lot of food. I was able to share my popcorn chicken rice and split it between 3 people and we still had leftover chicken. The chicken was well popcorned and super flavorful and juicy (all dark meat). The rice and veggies were ample and delicious. The guava green tea was very sweet but I honestly needed the sugar after a long hot hike. The shaved ice was good and it was packed so that the ice and toppings are separate, even the sugar sauce is separate and the ice didn't even melt at all during the long 15 minute drive back.
