Where else do you get Burmese food in Vancouver??? Usually I will order Burmese milk tea with my meal but the last 2x I went they only served canned soft drink. I felt my meal was incomplete :( Must have Laksa, broth is a perfect coconut infused broth. Lots of toppings including 2 prawns, curried chicken, fish balls, tofu puffs, hardboiled egg, bean sprouts, jalapeno slices, lime, red onion and laska leaf with your choice of egg noodles or vermicelli A good complement to laska would be the roti canai which is very fluffy, chewy and crunchy. read more

First time going here and I was impressed. We ordered the roti, beef skewers, laksa and the pineapple rice. I also got the Burmese milk tea which was tasty but nothing to write home about; tasted like a steeped tea from Tim Hortons. Prefer thai iced tea or HK style milk tea. The roti was crispy but still soft on inside and the sauce was so good we used it for the skewers as well. The skewers had a weird texture and lacked in flavour but tasted good with the roti sauce. Laksa wasn't too spicy and had fish balls, hard boiled egg, chicken and bean sprouts. Boyfriend had the pineapple rice - said had good flavour but chicken was colder temperature the the rest of dish and was probably added after. Though they were moist and had good texture. Heard about Laksa King from a few people, and decide to try it out for lunch. Read some of the reviews, both good and bad. I can only comment from my experience and the dishes we have tried. We will need to go back and try the other dishes to get a better sense overall. First up, Green mango salad. Looks great and tasted great. Portion can be larger, and presentation would look better on a plate rather than a bowl. Three and a half star here. Second up the laksa. Being Malaysian background, I would say the laksa is very good for a restaurant, good flavor. For $8.75, that's very good. Four stars. Lastly was the Mee goring. Overall taste was good, presentation could be better, and a bit more meat. Three stars. I think because it was not busy, we had no issues with the service. Being a family business, Asian style, it is what it is. Bottom line, we would go back to check the other items on the menu. read more

I don't even care that it took 10 minutes for the server to notice we were there - the food was THAT GOOD (and it came quickly). Laksa: amazing. I've never had this dish before and now that I look back on my last 30 years, I can't help but regret it took this long to make the discovery. The chicken in it is the best chicken I've had in my life - tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. (I did only start eating chicken about a year ago.) The soupyness of this dish is just unbelievable - coconutty, mildly spicy and definitely memorable. My tastebuds are now salivating, just writing about it. I wish I was joking. Pad thai: the best thing I can say about this pad thai is that it doesn't seem to have any ketchup. This is amazing. For some reason, I can't seem to find ketchup-free pad thai in Vancouver. I can't understand why it's impossible to find pad thai in this city that doesn't leave me feeling sad and disappointed after I'm done, but I think I just discovered gold here. The pad thai at this place has a distinct tamarind flavour and just the right amount of prawns, tofu and other pad thai goodness. Not the best pad thai I've ever had (i like crispy tofu in my pad thai, but this didn't have that; I also think the noodles bunched together a lot and it's a little on the too tangy side), but I can't find better in this city. PS. They have a $2 bubble tea special right now! including pearls! They also have flavoured iced teas. While lychee flavour is listed on the menu, they claim to not have it. I have been coming to this restaurant for quite some time, since the beginning of this incarnation of the restaurant. I generally have the roti canai, beef rendang, or laksa. I have noticed the quality of the roti canai declining over time which is disappointing as it was my favorite in Vancouver. The laksa has remained pretty much the same, but the quality of the beef rendang has definitely been reduced. Tonight I had the chicken and basil Thai fried rice... I had been here before when fellow foodie, Vincent N. took me. The food was pretty good then, but as the name was Bo LAKSA, I felt I should review it until I had the laksa. Fast forward about a year later and I read Andy's review on Bo Laksa (http://www.andyeatsalot.com/2011/06/14/bo-laksa-kings-bubble-bits/) and decided to go on a whim as I thought I could use some coconut broth today. The place was small, the furniture isn't high end, but who cares when the food is quite good. The Laksa was very good, not the best I've had, but pretty up there. It comes with bean sprouts, prawns, beef, hard boiled egg, slice of lime, red onion, yellow noodles (or you can choose vermicelli), and a fish ball. Authentic Southeast Asian food at decent prices! I drove past the place a few times yet never found the time to try it out until some recommended it. Then I also read really positive reviews from fellow Yelpers and that got me there for lunch. I love that there's free street parking. The decore is simple but cheerful. The focus is on the awesome food. That laksa was amazing. That broth was kickass good, it was spicy, with hints of curry flavour and creamy from the coconut milk. Unfortuanetly I could use a few more more rice vermecilli noodles in that piping hot bowl. I devoured it in no time. Since the portion was on the skimpy side, I got a small order of roti. That "pancake" was fluffy but not too greasy. I also liked the curry dipping sauce. Service was quick and friendly. Great place for a quick bite. read more

Didn't realized they closed between the hours of 3-5:30. Ended up waiting an hour till they open again at 5:30. Interior design is like an eighties diner but table was quite unstable. Ordered their special laksa noodles and pineapple fried rice. Both came in small portions. Taste were little below average but price were higher than I expected - especially for their portion. The Roti Canai is a flaky, chewy fried pancake. In the middle of both was a curry chicken dipping sauce that was a little watery for a curry sauce but had some what a good flavour to it. Anyway, it didn't really matter, we were happy that roti was ridiculously big and hot! We ordered the large which consists of two roti - the small has only one. In retrospect, we could've just shared one but we both enjoyed our own. Now onto the Laksa. Our laksa came out before our roti - but it wasn't a long wait in between. According to the menu, the laksa consists of tiger prawn, fish ball, tofu puff, hardboiled egg, chicken and house-made coconut curry broth. My laksa came in an enormous bowl of shrimp (not tiger prawn), sliced fish balls, tofu puffs, a hardboiled egg and beef. I was kind of disappointed that it was just shrimp - but I was happy I got beef instead of chicken as the beef was very tasty. There was also some bean sprouts, sliced purple onion, sliced jalapeno pepper, basil and lime added on the top of it. I liked the perfectly balanced flavour of the soup, it wasn't too spicy which is perfect for most people. I love spicy dishes, but this is perfect for people who want a good kick without having to drink ten glasses of water. Great, decent food at a decent price. We call it a true gem in the city! It's quite authentic and one of our party was born in Malaysia, so the south east Asian flavours were excellent. The spiciness can be a bit intimidating for some who are not used to the intense nature, and it can occasionally be hit and miss as to the strength so be forewarned. The only Burmese restaurant to my knowledge in Vancouver. After being a regular at Burmese Kitchen in SF, I was craving an authentic bowl of Mohinga (fish noodle soup) and a tea leaf salad. The soup is served with cilantro, chili and byakaw (yellow split pea fritters). A nice crunch which gets added to the top. Nice flavor, it fills you up nicely. Don't expect to find pieces of fish in the soup -- it's more of a fish broth. I loved the tea leaf salad. It's made with tea leaves which only grow on the south coast of Burma. One of the more unique dishes available in Vancouver. It's made with garlic, pickled tea leaves (key ingredient), dried shrimp, toasted sesame seeds, yellow beans, peanuts and tomato slices. Great combination of ingredients, tastes and textures all the while feeling healthy. Highly recommend you try it. read more

This place is awesome for the laksa that it makes. Coming from someone who loves laksa and has had many bowls of it in this lifetime, I'd say that's something. The ambience isn't anything great but if you care more about food quality, then you may not mind it. The fifth star really comes from the awesome service that this little family business provide. Once I showed up at 3.45pm with a friend and they were closed. While we were humming and hawing outside about where to go for our late lunch (there isn't too much else around there), the owner came out and invited us in. I decided to try this place since my favourite Seri Malaysia decided not to renew their lease :( A member of the group was from SE Asia, and I've been numerous southeast Asian countries, and l I can say was that it was extremely disappointing... I was not impressed by any of the 5 dishes we ordered from here, even the Bubble Tea was awful. So far, Bo Laksa King Bubbles & Bits has been the best Laksa I have had in Vancouver. I went here with a group of seven (six Malaysians and myself). THe place is quite small with only about 6 tables and a couple of couches. As you walk into the place, you get the amazing smell of laksa coming from the vent. I came for laksa, so that is what I ordered. I had the yellow and vermicelli mix noodles. According to my Malaysian partner, the yellow noodles are the real thing, which can be hard to find. I was not disappointed with the amazing flavor. After two months in Malaysia with REAL spice, Bo Laksa King Bubbles & Bits was the perfect 'sssss' spiciness. The reason I gave this place only four stars is because the service isn't a five star experience. I would give the service a three star and the food a five. So, head to Bo and get you a-laska of laska. And as always, Have Fun!!! read more

Laksa was really good and service was excellent. Roti was a pass and not Malaysian style. It was a thick chewy pancake. The decor is a little confusing as they have kept the 60s diner tables, order booth and wall art. Will come back again and try a few more dishes. read more

Bo Laksa King once operated out of a small corner inside a small convenience store - Joyce-Way Food Market. Customers would flock here for take out or to eat between the tiny aisles. Comfort would be forsaken just for a bowl of mildly spicy, fragrantly coconut-y, creamy but not too heavy laksa noodle soup. Now with its own store front and paired bubble tea, you can enjoy a bowl (or two) of Bo's infamous soup with a little more comfort. Staying true to its roots, the restaurant is nothing fancy. Perhaps even a dive you may argue. But you can't deny a good great tasting, authentic bowl of laksa when you taste one. May I argue that it is perhaps Vancouver's best laksa available. Laksa 8.75: your choice of vermicelli or yellow noodles served with tiger prawns, fish ball, tofu puff, hard boil egg, chicken and house made authentic flavor coconut curry broth. As mentioned above, it is probably the best in the Lower Mainland - even better than Penang Delight. Roti Canai 3.99 s | 6.99 l: homemade authentic Malaysian pastry pancake served with chicken curry dipping sauce. The Roti had a nice thickness, a nice stretch, and a crispy flake outside. The sauce was colorful and rich with flavors of coconut cream, cloves, star anise, chili powder and probably some trade secret. Green mango Salad 8.50: shredded green mango, cabbage, fried onions, garlic, crushed peanuts, dry shrimp mix with house made lime vinaigrette dressing. Fried onions and garlic adds a nice crunch and some earthy flavors to mellow out the acidity. I like the option of green mango also as opposed to always green papaya. Chilli Tomato Seafood Rice 12.50: Stir fried squid, cod, shrimp, scallop, red onions, bell peppers in a house made spicy chilli tomato sauce. The dish was a bit disappointing. Definitely not what I expected. I was hoping for a dry stir fry with some heat, but instead it came watery like something from Campbell's soup. We came here as the cafe a few blocks down where we had intended to go was closed for some reason. We were hungry and we were willing to try something different, therefore, we came here. I had the coconut beef curry with rice. They way it was plated it doesn't look like much from the naked eye, however, there was actually plenty to be served and it was filling. The prices were very reasonable with the portions. Service was a bit slow in spite of us only being one of the few and no one came by to check on us. read more

When I need some yum! This place is very delicious. I usually share with a friend or two so I can get a variety of things. Start with the papaya salad which is quite spicy, but very good. The the pad thai (vegetarian) and the eggplant. Reasonably priced. Decor leaves is basic, but isn't a dealbreaker for a casual dinner or lunch. Just wish the chairs weren't so wobbly. I miss the crazy Milo monster bubble tea creation they used to have. read more

Although the decor is very strange (a '50s neon diner look taken over unchanged), seating cramped, cash only, and they play muzak/elevator music, I still easily give them 4.5 stars for the awesome food and friendly owners. I've been here a dozen times at least and come back over and over again for their roti canai (5 stars) and green papaya salad (5 stars). The Laksa is hearty and very rich. I don't like their rendang beef as much as some other spots on lonsdale and I have yet to try the curries as I'm still making my way through the noodle dishes. Order the roti canai, such delicious parata, flaky and buttery and soft... but beware that they don't give out double the sauce if you order the double roti so you'll be fighting with your table mates for dipping sauce! read more

Laksa King provides good food at reasonable prices (cash only). The roti was tasty and the beef rendang was good, but both were lacking a certain 'pow' to the spice flavours - in comparison to Banana Leaf, for example. I also ordered a noodle dish, number 34, and a couple of spring rolls. All that for about $30 for two people to eat well. Can't complain! I like the family-run aspect of the place and the service was efficient. The decor is weird for the place but that just gives it character. The ventilation is poor in the restaurant and our clothes smelled like the food the day after. When I return, I'm going to try a couple of different dishes on the menu for a bit more variety. read more

UPDATE: THEY DO HAVE EXTRA NOODLES!!! 5 STARS 5 STARS One of my friends recommended this place for our weekly meet up and I took it upon myself to check out the place on Yelp beforehand to see what others had to say. Many people had a complaint that the sizes were a bit small for the price, and that service was slower than most places. In my opinion, the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. The laksa had just the perfect amount of kick (I'm not big on spicy), and the coconut milk in the soup was extremely fragrant. I will have to agree that the amount of noodles was a little lacking, but I wouldn't have minded to pay a little extra to get another portion of noodles. For the quality of the food, I didn't mind the 5+ minute wait. That being said, we also went in as a group of 10, making it even more excusable for the small delay. From my observation, the place seems to be a family-run business. Our waiter (who I assume was the owner's son) was extremely welcoming and gave an effort to give us a little chit chat while we were waiting. He even commented how our group completely quieted down after the food arrived and we started eating (Yes, it was THAT good). I felt completely satisfied with my meal and if I had a choice, I'd give them a 4.5 just on the fact that there wasn't an option to have extra noodles (I think. This use to be an old diner with red vinyl seats located up the block from Vancity. I went there with my family and it was definitely a 3/5. Pros: - Prices seem really reasonable: $8-$12 - This is a mom & pop family run restaurant & perhaps daughter serving. Service was great. The place was packed quickly at 6pm. - Roti popular and although we didn't order it want to try for next time - Cold squid with chilli peppers was nice. - Food generally okay - I am not familiar with this type of food but it was in the salty side for me: especially with fried rice, lamb curry, saucy brown yellow noodles with chicken or beef - The papaya salad was okay it was strange with tofu and other things in it. Compared to the Vietnamese style papaya salad with jerky this definitely was not as good honestly - The skewers was good seem pre heated - Yes cash only! Royal bank @ London drugs and Vancity down the block & plenty of other banks. - yellow noodles preferable but the brown soya sauce seemed to give it too much of a saucy salty taste. Delicious, spicy, savoury and sweet. Actually reminds me of the kind of food I'd return to again and again when I was in Southeast Asia. Family-run, priced just right! Go for the food, not for the atmosphere. They have the best laksa. Like other members have mentioned, this is the place to get your LAKSA on! It's got lots of flavours and spicing that I haven't had in any other laksa in town - perhaps it's the laksa leaf? Wish I knew more about Malaysian and Burmese cooking to figure out the spicing! The Spicy Squid Salad was very good as well - tender pieces of squid served in a marinade of lime juice and fish sauce with lots of thinly sliced chilis, green onions, red onions, carrots and possibly friend shallots over shredded lettuce. AH-mazing flavours and while indeed spicy, it wasn't suicidally hot either ;) My only complaint about this place is that it sometimes closes between 3:30-5:30 and the owners take a few days for holidays here and there which are unnanncounced. Also, it would help have a website that works. Just call before heading out if you're making a trek like I do. Also they are CASH only. read more

I don't know what everyone is raving about, this place was horrible!!! Laksa was not authentic, used chicken satay instead of fresh chicken and using frozen shrimp in all the dishes was unacceptable. The chicken satay was over salty and peanut sauce was just peanut butter mixed with soy sauce and threw in some peanuts, the side of rice was not cooked properly. Nasi Goreng was okay (except for the frozen shrimp) and the roti was the best part. We will definitely never come in here again. Want good Laksa go to CoCo Hut in Richmond read more

Absolutely tasty and wonderful laksa broth Average clealiness, sub-par service, hip decor with neon lights INSIDE, comfy red couches to sit, though. table was rocking due to uneven ground or broken leg. Waste of a pratha - uncooked, super greasy, and served with a "chicken gravy" which was basically water and some spices without any meat or veggies or anything inside Laksa, which should be the best thing here, was only average with tasteless fish cakes and big pieces of chicken that were stale. More over, they already served it with sprouts and even a lemon wedge inside the bowl (not as a separate topping in a plate). read more

It used to be four star before. Now I would not even call it one star worth. Prices have increased by at least 50%. Quantity has decreased by half. And quality has gone down the drain. We ordered take out from here thinking it would be less than 50. Okay they increased the price so it turns out to be 70 instead. I can live with it. When I open the food at home, we were still hungry after the food. And the quality, I would rather eat McDonald's. oily as hell, no flavour, shitty quantity. Don't know what happen to this place. I've always been meaning to try this place so my friend and I decided to have lunch here. Very easy to find parking, there are tons of 1-hour street parking in front. We ordered their roti canai and beef skewers, I had their Laska with mixed noodles (vermicelli and yellow noodles), and my friend ordered a rice dish. The roti canai was soft, crispy, and delicious. It was homemade. I enjoyed the laska because it wasn't too spicy and I can't really handle extremely spicy food. The skewers were a bit tough but I really liked the side of coconut rice (I think that's what it is) and peanut sauce. The owner is very nice! This place is very accommodating as well.
