If you're a local, making the trip to the Strip can yield a great reward-o at... Lardo is a Portland, OR restaurant that started as a food cart in 2010. They're well-known for their gourmet take on sandwiches and are often regarded as one of the better places to visit while on vacation in that city. Now they've made their way to Las Vegas as part of the Block 16 Urban Food Hall on the second floor of the Cosmopolitan, a shared space across from Holstein's and next to the entrance to Marquee. My friends and I came here yesterday to do our own little food crawl. We shared two of the seven sandwiches on the menu, although we did skip the guest "Chefwich" and the fries because we wanted to save room for the other Block 16 inhabitants. Porchetta ($15): delicious roast pork served with gremolata, caper mayo, parmesan, and arugula. Easy to eat with the soft ciabatta. I did wish that I had a little bit more of the crispy skin, but cost aside, I'll give a slight nod to this as the best porchetta sandwich in town on the basis of the bread. Pho'rench Dip ($14): shaved beef, hoisin, sambal mayo, Thai basil, pho broth. It's also served on soft ciabatta, which you can use to soak up the addictive albeit sweet and not fully authentic broth. That aside, I think that they're drawing inspiration rather than claiming faithful reproduction, so I can excuse them and just call this another delicious sandwich. I do have to balk at the prices here at Lardo, even if they're only marked up by $1 to $3 compared to the original location (although that beer pricing looks absurd). The reason is that I can find similar or even more delicious sandwiches at a lower cost by a local favorite of mine. Lardo is therefore not the best available sandwich spot, but second-best is worth a try too. (UPDATE 10/21/18: The Bronx Bomber, $15, is pretty good too. The person who came up with PhoRench Dip should win a Nobel prize for Asian Fusion dishes in my humble opinion. If you love pho and if you love sandwich and soup, this sandwich is for you! I usually eat pho with no hoisin sauce and lots of sriracha but in this dish, the hoisin sauce works really well. Do not be afraid of dipping or dunking the sandwich to the soup. The broth-soaked bread intensifies the sweet hoisin sauce in the sandwich. I have never had any strong opinion on dipping or not dipping but here I believe that Ameria runs on dunkin. The dirty fries were everything that was described on the menu. I could taste fried fresh thyme. It has big chunks of salty pork that were as good as any crisp pork belly you can get in ramen shops. They call the pieces the scrap pork but they are actually quality pork but very tasty. It also had a giant chunk of shaved parmesan like those you get on charcuterie board and I could taste intense parmesan in tiniest slivers, not like those that are possibly made of wood chips in other restaurants. The marinated peppers added a refreshing crunch in this rich dish. It was nice to be distracted by fresh tasting herb and peppers in the rich fries dish. My husband went to get an eggslut sandwich. He is still stuck in line while I am eating like a queen here in the Piggly wiggly Lardo. I got a combo of fries, a drink, and a sandwich for $30 because I was splurging. The sandwich is big enough to make you full! I just really wanted to try the dirty fries knowing that I would not get this type of fries anywhere else anytime soon. Another nice surprise for me is that there was bottled UNSWEETENED ICED TEA. I have given up trying to find unsweetened drinks in a bottle but this place delivered it. Located on the second floor of the cosmopolitan, it's a good option among many in the food court. We stopped by after (sadly) missing the wicked spoon cutoff, but this is pretty filling and good so no big complaints. We got the burger and Korean pork shoulder sandwich with an order of the loaded fries, which was more than enough food for 2. The Korean sandwich had a bit mayo so maybe ask for that on the side if you're not big on sauces. I should've went for the pho sandwich instead of the burger just because it's a unique one (that's on me) but no other complaints! Order the Sancho Grilled Cheese Sandwich. One thing to note about me: I'm a child at heart. That being said, I love trying elevated versions of my favorite childhood meals, i.e. mac and cheese, quesadillas, and yes, grilled cheese sandwiches. I took a bite of the grilled cheese here and I felt complete, as if I had been trying to describe something for years and was finally able to put into words exactly what I wanted to convey. I found my identity in this sandwich. The sourdough bread on both sides was crispy but still fresh, not stale as sourdough sometimes like to do after being cooled down. It was easy to take a bite, the meat also never gave us a hard time. Well marinated, seasoned, and cooked, the meat gave the entire sandwich a 10/10. I also appreciated the double layer of cheese: both sides had melted cheddar. This meal right here, more specifically the Sancho Grilled Cheese, was the highlight of my entire Vegas trip. read more

This is the location I visited. I ordered the Bronx Bomber. It is a shaved steak sandwich, with cheese, lettuce, and pickled​ peppers. It was delicious! I don't know how to describe the bun, but I loved it - it had this perfectly baked micro-thin crispy crust. I also had an order of fries. The fries were sprinkled with herbs (a nice touch). The food ain't cheap: my sandwich was $15, and the fries were $5. $20 is pretty heavy for a sandwich and fries. Tonight I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Lardo.. Lardo is one of a cluster of options to eat on the second floor of cosmopolitan and they along with the others are open until 12 AM .... My dad and I are staying at the cosmo this weekend and rushed back after a concert. Starving and it was 11:55, perfect! 5 minutes before close. All of the joints were accepting patrons, my dad doesn't like sushi, or chicken so we chose Lardo. We stand there for a minute and the employee at that restaurant tells us they are only helping the two people in line in front of us and we should go to the chicken place instead. At this point I show them the time "it's 11:57" the woman wouldn't budge and suggested chicken again.. here for 2 more days and won't go back. Very rude! read more

Sandwiches places don't usually catch my eye. But when they feature a burnt end grilled cheese on their menu, I get pretty curious. Hubby and I were around for an evening of grabbing bites here and there at the Cosmo, so we decided to give this place a try. We got the grilled cheese along with dirty fries. This area was decently crowded, but we managed to find ourselves a table. After maybe a ten minute wait, our name was called and food was ready. I have so many fears of sub-par sandwiches - crappy quality bread, bread that's too thick and not toasted enough, not enough cheese, cheese that doesn't have enough flavor, meat that doesn't have enough flavor. Sandwiches can so easily turn into a cement block of calories that just aren't enjoyable. But this Sancho, as it's called, was delicious! The bread was toasted, light, crunchy. The cheese and meat were tender and flavorful. It paired perfectly with the dirty fries which were generously tossed with Parmesan, rosemary and peppers. We split an order of the Lardo fries (it's a huge portion!) and the Sancho's grilled cheese (burnt ends, pickled jalapeños, cheese, & shredded lettuce). The combination of ingredients on the sandwich is brilliant! I can't wait to try re-creating it at home. The bread was grilled well, managing to maintain its crispness despite its long walk back to our room. Delicious! A lot of thought and skillful execution between two slices of bread. I love those threads of Korean Pork Shoulder. The meat is marinated all the way through, and the house kimchi adds an acidic bite. The Pho'Rench Dip is a little lighter, and the shaved beef is very tender. with a dash of hoisin and mayo. Dipped in pho, the broth fills in all the nooks and crannies and soaks into the bread while clinging to the beef. Try the Dirty Fries too if you're feeling gluttonous or just get them as a main if you're not feeling a sandwich. The pork scraps and pickled peppers make it pop. I expected just sandwiches at Lardo. They are "just" sandwiches, but they're great sandwiches, and they're satisfying minus the grossness and regret. read more
