The hype is real with this place. The chicken sandwich was amazing here! It is a bit on the sweeter side of the sauce, but it really wasn't overpowering. The chicken stayed crispy throughout and I love how there's more chicken than bread. I'm not usually a fan of pickles, but their pickles were a very refreshing pairing with the sandwich. They serve you a whole Big Bird at this joint. Whether you order the tendies or the sando, you're getting the whole chicken. Look at my pictures! It's almost overwhelming how it's bigger than your head. I was sold on both, although I would have been cool with just the tenders. It's got some good crisp to the skin. The sandwich ended up being a little too wet for my taste with the cabbage and kale slaw and sweet pickles and honey mustard. I still ate everything that fell out of my hands like a salad. I enjoyed the blue corn bread and the delightfully delectable Steen's butter it comes with. I came here with a friend on a weekday and was greeted by the awesome staff. It was our first time there and they had no issue talking us through their various selections and sides to make our meal amazing. I finally tried this yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed. The corn ribs was my favourite here though it was really saucy, the flavours were great and it was relatively easy to eat. The bone in chicken thigh was definitely bigger than I thought. It came with some chicken skins which was big and puffy. I have had better chicken skins though. However, the chicken thigh was perfectly cooked, probably the best texture I've had. The coating was super crunchy and thick while the meat inside was so tender and juicy. The skin on the thigh was a little fatty though. The sauce on the chicken I thought was too sweet and lacked more spiciness. I don't mind the sweetness from the honey if it also had a hotter kick to it at the same time. I think if they ever did a Nashville style that's really hot and spicy, I would definitely go back and try that. The chicken sandwich was also really good though I've had better slaw. If Pavillions is to Chick-fil-A, Le Coup is to Erewhon. Wait times vary, but expect 15-20 minutes. I believe you can also pre-order in advance, but possibly only online. At first glance, there menu is extremely limited. Everything is a la carte. Most striking is the omission of any sorta side of fries (more on that later). The chef operates under a one-size-fits-all rule for their chicken sandwich. Indeed, this is not your typical Nashville hot sandwich. The chicken casing is a special batter of a house-made honey base with their own special seasoning. It tastes almost like the honey wing chicken from BB.q korean chicken wings, but of course way, way better. However, there is some good news! You can kinda cheat around being pigeonhold, I mean chickenhold by dipping/slathering the chicken breast with their homemade sauces -- each, a dollar more. Noteworthy sauces are definitely the habanera sauce and their own version of the chick-fil-a special sauce. All of these sauces are finger licking good. The cashier flexed 'It's like chick-fil-A, but we do it right.' Which, I couldn't agree more. Now let's get to the sandwich. Mammoth sized, you're gonna have to grip the sandwich like a microphone at karaoke because it's gargantuan, freaky size. Probably the biggest fried chicken sandwich I've ever seen. Barely cannot be contained within a bun. The breading -- It's definitely not a hard crunch like the any fast-food fried chicken, or a lighter crunch like any chicken wings. The breast is a medium crunch, and while the meat is not necessarily super juicy, I'd describe it as smooth and tasteful. The slaw's cool acidity compliments the smooth and crunchy skin. I'd recommend ordering the habanero dip and slathering it on the bun. There are some drawbacks, and some things to be considered by the chef. Le Coupe kinda has the mindset of what is regarded as one of the better gourmet burger spot in Los Angeles -- Father's office. At father's office, there is not a single pack of ketchup on site. iNdeed, the owner flat-out refuses to offer such a classic condiment. At Le Coupe, they offer a variety of sides (some unique), but also refuse to offer any sorta fries as an option. And they're quite proud of it as they literally flaunt it on their shirts. And while I can appreciate this, as they want to focus on getting their customers to try other sides, I don't understand why they can't simply offer that option , but make it different. Also, I don't quite understand why they can't offer a chicken sandwich, but at buttermilk base form. It's not like this negatively impacts or conflicts with their poultry vision. Business risks alienating customers completely tuned-off to a sweeter chicken sandwich. Indeed, this is not something I can even eat every week. It's something I want as a 'treat' maybe once every six months to a year. WIth other popular chicken restaurants, I don't feel the same way. I can eat at some of them once a week. I definitely wouldn't want this once a week. I find it also endearing that the cashier responds to the chef robotically with a subservient 'yes, chef.' Reminds me of the contestants of MasterChef who fail Gordan Ramsey and take every single utterance of his scathing, gnarled british mouth. Indeed, the cashier clearly knows his place. It gets kind of annoying though. And further reinforces the aura of arrogance surrounding Le Coupe. I'm pretty disappointed that I have to give such a low rating because I was so excited to finally try Le Coupe but the food was just not a hit with us. We stopped by Friday around 1pm and the place was dead, sad to see that so I hope it was just off-hours. Cashier was friendly at least and customer service overall was great. We ordered the chicken sandwich, a side of potato salad, and asked for the honey mustard on the side as well as an extra side sauce of the coup sauce, totaling about $24. The cashier said it would take about 15 minutes and that was fine because we don't mind waiting for fresh food. It came out and the plate looked so damn good, looks can definitely be deceiving though. We first tried the potato salad and really enjoyed it. It wasn't overpowering or unbalanced with one flavor or another, it was creamy and chunky and had great fresh taste. The sauces were just average. The coupe sauce tastes like Chick Fil A sauce and the honey mustard was a bit sour. As for the sandwich, it's a bit confusing what was supposed to happen here. The bread is super small compared to the chicken thigh which has more batter than meat. And since the skin is left on, you get bites of chewy fatty skin. It was definitely juicy meat but not very flavorful. As for the batter, the crunch was fantastic, but the sauce is way too sweet and almost tastes like orange chicken in a weird way. Hot take but I think this is the best fried chicken sandwich I have had in LA so far. I tried the chicken from Le Coupe at last year's LA Tenderfest and it was the best thing I tried there so this has been on my radar for a while. This is the rundown of what we got: Fried chicken sandwich - Hot, crispy, juicy, sweet, with a little kick. The chicken thigh itself is well-marinated and has a depth of flavor and savoriness that you just don't find at other fried chicken sando spots in LA. The piece of chicken on this an absolute unit and is so massive that it barely fits on the bun. If you don't order this when you come here, I don't know what you are doing. They also have a pretty amazing hot sauce that balances out the sweetness with some acid/heat. Corn ribs - I heard a lot about these and they did not disappoint! I would describe these as a "southern-inspired" elote. The corn is so tender and practically falling off the cob. I was literally licking my fingers after these. Mac & cheese - This was so rich and creamy. I wish I had my own side of mac & cheese instead of sharing it was so good! Yuzu Lemonade - They make all of their drinks in house and you can definitely taste the difference. So simple and refreshing. The yuzu flavor was a nice touch and was the perfect thing to wash everything down. Brown butter chocolate chip cookie - I kid you not, this is my new favorite cookie in LA. I would say it's in my top three favorite fried chicken sandwiches in Los Angeles. To be upfront I am not a fan of dark meat chicken but I enjoyed it on this occasion . Howlin Rays is still my favorite but Le Coup and Mad Bulldog are also top three in my opinion. They have a few tables inside but most take the food to go. There isn't a dedicated parking lot so it will be metered street parking, which can be difficult to find depending on what time you visit. The staff inside was really polite and all of the food items came out pretty quickly. What makes Le Coup unique is that they use thigh meat for their sandwiches which is very crispy and has a strong honey flavor. It's closer to southern style fried chicken versus the popular Korean style that is prevalent around Los Angeles. I chose to start with the Corn Ribs because I had heard great things and can confirm they are great. It's just like eating baby back ribs, but of corn. For my meal, I tried the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Sweet Tea. The fried chicken sandwich was huge and packed with delicious flavor. I always prefer chicken breast, but this was a great variant. Parking is tricky to find so I would recommend looking for spaces in the Bank of America lot if you are a BofA Customer or try to see if there is metered parking. I ordered the following items: 1. Fried Chicken Sandwich - the Chili Honey had a nice kick with the Crispy Batter (well dredged) 2. Bone In Thigh - the Chicken Skin was crispy and the ranch was a nice condiment 3. Le Coupe has been on my must-try list for some time, so I finally "flew the coupe," dropping by for a late lunch and had one of the tastiest fried chicken sandwiches I've ever head, featuring an enormous, expertly fried, flavorful, juicy chicken thigh (coated in their signature chili honey) on a brioche bun, pickles, slaw, & honey mustard sauce = wow, sooo good - pro tip: order extra napkins, it can get messy, but worth it. Also had watermelon salad with pistachio vinaigrette, feta, Fresno chili, & balsamic reduction - as delicious as it was nicely composed + a refreshing yuzu lemonade - truth be told, I also wanted to try the corn "ribs" & corn bread, but was stuffed, so next time? The small space has some dine-in seating (didn't have to wait for a table), and street parking wasn't hard to find. I'm a big chicken sandwich fan but NOBODY is doing it like Le Coupe. Came for lunch, Gigantic dark meat, juicy as hell with the perfect crunch. The largest portion I've seen loaded with house made pickles and a slaw that is light and adds a brightness that is unmatched. It's a sweet heat honey chili glaze, I do wish they had a hot option because nobody is doing dark meat like this place. Epic on every level. Mac & cheese and corn "ribs" phenomenal.
