I overslept for brunch on saturday so I went to le dip with some people in my hall for lunch. The place was relatively empty (as is all of the UTC during the weekend) and got a chicken garlic. I was somewhat disappointed because I had amazing high hopes from reading the reviews, but it was still pretty good in retrospect. The bread was very crunchy on the outside and the inside was very soft and buttery. Very garlicy and delicious and moist with the mayo they put in it //garlic sauce. mmm. the only complaint i have is the chicken was dry on a few of the larger chunks, but other than that it was pretty good. next time i need to try the broc/mush/chick with extra garlic it'll def have more to it read more

We gave Le Diplomat a try over Peet's Coffee. I'm a fan of La Vie en France bakery products and I noticed their signage indicating that they serve their products. I decided on a Chicken Cordon Bleu Croissant and the hubs went with a Chicken Dijon sandwich. My croissant was alright. The croissant itself was lovely, and had a standard slice of ham, some chunk chicken, and a slice of Swiss cheese melted between them. The hub's chicken dijon was good, but the sauce was rather salty and too rich. The butter was dripping out of the sandwich with every bite. The only reason I am not giving this place a one star is because I have eaten here before and it was amazing. This time it came out horrible. SETTING: Spot is located in University Center across from UCI in Irvine, CA. Please is super small and can fit around 5-6 people seated. Not much inside happening, but clean all the time and well organized. SERVICE: You only deal with cashiers here so not much interactions happening. However, cashiers are students most of the time and they are all nice. I never had any issues with cashiers here. Great service. FOOD: I always get the chicken garlic with mushroom or the turkey supreme. Usually they are both amazing, but I have not been in a while and apparently the quality went down. The chicken was old. not cooked. hard to chew. just flat out disgusting. Really really simple place, really really simple food, but really really good! With a juicy 4.5 star average from over 1600 reviews to date, Le Dip seemed almost underwhelming at first glance - the shop was really small and didn't look too fancy or new, and the sandwiches everyone was raving about looked flat, sloppy, and...lacking. A thorough review doesn't go without mentioning some negatives, so here they are - First of all, I personally stay away from the Vietnamese sandwiches because they're relatively plain and certainly not up to par with the authentic ones you get from local viet restaurants.. Wow! So I read an article on OCR spotlighting this cafe - which for some reason, in the 5 years I was at UCI I never thought to stop by - and their sandwiches. The wait time was pretty long - considering no one was ahead of me. Probably upwards of 10 to 15 minutes. When my order came out, I peered into the paper bag and I'll be honest - was disappointed at what I thought were two tiny sized halves of the sandwich. What Le Dip makes up for in terms of the size of the sandwich, is the fillings - they packed the sandwich with chicken and didn't skimp either. Each bite into the buttery, lightly crispy and doughy baguette was filled with chicken meat, but the *real* star of the sandwich was definitely the garlic sauce. It was buttery, creamy, garlicy and def. made the sandwich memorable. As I finished my sandwich I can't help but think that I now have another reason to go out of my way and head back down to UCI (other than Saturdays @ the UCI Farmers Market). The prices are decent, I ended up getting a 5 inch, I feel like a 6 inch would be better. We came here based on yelp search and reviews. It was difficult to find the cafe. It's located inside the university center. You will see Peet's and Trader Joe's out front by the parking lots. Keep walking and go to the left and keep walking. You will find it right next to GNC. We were greet by two friendly staffs. They were so kind and patience. We ordered bacon chicken club sandwich, tuna sandwich, turkey cheese sandwich for our kid, tea, apple juice and lemonade twist with strawberry. Bacon chicken club was sooo delicious! Garlic sauce to die for, tasty chicken and a soft, thin, crispy piece of bread to bring it all together. Walk in or call in, I always get my order in a prompt 10 minutes or less. The employees here are very friendly. The service here is always great and the food comes out pretty quickly, even when it's on the busier side. I personally think their Chicken Garlic is amazing. It's just bread, chicken, garlic sauce and swiss cheese. Adding the sriracha to it makes it even better, and the tang helps cut through the fattiness of the garlic sauce. The garlic sauce itself is pretty creamy and a bit heavy, so you've been warned. The other sandwiches I've tried don't really compare, but it does lack veggies. Their sea salt coffee is okay, nothing phenomenal. It definitely costs more than their vietnamese coffee. So I'd say the vietnamese coffee is a better choice, considering both the flavor and the price.
