I really think this is an awful restaurant: I've wanted to like this place. I've been begrudgingly coming here for over a decade due to its proximity. The service is absolutely terrible. This time I ordered a burger with a salad substitution. Before asking for it l, I asked if they had balsamic vinaigrette for dressing.. They said fine. It arrived- a CABBAGE salad with "citrus dressing". After asking AGAIN, two different people agreed to bring me "balsamic vinaigrette"; my already dressed citrus cabbage salad was still on my plate and they just brought over a bottle of VINEGAR. I was looking forward to having lunch at Le Monde. I ordered Caesar salad and tuna tartare. The service was excellent. An outdoor table was easy to reserve and they even changed the table so that I could sit in the shade. The food was served. I can't begin to write how inferior it was especially the Caesar salad, basically Romaine lettuce strips covered by a bland non-Caesar dressing! Who puts halved cherry tomatoes around the lettuce? One tiny piece of fish ostensibly an anchovy but with no taste at all was on the side as requested. What a disappointment. It had no relation to a French Caesar salad which I've ordered in many restaurants. I would have sent it back but was with a young guest. I can't say that we planned to drop by Le Monde on a humid Friday night, but it was a pleasant enough meal. Wait-listed at Hex & Co, we stopped at the first restaurant we came across and got seated right away. The menu is pretty standard French fare (escargot, onion soup, moules) served in an airy space. My date went with a veggie burger, while I snagged a nicoise salad. The tuna was served past the requested rare but, all in all, was a tasty plate with a subtle mustard dressing. I've dined here twice recently, and both times exceeded my expectations. Not only was the food delicious, but they took extra care regarding my food allergies to make sure I could safely enjoy my meal. I was looking for something open on Christmas Day and came across the place. I can't say I've ever had French food so I was a little apprehensive being from the south. I had the goat cheese tart, rack of lamb and crème brûlée. I was very pleased and definitely recommend. I've been here a few times throughout college but this was my first time coming here for Restaurant Week! My friend and I decided on this spot because we thought their menu sounded unique and we were also impressed by how they included dessert in their $29 lunch offer, when so many places usually only included dessert in their restaurant week dinner menus. We were seated quickly and were also pleasantly surprised at the plastic boards in between dining tables as part of the restaurant's COVID19-safety policies. For the appetizer, my friend got the endive salad while I got the country pâté (definitely a bit out of my comfort zone lol). For some reason I had been expecting the meat to be more of a paste-like consistency, but it turned out to be a bit difficult to fully spread on my bread. However, it was incredibly seasoned and flavorful, and paired so well with everything else on my plate - the greens, the crusty slice of bread, and the pickles. (I'm not an olive person so I can't comment on those) It was also my first time trying whole grain dijon, and the dollop of it was very strong and more than enough to last me through the entire appetizer. On a side note, someone at the table next to us got the French onion soup and it truly looked and smelled divine. For the entree, my friend got the mushroom ravioli, which she absolutely loved. Our server was so sweet in offering us additional bread when she overheard my friend comment on how she'd wished she had bread to soak up all of her ravioli sauce! I ordered the sole meunière, a big, super flaky fish filet with a fried batter coating on the outside that came with wild rice, sautéed spinach, a really great lemon sauce, and admittedly, too many capers for my personal taste. The rice was super fluffy, but the fish was definitely the highlight. Finally, for dessert, my friend got the profiterole while I got the vanilla creme brûlée. We were amused to see an individual profiterole larger than the creme brûlée, which came in a pretty small teacup. The profiterole was stuffed with ice cream, whipped cream, and drizzled with chocolate sauce, while the creme brûlée had a very satisfying hardened caramelized sugar crust on top and wasn't overly sweet. Even though our dishes came out a bit slow, both desserts ended our lovely meal on a high note and we really enjoyed our restaurant week experience here read more

I just had a great lunch at Le Monde with friends. I suggested it as a place for a double birthday celebration as it is a favorite of mine. The three of us had garlicky shrimp appetizers, Vietnamese salad, and Niçoise salads. Everything was delicious and the portions very generous. The tuna in the Niçoise was so fresh and so perfectly cooked medium-rare, it was a beautiful thing. We shared three desserts (chocolate pistachio lava cake, lemon tart and peach Melba crêpe) and each was spot-on. But what put the experience over the charts was the staff. Sofia, our attentive waitress, must have spread the word that we were celebrating two birthdays and the desserts magically came out with candles and singing waiters, and we even received birthday cards from the staff!!! I've never had that happen outside of first-class air travel but certainly did not expect that in a moderately-priced restaurant! Whoever is running this place: kudos to your choice in personnel who seem to be caring from the heart, and to the chefs and kitchen staff. I can't recommend it highly enough! read more

A very pleasant dinner outside. The menu is small, but has some solid workhorses. I'd love to see them mix it up a bit. My companion had the prix fixe, which was solid and well-prepared. Before I ordered the steak here, I was telling my friends about the time I ate 11 six ounce steaks while embarked aboard a naval vessel crossing the Atlantic. I visited NYC for the first time this week, and I must say that one of my top highlights was dining at Le Monde in Morningside Heights! This was not just the best dining experience of my whole trip but a top dining experience of all time!
