I really wanted to love Liberty Common. The restaurant is located in my office building, so it would be a very convenient restaurant choice. A group of coworkers and I went for lunch. It's such a cute space--very open and airy. Lots of blue and white. Definitely not like any other restaurant in the downtown Nashville area. I ordered a nicoise salad and added a piece of trout to it. The salad was pretty basic. I had to ask for salad dressing because if there was any dressing, there wasn't much on the salad. Very bland. We all ordered a drink. I asked for a tall Iced Tea with Titos. The waiter did not ask me if I wanted a double shot of vodka but that is what he served me. My bill for a lunch salad and drink was $50 after tax and tip. I think that is ridiculous. It would be one thing if I said my lunch was AMAZING but it was not. Really wanted to like this place, has a great atmosphere right across from Ascend Amphitheater. Service however, on a Friday night with a 6 PM reservation was absolutely horrendous. Arrived at 5:57 and told it would be a bit before we could be seated and finally seated at 6:10. No big deal, but it was apparent that they were understaffed. 6:20 - 1st time, we see our waiter and placed orders for two sweet teas, and two drinks from the bar. 6:41, bar drinks finally arrived. Hoping to be at a concert by 7:45, we realized we should just put our entire order in given the pace of how the night started. We ordered a starter, fried pickles, along with four entrées, which included a quinoa salad, a spinach salad with chicken, a burger, and a chicken sandwich at 6:50. When food was finally delivered at 7:12, there was no starter, and the salad with chicken was missing the chicken. At this point, we were having to flag down the manager, as our waiter was nowhere to be seen. although he was running from end to end of the restaurant. At the end of the day, they took the salad and the starter off, but was still quite pricey for just an absolutely subpar experience. I swear this place was designed to host large bachelorette party groups! Extremely insta worthy from start to finish. Came here with a group of 12 for brunch. I was blown away by the beauty of the restaurant, when I entered. Beautiful marble bar, cute booths and wallpapers everywhere. The food and drinks were good too. But I guess you can be the nicest restaurant and people still won't come back if the service is not good. We had a reservation and still had to wait to be seated. We got seated in the back, away from the beautiful main room, which sucked. They should have mentioned that in our reservation. That room just looked like they squeezed as many tables as possible in there for extra money. Our sever Tyler was not good either. He was friendly, but We waited 30min for our coffee order. So i stopped for dinner. First time and i have to say i was quite disappointed. I kept it simple and went with the half rotisserie chicken and it was so dry. The spinach had no flavor and the Mac & cheese side i ordered was burnt or tasted burnt. The server didn't seem enthusiastic at all about his job so i think that just added to the disappointment. The epitome of Parisian elegance at its best!! We decided upon this Nashville newbie as our family's February birthday month brunch. It was so easy to hop on Yelp and message the business for reservations. They did a great job of follow up texting to confirm the date and time and could not have been more helpful. When we arrived ten minutes early, our large table was picture perfect ready. Our beautiful server, Kelly, arranged for drinks and appetizers upon seating and we had biscuits and rosé within minutes. Everyone ordered a variety of items which allowed us to taste the "bests" of the menu. The favorites of the table were French onion soup, cheese grits and chicken Caesar salad. This is an excellent place for brunch with friends but the menu is sophisticated. We had two children with us; however, they do have a menu just for them. My sentiments were that the environment is adult friendly for sure. Four stars were given only because of the portion sizes. The ladies of the group were pleased, yet the men were still hungry after brunch. No matter though... because everyone had a great time. In my opinion, Liberty Common is one of the best new restaurants in Nashville. It has a unique decor to Nashville, an amazing and caring staff, phenomenal food, and a fantastic location. My girlfriend and I have been here 3 times in 2 months. This place can become very busy so I would recommend making a reservation. If you do, you MUST ask if JP is serving and request to be sat with him (check The Service portion of the review for more details). Overall, Liberty Common surpassed all of our expectations and is now one of our new favorite go-to restaurants in Nashville. THE ATMOSPHERE: The decor, colors, layout, and ceilings (yes, the ceilings) combined offer a unique experience in Nashville. Combine a french cafe with an art deco twist and that is Liberty Common. The layout is completely open so you can see the entire restaurant from virtually anywhere you sit (unless you're in the party room in the back, but even that is mostly open). The vaulted ceilings stood out to me because you typically do not get to experience ceilings that high in downtown, so that was very nice to see. They also have a great patio area for the summer which has plenty of cafe tables and even multiple garage doors for you to walk up to the bar; you don't even have to go back inside! Even though they are typically busy, the restaurant is not very loud and they have soft french music playing in the background. THE FOOD: The menu at Liberty Common is French inspired while also acknowledging the Nashville food scene. You'll see oysters, pickled duck eggs, as well as a burger and fried chicken with biscuits on the menu, just to give you an idea. I've sampled multiple dishes and they were all FANTASTIC. My personal favorites are the Fried Chicken and the French Onion Soup, but the Liberty Burger and Pickled Duck Eggs are a close second. The chef actually used to own a food truck and has is own secret recipe he uses; he doesn't even share it with the staff. And let me tell you, it is absolutely delicious and the crunch of the batter is incredibly satisfying. THE SERVICE: The staff at Liberty Common is second-to-none. You are greeted with a smile when you walk in, and the wait staff is always on top of orders, refills, explaining the menu, etc. We've sat with JP 2 out of the 3 times we visited (so far) and we will be asking for him every single time from now on. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, how dishes are made, what is in them, as well as the history behind some of the dishes. The menu is deceiving... we ordered "country ham and pickles," what was served to us was prosciutto and pickled onions & carrots. They serve biscuits but don't offer gravy or jam? I'm all for "modernized southern" food but seriously? The biscuits had a good flavor but were over cooked. We ordered burgers well-done, with a runny egg on top. My friend's burger was raw in the middle, and my egg was not runny at all. They also gave me 2 eggs when I only asked for one. The burgers were also flavorless and that bun kept falling apart. GET A NEW BUN, that one SUCKS. There were other things we didn't like but I don't want to fully pick it apart. Every time I come to Nashville I try to find a new brunch place and this time, my +1 and I (along with the friends we were meeting) chose Liberty Common and we were not dissapointed. The location is easy to get to and well placed- especially for tourists who don't know their way around Nashville well. The decor is beyond cute and inviting and all staff are very friendly. Liberty Common is neat new restaurant in an area downtown that needed some new restaurants with all the new hotels being built in that area. Liberty Common seems to be a French-American fusion. I ate brunch and ordered the Waffle Madame. It's a breakfast play on the Croque Madame, but with egg and waffles. It was delicious! The interior is so pretty! I would love to see High Tea in a place like this. It would be perfect with all the Bachelorette parties that come to town. My friend ordered tea and it was so prettily presented. Another friend ordered a cinnamon roll and said it was very tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to trying out dinner here! Every single staff member did not seem like they wanted to be there and the food was medicore. We ordered the pickle chips as an appetizer and they were ok. For dinner I ordered a wedge salad with chicken and my friend ordered the chicken sandwich. The salad came out in a bowl that was way too small so it was difficult to cut and eat. The chicken sandwhich was also just okay. I will say their wine list is impressive though and we got a bottle of a Grenache Rose so that was definitely the highlight! When you picture modern 2019 relevant decor, it probably looks pretty close to the decor of Liberty Common. The finishes are shiny gold, white tile is the wall covering of choice and there are succulents everywhere. But don't overlook the bowties on the bartenders. The manager even looks like a well-to-do musician. The items on the menu are in French with Englis descriptions for the tourist's interpretations underneath. The pricing was standard for the newer Nashville trying-to-be-bougie scene, so no surprises there. As we went for lunch, I can only comment on the lunch options. The available items ranged from french toast to steak and fries. Most people would be able to find something to enjoy, which is appreciated in a tourist targeted venue. I order the fried chicken sandwich. I enjoyed the actual meat, but the bun wasn't a knockout, so I chose to save my carb intake for the accompanying shoestring fries. The fries were seasoned, which was great. The aioli on the side was a nice touch, but it was mostly mayonnaise. The service was impeccable. Our water glasses were never empty and the ordered items came to our table in a timely fashion. We shared our meal with her and then when asking for dessert menu, he was gone for at least 10 minutes before he came back.... we went to Mike's for ice cream. Our waitress was on cloud 9, didn't get the order for half the table and then came back and didn't remember any of the correct orders. The food was decent but the service was horrible. We were excited about it after reading about the brunch reviews and the vibe there was really my favorite color but again just had a bad taste in my mouth from how bad our waitress was. I like that the menu was clear and not over saturated. It made it easier to decide on what to eat. I ordered the Steak Frites. The shoestring fries were delicious -- crisp, and well seasoned. The steak which was meant to be medium rare, was a little over. It was also definitely sliced before resting properly as the juices had run all over my plate.
