I had the bun bo hue today and it was super delicious! The good; - Owners are Hue... Very authentic - Flavorful and aromatic broth. Not as oily or cloudy compared to other places. - Generous amount of high-quality meat. The cha is definitely a specialty (homemade). - Fresh veggies. - Noodles were cooked perfectly. - Affordable!!!! The not so good; - Table and silverware didn't feel too clean and there was no AC. Since it's primarily a to-go restaurant, I'd recommend just ordering your food to go :) Can't complain. - Broth wasn't as spicy... I'm Hue and I love my broth super super spicy! Nothing a scoop of pepper oil couldn't fix, though! - Menu is entirely in Vietnamese... could be troubling for those who don't speak Viet. Saw this place after getting my Banh Mi from Banh Mi & Che Cali, since they were in the same shopping center and literally a few steps away, I dropped by here to get me more Vietnamese food to bring back to the valley. Ended up getting their Nam Nuong Spring Roll and a Large Bun Bo Hue. The Nam Nuong was pretty good but the sauce that they gave was kinda gross. It was too watery and oily. I'm used to eating my springs rolls with the thick peanut sauce. Oh well. I still have the Bun Bo. Well, sad to say but the Bun Bo wasn't all that great either. Mine wasn't bland but instead it was very sweet and not spicy at all, even after I dumped the little container of red chili oil into the soup. This is definitely not Bun Bo Hue. It may look like it and it may bear the name, but taste wise, Bun Bo Hue this is not. Nam Nuong was $3 for a plate of 3 spring rolls. Owner/Lady said this price was only for me and for today only, normal price was $4, but I don't know, on the menu board, it did say Nam Nuong Cuon - $3. For what it's worth, I did feel a little special. I wanted to believe that the peripheral treatment was because of my charming personality but I'm pretty sure she was trying to sucker me into buying a second plate. Sorry lady not this time. I usually came here to buy to-go bun bo hue. The price here is reasonable and the bun bo is okay quality. It has been a nice experience until last night when I bought one special bun bo Togo for $7.50. After two hours driving around at night , I think it was ok since it's not hot outside. I was excited to eat it just when I found out the soup turned bad and was very sour. The vegetable was still very fresh plus the other food I bought together with the bun bo still tasted very good. This is kind of a food-to-go-slash-restaurant kind of place. It's not very nice, if that's what you're looking for. Just the basics: some (moderately clean) tables and chairs in a moderately clean environment (read: white walls and no decor). I sat down one time on a hot day and there was no A/C. :( Door was open and flies were coming in. Anyway, I usually come to get some food-to-go. I used to love everything I tried here, but somehow, it doesn't seem quite as good anymore. My favorite is still the rice sheets rolled with shrimp (it's kind of hard to describe and I can't remember what it's called. I just point). I also like the rice sheet "spring rolls" with the grilled pork. YUMMMY! The banh bot loc is pretty good, too, but I'm not a huge fan of the banh nam (my favorite food that comes wrapped in a banana leaf EVER). But I don't know where else to get it so. . . meh. They also take large orders for parties here. They will make pretty much anything in large quantities for you. I like to order 50-100 banh beo at a time to take home (not for party). :) I can probably eat 50 of those things by myself. I believe it's something like $13 for 50, and they give you everything you need to make it just like Quan Hy -- fresh (not dried) shrimp, fried pork fat, fish sauce -- for 1/10 the price. Granted, it doesn't come in a tiny little dish, but it tastes the same to me. It's also fun to order a giant pot of bun bo hue for a party and pass it off as your own. :) I believe you do have to bring your own pot to take it home in, though. read more

The food is okay. I only go here for bun Bo hue but the woman who is in charge of the store (the owner?), she handles the register and she is always super rude. She never says thank you, and when she gave me my change back she left $4 on her register and pointed it to me so I could pick them up. She didn't bother to hand me back my change. A few months ago she charged me for a water bottle which was my own that I brought to the store. I happened to not have enough cash and I asked if she would take debit card and she said no. well because she was charging me for a water bottle that was mine to begin with, I ended up being short $0.50. (I didn't know that I was being charged for my water bottle.. She thought I ordered it at the restaurant.) so i said let me go to the bank nearby and bring the $0.50 I owe her. Which I did. I left to get some cash to pay her $0.50. Her husband (?) was next to her and asked her to please let it go it's only $0.50 but she refused and I have no problem with paying that just don't give attitude about it. Everyone else who serves food at that place is really nice though. But after today I won't be going back no matter how much I like the bun Bo hue. Their Bun Bo Hue is the best in the area. I don't really like any other Bun bo hue place. Workers here don't speak English so maybe it'd be nice if you can just speak simple English to them? I've been coming here ever since I was a small child. Since I've recently moved here, I decided to go back because I saw such good reviews about this place. I'm half viet so Vietnamese isn't my first language, but it is enough to order me a bun bo hue Togo... All of the employees here can't speak a lick of English. I tried ordering a bun bo hue extra noodles for my boyfriend and they just gave me a large bun bo hue. I mentioned extra noodles at least 4x at the register but he just kept nodding and rushing me to pay. I tried to ask if they take credit card but he just laughed at me. While I waited for my food, I sat at a communal table where others were waiting for their food and saw a cockroach wandering the floors of their restaurant. It made me want to get up and ask for my money back and leave but I feel like they wouldn't understand anything I'd explain. 15 minutes pass by and still no sign of my food, but all the other people got their food. I feel as if they took my money and "forgot" my order. I've been sitting there for 15 minutes right in the front, I go back to the register to ask how much longer my food is taking and and he tried to take my order..(wtf?) I finally got my food and they didn't give me extra noodles. Again, I ask for extra noodles and they act like I'm crazy. They start screaming into the kitchen asking for my extra noodles and come out with a box of noodles and said it was $1.50... I ordered it at the register 4 times, tried to clarify what I wanted and ended up walking out because it was just too ridiculous how bad the customer service is here. If you mess up this many times and I've been waiting 20-25 minutes, is $1.50 of a mistake that their own worker did really worth it? The food here... Is an experience. It was good but different. Very different. But with that horrible customer service how are you going to convince anyone to come back. And heads up, if you are supposed to be known for your magnificent noodles here, learn the word noodles in English. It would help you quite a lot. I saw a lady come in and ask a question about sugar cane juice and they stared at her with a confused face and then just walked away. Usually I feel bad leaving such a horrible review on an establishment I've been going to since I was young but they probably can't even read this. This place has started to become my place of choice for to go food. Several years ago I ate here once with a friend and had their banh it ram and it was delicious but never had any of their other food, till recently my brother brought their banh canh and bun bo hue home. Talk about the size of it. You get a huge portion for only $6 (large size), when you go to other places and ask for the large you normally get a medium size. Their bun bo hue was okay broth wasnt as spicy as i like it to be, I had better but they do give you lots of meat. As for their banh canh, its the bomb, the best I had for a long time. The broth was favorful and the noodles were fresh. I would definitely come here again, thats probably why we been ordering food from them 3 times lasst week. read more

EWwwwwwwwwwwwww.... I just bought two bowls of "chao long" (rice porridge) for to-go from this place. That was the worst chao long i've ever had. I couldnt believe they put "cha lua" (pork roll) in chao long. Their "chao long" was made from cooked rice put in a separated broth( or soup). When i first opened the to-go bowls, I thought it was "bun bo" since it had the yellow food color on top of the broth and a lot of "cha lua". Even my dad and my mom said they couldn't believe the food-to-go restaurant was still in business with that type of "chao long". If i had choice of 0 star rating, I would choose it. This restaurant doesnt deserve one star. Please dont come to this place for "chao long", or you'll have to regret!!!! read more

Planning for a party with family, I ordered 75 Chao Tom ($1.50/each) three days before the pickup date in person and deposited in cash half of the total amount. Three days later, when I showed up to pickup the order at 08:15AM, they told me they only had 27 Chao Tom, and they didn't make any more on that day..! Lien Hue's Bun Bo Hue is satisfyingly huge, flavorful, and cheap! Probably, it's one of the best places for Bun Bo Hue that you will be able to get for your money's worth ($5 for a HUGE bowl). The only negative is they have more than once given my family the wrong order, otherwise, a nice restaurant for cheap and fulfilling Bun Bo Hue or Mi Quang if you prefer. Other Hue specialty items are delicious (Banh Bot Loc, Nem Cuon, Pho Cuon, Gio, ect.) although a bit pricey. read more

We were excited to find this little eating place and food to go but turned out the diner was horrible !!!! First the chopsticks were sticky, not very clean. Then Bun Bo Hue, their specialty , was terrible. Once big piece of beef shrank, thick and tough as leather. The shrimp ball was pinky and doesn't taste like shrimp. Salty, greasy. They served with beansprout, this dish should never be severed with bean sprout. My Quang & banh canh tom cua Hue also were so bad. By the way they spoke Vietnamese, I knew they came from Hue. The dishes I named above are specialty from Hue. They got no pride in what they are doing. 7.50 for a bowl of soup, all you got some greasy broth, salty and lots of sugar in the soup. They need to learn how to cook. Don't let the pictures fool you, people from Hue doesn't eat this way. Food from Hue supposing to be delicate and tasty. Bun Bo should have fragrance of lemon grass, beef shrank should be thinly sliced , should be boiled first then cooked on skillet with spicy before go into the broth. Sugar should not be used in broth....Bottom line, they careless about their customers . They need to learn how to clean the table better. If they can washed the chopsticks and spoon better then use disposable !! Would never return to this place. read more
