This was my first time trying one, and I got the standahd roll with warm butter, which costs around $30. The bread was warm and tasted sweet and buttery. Would you like your buns buttered? Well here you butter it yourself, so you can control how much is used. It's served melted on the side to pour over, though you can choose to opt for mayo instead. The lobster was hot and nestled between a nicely toasted bun. I enjoyed the roll, though I do agree with other reviews that the bun is a bit too sweet. Kind of like the Hawaiian roll type of bread. Very disappointed in this one. We researched the place and saw some awesome videos on YouTube with the owners, so we were extremely excited to check this place out! When the food finally came out, the roll was burnt in several places and very dry, the lobster on it was overcooked and even the butter sauce couldn't save it. The clam chowder base had little flavor, though arguably a decent amount of clam and potatoes. The lobster bisque is a hard pass. Lot of butter and it seemed like they used something in the base, like sherry or vodka, that gave it some off flavors. I'd judge it on how it tasted, if it had come out at all... We waited 45 minutes before deciding that the lobster chowder and roll were a no-go - we had received everything else and these two items never came out and I ended up telling the waitress we will cancel the order. I recently ordered a lobster roll to go from this restaurant, but I was disappointed with what I received. Despite paying $25, all I received was a roll and a very small Tupperware with lobster topping (about the size of a side dish). They couldn't even put the lobster on the bread!! This felt like a rip-off to me, as I expected to receive a more substantial portion of lobster for the price I paid. I also expected them to at least create the lobster roll! Not give me the bread and lobster to make myself. I would have gone to the grocery store tinstead. I had previously visited this restaurant several times over the summer and had enjoyed my experiences there. Today I had one of the best and most delicious lobster rolls in my 54 year existence and I owe my gratitude to Lobstah On a Roll. The quality of seafood used is excellent like most all the seafood/shellfish you'll find in Boston but the what these guys do with and add to it is phenomenal! Let's talk about the bread for a minute. Nothing but the best local Jewish challah is used for their rolls and the sweetness of that bread combined with the sweetness of the fresh lobster meat makes for a lot of happiness in your mouth. We tried one roll cold and one warm and they were both spectacular and packed with meat. I've spent as much elsewhere for half the amount of lobster meat and the taste can't touch what these guys are putting out. The other plate we ordered was fried lobster, scallops and shrimp and this too was amazing! The batter that they use it so light, but yet very crispy and dry. None of that greasy feel going on here. Whole claw meat pieces, large buckles,, jumbo shrimps and big juicy sea scallops are all you will find at Lobstah On a Roll. Go big or go home. I plan to be back throughout the rest of the Summer and beyond. If you think you've had Boston's finest lobster roll and you haven't tried this one you owe it to yourself, your family and friends (from out of town) to bring them down to either of their locations. Stumbled upon this place during my Boston visit as I was craving a lobster roll and some of the other places I had wanted to try out were closed due to Easter. I didn't have the best vibe when I entered the restaurant as there is a certain smell but I decided to give the food a try anyways. I had a free cup of clam chowder with yelp check in. It was very thick and pretty potato heavy although the flavor was ok. I also ordered the New Englander which was 6oz of lobster meat on a roll. There was a cold option of mayo or a warm option with warm butter. I had opted for the recommended warm butter option as it was windy out. The lobster was tasteless, even with the butter, as if frozen lobster was used instead of live ones. The roll was also too big, so the lobster meat to bread ratio was very off, as there was too much bread and not enough lobster. I also ordered the lobster mac to go and that was lacking flavor as well. The food all came very fast and the service was good. However, I don't think I would be coming back due to the quality and flavor of the food, especially for the price paid since I don't believe it's worth it. read more

Really had to sit on this rating. Interesting vibe inside, very much on the casual side. Great service but things don't move very quickly. I've been trying lobster rolls almost everywhere I travel to and this one was good but not the best I've ever had. There was a lot of bread, so I felt like the ratio was a little off compared to the lobster. I did get the 4 oz. versus something larger but I don't think that should have change anything since it's one of their most popular, "The Bostonian." The bread was dense and mildly sweet which was interesting. Really liked it because the lobster is quality but would have liked a lighted roll. I also tried the Clam Chowdah which was really good and it warmed me up after being out shopping in the wet and cold weather. This was my first time trying out this restaurant. Perhaps it was off season or maybe transitioning / adjusting to recipes. This is a one time try and I was a bit disappointed with the taste of it. The lobster roll bread was too thick and heavy. I found a small shell in my lobster roll (but I guess that is an indicator of how fresh it is!). Compared to other lobster rolls I tried, others are lighter and less thick of a bread. I think the hot butter could have blended or be cooked with the bread to make it more flavorful. As for the clam chowder, it is definitely a chunky one. I think there was a zucchini or something that's included into the chowder. I'm not sure. It just felt like there was too much going on in there and sometimes, less can do more for the flavors. I know this is a small own business and I do want to be supportive of it. Looking for a quick place to order food for to-go, we found Lobstah on a Roll. We ordered the Standahd lobstah roll and some onion rings on the side. They also throw in a cup of clam chowdah when you order the Standahd, which was a selling point when looking for a place to eat (specifically lobster rolls). First, the lobstah roll: while the amount of lobster on the roll was great (6oz), the roll itself wasn't amazing. It tasted as the the roll was over toasted and under buttered, which took away from the experience of a lobstah roll. Again, the amount of actual lobster was great! But roll it was on...not so much. The onion rings: a lot of places just give you several pieces of onion rings and call it a side. Not this place, however. Lobstah on a Roll actually fills the box full of them, and of all sizes. It was a great side dish that we were able to save as a snack for later. The clam chowdah: we only had a cup that came with the roll, but wow I wish we had gotten an actual bowl of it. The chowdah was super creamy and with plenty of potatoes, clams, and the like.
