Service was reduced to an order taker, we had to ask to have all empty appetizer plates removed in order to make room for our entree course & we were seated in their alternate space next door which was fine but just very much crammed into a tiny space, not very intimate at all. Made advanced reservations for our 24th wedding anniversary and noted it on our reservation. Apparently they do not recognize celebrations as our visit lacked any acknowledgment of the fact that we were there for anything other than dinner. Amazing service, excellent food, and I'm not A big wine person but if you are this place is for you. It's the perfect date/anniversary night. Dim lighting and beautiful architecture. The wait staff is on point refilling drinks, refilling bread and making sure you're taken care of. The stuffed zucchini is amazing and so Is the chicken. The manager is probably one of the best I've seen in a long time for customer satisfaction. My bf and I come here once a year for our anniversary and we are never disappointed. I love this place! Parking is a bit tricky as there is mostly street parking nearby and this restaurant has a huge capacity. We had dinner reservations here on a weekend and their indoor dining room was reserved for a private event so we ended up sitting outside. Ambiance is nice, they have heaters and the crowd is moderately noisy as large groups like to dine here. Fritto Misto- because my husband loves calamari. It comes with both shrimp and squid and paired with this unique olive dipping sauce. Tastes fresh and I like that it comes with a good amount of shrimp too. Lobster ravioli - the best part about this dish is the sauce. It would make any pasta stand out. The filling is a mixture of lobster and asparagus but I wish it had more of the bouncy texture you get from lobster because it was on the mushy side. It's topped with prawns but it should have pieces of lobster instead. Gnocchi tartufata - I was hesitant to order this because I prefer other types of pasta over gnocchi however I was pleasantly surprised by the freshly made dumplings tossed in a cheesy truffle sauce. It was a perfect compliment to our pizza and was great to dip my crust in because I love truffles! Pizza Margherita - we had this delivered to us the other night, I would order it again for dine in because the crust was so good flavorful and chewy but thin at the same time. The sauce was perfectly savory without being too sweet or sour. I wish it had more basil. We had their tiramisu and panna cotta for dessert but nothing to write home about. The food is at most mediocre. The most expensive meals are not on the printed menu, they are in the "specials of the day" communicated to you by a waiter, but w/o mentioning the price. It feels like a nice "trick" to encourage people to order, and most will not feel comfortable asking what the price is. When you get the bill, you will see "Employees wellness and health surcharge" of 3%, which is not only annoying but also illegal in California according to SB 478. read more

A much awaited team outing resulted in us gathering for a team dinner at Locanda Ravello. The team had arrived earlier at the spot and I was a bit late since it was quite a drive for me from San Jose all the way to Danville ( though one that I could do over and over given the food you are going to experience there is phenomenal) . Happened to reach just in time while the dinner orders were being placed and we ordered an eggplant parmigiana, pollo parmiggiana, 7 orders of Branzino ( tasted fresh and awesome) , rigatoni siciliana and I placed a to go order for ravioli lobster and a canoli. The team had already been enjoying the shshito peppers with some drinking options, prior to me getting there and was the peppers were one to have for sure. The dinner turned out to be perfect and tasted amazing. Rosario, our server for the evening guided us with our choices and did do a great job hosting us and addressing our needs. A definite recommendation and a must visit even if you have to drive 50 miles on a weekday ( along with the traffic) . Going back over there soon for more!! read more

6 of us had a reservation last night for dinner at Locanda Ravello on Christmas Eve. 3 of us ordered the special, which was halibut on a bed of mashed potatoes. When it arrived, the potatoes were at room temperature, at best. We called our waiter, Victor, over & asked if he could take the meals back to the kitchen, remove the fish & warm the potatoes. He seemed very irritated by this, took the 3 meals back to the kitchen & simply microwaved all 3 with the fish on, which overcooked the very expensive fish & made it very dry. He never came back to check on us. When we asked for 2 separate checks, he seemed very irritated. He definitely had an attitude. It was my suggestion to go to Locanda Ravello. Very disappointing, especially on Christmas Eve. We won't be back. read more

I get why this place is so popular. It's super cute, so much ambience in the courtyard, and everyone has Italian accents, so you just feel like the food is going to be good. The problem is, the food is kinda just average. I had alone of the specials last time. It was some braised meat dish on pasta. "Cooked all day" or something like that. It just wasn't good. I've had pizza there, just ok. I can't even remember what else because it's never memorable. What's memorable is the setting. I love it! And it feels family owned (maybe it is??) I just think they need to work on their food. I think I may be in the minority in this one because it's always packed. Went here for an anniversary dinner based on recommendations from friends. Ordered the ribeye steak as it was one of the specials of the day. It was probably one of the worst if not the worst steaks I have had. Almost half of it was just pure fat and super salty. I guess I deserve it for ordering a steak at an Italian restaurant. Because of reviews I've read, I've been to this restaurant 3 times. Each time was a total loser. But the last visit clinched it. I ordered spaghetti with tomato sauce and shrimp. For $35 I got tasteless spaghetti sauce and 5 small shrimp. I complained to the waiter that the pasta was bland. He left and came back with a small bowl of chili flakes. If I could give this restaurant more than five stars I would! Everyone is incredibly nice, and the food is amazing every time we come! My husband and I have tried many different items from the menu and have never had anything we didn't like. Our go to drinks are the Negroni and basiltini as well as the espresso martini. The pizzas here are fantastic, wish I could have their dough recipe to make at home!! They are very kid friendly and provide crayons and a coloring page. The kids absolutely love the "mickey" pizza. Marco was a great server and had great suggestions. He also really helped to create that Italian feel for us since he is from Italy. Here are a few things we got: - Fritto Misto: solid, great crunch and batter not too thick, but wish there were more than two prawns. - San Daniele pizza: good flavor, overall fairly good pizza but wish the crust in general was thinner - Linguine Carbonara: lots of pancetta which was great but made the dish pretty salty - Linguine Alla Scoglio: pretty tasty with a good amount of seafood - Chocolate cake: delicious especially with their home made gelato! Nope. Never again. The food here is mediocre at best. The service is not good -- bordering on the worst in Danville. There is an undeniable arrogance with the waitstaff. All of them. The restaurant is this haphazard menagerie of rooms and spaces that don't make any sense. Indoor/outdoor, up/down mismatched mess. There's absolutely no "flow" to the restaurant. The worst part though is the service. Our waiter stopped at our table, long after our salad plates had been removed and asked if we'd had our salads. It was then he realized he'd forgotten to place our dinner order with the kitchen. No apology or anything. He just ignored us the rest of the evening. On top of that, it annoys me to no end that they think the minimum tip amount should be 18%. But that's what their machine is set at. 18%, 22% and 25%. He didn't deserve 10%. But yes, let me pay you an additional 18% to ignore us after you forgot to fire our dinners with the kitchen. On top of that, 3% more for "employee benefits." I'd like to say this is a one-off experience at this place, but it's not. All the waitstaff have this arrogance about them. They're loud, boisterous with mediocre food. And, another point of annoyance -- people that bring their damn dogs into restaurants. I don't care that we're on the patio, leave your mutt home or go to Lazy Dog. The dog tonight wasn't content to sit under the table. He was walking around, pulling at his leash and being a complete idiot. And then we have waitstaff petting his head and scratching behind his ears. Just because you love him, doesn't mean we all do. The fact that people think it's totally fine to drag their fur balls wherever they go shows how little disregard they have for other people in today's society. My mom and I came here Thursday evening after a long day of work. We were pleasantly surprised that other people had the same idea! There were lots of people having a great time and dining outside. Food- traditional- OK Service- HORRIBLE. Owner- Fillippo- manager/owner - if you can't respect your clients- don't run a restaurant. Go do something else! We had visited to celebrate our daughters graduation from middle school. We ordered pasta and Lasagna for the kids and Branzino for us. Pasta/Lasagna came out ok. Portions were small and not like some of the pictures posted. It was a busy evening so I'm guessing they made portions smaller to accommodate. We were then told (after 20 mins) that the Branzino was sold out. By that time the kids had finished their pasta and we ordered a pizza instead (of the Branzino). That pizza took over 40 mins (almost everyone had left by that time) before we cancelled and left. Food was slow and I had to ask the server multiple times on where my order was. My 7 year old son mentioned to our server that he had school the following day...still nothing. When I asked to cancel the pizza- owner came running out saying 'sorry- we are busy today'. Great- let me know that BEFORE I order.... Not 40 mins after taking my order! We left, came home, kids slept, heated some left over food from the fridge. Italians are all about food and family. this place does not understand that. Fillipo- you have a lot of learning to do. It's not just about making money. Mind you the pizza we shared was pretty good and the beet salad was good but the server was impatient, pompous and anything but friendly. To my disappoint, I'm having to write this type of review (a first for me and hopefully last one) a week after visiting Locanta. Guess it bugged me enough to make the effort. I'll open by saying that we definitely experienced prejudice from our server. While we were quite cordial and outwardly very happy to try this restaurant (came from 1.5 hours away), we were obviously treated quite differently by our server compared to the nearby tables. He visited our table infrequently, and when he did, he was short and unwelcome. Our food was late, our wine never came, and when we needed something, our server was no where to be found. When we did manage to wave him down, it took a very long time for him to come back. At one point early on, he even angrily yelled over us "I'm talking right now!" to either another restaurant patron or co-worker. Regardless, we assumed it was the attitude of the restaurant, which we would normally enjoy and find entertaining, however we later understood that we were simply being undermined. Interestingly enough, as we were winding down, we unintentionally overheard another table that came later (who also happened to look like they come from an "ethnic" background) had problems with their service and had to hail the manager. We never complained and carried on as we normally would. On to the food. We like to take recommendations from the restaurant. We tried the branzino and penne. The pasta dish was very good. The branzino left much to be desired. It came served as two fillets over a bed of vegetables. It was lacking in flavor and didn't complement the fish in any special way. We also started with a tuna tartare and octopus salad. Both were also light in flavor and refreshing. We assume this is the cooking style of the restaurant. Overall, to our own tastes, the main courses and starters were nothing special. I'd give 2.5/5 if asked to rate the food alone. In closing, Locanta was a huge let down, so much that I took the time to review what would otherwise be an ordinary mid-week dinner. In our opinion, Locanta is not the place to go for a welcoming atmosphere. For what it's worth, we are relatively well traveled and have eaten at many fantastic restaurants near and far. We are not food snobs by any means. What we enjoy the most is being able to support local businesses and enjoying their hospitality and way of cooking. Locanta unfortunately fell short in all these aspects for us. read more

My dining companions had the artichoke beignets (the lone highlight) and the vodka pasta which was painfully unsalted. I ordered the chicken parm which was a meager burned portion unseasoned and hard to get down. Came with tough chewy eggplant and greasy potato wedges. Very unimpressed. The restaurant itself is very chaotic in the way tables are haphazardly put up everywhere. I barely could get between them to leave after dinner. Our waiter was awful. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier or lack of training or lack of experience. But he clearly did not know what was going on. At one point he walked away mid sentence. Very odd. I asked for the vegan options or if anything could be made vegan. (Their online menu had a label option where as the menu at the physical restaurant did not). He did not know what vegan meant. He also did not understand was no animal product was. Eventually he said he believed the cauliflower was. I then asked what was in the citrus vinaigrette and he didn't know but said I could eat it... So I ordered the salad with no cheese and the cauliflower pasta. When the salad came you could see they scraped off the cheese since there was still residue and pieces of it. Which was not okay. Dairy makes me sick. The cauliflower pasta smelled awful and looked extremely unappetizing. It was just slapped onto the plate in a mushy pile. It tasted horrible. My husband and dad tried it and also were horrified at how bad it was. I picked out the mushrooms and asparagus and just ate those. I don't understand why they don't just use regular pasta for their vegan option. There are plenty of pastas with out egg. I the waiter did not seem to care that I sat there the whole dinner with an entire plate of food just sitting in front of me and at the end when clearing we let him know it was not good and he seemed confused again at what we were saying. I have two stars because my husband said his meal was okay. But for the price not worth it. Horrible service and lack luster menu. Will not be back. read more

I can't believe I have never been here! It's a GEM!!! Darling restaurant with inside and outside heated seating! Cute little cozy bar area where you can wait for your table. This place is as authentic Italian as you are going to get! The owners are Italian and have hired the kindest Italian staff as well! The food is amazing! I had the beet salad which was served on a bed of arugula, pickled red onions, beets and a creamy cheese topped with a tangy vinaigrette dressing! I also ordered the Brussels which were perfectly fried with bite size pancetta! Yumzzzzz For dinner I had the osso buco which was amazingly tender served with risotto and green beans. Amazing as well! The drinks and garnishes are wonderful! Tons of great creations such as a basiltini... basil lemon and I asked for vodka instead of gin! After dinner we had a must try Nutella shot! Upon arrival, was greeted right away and seated outside as wife requested. Covered and heated from the rain, it was perfect. We ordered the beet salads and anti pasta for 2. Outstanding, fresh and tasty. For the main course I had the Monday night lobster Linguine and my wife the Eggplant Parmesan. Both super delicious esp the poached lobster. Soft, buttery and cooked to perfection. For desserts we got the Tiramisu and the mini doughnuts. Both were yummy. Staff was quick, friendly and attentive. The service...the FOOD...the ambiance...WOW! Recently dined here with family and friends after wanting to visit for years. This place is gorgeous from the outside and gives off the most romantic summery patio vibe that I just adore. Bike ride downtown accompanied by outdoor dining & Aperol? Yes, please. This place is seriously dreamy. We dined on the back patio and it was like an instant vacation without ever leaving downtown. The staff was attentive, playful, and incredibly helpful in recommending delicious dishes and cocktails alike. I got the ragu after our server recommended it and it was divine. Large proration size with plenty of meat, perfectly cooked pasta, and fresh basil. I also tried the truffle gnocchi that was heavenly and melted in your mouth. We accompanied our meals with an Aperol Spritz which was perfect with the warm weather patio dinner. Adding this spot to my "must-visit" list of Danville restaurants for my next visit. read more
