Took my mom and spouse here for an early Mother's Day dinner on a Friday. We love the very family-like vibe of Locanda Ravello, with the tables embedded amongst what looks to be repurposed almost-home like plaza. It feels friendly and has authentic Italian charm. We've been to the Amalfi location and like that there's some variety of options like this that are available in the East Bay. Our server was prompt and kind, and gave us the specials. He also rescued other tables from the sunny day, moving large and heavy umbrellas, so shout out to him. Clearly keeping busy, but with a jovial smile and hearty laughter. We ordered a ton there, including our usuals (octopus salad and fritto misto - calamari, prawns, artichoke hearts). These appetizers got wolfed down completely. No leftovers. Some of the other memorables included their special of the day/week: a 12 oz rib eye that was perfectly cooked (medium rare), and included a salad and fries. We also got the pizza tartufata, but asked to replace the truffle sauce with a more traditional marinara (mozzarella, chiodini mushrooms, prosciutto) as one of the fam isn't into truffle flavor.. which I guess makes it more pizza marinara, since tartufata is truffle (facts). The eggplant parmigiana was also melty-delicious and one of our faves. I was on the dry tip for a health reboot, so got a non-alcoholic beer (probably for the first time). It ended up actually 0.5% alcohol, but that just made it taste like the lightest beer ever; it was nice for a refresher in the heat. All in all, I was pleased with getting to treat two lovely ladies to a Mother's Day, along with other fam, and felt well-nourished and catered to. Another plus is there is plenty of parking in downtown Danville, off of Front Street, with not just one, but two parking lots. One possible gripe is that tables were fairly close together. Reminded me of a Valentine's Day outing I had where people were near touching elbows. It made it feel a bit more home-y though and the chatter was lively. Danville people watching is always a good sport, as it did feel like there were many girls-night-out gatherings amiss. Definitely a good spot for upper scale Italian fixings. read more

Locanda is great, but every time we go, it's either really good or fine--there's no in-between. Kind of a bummer because when it's great, it's really great, but I hate feeling like I'm gambling, so we don't go too often. Just came here for a friends birthday celebration and was very pleased with the food and drinks. I got the pesto gnocchi and absolutely loved it -- the texture of the gnocchi was perfect and the pesto sauce was nice and creamy. We also tried the carbonara and pizza and they both were delicious, with a nice crispy crust on the pizza with fresh ingredients. The espresso martini is also a great choice for a drink, and it comes with a delicious nutella rim! I will say the service was not great, especially since there was a big group of us and our server hardly came to check on us and it seemed like he disappeared every time we needed something. But we did bring our own cake to celebrate my friends birthday, and it was nice that he gave us a candle topping! I have been wanting to try this older Italian favorite but the experience was lacking. The lasagna was sweet, thin, and really lacking in the ingredients area. I think there were two nuggets of Italian sausage and no Ricotta cheese. I was quite disappointed considering the good reputation. I also wanted to mention the chicken Parmesan. The cutlets were too thin and way overcooked. The result was that crispy-chewy cutlet with little to no cheese or marinara on it. The potatoes and the eggplant were fine. I will mention that the facility was clean and bright. It was very relaxing and quite the pleasant environment to have dinner. The wait staff was absolutely top notch and knowledgeable as well I have nothing but praise for these aspects of the experience. In short, the food is the reason not to go here. I will probably try it again but I doubt my wife will accompany me for the repeat. read more

Some of the best gnocchi to be had in the east bay, delicious pizzas and a very solid selection of wines make this a perfect spot for a date night. The desserts are delicious and the affogatto and Connnoli are my favorites. The large outdoor seating area is great for parties, but the real intimate vibe is inside. We came here last weekend for a bday dinner. Place is spacious with outdoor as well as indoor space. Service is pretty prompt and helpful. They didn't forget us despite being busy. Place is quite loud and lighting is annoying as it comes straight to your head and even pictures were hard to take due to that... Food was hit or miss and not very authentic. I like the atmosphere here. Fun chaos. Always bustling with people celebrating, girls night out, and the bar area seems to always have a group of Italian men drinking and yelling, which my husband and I quite enjoy. The service is never outstanding because they're always slammed, but they are always hustling and putting in 110% effort which I can appreciate. The food lacked consistency through covid, but since normalcy reached an equilibrium again, it seems to be consistently always good now. We seem to rotate through the pastas (which are all excellent). We love having a date night spot that is open late for dinner (even on week nights), as our schedules are abnormal. read more

When my well-travel friend Pat said that this restaurant reminded her of Italy, it sounded like the perfect spot to meet for a midweek dinner. We were happy to find out that our 5:30 reservation was early enough that we could order off the happy hour menu. It was a perfect warm Danville night to dine alfresco. I loved the ambiance and the friendly service. I especially appreciated that they did not rush us. When we sat down, the outdoor area was empty when we left it was full of happy diners We started with drinks Pat had Prosecco and I had a Paper Plane: a mix of Basil Hayden Bourbon, Nonino Amaro, Aperol & Fresh Lemon, top with an orchid. The drink did not seem strong, it was sweet and tasty; I suspect it was stronger than it tasted. We order a lot of food: we started with a shared appetizer of shishito peppers that come with Capri sauce. Then we each had a green salad and a Margherita pizza. We both thought that the peppers were perfect, there were so many on the plate that we both took some home. The salad was lightly dressed with a lemony dressing. Ito me it was a bit bland, I did manage to finish it and would order it again. Then the pizzas came. We were both disappointed. They were not in the oven enough for the dough to cook and the cheese was not melted and bubbly. If I had paid full price for the pizza I would have sent them back, which is something I never do. They were so reasonable on the happy hour menu I ate some and took the rest home hoping I could reheat them enough to enjoy the leftovers. I would consider trying this resultant again. I really enjoyed the experience. A lot of reviews commented on the slow service, I thought it was perfect for a leisurely, relaxing dinner. We saw the good reviews and decided to try it last night and sat in the small outdoor area. The meal started off good with the octopus salad. We noticed the owner walking around the outside area greeting every other table and asking other customers how was their food and thanked them for coming. We just happen to be the only table of non-white customers that he completely ignore. He walked right by us twice. Did he think we were deaf or just oblivious to his racist behavior? My husband ordered the fettuccine special and bit into a small piece of metal in his pasta. Luckily he didn't cut his mouth on it. I ordered the spaghetti vongole and my spaghetti was basically raw. We happen to eat a lot of pasta and know what handmade pasta and al dente tastes like, but this spaghetti was undercooked and a mess. We asked for our waiter and instead the owner comes out to apologize for the metal. And instead of apologizing for the undercooked pasta as well, he tries to convince us that this is how fresh pasta is supposed to taste. As if it was impossible that his chef could have undercooked the pasta. He could have tried the pasta himself and judged it but kept on insisting that any fresh pasta would taste like this. He asked if we wanted a different pasta and we were willing to give the restaurant another chance by agreeing to try a different pasta. However, our experience up to this point was pretty disappointing and we no longer wanted to stay and give patron to a restaurant and owner who had no respect for non-white customers. We asked the waiter to cancel the pastas and just let us pay for our octopus salad so we could leave. At this point the owner comes over and again tries to point out that the problem is not on their end but rather that we didn't know what fresh pasta should taste like. We were appalled and done at this point. He coincidentally neglected to apologize for the metal we found in our pasta but simply only focus on us not knowing what fresh pasta tastes like. He tried to tell us we didn't need to pay for the salad but we insisted and he just kept saying no and walked off, dismissing us even further. We have every intention of paying for what we ate and wanted it to be clear that we weren't trying to aim for a free meal. After the owner walked away, we asked for our waiter and paid for our salad. The owner sees this and tries to take our credit card out of the machine. Like seriously?! Don't touch my stuff. Your customer service is already terrible and now you're trying to force your opinion on us? Luckily the transaction went through. He again tries to apologize by telling us that's how fresh pasta is supposed to taste. Basically trying to blame us for their bad food and bad customer service again. He again conveniently forgot to apologize for the metal. We have never walked out of a restaurant before no matter how bad the food was. But this level of poorly executed food and then insulting the customers for it and the unsafe metal we found, and lastly the extremely poor behavior of the owner made this a horrible experience. I suggest the owner learn some better manners and learn how to truly apologize instead of fake apologizing while blaming the customers. The only saving grace was the octopus salad and our waiter who was an actual professional and did their job well. read more

It was my first time to this restaurant, beautiful, just the inside tables setup are too closed to each others. Recommend seating outside if weather is allowed for more privacy and won't touching the back of someone seating behind you. Overall Service was very good. Although the service was generally good, I take issue with the following: After placing our order with the waiter, telling him specifically what we wanted and when he asked if there was anything else, we told him no thank you that's it. He then asked if we would like bread with it. We said yes-assuming that because he offered (like many restaurants) that it was complimentary-after all it is an Italian restaurant. We were charged 5$ for it w/o notice. We didnt even eat it because it was stale. The other issue we had was with the surprise add on service charges for "employees". This is suppose to be clearly and obviously marked on a menu if the restaurant is going to tack this on. STATE LAW! Well it surprised us. We didnt get a chance to even look at our receipt because the waiter put down the check and then presented us with his tablet to pay. I dont agree with this "employee" add on to begin with because it is a money grab in my opinion. These 2 issues together left us with a bad experience and we dont think that we will return read more

Great atmosphere! Outdoor seating and Indoor seating. Love the color choice of their chairs outdoors. Love the dinnerware trying to be in alignment with Positano and Amalfi Coast. I love it!! I'd love to return and try more dishes. It was a great place for my mom and I to enjoy a quick lunch together. The fritto de mare was delicious. There was shrimp and calamari and it was cooked to perfection. Very tender and not over cooked. Since it was lunch we decided to share the salmon salad and the pasta special. Very delicious lunch. AMAZING place for groups. They have an entire side house for bigger groups and it worked perfectly for my group of 20. The waiter was amazing and was patient enough for our 17 adults and 3 little kids. They had a set menu for our bigger group but they also gave us a bigger menu just in case. The food was great! The Pollo Parmigiana was a little dry for the chicken but my boyfriends Pasta Rigatoni alla Siciliana was delicious! It didn't have a protein but it didn't even need it. My local friends brought me to their favorite Italian place in Danville and I can see why! It's a beautiful spot with multiple indoor seating areas and a big patio. The manager, hostess and servers were all really nice, helpful and attentive (shout out to Sophia). We brought a bottle of cab but ordered more wine off the healthy wine list. Calamari and meatball appetizers were great, the pizzas looked amazing, and my rigatoni with Italian sausage and short rib (a special, not on the menu) was excellent. The service was attentive and the food was pretty good- I got the strozzapreti, my wife got the carbonara, and my friend got one of the specials, the cioppino. My strozzapreti was tasty and done well, my wife thought the carbonara was so-so, and my friend really enjoyed the cioppino. There was a good amount of fish/seafood in there, it looked good to me! When we sat down I heard a couple next to us saying how they've been waiting a very long time to get their check after waiting a very long time to get their food. That should've been a clue for us. They are extremely disorganized and offer very poor service. To the point of wishing we didn't come. We got a zucchini blossom appetizer, a glass of wine, and a special cocktail within 30 minutes. Not quick but not terrible at all. Waiting an hour and a half for our entrée was really a big drag. Nobody came to check on us at all. We had a very difficult time flagging anybody down to ask for a wine list to order a second glass of wine to pass the time. We asked two different people and never got the wine list. I ordered the special zucchini pappardelle pasta with shrimp. An hour and a half after being sat we got our entrée. Mine contained no zucchini and only three shrimp and it was in a weird eggy, not creamy, sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly though. My wife got the gnocchi with red sauce. It was good. The lack of attention cost them additional income as we would've bought more wine to pass the time, had they looked at us at all. read more

We had no idea this place existed, tucked away on a corner in Downtown Danville. By far the most authentic Italian pizza we've tried locally! The restaurant is much bigger than we expected, and the ambience was very similar to places we visited while in Italy. Very impressed! The servers all spoke Italian, and the owner greeted us with a smile. There was free bread offered after we ordered, and the olive oil was divine. The pizzas are enough for two people to share. I'm a sucker for a sausage pizza, and this delivered! The crust was cooked to perfection, not soggy at all but impressively thin and crunchy. We'll be back! read more

The decor and ambiance was very cute, however, the food was lacking. I ordered the gnocchi pesto and there wasn't any flavor, tasted very bland. My husband ordered the margherita pizza and said it tasted like cardboard. We came here for the first time on a date night, and just overall not impressed. When I go to Italian restaurants I usually opt for the gnocchi pesto, and I will definitely continue to go to my usual spot in Benicia (Bella Sienna) because they are by far better. Came here for lunch today. I ordered a kids cheese pizza, a fungi pizza, and fritto misto appetizer. The kids pizza was super cute, looked like a Mickey Mouse and was delicious. Puffy chewy crust being the highlight. The fritto misto was overall okay and had a generous portion. Artichoke hearts - the leaves portion- a little fibrous, but tasty. Shrimp, way over fried and dark brown.. very tough. :/ The fungi pizza came very late, much later after the appetizer and kid's pizza arrived. I was getting full by then so I only ate a small slice before asking for the check. I took the rest home but just now discovered that the pizza dough under the tomato sauce is completely raw, white, pasty, and gooey. Ugh. I called to let them know what happened so hopefully they can make sure this doesn't happen to other patrons. The waitress that helped me initially was really cool, but the next one with dyed blonde hair that took over gave me a Togo box super small that didn't fit my leftover pizza (with raw dough) and when I asked for small sauce containers for the olive sauces and hot sauce with the fritto misto, she immediately said she didn't have any which is kinda weird so I asked her if she had any smaller to go boxes I could take the sauce in and she proceeded to give me two small plastic sauce containers- like the two tablespoon ones- with no lids. I asked her do you have lids, she said no and walked away. Very strange. I then had to ask her for a receipt printout and she was nowhere to be found. Luckily, there was another waitress with really stunning eyes, super friendly, that gave me lids to the containers and bagged my Togo food. Even so, the whole end of my dining experience there left kind of a bad taste in my mouth. Add that to the raw dough and pizza I took togo that is inedible... this place definitely is not on my list. The reason for my two star review is because of the following: 1. fritto misto - 3 out of 5 2. Kid's cheese pizza - 4.5 out of 5 3. Fungi pizza - 0 out of 5 4. Service - 2 out of 5 The average scoring comes out to roughly 2.something... under 2.5 for sure, so, I give them a 2 star rating. read more
