Honestly I was really excited to try this place and wanted to give it five stars because the menu is really exciting! Different from most Mexican restaurants out here and some exciting sounding flavors. But unfortunately the restaurant completely ignored our order we placed through grub hub and even though we got a notification saying it was ready it wasn't. So after waiting an hour already my husband had to wait an additional 20 min while they whipped it up quickly. I was fine with it until I tasted the food... it was pretty mediocre and lacking in flavor honestly. I had steak tacos... severely under-seasoned but the pico saved it along with the lime they gave. I'm not usually one to write reviews but this was such an amazing experience I had to download Yelp! The food was amazing, guacamole tasted very fresh and the queso fundeo was probably the best I've ever had. For my main course I had the chile relleno, which was delicious. The rice and beans on the side were phenomenal! I ate everything, no leftovers. Lastly we had delicious churros for dessert with house made ice cream. We really enjoyed our dinner here. We ordered Guacamole for starters and it was delicious. Our friends who don't even eat guacamole really liked it. I got a chicken tortilla soup and shared the rib eye steak tacos. Our friends really enjoyed their shrimp tacos. All of it was delicious. We wanted some good Mexican food while in the Phoenix area. We were not disappointed!!!! My husband has CAMARONES CON ESPINACAS, I had PECHUGA RELLENA (my husband kept stealing my food, and plans to order this dish next time, even though he loved his dish too) - the smoky chipotle sauce was AMAZING, my son had the rib eye tacos, and my daughter had the SOLID ROCK CHICKEN ENCHILADAS. My boys ordered from the kids menu (they're 10 & 11 yrs old), they got the nachos and the tacos, they enjoyed their meal! I was impressed on how large the servings were! It is not transparent when your child orders off the kids menu, which includes a fountain drink, and they are brought a Mexican soda and you find out when the bill comes that it is not actually included but an additional $3.50. This is the worst place in Mesa the service sucks I got there with my wife we were assigned a table there was no more tables around us there was an event taking place on the upper level a qinceanera we were told. the sound level of the music coming from the event was deafening we. Couldn't carry a normal conversation among us it was super loud. Soon there was more tables full of people around us the poor server had 7 tables by herself but before we knew every one that came after us were eating and our food never arrive so we went up to the hostess and ask for the check to pay for the drinks and an appetizer that we eat and cancel the entrée the owner seems not to give a s... t about our horrible experience he said that he had 100 people taking care of in the upper level and he was not prepare he never try to make it up to us (we did not want anything for free) he didn't care about the whole thing obviously he does not have a clue how to run a restaurant business specially in this time when customer dollars is very important for the survival of the business and the guest count is detrimental to the success of your business I appreciate the experience in restaurants that care about the customer los sombreros is not better than Filiberto's don't waste your gas going here Filiberto's has better food and they treat you better don't go here their service sucks. read more

The food is really good! We tried the second pork dish (a special type of carnitas) and the second shrimp dish on the house specialties section and both of them are very good! Different from the usual Mexican food. The salsa for chips is very good too. The owner served us and he definitely cared about his restaurant and is proud about his food. Beyond expectations! Service was seriously the best I have ever experienced. We had called to make reservations this afternoon and they were able to accommodate our party of four. We walked in, greeted with warm smiles, and promptly seated. The restaurant was beautiful inside, separated yet open concept. True cantina style decor with warm and muted colors. We made it for happy hour, so we started with drinks and an order of Queso Fundido, some of THE BEST I have ever tasted. I could have stopped there, but of course, no one does . We all ordered something different, so we could taste everything. The Green Corn Tamale was unbelievable! The Elote was the best I have ever had with huge portions! The Alambre Ribeye Tacos were also tender and very filling. My husband had Puerco en Chipotle and the pork (roasted 15 hours) melted in your mouth! He LOVED it! Above and beyond the food, the service was epic. Every single employee was beyond efficient and working around the restaurant. Every. Move. Counted! I'm not quite sure why this place has 4.5 stars. We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the area and were excited to try this place. We made a reservation and were seated right away by the hostess. The place is decorated nicely and has a cute modern southwest feel. Unfortunately things went south after we were seated. It was a Tuesday night and they were not very busy but we waited 15+ minutes for water and chips on their hot outdoor patio. When our server finally came over we ordered drinks and an app. I asked the server a question about a type of liquor in one of the drinks and she said she was new so didn't know what it was. I wrote it off as being an obscure liquor and understanding that she was new, and I ordered a standard margarita instead. It took another 15 minutes to get our drinks and our appetizer never came. For some reason they brought out my entree several minutes before my boyfriend's (there were only 2 of us at the table). Our guess is that the kitchen mis-timed this because mine looked like it had been sitting a while. The second entree was delivered and our server told us things were taking a while because the kitchen was backed up as we sat there in front of her with empty water glasses, empty drink glasses, and still no appetizer. We asked again for the app and she did not apologize for the delay, just said "ok" and walked away without offering another drink or filling our waters. I ordered the tamales, took 2 bites of my dinner and asked the busser for a box because it was not good. My boyfriend ordered enchiladas which were much better so I ended up eating some of his. Our server never questioned why I hadn't eaten any of my meal and our appetizer never came. We interacted with another server and the busser while we were there as well - no one working seemed to have any sense of urgency or customer service. We were pretty baffled that we ordered an appetizer twice that never came and not once did our server apologize for that or for how long our food and drinks took to come out. We liked the decor and the drinks, but unfortunately the service was so poor that this was a pretty disappointing experience. Maybe this was an off night, but based upon this experience I don't recommend Los Sombreros. read more

We got there close to closing time, but still received superb service and food was delicious!
