Had dinner last night while in Tempe to bring my son home for ASU. We had a great dinner on the outdoor patio. Covid precautions are still in place with the staff wearing masks and masks still required when walking to and from the table. The chips and salsa were very tasty and the perfect combination with margaritas as we waited for our entrees. We both went for pork- puerco en chipotle and puerco en mole verde. The carnitas are not the traditional carnitas, because of the wood fire, they taste like really good bbq pork. The salsas that were with the pork were delicious. You have to get a margarita. We went safe with the steve-a-rita and sonoran rose, but a couple of tables had a real "fire and ice" show with a margarita that had a dry ice element and one they ignited and sprinkled with cinnamon to make some pretty sparks. Wow! Even one of the waitstaff who was new was excited and impressed! We will definitely go back when we return in the Fall. read more

I love your guys food, but unfortunately today I was totally lied too! I wanted to get 1 order of the chicken flatus, and I thought I would call in a order since I'm right around the corner. I noticed the time change on Apple Maps for Halloween (they close at 4) I called at 3:53. When they picked up, I said "I wanted to place a Togo, but I saw you guys close at 4, is that correct?" I was asking because I am in the food industry myself. And I understand how frustrating it is waiting on a Togo order to be picked up! I was told "we actually closed at 3. We all have kiddos at home." Now the reason I called and asked was because if you were closing at 4, I would have waited till TOMORROW to order my food since I have been craving those Flatus! I would not have expected you guys to make my order today! But then I saw on Instagram, he totally lied to me!!! I feel very disrespected especially knowing that this is the manger. Called ahead to check on the wait time. 30 minutes. Arrived. There was a party of 2 ahead of us and 3 or 4 empty tables that were clean or needed cleaning. All of the staff appeared to be busy and working. No host/hostess. A waiter told the party of 2 ahead of us it would be 10-15 minutes...okay. As the time passed, additional groups began coming in and the wait persisted without much concern from the staff. After the party of 2 were seated, I thought it would not be long now. When a waiter came up to seat the next party a man behind us piped up and said, "hey wait, we have a reservation." He did and I couldn't argue with that. So I went to the bar to try to get my wife and myself a beer while we waited. Several employees saw me and acknowledged me but never attempted to provide service with cash in my hand. After hearing and seeing, it was clear that they had no host, no bartender (waiters making their own drinks), and one waitress explaining that they had no manager on duty. We left after wasting 30 minutes of our time. Went to Manuel's 2 min / 1 mile down the road. Great food, Larry, who helps the wait staff shine, earned a $105 from me for being a hard worker. Bottom line, sLos Sombreros failed before they could even serve the meal because they lacked a host, a bartender, and a manager. The few wait staff they had seemed to be trying, but without a team, it was a complete disaster and failure. We left. read more

Then waited another 20-25 min for a plate of corn, kids tacos, and a shrimp cocktail which was a appetizer. Also the vibe was not there the guy playing music sucked. Beautiful restaurant, Had a friendly and fun atmosphere! also had what appears to be an appetizing menu. It's a shame we never got to enjoy those crispy carnitas tacos. Thank you to the sweet young, brunette host, who served us water and chips with salsa, that could have had a little bit of a kick. After people watching and snacking on our (unsalted) chips, 35 minutes of making eye contact multiple times with the server in our section, only to witness her go back to the bar and sip a marg with her co worker. We decided to politely get up and leave, as exiting the restaurant we are greeted with "have a good night ladies, thanks" we replied to them that we were never served and to have a good night. To add, i know most restaurant were understaffed right now, however the restaurant is not large and several servers, hostesses, bussers and even a manager passed us on multiple occasions without even addressing us as we sat there with our half drank waters and empty basket of chips. We are in Mesa for a spring baseball trip and we're craving Mexican food when my daughter spotted Los Sombreros on Yelp. So glad she found this gem! It is a quaint restaurant with great service and amazing food and drinks. We started with the queso fundido, and my daughter and I had margaritas while my husband enjoyed a smoky old fashioned--all delicious. Lunch was so yummy. I had the green corn tamale from the lunch menu. I was already full from the appetizer when my entree arrived, but I ate every bite of the tamale--so good! My husband had shrimp tacos and said they were the best he's ever had. Our kids had pork tacos and chicken enchiladas and both loved theirs as well. Our server was accurate, friendly, and attentive. After lunch another person (a manager or perhaps the owner?) stopped by our table to ask how our meals were and to make sure we enjoyed everything. In town for spring training, found Los Sombreros Mesa via yelp. Service was great! Food was very good. The smoke came through with the carnitas, delicious! Teenage son, who can be picky, ordered the shrimp tacos. He was the first one done and commented "it was good". Wife and aunt split the pollo con spinacas, they both loved it. Don't typically write reviews, but this place absolutely compelled me to leave my opinion. As it turned out we walked in just a day or two after their soft opening. Just last week. We were greeted by our server very promptly and soon after a very kind gentleman arrived to say hello, introduced himself as the owner and mentioned how excited he was about the establishment and the two of us being there. Following after we ordered our food, the owner arrived once more telling us we just had to try their guacamole which he brought out with him. This was the start of what I realized was going to great meal based on the phenomenal fresh guacamole we were given. I ordered an enchilada with a cinnamon based mole and my girlfriend ordered a tortilla soup, as well as a pork dish with veggies and tortillas. Very disappointed. Visiting the area and wanted some good Mexican food. Los Sombreros was number 1 so why not. Went at 8pm. Not busy at all. Just a few tables. Took several min to get chips. Several more for the waitress. Placed our order. She came back 5 min later. Out of rellenos - my go to favorite. And the tamales - only one kind - vegetarian. No good ole pork tamale. Ok it is taco Tuesday and there's a special. Great we'll do that. However you can't mix them. All beef. All chicken. All shrimp. No mixing. And if you want crispy you only get 2 not 3. Also, never got my queso fundido. Tacos were good, quite tasty, but they were mini - tiny. Not filling at all. Dessert she asks? Goes through the list. My daughter says churros, yes that would be great. 5 min later - sorry, we're all out. That's it. I'm done. 1 thing I can deal with. 2 maybe. But this meal was one thing after another.
