It's okay. Not particularly good but certainly not bad. The menu is very limited. It is comprised of ground beef, fajita beef, and fajita chicken. No pork, shredded chicken, or any traditional Mexican meats. It is bland, boring TexMex, but it is done properly. The lunch menu is a disappointment. The reason I gave Los Tios a 4 is because of the food. Personally the service wasn't the best but who can complain when the food is so delicious? I understand that rude waiters and waitresses can ruin a dinner, but my family and I usually don't pay attention to those things unless the servers are downright belittle us. (Other people seemed really bothered by it and I might of bumped it down to a 3star is some of those things on other reviews happened to me.) Visiting Mexico a few times has given me greater intuition on how mexican food should taste. This helped me in determining the quality of Los Tios tex-mex. We have been on a quest to find an amazing Mexican restaurant in Houston. This was our first visit to Los Tios. It was good - not great. We were greeted and sat promptly. Our server came to the table a few minutes later. She was nice. We were served chips & salsa while we looked at the menu. The salsa was good, had a lot of cilantro. The chips were just okay. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes and my spouse ordered Tacos. The Enchiladas were made well, had decent flavor, just not a lot of chicken. The rice was delicious & the charro beans were just mediocre. Didi makes the best, strongest margaritas! Love coming here for chips and drinks! It's always a great spot to get some fresh food and drinks. 2018 review- The bar staff brings this up another star. We've tried this place out again several times on Thursday nights (free queso) and sat at the bar. The margs are still a bit overpriced, but I've noticed quite a few other places have also raised their prices so it's not as far off the mark as before. I try to give a place about 3 tries or more before I give a review. Unfortunately for Los Tios, that actually hurt them. It would be a 2.5 if they allowed half stars.The first visit was a strong 3.5 that I would have rounded up to a 4 with that score heavily related to the first couple margaritas we had there, unfortunately it's gone steadily down hill each visit. If you don't Pros- 1.Service staff is friendly and attentive. I have never had to repeat or remind of what was ordered, it's brought out correct the first time. The management has come around 2 out of the 4 times we've visited to see what we think of the visit. They seem genuinely interested in our overall satisfaction. 2. The meats are very tasty. They cook the meats with wood. This gives them a very distinctive mesquite flavor. 3. The margaritas are made with what tastes like real lime juice, not a cheap mix (even the house marg). This makes them very tasty. Cons- 1. The margaritas are very hit or miss with alcohol content. The first time we went they were VERY strong, which is what we like. The second time, they were average strength. The third time, it tasted very weak. My guess is they are not stirring/mixing the batch regularly. 2. The food itself is rather bland. Without the flavor of the meats pulling the dishes through, you wouldn't really even be able to taste most of the dishes. They also don't have any type of house made or specialized hot sauces (just your standard Tabasco) which is unfortunate, as each dish I've tried could really use it. 3. Perhaps the biggest factor in the lower review is that they recently raised prices for happy hour margaritas. It used to be $3.50 for house margaritas, which was on par with the hit or miss alcohol content. As of last week, the new happy hour deal is 1$ off all margaritas. Went there today during happy hour and left so mad and upset. Food was pretty good but I had a CoronaRita (which is a house margarita and a Corona beer, they flip the beer over in your Margarita). So when I get my bill, $14.00 for the drink. I told the gentleman that rang it up if I would have ordered a Corona and a Rita separate it would have been a lot cheaper. This is probably the worst Mexican restaurant around the Houston area. This place is extremely overpriced for such terrible quality and bland tasting food. I ordered the crispy taco plate which came with two tacos rice and beans. The taco shell had tons of grease on it and so did the meat. It was like eating a Crisco salad. The rice had absolutely no flavor and the beans taste just like canned beans. Looks great! BUT..... They have made changes on the food. And not for the better. The Laredo was gross, according to my husband. He said the rice is different and very bland. There was so much cilantro in the salsa, it didn't taste like salsa. Charo beans were bland, no flavor. THIS IS THE WORST ONE FOR ME, the sour cream is some new stuff. Tastes like yogurt. Bleh. In the land of 10,000 Mexican restaurants, this location stands out. First the management. I came here because of a gift card. When I got there the card was an "old card" and not in their data base. No problem. Manager gave me a new card to use the next time. Because it was a Sunday evening corporate office was closed so it could not be activated. The combo meal was very good and the queso was very good also. My friend had the tacos el carbon and that is when we decided to come back. The fajita meat was tender, tasty and grilled over real wood. It had that wonderful smokey taste. On the second trip it was the fajitas without a doubt and they were fantastic. The margaritas were also very good. Back to the management. On my second trip I went to use the new gift card but it had never been activated at corporate. No problem, the manager honored it on the spot. While we were talking to the manager he told us that they can basically make or alter anything on the menu or off the menu. Just ask the server. He said there were also "off menu items" that we should ask about next time. All in all a good positive 4. Ugh. I will never go to Los Tios again. We had the rudest waitress, Francis. She was unfriendly, unpleasant, never smiled, and was just plain annoyed to be there. It was a big inconvenience to her to wait on us! Our margaritas were BAD. Just really bad. My mom's dinner was terrible. I grew up here and always went to Los Tios as a child. Now I live in Dallas and am in town visiting my parents this week (with my 6yo & 3yo). This was the first time we've been out to eat all week and it was a huge disappointment. From the managers, waitstaff, bus staff, hostesses, bartenders and cooks - it's a pleasure to be here. Since we have visited since childhood, the food has been consistent, well-prepared and delicious. One of their long time managers, "Tino", has trained and groomed a great staff who he encourages to pursue their dreams and assists them in that endeavor. Always get the same thing, chicken enchiladas. It's alright, but I did have them cater to my work last week and others loved it. Hub always gets the same thing too. So at least, it's predicable. The margarita is so good and since I spilled the first one, and they replaced it without a prob, they deserve a good rating for that. We went to Los Tios (the boyfriend and I) last night for dinner. When we walked in, the decor definitely hasn't been updated for probably 15 years, but I mean as long as it's clean and doesn't look like an old Cici's Pizza made into a Mexican Food place... I don't really care. I'm there to eat, not admire the decor (well, at least not in Sugar Land). Down to the nitty gritty. I have high standards for queso and margaritas. The price better be reasonable for a top shelf, there should be a frozen option for at least one of the top shelves, and I don't want it super sweet. I was IMPRESSED by their margs, the frozen consistency compares to Ninfaritas. We got the Ultimate and it was sooooo good. Queso was... Meh... And the small was teeny tiny. I need lots of queso, I'm from Willis, Texas. We shared the Presidente Fajitas for One and they were delicious. With the chips, salsa and queso, it was enough for both of us. Prices are reasonable, much better than Cafe Adobe, Lupe Tortilla and Pappasitos. All in all, I would probably pick this as my new place to go for margs in Sugar Land. read more
