Lotteria is one of the classic fast food of South Korea, now available in the U.S. First, this is a fast food chain. You cannot expect like gourmet dine in food. We are just here to see if its a good or bad fast food. Or overall fast food meal to enjoy to dine in or take out. Bulgogi burger has that signature first bite. Its like semi eating candied burger meat with heavy mayo that balances out the candiness. Its kind of euphoric almost like that first hit of dopamine that floods your brain with endorphine and seratonins. After the first bite you feel like the happiest happy boy ever. Or happiest happy girl. Shrimp burger is the same way but with almost like that signature tartare sauce that blends in with the shrimp and crispy fried semi panko like crust. It feels like eating the most delicious korean seafood flavor snack but sort of like in a burger form. These burgers will make you happiest boy and girl in the planet despite the long wait or service. If you know, And grew up with Lotteria you know. Today is the 2nd day from their grand opening and the wait was 2.5 hours. But! They provided umbrellas and water to anyone in line. The burgers we ordered were fresh and very tasty. Something so different from things we've tried. We also tried their shake it fries with the onion flavoring. Nicely fried fries and the onion powder was slightly sweet which was unusual but tasty. Plenty of seating inside and outside with table umbrellas in a patio area. We will definitely be back but will wait for the newness to wear out a bit. read more

I was surprised to hear that Lotteria was opening their first US location so close to my hometown but I'm glad I got to be apart of their grand opening!! Came early in the morning around 7am to get in the first 100 for the exclusive Stanley tumbler (the design is so nice and the tumbler itself was sleek). I waited 3 hours until they officially opened at 10am and waited another 30min to get in the store and place my order. I was pleasantly surprised by how organized the whole event was--normally with grand openings it could be quite chaotic and unorganized and considering they were only soft-opened for 3 days I wasn't expecting much since I have read other previous reviews but my experience was overall positive and I have nothing to really complain about. They had security hand out numbers around 8:30am to prevent people from cutting and just guaranteed me to get my tumbler. Ordering process was easy and smooth, I ordered with a kind employee and then waited for my number and name to be called out. I got my food pretty quickly considering the amount of people waiting for their food too. There was seating inside and outside but the inside of the store was pretty small so I did have to wait around the area to find a spot to sit and eat at (but this shouldn't be a problem once things start to calm down a bit). Now onto the food, I ordered the bulgogi burger, shrimp burger, and the shake it fries (cheese flavor). I initially was going to get the combo since it comes with a burger, fries, and soft drink but I didn't really care for a drink and realized the combo price is the same as getting each item individually so I got the items individually without the drink. The food was hot and warm when I received it but it did get pretty cold quickly so I recommend eating it fresh once you get it. I personally really liked the bulgogi burger, it had the right amount of sweetness (though I can see it being on the sweeter end for others) and tasted like teriyaki sauce. The bulgogi patty was tender, juicy, and soft. The shrimp burger was good too, I like I can visibly see the shrimp so you know they use a generous amount of real shrimp. It wasn't as crunchy as I thought but I think it's also because I left it out a bit longer so it is on me that it got cold but I still enjoyed it. The sauce paired really well, I think it's like a mayo and tartar combination. The fries were surprisingly good, I wasn't expecting much from the cheese flavor but it gave a nice flavor to it and it wasn't too cheesy for me which is good since I don't love cheese but I would prefer the cheese over onion flavoring. I also just love the experience of being able to put in the sauce powder and shake it up. The fries were crispy and hot when I received it, it is honestly one of the crispiest fries I've had in awhile which is one of the most important things I want my fries to be. Overall, a very solid burger spot that I know I will frequent especially when I'm not feeling in an American burger mood. Bonus points that it's close to my home so they chose the right place to open at haha. I am interested in the cup bingsu which I saw a lot of people get so I definitely will be trying that next time! Would I wait 3 hrs in line for this? No. Would I wait 2 hours in drive thru? Hell no. It's not to die for but certain menu are worth to make me visit again. Cheese will make fries even greasier. Lotteria fries were average at best, powder or not, and I wish they give you BBQ sauce or ketchup for fries. Oh, and I think there's only one size for fries IIRC. Service: Ok. Not bad but nothing spectacular. I would consider Chik-Fil-A's level of service (hygiene, promptness, courtesy, cheery) as the pinnacle of service in the fast food industry. Having said that Lotteria falls somewhere in the middle, with slightly better than average. Vibe: It's a brand new place with colorful theme. But place is not that big. Dont think of it as McDonald big or In N Out big. Maybe 6-7 tables or so in thr inside with additional outdoor seating area. Lotteria corp is probably playing safe with modest first store size to test the waters for expansion down the road. Dont expect too much. Price: One can argue that In N Out price is unbeatable when factoring quality, taste, and service. Chik Fil A is a bit premium but you get high quality (I hope) and better service. Lotteria, when factoring quanity and quality of food, taste and etc, probably falls in the middle with slightly better than average. Would I pay same price to eat betweeen Lotteria or In N Out, I would choose In N Out, except for Lotteria's shrimp burger. Gosh I wanna eat that shrimp burger again. I'll order two next time. :) In summary, would I come back to Lotteria? Yes. Shrimp burger and shaved ice have me guessing to try other menus. I've been to many Lotteria locations over the years, so I was genuinely excited to try the first California location. The exterior is adorable and inviting. Unfortunately, the excitement quickly faded once I stepped inside. The store was completely empty, yet the staff seemed unfriendly and avoided eye contact. After standing there for a few moments feeling unwelcome, I decided to order from the touchscreen instead. Before my food was ready, I tried to use the restroom and realized it required a code. I waited for someone to acknowledge me, and when no one did, I said "Excuse me." An employee shouted the code from across the store, but when I tried it, it didn't work after several attempts. Thankfully, another employee eventually noticed and helped me. The restroom was clean, but it had a noticeable sewage smell. My food took longer than expected for a fast-food restaurant, especially since I was the only customer. The drink station was another issue. The ice machine made a huge mess -- ice flew everywhere when I tried to fill my cup. I was embarrassed, even though no one saw. Shortly after, another customer had the same problem. Melted ice and water were left on the floor, creating a slippery hazard. In fact, a toddler almost slipped while walking out because of it. That's a serious safety concern. Now, the food: I ordered the bulgogi burger, shrimp burger, fries, and a drink. * The buns were very dense and doughy -- not light and fluffy like I expected. * The bulgogi patty was also dense and not nearly as flavorful as the bulgogi burgers I've had in Korea. * The shrimp burger was better, but again the bun affected the overall taste. * The fries were freshly made but the portion was extremely small -- more like a kids' meal size. Overall, it was exciting to try, but after this visit, I don't feel motivated to return. I expected some delays since the place was new, so I was understanding. The food itself was interesting and fairly decent. Second visit (1 month later): This time I waited 1 hour for just two burger combos. That was not okay, especially when I could clearly see dozens of finished burgers sitting in the food warmer. It almost felt like they were making people wait on purpose -- maybe to appear busy or relevant? Third visit: The wait time was shorter, which was an improvement. I've seen these restaurants in Korea and Japan and was excited to see one open much closer to home. I'm giving it 5 stars since it was their soft opening and the first location in America - will definitely come back and update my rating at a later time after all the kinks have been worked out.... We were handed golf umbrellas to shield us from the sun and water bottles 12:30pm - not completely sure of the time, I'm going based on their ig story. But they closed the line completely. Everything else is still available, but we were just limited on which burgers to order 12:55pm - placed our order. You order with the cashier and stare at everyone seated in hopes of finding a seat. Or you sit outside in their shaded patio. 2:15pm - finally received our food. We ordered the shrimp burger, bulgolgi burger, onion fries, cheese fries, and shake it chicken. Shrimp burger was great, and made with real shrimp. Bulgolgi burger was decent but I much preferred the shrimp one. Chicken was super crispy and would be great drinking food. For the fries and chicken, they gave us seasoning packets to put into the food, and shake it so the seasoning covers it all. We preferred cheese over onion. Overall, thank you to my husband for having the patience to wait so long with me. Highly recommend you either wait for the lines to die down, or have one person stand in line while the other does errands or gets coffee nearby (there's Starbucks inside Target, Better Buzz coffee, a few boba shops including Sunright, etc.). My advice to the staff - if you are not able to keep up with demand, plan a soft opening menu with limited items from the beginning. Went to LA to check this place out. Actually didn't expect much because I wasn't aware how popular it is in SK. Both dine-in and drive-thru had long line. So my curiosity got more higher. Menu was not much, but I guess for us to pick easier. Hard to sit inside because it was pack, so even after you order you will need to wait for a seat and your food. To be fair my experience was probably a 3.5 , came here and since I had to charge my Tesla this location was a plus! Walking in, I went directly to the restroom. There was a combo code and somebody from staff just told me the code right away which I thought was nice. The restaurant in general was very clean. The staff was cleaning and you can tell they really tried, that being said when I got my cup directly from the staff, there was an ant on it I asked her to replace it no big deal it happens. Moving onto the food, the price was OK. It was about $15 for the deluxe combo. It's definitely a smaller burger from the western brand, but the quality was a lot better in regards to the meat so it's very hard to compare and say that this was a lot more expensive than McDonalds or in and out it's 2 different products. Overall, the burger was good pretty tasty, but I felt that it could be a little bit more warm. The fries were cold and nothing special probably one of the worst fries I've had from all the fast food places tasted very similar to Wienerschnitzel fries if I had to compare it. The onion sauce powder did make it better.. Other than that not much else. Would I come again? The line was fairly long, and the service was slower than we expected, which made the wait a bit frustrating--it felt less like fast food and more like slow food. It seemed like they might be a little short-staffed or still adjusting to how busy they were. When the food arrived, it was decent but not outstanding. I honestly don't understand how this chain became popular enough to expand overseas. I was excited to try this place after hearing all the buzz and seeing the long lines at both the drive thru and in person. I went on an afternoon, thinking the food had to be worth the hype. The beef patties tasted like cheap, frozen grocery store patties, almost just like the 90% lean 10% fat frozen beef patties. They were dry, bland, and completely unseasoned, with no moisture at all. The fries were cold, hard, and chewy, and the chicken came with just 3-4 small pieces for $6. The only thing that tasted remotely fresh was the fried shrimp patty. As my wife and I are of Japanese and Korean heritage, Lotteria has always been a special place for us. Whether in Japan or Korea, we made it a tradition to visit, and we've continued this for 30 years with our children joining in as well. So when we heard a Lotteria branch had opened just 40 minutes away, we had to go and experience it. Unfortunately, what should have been a nostalgic and joyful visit turned into disappointment and frustration. From the time we arrived to the time we finally received all our food, it took 2 hours and 35 minutes (90 minutes in line, 55 minutes waiting at the table, and another 10 minutes for missing items). My daughter even threw away half her burger because it was too cold by the time it arrived. The operation was completely mismanaged. Most of the staff stood around unsure of what to do, while one person ran frantically trying to hold everything together. Believing he was the manager, I approached him to give feedback. To my surprise, he wasn't a local manager at all, but someone sent from the main Korea office to help. He was apologetic and genuinely tried to make things better. Honestly, I felt sorry for him--he was working harder than the entire local team combined. After driving by weekly since their opening, the line finally seemed to be short enough to give it a try. Now, with any new food establishment (especially fast food), I set my expectations to be sub par while the staff gains some experience and adjustments made to the overall business. That being said, here are my key takeaways: the food tastes delicious, the staff is friendly and working hard but has room for improvement, the photos advertised are misleading, in time this place can be excellent. Lotteria is known for originating the "K-burger", a bulgogi seasoned beef patty burger with bulgogi sauce. So of course I had to give this a try, but I also decided I needed to try shrimp burger, bibim rice burger, k-bbq fries, and the shake it fries. Everything tasted good, some better than others, but some things I would avoid next time. Let's start with the bulgogi burger. First impressions upon unwrapping it was that it sure didn't look anything like the picture in the ads. I'm hoping this will change in the future and that the party will be bigger... like as big as the flavor this burger has! The flavor of the burger quickly subdued my disappointment in the size of the patty, and earned its spot in "would order again" (but maybe a few of them lol). Next up was the shrimp burger, what I would imagine is a jab at a filet-o-fish. I don't remember much about this one, other than it was perfectly crispy and delicious, because it was devoured in a flash. Last up was the bibim rice burger, a bulgogi burger with a fried egg between two rice buns. As far as flavor goes, this one was the best. The food was decent and there was no line when I went so that was a plus but I don't see myself coming back especially if I have to wait in a crazy line. I finally got to try this place! I had heard about lines but there basically was no line going through the drive through for lunch last Tuesday. I ordered a shrimp burger and fries and even though I didn't get a chance to eat until nearly an hour later, it was still pretty tasty and I would get it again. A bit soggy by that time, that's on me, but the flavor was great! I would have liked a bit more of a toasted or firmer bun. Got the new teri. burger and it was just ok. Not sweet nor salty, pretty plain. There is no seasoning on the pattie, it taste like McDonald's minus the seasoning. Burger pattie thicknesses is a decent size. Will come again if there is any special promotions but not at regular price. read more
