Small cafe on the Taraval strip in outer sunset. The sandwiches here are gooood, pretty on par with grubbin' next door. There's a small amount of seating inside for dine in orders. I opted for the make your own sandwich with roast beef, toppings with Lou's special sauce, all on Dutch crunch bread. Total came out to around $10 for ~a foot long toasted sandwich. Yum! So good the only way my sandwich could have been better is maybe if my bread was softer but I did order a sourdough roll not a soft sweet roll. But otherwise my sandwich was great! Lou's Cafe never disappoints! My grandkids love their roast beef sandwich with mushrooms, which is my usual go-to also, but today I ordered the hot pastrami and that was just as delicious. The sandwiches were toasted and still warm when I got them home about 15 minutes later. The Dutch crunch roll is always crunchy on the outside and nice and soft and chewy on the inside. The Lou's special sauce adds a touch of mystery to the sandwich and is delicious! The lettuce and tomatoes are always fresh and the pickles add that extra bit of tart to the sandwich! Yum! read more

Unfortunately, after years of mostly great food, there have been some bad sandos lately :( 1. rotten onions a couple months back 2. Added horseradish was crazy spicy and spread on suuuper thick the other day, no one could eat it, and today- 3. Rotten lettuce--REALLY bad like gagging bad... So we are gonna have to stay away for a while. They are super busy, so I understand why something like rotten lettuce could be missed when making so many sandwiches. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way, but Lou's is the perfect place to grab a sandwich for a picnic in the park, a hike, or a chill evening at Ocean Beach - all of which I've done! I've only tried the Chicken Pesto and the Crab Melt, and both are delicious! I love that they both have avocado included and I love Dutch Crunch so always substitute it for whatever sandwich I'm getting. Sandwiches are a hefty, hearty size and run around $10. read more

Lou's cafe is right in taraval street in Sunset. When you walk in the left half is a huge menu display with the workers freshly making your sandwiches. The right are refrigerators and a seating area. It's simple, but an extensive menu so there's something for everyone. I got the original breakfast sandwich and the corned beef hash Sammie. The first one gives you a choice of ham or bacon (get both) for the same price. Along with egg, American cheese, hash browns and Lou's special sauce. The SammiE comes with corned beef, cheddar cheese, egg, hash browns and Lou's special sauce. Both were great in texture, portion, taste and price. If I'm in the area I'd be back! read more

Lou's! Lou's, Lou's, Lou's. How are you so delicious? I ordered via Yelp a couple sammies ahead of the concert in the park nearby, and they were not only delicious but ready ahead of schedule. The menu is expansive and has many delicious options - and if you want to create your own that is absolutely fine as well. I created my own sandwich, and it was made exactly to spec and tasted very fresh and quality. There wasn't a line and parking was abundant outside, which is rare for SF! I highly recommend the Dutch Crunch bread and the jalapeño spread. The bread as you can see across many reviews is deliciously crunchy and really compliments the spreads and meats they use. I haven't been to the other location, but really recommend you check Lou's out if you're in the area and want a quick delicious bite! read more

I actually like the location on Taraval more than the Geary location. You can collect their rewards points at both of the location, but overall the Taraval is less crowded and it's bigger. You actually don't have to as long to get your sandwiches even during the lunch rush. They're usually done faster than their estimated time. This is one of my of my favorite sandwiches spots. Their secret sauce is amazing and they pack so much veggies and meat in their sandwiches. My go to sandwiches are the BBQ chicken and pesto chicken. holy smokes! We went in to get your typical sandwich but this place was not your typical sandwich shop. This sandwich is in my top 5 of best sandwiches ever!! It was an Italian sandwich and at first the bread looked a little small but it was way bigger once the meats and veggies were in there. I saved a piece for lunch. The jalapeño sauce that they put on the sandwich ties it all together--- it is a little hot but get it or else your won't enjoy it as much! Hidden Gem! I work close by and our work often orders their sandwiches for luncheons and such. So much variety which is awesome but still consistently good! On the route of the L Taraval street car, so very convenient as well. Recently had the chance to have one of their breakfast sandwiches and it was BOMB.com! Got the Italian Special because I was craving a big hearty sandwich. I gotta say I was slightly disappointed when I received my order because it was a little lighter than I had expected. True enough, when I got home and unwrapped this baby, I could see that the bread was thinner than say, a chunky sourdough. Perhaps it was my fault since the menu did state that this is a soft & sweet roll. To be fair, the toasted roll was indeed soft & sweet. Adjusted expectations aside, the flavours of this sandwich really pop out at you. I think it's the special sauce that sets this sandwich apart from others. I snuck in a few minutes before closing and the staff were so friendly to make our sandwiches. I've had the Geary location bookmarked for awhile, but glad to see that they've opened up in the Sunset. It was a hard choice since everything looks so good, but I went with the Hot & Sweet. The hot & sweet comes with hot links, pineapple slices, cheese, teriyaki sauce, alongside the usual Lou's fixings (I omitted pickles and the jalapeno sauce). He went with the chicken pesto. The chicken pesto came with chicken breast slices, cheese, avocado, and pesto sauce (with the usual Lou's fixings, omitted pickles) Both were listed on the menu as under different breads but we both love Dutch Crunch so we asked for it that way. It only took a few minutes to make and they were hefty! My sandwich was so messy, but so tasty! Hot links weren't really spicy but plump and juicy. The teriyaki and pineapple worked well with the Lou's sauce. The dutch crunch was nice and chewy. The quality in the sandwich is here. His chicken pesto was great too; as the pesto wasn't too strong. I liked the little subtleness of the jalapeno sauce. We still love Little Lucca's but Lou's Cafe is a great deli and affordable in the area (sammies under $8), so 5 stars for location, quality ingredients, affordable prices and tastiness! Tried Lou's today for the first time and split the Ami-cado with my boyfriend. There was only a few people there, so I got my sandwich pretty fast, in and out in around 10 mins. The workers seem a little confused because the lady that took my order didn't give me my number/receipt, therefore I didn't know when to pick up my sandwich. However I do understand that the place is new and I guess they're still getting the hang of it and working out the kinks. I loved the sandwich! I got the ami-cado on dutch crunch instead of the soft and sweet roll, and the dutch crunch was delicious!! Didn't cut up my mouth either, like some sandwich places do. The jalapeno spread added a small kick to it while the creamy avo cooled my mouth down. :D The only disappointing thing was that my sandwich wasn't as big as I expected from the pictures I've seen on yelp! It wasn't stuffed with meat/veggies, instead it was pretty flat. I was impressed by the taste but definitely let down by the size. Maybe next time the sizes will be more consistent /: Lou's is a 3.5 for me but hopefully it'll increase to a 4 the next time I visit! Excited Lou's opened closer to home! This location is more spacious & a lot brighter than their Geary location. In addition, there are more seats for diners & parking is easier. Since Lou's closes at 7:00 p.m., I called in to place an order. Ordering via the phone was extremely easy and the person I spoke to was friendly. Ordered the following gourmet sandwiches: Ami-Cado - This sandwich comes with pastrami, salami, avocado, pepper jack cheese, and Lou's special sauce on a soft roll. It also comes with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onions, and jalapeño spread. The sandwich is flavorful, but the pastrami and salami makes it a bit too salty. Good thing Lou's special sauce and the jalapeño spread kicks the flavor up a notch as it has just the right amount of spice. Although I enjoyed my sandwich, I wished they gave me dutch crunch, which was noted when I placed the order. Unfortunately, the person making the sandwich didn't follow the order correctly. Hence, I'm taking away a star. Hot Pastrami - Parents enjoyed it. Risky Business - Hubby thought it was just okay. Overall, great selections, affordable prices, good portions, convenient location, all wrapped into a pleasant experience. Note: make sure you get a Lou's Sandwich Club frequent buyers card.
