Not sure if the food and drinks quality suffered because they felt rushed with the crowds and is just trying to get the orders out but I hope the quality gets fixed. We wanted to try the ensaymada, but they already sold out an hour into opening and they had to drive to their other location to get more... which was very disappointing. We ordered the mango tea, no mango flavor at all just straight bitter tea. We ordered two so we tried the other and the same thing. The chicken bowl was a huge disappointment. The rice was sticky rice which is a nice touch, but the chicken was overcooked and very dry. Lacked any flavor at all. The lumpia that came with it was dinky, and didn't have that lumpia crunch to it, it was very mushy. The breakfast sando was better. Had great flavor, had a kick to it. The breading was dry though, could use some more sauce to it. The other coffee drinks my partner had and said it was pretty good. Parking is good, has a decent lot with street parking also. Not sure if I'll be coming back, but if It will be to see if things have changed for the better. read more

I have had Malaya in Silverlake, so I came in with pretty high expectations! Unfortunately, I think the drinks and food were not to my standard. I got their matcha latte and I couldn't really taste anything but milk. Their coffee also tasted more milky, but I did like the cream top. I got their Lumpia crunch sando, and while I did get that crunch, it was a bit too oily for my taste. However, I came when they first opened, so maybe it was just a bad day. The person who took my order was very nice and knew the menu well. I also like the idea of an outdoors cafe where you can sit with your friends. Cute coffee place, went here after our lagree class. Food starts by 10am. We got the banana latte, pandan matcha and ube latte. Coffee tasted good. We waited till 10 to get food and sadly it wasnt my favorite. We got the chicken adobo and a sando. Wait time wise it does take a while to get your order. The adobo tasted more of a teriyaki tbh. Tried Malaya recently and overall it didn't quite meet my expectations. The line wasn't long, but the wait took about 30 minutes for two drinks and two entrees, which felt longer than expected. For drinks, they range around $7-$8, which feels a bit high for the quality. I ordered a plain matcha and added vanilla syrup as recommended, it ended up on the sweeter side, but the matcha itself lacked richness. The ube cream drink was smoother with a stronger flavor, but this too sweet for me. The food was a bit disappointing. The spam breakfast sando was just okay, the bread felt slightly dry, and for $13, it didn't stand out. 5/18 First Time, A gem in Arcadia on First Ave. Glad to have a filipino cafe local to San Gabriel Valley. Very welcoming, the 2 young fellows at the ordering counter. As well as the owner. I ordered the ube crème latte -- loved it! Not too sweet and it's very refreshing! The cheese ensaymada they sell Is obviously from ENSAYMADA PROJECT, my fave ensaymada of all. I finally came around coming to this new coffee shop! I have seen the name change from Flavor Fusion to Malaya a while ago. I decided to come and try Malaya as I work on around the corner. Service was great! A lady took my order today and she was very nice! I love how there's outdoor seating as well. I can see how it can get busy as the time I had gone, there was still a bit of a line for a weekday. I like the flower design as it makes the shop pop a bit more. Ambiance is great. Most coffee shops now cost about $6-$9 a cup. So definitely expect to pay a bit more for coffee. I got the Banana Latte. Perfectly balanced sweetness with the coffee. Well I went in line just after working out a little before 7 and they were open and already taking orders lol which was really nice of them. There was a bit of a wait which is understandable. I saw a customer getting some ensaymada. I knew they were serving it but didn't ask because it was not on display yet. While waiting I decided to get one for my breakfast, but for some reason they decided to just give it to me for the wait. This was generous, I was willing to wait given they took my order before 7! Anyways, the parking area is huge and the patio seating is spacious. I ordered a strawberry matcha with oat milk ($8) and a plain matcha with whole milk ($7). We came right when they opened at 9am and were the second party in line, but somehow the two parties behind us still got their drinks before we did, even though our order was relatively simple compared to theirs. It was frustrating watching more complicated orders come out first while we kept waiting. The strawberry matcha tasted more like strawberry Nesquik milk with a green color added rather than an actual matcha drink. It was overly sweet, and the matcha flavor barely came through. The plain matcha unfortunately wasn't much better. It was unsweetened and pretty bitter, but at the same time neither the milk nor the matcha flavor really stood out. My wife and I went to Malaya today about an hour after opening and ordered 2 leche flan lattes, 1 spam breakfast sando, and 1 lumpia crunch sando. Everything came out except my lumpia sando which I had to go up to counter and ask for. They had obviously forgot about the sandwich even though I heard the cashier say the order to the kitchen. I would have forgiven them for it if they made my order next, but I sat there for about 20 minutes watching other people who ordered after us get their food. When I finally got my sandwich, I was extremely pissed that I waited that long for a pink, disgusting, undercooked pork patty. I appreciated that the worker gave us a free order of lumpia for the inconvenience, which was flavorless. This is the only nice thing I have to say about my experience today. I understand that it was busy at Malaya this morning, but it is inexcusable to serve undercooked pork to your customers. I want to support Filipino businesses as a Filipino, but I cannot continue to come here after today's experience. I would caution anyone that is considering ordering this to reconsider, and to the business to take this off their menu. read more

I love a good coffee spot/cafe with lots of parking and Malaya definitely has a lot of parking! Its also located on the corner so access in and out is easy. Love the shaded seating area that they have right next to the building. Makes it feel like you're sitting and having a coffee on your porch. There are outlets along the bottom of the counter seating but personally this feels more like a sit and chat place rather than a working place. The workers behind the counter were very friendly and even helped me choose a drink! My order came out fairly fast as well I got the ube creme and an order of lumpia. Im not sure if its just because im so used to egg rolls but the lumpia seemed kind of skinny to me. However they were still very delicious and the sauce they came with was great! The ube creme was also very good! I find that most places that do an ube or pandan coffee dont have a good balance of flavor so its usually over powered by the coffee but this was not the case. The ube and coffee flavor was perfectly balanced and the drink wasn't overly sweet either Overall, this is a great place to come back and chat with friends with some solid drink and food choices! Came to Malaya to support a Filipino small business and did not disappoint, the menu is definitely catered to showcase nostalgic Filipino flavors. Vibes and ambiance were immaculate, the fries were pretty great, the drinks not so much... We ordered the Matcha Pandan and Caramel Banana Latte. Both drinks were milky and didn't have the flavor we were expecting. The matcha didn't really have a "matcha" taste and the Pandan was very faint. The caramel banana was also lack luster and was missing the banana flavor. It was pretty much just a milky caramel latte. For around $8 a drink it was disappointing. The fries on the other hand were amazing, great texture and really good seasoning. I'd highly recommend them! Overall, this branch is still quite new. I randomly found this place on social media. It is a brand new spot and hoping to see it bloom. I received wonderful salutations by the entire staff upon arriving. The place is open and a nice relaxing ambience to study out doors. Spacing is available. I ordered a caramel banana signature latte along with a banana. Matcha and the staff member recommended me the spam breakfast Sando. I waited about 5min or so for the items. The food selection was very tasteful and delicious. The drinks were fantastic. Really happy to have another coffee option locally! I am hoping they take some of the feedback to improve because they do have elements that could make this spot great but currently I would say there are a few areas that could improve (I'm glad other reviews have noticed similar things). We came on opening day and saw the owner and his family and I'm always happy to support local spots owned by local families so I really don't want to tear this place apart. When we ordered the cashier was a little disorganized and unsure of details and I get it, first day jitters, maybe not trained super well. We got the banana caramel latte and I think the mango matcha? The cups were a little too full so the drinks were spilling out a bit and also the straws were bad. Felt like they skimped or opted for cheaper options for the straws/cups/lids which is something I normally wouldn't even notice but I'm so used to the open sip top lids that most coffee places do now. With the lids they have here it covers the creamtop and just leaves an overall less-than-optimal/awkward drinking experience. It does matter when 2 drinks are $16+. The straws bent super easily so our initial impression was of our drinks spilling everywhere, the straws bending instantly, and I awkwardly was licking the lid to try the creamtop. My wife mentioned the matcha was bitter/too grassy which maybe some prefer but I think it turned her away from wanting to get matcha here in the future. My drink was very sweet, something I don't typically like with coffee, I'd like to be able to taste the beans or other notes. As others have mentioned there was almost no banana flavor, just more of a caramel sweet taste. We also got an ensaymada and it was fine but nothing spectacular, I wouldn't get it again for $6.50. Bottom line: Arcadia has had a lot of great spots open up recently and I hope that they have continued success so we can continue to have lots of great options for coffee and food. I am willing to give Malaya another try because they're super close to my house but a lot of small inconveniences led to our first impression being less than great. If you care about the quality of your coffee and coffee beans, then this place is not for you. Tried their pandan latte with almond milk and you can barely taste the coffee. The latte was very smooth; however, the texture was all from the almond milk. I can only taste a hint of coffee. The pandan flavor was very weak. The latte was also on the pricier side ~$8 for the size and quality of their coffee compared to other well established local / mom&pop coffee joints. Stopped by the Malaya Grand Opening today. It was packed. Tried the Spam Breakfast and Lumpia Crunch Sandos, and the Malaya Chicken Bowl. Also ordered the Malaya Signature and Ube Creme Lattes and traditional ensaymada. The coffees were smooth and not too sweet. The ensaymada was super buttery and sandos were delicious. Staff is very friendly and even cut the sandwiches in quarters for us. The chicken bowl, although tasty, was the only thing that didn't leave an impression on me.
